ASMlib keeps return "Instantiating disk: failed" while trying to create ASM disks. It happens on both Clariion and Symmetrix devices.

According to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/linux/asmlib/index-101839.html No ASMLIB driver package needs to be installed when using this kernel. Moreover doing a search on ASM related rpm in ULN, I can only get what's shown here:

I even uninstalled oracleasm-support-2.1.5-1.el6.x86_64 and reinstalled with earlier version (oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5.x86_64.rpm & oracleasm-support-2.1.3-1.el5.x86_64.rpm), but I still get the same result.
I suspect that the integrated ASMLIB driver doesnt work well.

We want to use ocfs2 as the shared file system for running Oracle RAC 11gR2 on Red hat linux 6.
The red hat linux kernel is 2.6.32-220.el6.x86_64.
I checked the ocfs2 download site and there is no ocfs2 rpms for Red hat 6, infact there are no ocfs2 rpms for Linux 6.
What options do I have if ...go down to Linux 5.x or move to Oracle linux 6.
If my understanding is correct Oracle linux 6 has ocfs2 in the kernel itself and does not need to be installed separately.
What other options do I have for having a shared file system .... ?

Please refer to Note 1365511.1 - How to Configure LUNs for ASM Disks using WWID, DM-Multipathing, and ASMLIB on RHEL 5/OL 5 and RHEL 6/OL 6 . That note can help you to install and configure ASM properly.

ASMLib donwload for rhel6 (2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 #1)

Hi All,
I have OS version - Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.4 and kernel is 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 #1. I want to install ASMLib for rhel6 but when I searched for ASLMib download then it showing upto Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 AS.
Can any one guide from where I can get the link for rhel6 - asmlib ?

Oracle will not provide ASMLib packages for kernels distributed by Red Hat as part of RHEL 6. ASMLib updates will be delivered via Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN), which is available to customers with Oracle Linux support. ULN works with both Oracle Linux or Red Hat Linux installations, but ASMLib usage will require replacing any Red Hat kernel with a kernel provided by Oracle.
Oracleasm kernel driver is built into the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Oracle Linux 6.
When you install the package "oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall" it also installs the UEK.
After installing oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall, you won't have a RHEL 6 System anymore. It will be an Oracle Linux system.
Oracle Linux can run with 2 different kernels. One 100% compatible to RHEL and the other the ULK kernel, only 100% compatible in userspace, but not in kernelspace.
Alternatively use udev or multipath instead of oracleasm. Since the RHEL6′s kernel version is 2.6, the use of asmlib is no longer needed, in RHEL 6 is used UDEV and DirectIO instead. Using ASM without ASMLib provides the ability to use operating system's native I/O multipathing. BTW ASMLib delivers no known performance benefits.

Missing dependency error while installing kernel-2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 and yum-utils package

I'm not able to install the kernel in Oracle Linux using "Yum install". I'm getting error's while installing Kernel. The Kernel version is 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 (in the linux CD of virtual box) Can you please guide me how to proceed further.
I used the commands below :

yum install kernel-2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64
I'm getting so many errors saying "Error Missing Dependency libpq.so.4() 64bit" Error missing dependency libmysqlclient.so.15()64 bit

Please note I booted from a linux Oracle linux 6 bootable CD and trying to install Oracle Linux 6 kernel on my machine..
I tried installing "yum-utils" package too using the below command, but that too failed giving missing dependency errors..

You cannot use the yum utility to do a major version upgrade, such as upgrading from Oracle Linux 5 to Oracle Linux 6. Kernel version 2.6.32-358.el6 is the RHCK kernel and requires Oracle Linux 6. So if your attempt was to install a driver that works only for the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 kernel, you will have to upgrade the OS first. For this you must start from the OL6 installation DVD, but upgrading between major release versions is not officially supported. You can however upgrade to the latest Oracle UEK kernel, by enabling the appropriate channel in the yum repository configuration file.

Kernel source for 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64

I have the 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 as the default kernel(not uek) . i installed the kernel-devel package.
when i go to the /usr/src/kernels ... i see the src for 2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64.
Am i looking in the wrong directory? if not what do i need to do to update this kernel to match the src folder or get the src for the one have installed ?

Oracleasmlib oracleasm-support RHEL 7

Hi,
anybody knows whether the RPM for oracleasmlib and oracleasm-support are available for RHEL 7 ?
I've been able to find te above mentioned rpm pnly for RHEL 6 (link: Oracle ASMLib Downloads for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 )
On the 5th March RedHat has made available kmod-oracleasm for RHEL7.
Therefore we would have liked to begin and install 11G with ASM on RHEL7 but, as stated, I am not able to find there rpms.

We do have a Red Hat subscription, I have no issue at all with the kmod-oracleasm for RHEL 7, I've already installed it.
My doubts were more linked to the remaining rpms since for RHEL6 there was a dedicated link (( http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/linux/asmlib/rhel6-1940776.html) containing both oracleasmlib and oracleasm-support.
I cannot find any RHEL 7 dedicated link for the above mentioned rpms.
The Red Hat official note wew have, as far as the remaining asm rpms are concerned, says:
-to download the oarcleasmlib from the link http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/linux/asmlib/ol7-2352094.html.
But this seems to have been built for OL7
-to retrieve the oracleasm-support from the public repository (and I've found it at http://public-yum-oracle-com/repo/OracleLinux/OL7/latest/${basearch}" repository.
So my question is:
can anybody confirm we may use the oracleasmlib and oracleasm-support we may find respectively at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/linux/asmlib/ol7-2352094.html. and in the http://public-yum-oracle-com/repo/OracleLinux/OL7/latest/${basearch} repository for RHEL 7 systems ?

