Oracleasm error

Hi everybody,
On Oracle Linux I have installed oracle 10.2.0 and I want to deploy asm. I installed css service and ASM instance which both run. Then to create a disk group I made a partition with fdisk and initialized it with os volume maneger, it is called /dev/sda12 and is unmounted. When I issue:
./oracleasm createdisk ASMSDK /dev/sda12
it returns this error:
Marking disk "/dev/sda12" as an ASM disk: Error opening manager: No such device
or address [FAILED]
What's up?

Here is the output of ls command for my partition. This time I have created it with fdisk.
[root@IT-LAB init.d]# ls -al /dev/sda12
brw-rw-rw- 1 root disk 8, 12 Apr 19 2007 /dev/sda12
The problem still exists. Nobody knows the reason?!

    Hi all:
       OS.....: Red Hat 6.5 (64 bits)
       I am preparing to install an 12c RAC in a Red Hat 6.5. While configuring the ASMLib, i got the following error while executing "/usr/sbin/oracleasm init":
          May  2 18:23:20 oraprd01 modprobe: FATAL: Module oracleasm not found.
       I configure the Oracle YUM Repository and installed the "kmod-oracleasm" package. And in the link (Oracle ASMLib Downloads for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6) i got the "oracleasmlib" and "oracleasm-support" packages, as you can see below:
          [root@oraprd01 binarios]# rpm -qa | grep -i oracleasm
          kmod-oracleasm-2.0.8-4.el6_6.x86_64
          oracleasm-support-2.1.8-1.el6.x86_64
          oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el6.x86_64
       My kernel is:
          Linux oraprd01 2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Sun Nov 10 22:19:54 EST 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
       My Red Hat version is:
          [root@oraprd01 binarios]# cat /etc/redhat-release
          Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.5 (Santiago)
       Why am i getting the above error while trying to init the oracleasm module? What am i doing wrong?
       Thanks in advance.

    Problem solved.
       I installed an older version of the kmod-oracleasm (kmod-oracleasm-2.0.6.rh1-3.el6_5.x86_64) downloaded from Red-Hat Customer Portal. Now the ASM module is loaded.

    Hi,
    Put here the log /var/log/oracleasm
    Please format the log.
    When you post log, or any formatted text, on this site, type these 6 characters:

    This is the metalink note, 1303976.1, I was talking about. This is another way to prove that device is busy, which we have already proved that device is busy (means used by one thing or another). Once you get mkfs working then creatdisk should work with no errors.
    You can double, check that LVM, mount, RAID, MP, or similar thing is not already accessing the disk in question. For MP, you can shutdown another node, pull the cable from 2nd HBA/port and try it again. Due to limited access to your environment and due to lack of any logs, I think the options are just hit and trial and find out what is using that device. There are specific steps to implement mp, and please make sure no other VM or RAID is causing this issue.

  • Oracleasm lib failed to load with "Invalid module format" error

    Hi,
    I'm tring to install the oracleasm lib onto our hardened Redhat EL5 server
    I've download the oracleasm rpm from this page http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/linux/asmlib/rhel5.html.
    We're using Redhat 5 U 2
    [root@PG673 modules]# uname -rm
    2.6.18-92.el5 x86_64
    [root@PG673 modules]#
    The package I downloaded is an exact match with our kernel version
    [root@PG673 modules]# rpm -qa | grep asm
    oracleasm-2.6.18-92.el5-2.0.5-1.el5
    oracleasm-support-2.1.3-1.el5
    oracleasm-support-2.1.3-1.el5
    oracleasm-2.6.18-92.el5-2.0.5-1.el5
    oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5
    oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5
    [root@PG673 modules]#
    RPM installation went well, but when we run the /etc/init.d/oracleasm configure command, we hit the following error
    [root@PG673 other]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm configure
    /etc/init.d/oracleasm: line 207: /usr/sbin/oracleasm: cannot execute binary file
    Later we found out that the oracleasm module haven't been loaded, so we try to load it manually, but we hit the "Invalid module format" error.
    [root@PG673 modules]# modprobe -l | grep asm
    /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.el5/kernel/drivers/addon/oracleasm/oracleasm.ko
    [root@PG673 modules]# modprobe oracleasm
    FATAL: Error inserting oracleasm (/lib/modules/2.6.18-92.el5/kernel/drivers/addon/oracleasm/oracleasm.ko): Invalid module format
    [root@PG673 modules]#
    As I know this error could happen if the driver version is not match with the system kernel version.
    The problem is we're already using an exact match version of driver with our system, I can't think of what to do next in order to proceed the installation.
    Really appreciate if someone could point me a direction.
    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
    something looks a bit strange for me. On my OEL 5.4 x64 system i have just the following 3 packages:
    $ rpm -qa | grep asm
    oracleasm-2.6.18-164.el5-2.0.5-1.el5
    oracleasm-support-2.1.3-1.el5
    oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5 Your packages should be I think the following:
    http://oss.oracle.com/projects/oracleasm-support/dist/files/RPMS/rhel5/amd64/2.1.3/oracleasm-support-2.1.3-1.el5.x86_64.rpm
    http://otn.oracle.com/software/tech/linux/asmlib/files/RPMS/rhel5/amd64/2.0.4/oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5.x86_64.rpm
    http://oss.oracle.com/projects/oracleasm/dist/files/RPMS/rhel5/amd64/2.0.5/2.6.18-92.el5/oracleasm-2.6.18-92.el5-2.0.5-1.el5.x86_64.rpm
    Uninstall all asm packages and retry with just those three.
    Good luck!

