OracleConnection no need to open connection to query a stored proc

I discovered something I would it strange today. As I was looking at my colleague code, I found that when whe query a stored proc, there's no need to open the connection before the instruction dataAdapter fill.
here's the example
Public Function getCodeBiensNi() As List(Of CodeBiensNi)
Dim CodeBiensNis As New List(Of CodeBiensNi)
Try
Dim cursCmd As OracleCommand = New OracleCommand("b240004k.get_bdm_code_biens_ni_2", connection)
cursCmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
Dim param0 As New OracleParameter
param0.OracleDbType = OracleDbType.RefCursor
param0.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue
cursCmd.Parameters.Add(param0)
Dim da As New OracleDataAdapter(cursCmd)
Dim ds As New DataSet
Dim unCodeBiensNi As CodeBiensNi
da.Fill(ds)
' loop through the data set and display each table/row/column
For Each dt As DataTable In ds.Tables
For Each dr As DataRow In dt.Rows
unCodeBiensNi = New CodeBiensNi With {.bcbn_code = dr.Item("bcbn_code"), _
.bcbn_description = dr.Item("bcbn_description").ToString, _
.bcbn_date_debut = dr.Item("bcbn_date_debut"), _
.bcbn_date_fin = dr.Item("bcbn_date_fin")}
CodeBiensNis.Add(unCodeBiensNi)
Next
Next
ds.Dispose()
da.Dispose()
param0.Dispose()
cursCmd.Dispose()
Catch ex As Exception
Throw New Exception("Erreur d'interrogation dans code biens ni. " + ex.Message)
Finally
End Try
Return CodeBiensNis
End Function
connection is a private member that has a valid connection string but that's not open. ie. I didn't issue open.
I even was on debug mode and all the time the state of connection is close.
Although it work for store proc, it didn't work for simple SQL query. If issue something simple like "select 'toto' from dual", if I don't open the connection it doesn't work, it raise a exception.
someone know why? I'm just too curious about that. Try to google it but i can't find the right keyword...

Hi Vishal,
Get the URL of the document you want to open.
There are various API/FM  of DMS available for this.
You can use ACFexecute UI elemnet for opening the document ( lIke PDF, word etc )  with this URL{ Available with NW Ehp 1}.
or you can try using LinktoUrl element.

  • Using an existing connection in a Java Stored Proc

    Hi,
    I have to invoke a Java stored procedure from a PL/SQL stored proc. In the Java stored proc I open a database connection & execute some SQLs. To do this can I use the same connection that is used to invoke the PL/SQL stored proc. In other words can we use the existing PL/SQL connection within a Java stored proc that is being called by the former PL/SQL instead of creating a new connection?
    Thanks in advance.
    Sunitha

    Ok I understood how to get the default connection from http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc_faq.htm#05_01
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:default:connection");However, I find that the Java stored proc is running slower in Oracle VM than invoking it from a command line Java program using thick driver from a remote machine.
    Thanks anyway.
    Sunitha.

  • Query OR Stored Proc to get data from Tables from All Schemas in the d/base

    Hello Experts, (I appologize if i am not using the right way to ask questions)
    I have a database, and it has around 400 schemas in it. I have designed a query which will fetch the data from three different table's from Schema1.
    But it will be a tedious process of entering the 400 schemas names and pulling the information.
    I would like to know as to what would be the best possible way to;
    1) Look for all the schemas in the database
    2) Look for those specific tables in the schema, which has the data in the tables.
    3) If the tables are not present, than Ignore that schema and proceed further.
    4) Load the data into a table
    Any help, would appreciate it.
    Thanks!
    The query that i am using is as follows;
    -- Query to select all the Schemas from the database
    select username from all_users
    order by username;
    -- Sample Query to see if Tables exsist in the schema
    SELECT DISTINCT OWNER, OBJECT_NAME
    FROM ALL_OBJECTS
    WHERE OBJECT_TYPE = 'TABLE'
    AND OBJECT_NAME IN ('ENROLLMENT', 'PRDCT', 'L_P_L')
    AND OWNER in ('Schema_1', 'Schema_2', Schema_3', Schema_4',Schema_5', Schema_6')
    ORDER BY OWNER;
    --Query to get the data from the tables in a Schema
    select 'Schema_1@DATABASE_NAME' AS SCHEMA,
    (SELECT MAX(LOAD_DT) FROM Schema_1.LOAD_STATUS) AS MAX_LOAD,
    L_PROD_LINE.PROD_LINE,
    COUNT(DISTINCT ENROLLMENT.MEM_NBR) AS MEMBERSHIP