It sounds like you or someone else hacked the phone to unlock it. Updating it locked it to the original carrier.
How did you unlock it? The ONLY legitimate way is to ask the carrier it is locked to to unlock it. Any other way requires hacking or jailbreaking the phone.

In that case the procedure assuming it is a PAYG phone is to get an o2 PAYG sim, put £20 on it and then make a few calls making sure you leave £15 on the sim to pay for the unlock. Then there is an online unlock request form on the o2 site just fill this in. It takes between 1-14 days and you get a message from o2 telling you how to complete the official unlock through iTunes.
I got my o2 unlock in nov 09 so this is not just opinion.

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

After 3 days onto the support at Adobe my cloud app still wont work. Error given is Install Failed!

I have had creative cloud for over a month now and have not been able to get the thing to work. I have spent around 2 and a half days onto the technical support. I have tried it on two different laptops the second I brought to replace my old one as the first stopped working after the tech support had been messing with it. So I have tried it on Windows 7 and now Windows 8.1.
After around 3 days onto the tech support I now have working copies of Photoshop and In Design. These were installed via work arounds! I still cant use creative cloud.
I have tried to use the laptops on two different networks my home system and that at my university.
I extremely frustrated by this as I am a student and am paying a lot for something which just seems to be useless. I also had to borrow a friends computer to do my assignments after spending 2 days wasted trying to get the thing working, so it is effecting my studies.
Does any body know how I can sort this problem as the technical support seem to just be bodging things and the system is next to useless?
My Lap top is running Windows 8.1 64bit. It has plenty of space available on the HDD and loads of RAM so should be no issues there.
The virus protection is Kapersky but have tried with this disabled and also tried with McAfee on as laptop originally had this installed.

You mentioned installing under Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 was this on two separate laptops or did you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1?

I'm taking it in to get it looked at but will they cover this? And is there a way to fix it before I take it in. I'm still under the 1 year warranty plan. My friend said that they might exchange it. It's a 64GB and I use it for a lot of things like my picture, music, contacts, and email. It's got scratches on the back but other wise its ok the screen isn't cracked or scratched.
I have a usb charger for it but when I plug it into the PC or my wall charger it won't charge. It just says "Charging is not supported with this device". It even says that sometimes when it's not charging. But it works on a dock station like my clock or radio.
Also my home buttom won't work unless I press down real hard. This scares me because I'm afraid I wil persss it too hard and break it even more.

I was one this site for 20+ Days and found a fix for 10.2.1 when it failed. I Uninstalled all, following other attempts that failed, then installed latest Version from Apple iTunes 10.2.12. I then uninstalled Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS) and installed AMDS from the older 10.0 version of iTunes. Success it worked. Today, I am now back to old problem, iTnes takes very long time to open and fails to see my device when connected (iPhone). I really only have iTunes for my iPhone no extensive library a few hundred CD's in music location and no podcasts. I have less than 6 moveis and want to update them now. I am willing to lose all in iTunes library if need be just to get computer to see G3 iPhone with iOS 4.2 and let me synch once again. I like security of backup too. It older iTunes may now not support, that too is OK. I still want to get the 3GS (no 4G desires, yet) and do not care if any of it is the latest from Apple as long as it works.

Your basic suggestion actually worked for me. But this is what I did for others who are having issues removing/installing etc.
1. Download the latest iTunes 8.2. You should end up with a file iTunesSetup.
2. If you dont already have WinRAR, download free copy from http://www.rarlab.com/ and install.
3. Right click on iTunesSetup and choose "Extract" to somewhere you know. eg C:\itunetemp
4. Open up folder where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi
5. It should ask you if you want to repair or remove... choose remove.
6. REBOOT your PC.
7. Go back to where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi and go through the install.
8. Plug in your iPhone.
If all is well iTunes should automatically start and start syncing your iPhone.

High PPI Support Multiple Monitors: How it comes that Remote Desktop implements the hight PPI support very well and win 8.1 doesnt?

Hello all: i am using an High PPI Monitors from Dell XPS15 (3600x1800) and a Normal FullHD above it. The FullHD monitor is an external device and is set up as the primary device. Scaling is set to per Monitor DPI.
Now the Question: how it comes, that my RemoteDesktop on the secondary (internal) screen has almost perfect implementation for this????
BUT i am am talking only about the RemoteDekstopManager, normal one does not works with high ppi in this way... Also ModernUI has no problems with scaling

NOTE that the resolution on the remote desktop is set to 1600x900 and there are NO scaling problems even on the 3200x1800 monitor!
On both picutures you find the dell monitor on the bottom and the scaled original windows explorer/firefox on the bottom right. See how blurry it is? I really breaks my eyes :(
I hope Microsoft can finally fix the high PPI Monitors issue, since the solutions seems to be already implemented

No, i mean the Scaling Support.
If you use multiple monitor, in windows 8.1 you can scale per monitor. If you use this option with a High PPI monitor, like ultra HD or 4K, the image on the monitors with other PPI than the main monitors appears fuzzy and blury.
But there are also scaling problems even if you use only single monitor. This article blog describes it pretty good:

By the way there are lot article like this describing the scaling problems, not only by users but also by professinals and IT magazines...
BUT here it comes: watch @ my screenshots. If the remote desktops resolution is 1800x900 and the native resolution is 3600x1800, there are no scaling problems! HOW? So like you can see on my screenshots a native application on my monitor appears fuzzy while
the same application runnin of the remote desktop has clear type!
That means for me, that windows HAS the possibility to scale clearly, but somehow this feature is only supported by RDCM...
