Organizer & Tags in Premiere Elements 7

I am interested in upgrading from Premiere Elements 4 to Premiere Elements 7 in part because of the Organizer, since I use a lot of stills in my projects. I also use Photoshop CS3 & Bridge CS3. It seems Bridge does not see the PRE 7 tags.
Where are they stored? I want to make sure I back them up since I'll be going through a significant amount of work to tag my files.

Tags and metadata are actually stored on the photo or media file, g. That means that, when you install a new version of the Organizer, it will see them.
In fact, Bridge should also see most of that metadata too.

  • How can I rebuild my Organizer catalog in Premiere Elements?

The Organizer keeps a catalog of all the media files on your system. In most cases, it will update automatically.
You can also manually update its files by locating the files with broken links (They'll be displaying a "refresh" symbol, red and green arrows in a circle). To update or remove these links, open the full-feature Organizer in Premiere Elements by clicking on the Tagging button under the Organize tab. Then locate the broken link icons, right-click on each and choose the option to update (You'll then be prompted to browse to the file's location) or delete the thumbnail.
As a last resort, you can simply remove the current catalog, forcing Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements to rebuild it.
To do this, go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\ (In Vista go to C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\)and change the name of the folder "My Catalog" to "Old catalog". When you relaunch the program(s), they will recreate the catalog based on the media it locates on your drive(s).

Are you manually copying the .lrcat file from one place to another or are you relying on LR’s backup function to do this?  I would do it manually just to be sure what you’re doing and check the timestamp and size of the copied file and make sure it is the same as the catalog you just copied from.
Also, how are you copying the file from your house to your friend’s house?  Are your computers networked together, somehow, or are you using a thumbdrive/flashdrive, or is the catalog stored on an external USB drive that you copy across?
How are you opening the catalog at your friend’s house, by double-clicking on it, or are you just starting LR and expecting it to remember what catalog to open?
Are these catalogs on the same drive letter at your friends house, either C: or another drive that you’ve configured to be the same drive letter?
To perfect your process, I’d use a catalog with just one photo in it that you adjust each time in some way that is obvious, and see if you can get that to work and once you are confident with that small catalog, do the large one.
A final point of clarification, by LR catalog you are referring to a single large file name yourcatalogname.lrcat, right, and that file is not located in a Backups folder?  You can check the locaton of your catalog file by using LR / Preferences / Catalog Settings / General tab and the first line in the Information section shows the folder where your catalog resides.

  • Can Elements 9 Organizer send to Premiere Elements 7?

When right-clicking an item in the Elements 9 Organizer the context sensitive menu includes "Edit with Photoshop Elements..." & "Edit with Premiere Elements...".
These "Edit with" dialogs look only for  PSE9 and PRE9. Is there a way to make the PRE link open up PRE7?

    Neale
I have looked specifically at what I think that you tried to demonstrate in your mini videos, that is, how long it takes
    (a) for video thumbnails to populate completely all the frames of a given video dragged to the Premiere Elements 9 vs 7 Timeline
    as well as
    (b) for video thumbnails to populate completely all the frames viewed after toggling from Timeline Zoom In Zoom Out.
I started with the fundamental observation that the Video Track Display Style default was NOT the same in Premiere Elements 7 and 9. The same 4 Styles are offered in 7 and 9
    a. All frames from of the video displayed with thumbnails of video imported to that video track
    b. Only the first and last frame displayed with thumbnails of the video imported to that video track.
    c. Only the first frame displayed with thumbnail of the video imported to that video track.
    d. None of the frames from the video displayed with thumbnails of video imported to that video track.
The default for Premiere Elements 7 is “a” whereas the default for Premiere Elements 9 is “b”. And, I have not found a location in either program to reset that default. It is obvious, if you use the Premiere Elements 9 default with only the first and last frame expected to be populated with a video image, rate of population of frames with video images might not be as obvious. I have no way of knowing whether or not Adobe made this default change as a tradeoff for something else new in the Timeline. But it makes me wonder "Why the change?" Be that as it may.
I did some comparisons of the matter with a 5 minutes MPEG4.avi video (so about 9000 frames). My initial testing indicated:
    a. Generally time for population of all frames with video was quicker with Premiere Elements 7 than 9, but not all the time.
    b. The slowest time of population of all frames in Premiere Elements 9 was 3 to 4 seconds which could be brought to essentially “instant” with the sequence:
Make sure that the video thumbnail in the Media Area was properly Updated
Import the video to the Timeline with its defauft Track Display Style “b”
After video was on the Timeline, change the Default Track Display Style to “a”
Then do your toggle Zoom In, Zoom Out.
Making sure that the Timeline was selected also seemed to factor into quicker or instantaneous population of all the frames with video.
At the present time I do not have access to a computer with greater resources to rule in or out that possible aspect of the problem. Too, the source of the video, number of frames involved, and project settings do need to be defined in these observations. Neale, it looked like you were dealing with a 4 minute video, so I used a 5 min video for testing - NTSC DV Standard project. And, it was really too early for me to report even the above. But, I did feel that the points above did need to enter into the discussion.
Whatever the case, I do not feel that the performance of Premiere Elements 9 in this regard is a deal breaker for me.
    To be continued…..