    ENROLLMENT.PRODUCT_ID = PRDCT.PRODUCT_ID AND
    PRODUCT.PROD_LINE_ID = L_P_L.ID

    ORDER BY OWNER; Do you want to give a list of possible schemas (like the 6 above), or do you want to consider all schemas, however many and whatever they are called?
    You can get the right information for ALL_OBJECTS, but, since you known all the objects of interest are tables, ALL_TABLES will be faster and simpler.
    --Query to get the data from the tables in a Schema
    select 'Schema_1@DATABASE_NAME' AS SCHEMA,
    (SELECT MAX(LOAD_DT) FROM Schema_1.LOAD_STATUS) AS MAX_LOAD,

    PRODUCT.PROD_LINE_ID = L_P_L.ID
    GROUP BY
    L_P_L.PROD_LINE;I take it that the tables in question are ENROLLMENT, PRDCT and L_P_L; they won't have different names in different schemas.
    You can start this way:
    BEGIN
        FOR  c  IN  (
                          SELECT    owner
                  FROM      all_tables
                  WHERE     table_name  IN ( 'ENROLLMENT'
                                            , 'PRDCT'
                                  , 'L_P_L'
                  GROUP BY  owner
                  HAVING    COUNT (*) = 3
        LOOP
            ...  -- Now get the results for tables in the c.owner schema
        END LOOP;
    END;
    /This will find the schemas that have all 3 of those tables.
    Inside the loop, write another dynamic query. All that will change is the value of c.owner
    Sorry, I'm running out of time now. I hope this helps.

  • We need to open the connection each time you read a message from the queue?

    Hi
    I have a doubt regarding my queue read data that contains those I create a session and connection.
    Whenever I do this or you can create a connection and get all data from the queue and then close the connection and session
    eg. I have 1000 files in the queue and I read all files but without creating a session and a connection every time you get a single figure, this can be done?
    I read the 1000 files without having close the session or the connection
    thanks for the help.

    I answered myself.
    No need to open a connection and a session each to be read from a data queue to extract the entire contents of the queue with only one session and open a single connection.

    Are you saying that Yos/10.10, as a volume located in a mounted external drive won't appear as an option in Snow Leopard's Startup Disc, in Sys Prefs? I've never heard this one before. AFAIK any mounted volume, regardless of OS, should appear there. I would think that, if it appears in the Boot Picker/Startup Manager it would also appear and could be booted to from Snow's Startup Disk. I can't test this myself, since I don't have Yos. Is what you are saying documented somewhere?

  • [8i] Need help with hierarchical (connect by) query

    First, I'm working in 8i.
    My problem is, I keep getting the error ORA-01437: cannot have join with CONNECT BY.
    And, the reason I get that error is because one of the criteria I need to use to prune some branches with is in another table... Is there anyway to work around this? I tried an in-line view (but got the same error). I thought about using the connect by query as an in-line view and filtering off what I don't want that way, but I'm not sure how to filter out an entire branch...
    Here is some simplified sample data:
    CREATE TABLE     bom_test

    You mean you want don't want the descendants (children, grandchildren, etc.) of any component whose part_type is not 'M'.
    The part_type of the component itself doesn't matter: component '101-34' is included, even though its part_type is 'P', and component 'X525-101' is excluded, even though its part_type is 'M'.

