Oracle11.2g on Vista 32bit VERSUS WIndows 7 64bit SLOWER!

I am an APEX developer and program daily on my laptop. I previously ran my APEX application(4.0.2) using the EPG HTTP server with Oracle 11.2g on a laptop with Vista 32 bit with 4gig of RAM. Performance was acceptable though a bit little slow at times.
I've just installed a complete fresh install of Oracle 11.2g with Apex 4.0.2 (to remain compatible with prod server) on my NEW Windows 7 (64 bit) laptop(i7 dual core processer with 8 gig RAM and SSD drive).
The issue is that my APEX application runs much SLOWER under Windows 7 (64 bit) and a high performance laptop than it did on VISTA 32 bit! I'm trying to troubleshoot this as being a performance problem with either one or all of the following:
1. Windows 7 OS
2. Oracle 11.2g
3. APEX
4. IE 64bit browser 9
Does anyone have any performance tips for 1,2,3 or 4 or come accross a similar situation?
I've configured the 11.2g DB with the following parameters:
sga_max_size: 3G
shared_pool_size: 1G
java_pool: 64MB
large_pool_size: 64MB
pga_aggregate_target: 1G
sort_area_size: 64M
Processes: 400
open_cursors:300
thanks in advance,
regards

PaulPIt can be very challenging to troubleshoot a performance issue across a 3-tier application.
You need to establish a benchmark for each layer & then compare & contrast the two systems.

  • Upgrade Vista 32bit to Windows 64bit. What happens to my preinstalled MSOffice 2007

    Hi,
I want to upgrade from Vista Home Premium 32bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, so I will have to do a new installation. Now I got MSOffice 2007 pre-installed with Vista on my T61p, and got the MSOffice Trail DVD.
Now I would like to know if I do a Windows7 installation, will I be able to reinstall MSOffice with the Trail DVD, and use the same Reg ID and Product ID that I'm using on Vista at the moment?? I sure hope I don't have to buy MSOffice again for the upgraded OS!
    Thanks for the help.

What do you mean by Reg ID and Product ID?  I hope you do not mean the Product ID in "About Microsoft Office XXXX"  where it says 'This product is licensed to: xxxx Product ID: xxxxx or the Registry key ID cause if you do that will not work!
You will need a valid Product Key to make the trial into a full registered version.  This key will have 5 sets of 5 numbers and/or alphabets in each set.

If that is what you have then no problems.

  • Re: Upgrade from Vista 32bit to Windows 7

    Dear Sirs
I need your support that how will I upgrade to 32bit Windows 7 from Vista.
    Regards.

I must confess from the get-go that my knowledge of the finer points of computers in general is limited, but I've heard that 64-bit is the way to go. I bought my system from Dell about 12 months ago. Since I didn't build it, I can't tell you what mother board I've got (Dell refuses to easily divulge that bit of info and it's kind of a huge problem), but I do know:
    Intel Q6600 @ 2.4 GhZ
    4 GB DDR2 800
    Radeon HD 3870 512 MB
    W/ Vista Ultimate 32-bit
So, my question is can I buy an upgrade kit to go from Vista 32 to Windows 7 64 or will I need to straight buy Windows 7 64 bit and install it? Will I need to update the BIOS? Is casual gaming, photo and video editing and HD video viewing even worth 64-bit? Again, since I don't know what mobo I have, all this may be for nothing because the board may not do 64-bit..

  • HP is not offering Vista 32bit to Windows 7 64bit upgrade??

Why aren't you you that? When you get Windows 7 from somewhere else you get 32bit AND 64bit disks! I would really get this upgrade from legal ways, but not paying 30euros only from 32bit, I can get both almost for the same money. Or it is time to use bittorrent and get what you really want?

You can't upgrade a 32-bit OS to 64 bit OS...you have to perform a clean install which kinda negates the point of it being an upgrade.  Try reading more on Microsoft's upgrade paths...
No offense, but you need to do more reading on Microsoft's upgrade paths yourself.  Like Vista, Windows 7 upgrades are license upgrades and they are intended to allow movement from 32 bit to 64 bit (and vice versa).  Yes, you need to do a clean install to go in either direction but that capability is intended by Microsoft to be an option in the "upgrade" process.  All Microsoft produced disk is a full bits installer, whether full version or upgrade disk.  The only difference that the upgrade disk includes a function to verify presence of a qualified licensed product.   If HP is doing OEM customized upgrades then there could be good reasons to offer only 32 bit (such as lack of 64 bit drivers from HP's end).  If, however, they are just doing a pass through of Microsoft's RTM version then, provided the processor supports the 64 bit OS, it should be an option.  Personally though, I would assume that there is a good reason since HP has been one of the industry's strongest proponents for the 64 bit version of Windows.  BTW, the OP's contention of going the route of BitTorrent is certainly no solution. That is ethically and morally bankrupt regardless of circumstances.