  • Why Won't Organizer Open in Premiere Elements 9?

Organizer has stopped working.  When I click on Organizer from my home page Elements just closes down.  If I open a new or an existing project I cannot access Organizer. It was working but shut down yesterday.
Another problem I'm having is the drop down menu on the Filter in the Media page does not work.  The menu drops down but the instant I move the cursor the menu closes. I can't access the drop down menu by keyboard either.  For example:  I'd like to filter by an album I created but I can't get to it.

How much free, clean, freshly defragmented space is on your C drive? You'll need at least 20-30 gigs of clean, defragmented space in order for these programs to properly perform. (4 gigs of RAM is also recommended.)
When did you last run a program like Advanced System Care to clean and tune your hard drive? Even brand new computer can be cluttered with junk and tmp files.

  • How do I set up Premiere Elements 13 as the custom external editor for Lightroom 5?

    Situation
I own Lightroom 5.6 and I'm experienced. I've just bought Premiere Elements 13 and I'm a video-editing virgin (be gentle with me). I've spent a day experimenting, reading, watching videos and I'm still stuck (I've tried reasonably hard to solve my own problem).
    Problem
I've tried to set up the custom external editor in Lightroom 5 to send photos to Premiere Elements, so that I can incorporate images into movies. Having set it up, when I use it by selecting Photo/Edit In/Premiere Elements 13/, there is an exciting lull as a copy of the image is created and appears in LR, then Premiere Elements launches, then what??? There is no clue as to what has happened to the image regarding its import into Premiere Elements 13. It doesn't appear on the screen, it doesn't appear in the Organizer, it's no-where to be seen, other than in LR!
    Resolution sought:
    Can anyone tell me
    1. Is it possible to use Premiere Elements as an external editor in LR5 ?
    2. What are the precise settings should be for each field?
    3. If I configure it correctly, what does good look like: what should I expect to see happen in Premiere Elements?
I don't know if this is relevant: MacBook Pro 16GB 2.8Ghz i7, 750GB SSD (i.e. plenty of space, plenty of horsepower), OS X 10.9.5
I also don't know if I this is the right place for my question (Adobe directed me here) so please don't shout at me if I've come to the wrong place (I expect if I get no joy here, when I post it to an LR forum, they'll shout at me too :-)
    Thanks

I do not have Lightroom 5 or other version of it. I did do some work on an earlier version tryout of it.
And, I believe now as then, that the answer to your question is No. Bottom line, if there is integration
to be found between Lightroom, it is between Photoshop Elements and the Elements Organizer, not the Premiere Elements Editor.
The following is the extent of my travels through Lightroom with focus the Slideshow Module.

  • Premiere Elements 9 Project Media View List & Icon Icons Gone

Today at another forum that I frequent, a Premiere Elements 9 user was distressed because he could not find the List (Ctrl + Page Up) & Icon (Ctrl _ Page Down) icons that were found in the prior version of the Project Media View. The Icon view was particularly useful for sorting media before dragging to the Timeline or for the Create Slideshow feature. Now in Premiere Elements 9, all you have are your media in a list format with no option to sort.
This person simultaneously posted his question at another forum for which he received a reply and a workaround  which included going into the Elements Organizer/Create/SlideShow Editor and create a slideshow that could be outputted (Edit in Premiere Elements) back into Premiere Elements 9. I would take issue with that suggested approach since I believe that there is an easier and quicker workaround to overcome the inconvenient loss of those features in Premiere Elements 9 Project Media View.
First, the questions and then my workaround for this situation
Does anyone know if Adobe is aware of this situation and intends to correct this oversight or intentional change in features?
Has anyone come up with his/her favorite workaround for this matter?
Bottom Line for my workaround: From Premiere Elements 9 workspace, go to Elements Organizer workspace and create a sorted album of the media brought into Premiere Elements 9 Get Media/Files & Folders. Then exist Elements Organizer, opening to Premiere Elements workspace where one uses Filter by: Select Album and does just that.
I will post a step by step on my suggested workaround if requested.