    Any suggestions?Sorry, I don't have an Oracle 8.1 database at hand now. All three of the queries below get the correct results in Oracle 10.2, and I don't believe they do anything that isn't allowed in 8.1.
    You can't do a join and CONNECT BY in the same query on Oracle 8.1.
    I believe you can do one first, then the other, using in-line views. The frist two queries do the join first.
    --     Query 1: Join First
    SELECT     LEVEL
    ,     component
    ,     parent
    ,     qty_per
    FROM     (     -- Begin in-line view to join bom_test and part_test
              SELECT     b.component
              ,     b.parent
              ,     b.qty_per
              ,     p.part_type     AS parent_type
              FROM     bom_test     b
              ,     part_test     p
              WHERE     p.part_nbr     = b.parent
         )     -- End in-line view to join bom_test and part_test
    START WITH     parent     = 'ABC-1'
    CONNECT BY     parent          = PRIOR component
         AND     parent_type     = 'M'
    ;Query 2 is very much like Query 1, but it does more filtering in the sub-query, returning only rows hose part_type or whose parent's part_type is 'M". Your desired result set will be a tree taken entirely from this set. Query 2 may be faster, because the sub-query is more selective, but then again, it may be slower because it has to do an extra join.
    {code}
    -- Query 2: Join first, prune in sub-query
    SELECT     LEVEL
    ,     component
    ,     parent
    ,     qty_per
    FROM     (     -- Begin in-line view to join bom_test and part_test
              SELECT     b.component
              ,     b.parent
              ,     b.qty_per
              ,     p.part_type     AS parent_type
              FROM     bom_test     b
              ,     part_test     p
              ,     part_test     c
              WHERE     p.part_nbr     = b.parent
              AND     c.part_nbr     = b.component
              AND     'M'          IN (c.part_type, p.part_type)
         )     -- End in-line view to join bom_test and part_test
    START WITH     parent     = 'ABC-1'
    CONNECT BY     parent          = PRIOR component
         AND     parent_type     = 'M'
    {code}
    Query 3, below, takes a completely different approach. It does the CONNECT BY query first, then does a join to see what the parent's part_type is. We can easily cut out all the nodes whose parent's part_type is not 'M', but that will leave components like 'R245-9010' whose parent has part_type 'M', but should be excluded because its parent is excluded. To get the correct results, we can do another CONNECT BY query, using the same START WITH and CONNECT BY conditions, but this time only looking at the pruhed results of the first CONNECT BY query.
    {code}
    --     Query 3: CONNECT BY, Prune, CONNECT BY again
    SELECT     LEVEL
    ,     component
    ,     parent

    I suspect that Query 3 will be slower than the others, but if the CONNECT BY query is extremely selective, it may be better.
    It would be interesting to see your findings using the full tables. Please post your observations and the explain plan output.

    Trying to open Premiere elements 12 for the first time even though I had it loaded for a while.  It gives me a message that I need to be connected to the internet (which I am) or that my clock is off (it is correct).  Any suggestions?

    First we need to check , whether the LAN settings is set to detect settings Automatically or not.
    Follow below steps .
    1)Open Control Panel and then click on the option "Network and Internet" .
    2)Click on Internet options, click on 'Connections' tab.
    3)In the 'Connections' tab, select 'LAN' settings, you will be able to view the Local area network settings box.
    4)Check the box-"Automatically Detect Settings" and then "uncheck" all the other check boxes like 'Use automatic configuration script', 'Use a proxy server' , Bypass proxy server' ,then click on ok button .
    5)Click on "LAN settings" button again , make sure "Automatically Detect Settings" is the only option selected, keep the LAN properties window open.
    Then launch Premiere Elements 12 and try to sign in.
    If the settings were already set like that or you face same issue after signing in , let me know

    Hi RonWM,
    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    This article lists the ports that are used by the Apple TV:

  • Need help/info on "database link of same name has an open connection"

    Hello,
    I am trying to create an application on html db (new in html db) to see if I can move data from one database (oracle 9i) say dbdev to another one called dbtest. I want to be able to select the data from html db app and by clicking on a button move them to dbtest ( right now only looking at data from one table ). This is what I have done so far:
    1. created a duplicated table of dbdev into html db with no data.
    2. created package with procedures to
    A. create a database link
    B. delete if there is a record on html db table
    C. go trough a loop (cursor) and get the data from dbdev
    D. drop the database link
    Now, when I do all of the above steps I get an error “database link of same name has an open connection" but when I don’t do the step C. I don’t get this error. So something is wrong in my step C. On my step C, I just open the cursor, do a for loop and insert the records into my html db table.
    Any idea!!!
    Thanks
    More questions to come…..

    never mind, I should not drop the database link with in the procedure.
    thx

  • Why "slow server alert" when NO running requests and NO open connections??

    The snapshot below says it all.  Why on earth would my dev machine with no running requests, and no open database connections, kick off a slow server alert?
    I will tell you that at the exact same time this snapshot was generated, my other two servers WERE hung and were reporting "Unresponsive alerts", and they connect to the same databases.  I am chasing down a chronic communication failure between our database and web servers where everything with a databae connection gets locked/hung at the same time every night, 7 days a week.  The hang lasts anywhere from a few mins to 40+ mins.
    Is this why my dev server would report slow?  And if so, is it the skimmers or what that's causing a slow server alert??  Would it only report "Unresponsive" if there were actual page requests hanging, vs. a "Slow Server Alert"?
    This is CF10 (update 12) 64-bit on Windows 2008 R2, IIS 7, connecting to separate Oracle 11g server.
    Thanks for any insights.