    =======================
    I see in the above log that saying ASM instance is down and failed to open +DATA .
    But the asm instance up and running
    SQL> select instance_name,status from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME STATUS
    +ASM1            STARTED
    And we havent created any disk named DATA before the installation. We have created only below two disks
    SQL> select name,header_status from v$asm_disk;
    NAME HEADER_STATUS
    ASM_DATA MEMBER
    FLASH_RECOVERY MEMBER
    But I am seeing a diskgroup in the v$asm_diskgroup which we havent created.
    SQL> select name,state from v$asm_diskgroup;
    NAME STATE
    DATA MOUNTED
    Ya this is a second time installtion. In the first installtion we created the asmdisk as DATA. But later everything (RAW device ) was formatted and this new disks has been created and installtion again started
    [root@SFV9699 bin]# oracleasm listdisks
    ASM_DATA
    FLASH_RECOVERY
    Seems like its trying to read the old disk DATA.
    we have done asmscanning too with oracleasm scan disks. but no use.
    Where I can remove the old entry of DATA disk.
    It would be a great if a quick response get.
    Thanks
    SHIYAS M

    The permission looks fine. If it was permission issue then y it is trying to read the DATA disk which I havent created this time at all ( But created in the first installation).

    If any more information is necessary please request and I will provide, as you can see there is more than enough memory and disk space for the installation. The only exception being that I am using a different 'oraInventory', 'gridhome', and 'oraBase'. I have looked closely at the output and the problem seems to be a file called 'ljavavm12', I have highlighted the line in bold above in the log output. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Alex

    Resolved my own issue,
    for anyone else having the same problem, here is how it was resolved:
    ljavavm12 is part of libjavavm12.a, for some reason this file was not copied into the $GRID_HOME, after doing so make went through fine.
    'cp /opt/oragrid/javavm/jdk/jdk7/lib/libjavavm12.a /opt/oragrid/lib/'
    Alex,

  • File verification errors applying GI PSU 11.2.0.3.1 for acfs on linux

    (Hi guys. i'm filing an SR at the same time, but I find I get more helpful responses from the forums, and we end up sharing technical knowledge in a more effective way.)
    Platform: Proof of concept Virtualbox VM running Oracle Linux 5u7
    Installed Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.3 straight (didn't start with 11.2.0.1 and upgraded out-of-place)
    My Linux kernel was apparently not supporting

    - out of curiosity, would I be able to boot the GRUB-loader WITHOUT the linux UEK kernel, and instead boot with the

    -- I had thought that as of *11.2.0.3*, ACFS WAS supported under the Linux UEK. In addition, the MOS note 1369107.1 that 11.2.0.3.1 patch set update 1 would provide support for ACFS on the UEK2.6.32-200

    To test that, I tried applying the 11.2.0.3.1 grid control PSU 1:

         [Feb 18, 2012 8:39:08 AM]    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------There were errors with the file verification after the copy , for some reason. I don't know why it would have coughed on the two files oraagent.bin and oracleacfs.ko, but Oracle Support and google seaches didn't come up with anything. I plan to manually try an opatch apply instead of the oaptch auto, but while I do so, does anybody have clues for correctly applying this PSU?