  • Windows 32bit vs Windows 64bit

    Hi all,
This might be a dumb question but I won't know unti I ask it.
Most of us use 32 bit but I'm wondering what the consequences are of using 64bit instead. I've read that only a few programs run in 64 bit mode but does that mean only 64 bit programs run in a 64bit windows environment? There are many programs I use that don't even offer 64 bit (such as Roxio Easy Media Creator) and I wonder if I just can't use those at all or is there a 32bit mode that will run within a 64 bit O/S? If there is, is it stable?
Is there something I can read that covers this topic or can someone give me the "Dummies for 64 Bit O/S" rundown.
I'm interested in learning XP Pro, Vista and Win7 with this 32bit vs 64bit question.
    Thank you,
    Dennis

Dennis, the proper questions is whether or not the program will run under 64-bit Windows.

Lists like these sometimes say which version. Look for "64 bit" or x64.

I would like to know how?
    Thanks

    Hi, LBCupertino
What they mean is you can't just switch it to 64bit. You will need to save what ever you need, documents, pictures, music, etc... It requires you to install 64bit from the CD, which will wipe everything you have on it now.

You need to shed more light on the subject.
What does it mean to say "I am unable to restore..."?? What did you do? How did you create the backup? How did you try to restore? What do you see on your computer screen that makes you believe that you weren't able to restore the catalog? Is there an error message?

  • Windows Vista 32bit or 64bit?

Which is better for my new mac book pro, Windows Vista 32bit or 64bit Ultimate? All I care about is all of my programs and games working properly. And what does 86x mean? Will one version of the bits work faster than the other?

    Hi Konnexion,
There is another more important limit with 32-bit versions of Windows, and that is the limit of 2 GBS of RAM per process. Unless some tricks and tweaks are used (which can result in reduced stability), no matter how much physical RAM is installed, a single application can't use more than 2 GBs. This is important for applications that can use large amounts of RAM like video and picture rendering apps, and even some games these days (particularly in Vista).
On the other hand, the 64-bit version of Vista has a number of additional security enhancements over the 32-bit version, such as address-space layout randomization, mandatory driver signing. If you have the RAM (at least 4GBs) and games are not a priority, I would actually recommend using the 64-bit version. Of course, why would you be using Boot Camp, if it weren't for games LOL?

  • T500, from Vista Home 32bit to Windows 7 64bit

    Hi All,
Wanted to know if anyone can help me with upgrading my vista home 32bit to windows 7 64bit?  My t500 shipped with vista home 32, and I have a windows 7 64bit install cd.
my first instint is to just do a straight upgrade, pop in the windows 7  cd, and go from there.  Is that the best way?  Or should I do a clean install, format and  find drivers.  I heard Lenovo doesn't have much bloatware, and that going the upgrade route would be fine.
    has anyone tried this yet?
    Thanks!

You can't  upgrade a Win 32bit OS to 64bit one.
Best to back-up all your stuff (like to a network drive on another computer), boot the computer from the CD and format all your disks when prompted where you wish to install windows.
Most drivers will be avalible off Windows Update only specific ones like the hard drive protection drivers need be aquired from  lenovo.

  • Windows 7 No 4GB (32bit) and in 64bit BootCamp drivers do not work!!!

Hello. I have a MacBook 3,1 (late 2007 model) with 4GB RAM. Under Windows 7 32bit, only 2.96gb Ram is useable and the Boot Camp drivers run fine. How do I get Windows 7 to recognize the entire 4GB? I have used bcdedit /set pae ForeceEnable and that doesn't do anything, still 2.92gb useable not 4gb although W7 recognizes the 4Gb as available? How to enable to fully?
Second, 64bit Windows 7 recognzes the full 4gb but the Boot Camp drivers do not install at all! Hence, no mouse, sounce is crap/unusable, and the rest of the Apple devices are crap. I have downloaded BootCamp 2.1 update but in 64bit Vista, when I run BootCampx64.msi it sells me "Bot Camp x64 is not supported for this model." Hence, the 64bit drivers do not install DESPITE a 64bit OS.
I went to the Genius Bar but the guy was an oaf and didn't know anything helpful. Help please!?!!!
    Help please.

    whitedragon wrote:
That is because 32bit version do not support 4 gigs of memory. It only supports up to 2 gigs even though it can read more than that.
Windows 7 is not fully supported as it is not released yet. You might be able to find some Windows Vista 64bit drivers for it but there is no guarantee that it will work.
You are incorrect! I am UPGRADING from Vista 32bit which supports 4GB of RAM with SP1. If you read my original post, you will see that I already tried the Vista 64bit drivers in Windows 7 64bit.
Windows 7 is downloadable from Microsoft and also supported already by Parallels v4 and the latest Fusion.
Hence, my original questions stand: How can I enable fully enable 4GB in Windows 7 32bit? Or, install, with Windows 7 64bit, install the correct Boot Camp drivers?
As I said, when brunning the Vista 64bit Boot Camp drivers in Windows 7 64bit, it says "Vista x64 Boot Camp not supported on this model."
    Anyone have any suggestions?