I was trying to be discreet and have us still remain friends, so I did not mention the responder at the other forum by name or place. You let the cat out of the bag. OK, no offense taken please, but I thought that your workaround "Elements Organizer/Create/Slideshow/Edit With Premiere Elements" was "not so good" a choice. I will owe up to that.
None of the workarounds are as good as the Adobe Icon View of prior version, but....
Workaround 1. If your interest is getting sorted photos for using the Create Slideshow Feature in Project Media View. The secret is to put the photos in a Folder and then move the photos around in the Folder. I can go into the choreography on that if need be. Then highlight all the photos in the Folder, select Create Slideshow. Even if you do not go the Create Slideshow route, this is one way to get sorted photos for the Timeline.
Workaround 2. If the Create Slideshow feature is not involved. Going the create Album route in Elements Organizer.
Premiere Elements 9 Get Media/Files and Folders
    Add Media Dialog
    Select photos, Click Open
Select Organizer in the row above the line of Organize/Edit/Disc Menus/Share to open the Elements Organizer.
In the Elements Organizer, go to the Albums category and expand that category, then click on the green cross, and select New Album. On that right side of the Elements Organizer you will see a window with two tabs, Content and Sharing. Select Content and drag your media from the major window on the left to the Content window on the right. Name the album and click Done.
You will then see your Album name listed in the Album’s category. Click the green icon to the left of the Album name. When you do, you will see thumbnails for your photos numbered sequentially in the major window on the left side of the Elements Organizer. Sort the photos there as you want them arranged on the Timeline. Then exit Elements Organizer via File Menu/Exit.
The Premiere Elements Organize workspace will open. Go to the Filter by: Select Album and do just that, selecting the sorted album that you just created. Highlight the photos  and drag them to the Timeline.
That is what I have come up with so far. I have been doing a lot of retesting of the principle to make sure that it would work more than just the first time.
What do you think? Contribution or first class dud??
    ATR
Just another possible variation on the thought with regard to Create Slideshow....it might merit thinking about numerically or alphabetically ordering your photos in a Folder beforehand and then bringing the Folder into Premiere Elements so that you have the Folder in Project Media View...Select All...Right Click Highlight....Create Slideshow?????

  • Adobe premiere elements works with adobe photoshop elements 12?

I use adobe photoshop elements 12, now I would like to add adobe premiere elements 13; are the two programs correctly working together?
Romanon thanks you for an answer.

    romanom
Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 13 are standalone products. Each comes with an Elements Organizer, Photoshop Elements 12 with the Elements Organizer 12 and Premiere Elements 13 with the Elements Organizer 13.
When a matching version set of the two is installed on the same computer, the Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements share the same Elements Organizer.
Consequently, you are going to run into a loss of integration perks by mismatching the combo.
One example...slideshows created in the Elements Organizer 12 can be gotten into the Elements Organizer 13, but only after accepting that 13 will change the slideshow format into its new format rather than retain the format of the pre-13 Slideshow Editor.
Please supply more details if you have specific Photoshop Elements Premiere Elements requirements.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere Elements 4 auto analyze off

Help.  I tried to install Premiere Elements 9 on my old Vista machine and got the dreaded error 1935 CE3230AC-E72E-3EDF-8A57-87FCE1CF2629 HRESULT: 0x80071A30.  Searching for help, I came to the conclusion that it is a registry cash screwed up and reinstalling Vista is really the only way.  So I went back, reinstalled Premiere Elements 4 and came here for help with:  Auto Analyze, scene detect seems to be on and I can't turn it off??? Capturing video from DV leaves me with 100 files instead of the 1 I want.  Impossible to find help/support for PE4.  Anyone know now to turn this make many files on capture off????