    To update this thread, I ended up speaking to Oracle Support on this. It turned out that one of the prerequisites in the README was the culprit:
    2.1.4 Unzipping the PatchThe patch application requires explicit user actions to run 'opatch auto' command on each node of Oracle clusterware. So, it is recommended that you download and unzip the patch in a shared location to be able to access it from any node in the cluster and then as the Grid home owner execute the unzip command. To prevent installation failures, this location should be an empty directory.
    Note:
    Do not unzip the patch in the top level /tmp directory.
    The unzipped patch location should have read permission for ORA_INSTALL group in order to patch Oracle homes owned by different owners. The ORA_INSTALL group is the primary group of the user who owns the GI home or the group owner of the Oracle central inventory.>
    In my example, I had unzipped to /tmp. However, the resulting error message stack didn't really point that out.
    When I double-checked the README and tried again from /home/oracle/patches/p13348650 instead, it worked. It doesn't leave me with a confident feeling, more just relief. On a related note (and the entire reason for me patching to 11.2.0.3.1), ACFS filesystems ARE supported now under Oracle 5 update 7 with the 2.6.32-200.13.1.el5uek kernel (you had to really dig through the matrix in 1369107.1). Had this not worked, I would had to fail back to the non-UEK kernel to achieve ACFS.

  • Problem with oracleasm

    Hi,
    I have a problem with oracleasm.
    I marking disk /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/sdb1
    The marking disk "/dev/sdb1" was success.
    *#Marking disk "/dev/sdb1" as an ASM disk: [ OK ]*
    Next I create diskgroup DATA using VOL1 and leater create database using diskgroup DATA (VOL1).
    Now I install EMC powerpuff and create link /dev/mapper1.
    ! dev/mapper1 = /dev/sdb1
    Now I want to change disk /dev/sdb1 to /dev/mapper1 for VOL1 (in the VOL1 I have a production database)
    Thanks for help

    Hi,
    as far as I have seen, Oracle redesigned a lot of their homepage.
    This lead to a lot of problems with the download links (some asmlib libraries could not be downloaded from the homepage).
    I assume that the error you are encountering hits into the same issue. Just that you are "updating" and getting a wrong URL instead of using the browser.
    I would open a SR with support to get this resolved.

  • Cluster Database not starting up. Permission error.

    Hi all,
    I recently installed 2 node Oracle 11g RAC on RHEL5. While creating Clustered Database, database creation on second node (racnode2) failed. So, I connected */ as sysdba* on the node and executed startup only to get this error message:

  • Error building RT2860 WLAN driver in kernel 2.6.18-128.2.1.4.25.el5.i686

    Hello,
    I installed VM Server v2.2.1 (kernel 2.6.18-128.2.1.4.25.el5.i686) and am trying to build the RT2860 WLAN driver from source (2010_07_16_RT2860_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0). I installed package kernel-ovs-devel-2.6.18-128.2.1.4.25.el5.i686 and when I run make I get the following compile error:
    error: expected identifier or '(' before 'void'
    The offending snippet of code, from a header file, is:
    typedef VOID (*STATE_MACHINE_FUNC)(VOID Adaptor, MLME_QUEUE_ELEM Elem);
    typedef struct STATEMACHINE {
    ULONG Base;
    ULONG NrState;
    ULONG NrMsg;
    ULONG CurrState;
    STATE_MACHINE_FUNC *TransFunc;
    } STATE_MACHINE, *PSTATE_MACHINE;
    The odd thing is, I'm able to build the source when I replace kernel-ovs-devel-2.6.18-128.2.1.4.25.el5.i686 with kernel-devel-2.6.18-128.2.1.4.25.el5.i686 or with kernel-xen-devel-2.6.18-128.2.1.el5.i686 but then, of course, I get an "Invalid module format" error when I try to install the module (/sbin/insmod rt2860sta.ko).
    The issue is probably very simple to solve, but I'm not much of a C programmer so it's not clear to me why the compiler is choking on the snippet above.
    Thanks in advance for any advice,
    Matt

    This issue has been resolved. The problem was, we were (attempting to) use EMC PowerPath (/dev/emcpower* devices) but the default SCSI devices (/dev/sd*) were being discovered and used as path to storage.
    The solution was to edit /etc/sysconfig/oracleasm and add "emcpower" to the ORACLEASM_SCANORDER parameter and "sd" to the ORACLEASM_SCANEXCLUDE parameter. Once we did that, failovers are working successfully.

    Also My kernal is not ELsmp.
    I checked in the below site