    Hello Steve
I have attached a couple screen shots.  Let me know if you have any trouble seeing, I can always post them to another location.
    You say
You can launch the Elements Organizer from the Premiere Elements Welcome screen when you first start the program.
I have attached the welcome screen where I see no way to launch Ele organizer.  What am I missing?  The top menu items are all unaccessable.
    You say
The option to break scenes by content is on the the Capture screen, which opens when you select the DV Capture option under the Get Media button under the Premiere Elements Edit tab.
I can find no such option except one grayed out under clip back at the project screen.  Again I have attached a couple screen shots to show you what I see.
There must be something obvious that I am missing or that is different about my APE4 instance.
    Happy Sunday

In order to turn off the background Auto Analyzer, you need to be in the Elements Organizer program. Not Premiere Elements. You can launch the Elements Organizer from the Premiere Elements Welcome screen when you first start the program.
The option to break scenes by content is on the the Capture screen, which opens when you select the DV Capture option under the Get Media button under the Premiere Elements Edit tab. This will only affect how the program performs with freshly captured DV video, of course.

I downloaded and installed Photoshop Elements & Premiere Elements.  I then launched Photoshop Elements Organizer and imported approx. 28,000 photos (including some videos).  A window opened indicating that many of the photos had tags, and asking if I wanted to add the tags.  I said yes, and the process began.  When it reached 60% a window opened indicating that "Elements 13 Organizer has stopped working", with the only option being to "Close program."
I've since tried to open organizer several times, but it goes immediately to "Elements 13 Organizer has stopped working".  I was able to open Editor, and tried opening Organizer from Editor, but encountered the same problem.

  • Newbie question about Premiere Elements Organizer

This is a pre-newbie – let’s say “virgin” question. If there is an answer already posted elsewhere, please send me a link.
I’m about to install Premiere Elements 9 to do some clip editing and animation from still images.  This would be my first attempt to edit clip or do some animation from still images, besides using Windows Media Maker with my HS students. However, I have been a pretty serious photographer for 20+ years with 1,000’s of images which I now work on in PS CS5 Extended and Lightroom 3. I use Adobe Bridge and LR library to catalogue and organize my images. I’d like to continue to use AB / LR Library to organize my new clips and projects. From reading Bill’s posts, it seems I can use Adobe Bridge, copy my original file, resize in Photoshop, and save in a new folder to use for a Premiere project. This would seem to be most intuitive way for me to work. I already have keywords, metadata, actions in PS… etc. But I think Bill is using Premiere Pro, while I’ll be installing Premiere Elements, which comes bundled with Elements Organizer. Do I need to install or use Elements Organizer? What are the advantages/disadvantages or EO?  I guess I’m a little worried about installing the programs and having EO automatically acquire images using presets/defaults that I don’t want to use as well as issues with subfolders, etc. I'm running Windows 7.
    Thanks
FYI- this is a great animation project

EO doesn't do much with the files themselves, just maintains links to the sources.
For folders you are best to use the folder view in EO to move them as it doesn't keep track of folder locations when changed in Windows Explorer. From the File options in Bridge I think that is pretty much the same.

I would like to get as much input as possible on the advantages/disadvantages of using EO vs say Adobe Bride from others who use Elements Organizer.
    Any insights would be appreciated.
Can anyone who has used both EO and AB comment on how EO handles missing (hidden) files, syncing issues, computer hanging up or crashing....etc?
I've only messed around a little with Bridge. But to me it seems lightening fast by comparison to EO. The features Albums and Tags in EO seem much the same as Collections and Keywords in Bridge.
EO has Face Recognition abilities - getting more sophisticated in each version. I've not seen this feature in Bridge.
By default EO allows you to open a file in any of:
    Photoshop
    Photoshop Elements
    Premiere Elements
A single used-defined application (I have mine set to ColorPilot).
Bridge only seems to link to Photoshop.
Missing files can be located manually or by allowing EO to search for them.

  • Moving a group of files from Organizer into Premiere Elements 10

I've just spent two hours trying (unsuccessfully) to figure out how to use tags in Organizer to select a subset of files in an album and then send those files into Premiere Elements 10.  I don't want them in the timeline, I just want to import only those files with specific tags in Organizer into a new project in Premiere Elements as media to use to create a project in Elements.  I'm willing to save copies of these files into a new folder on my hard drive if that's what it takes, but I can't figure out how to do that either.  Help??

    In Windows do this:
Have PRE open in your blank project with the Media pane displayed.
    Select your clips in Organizer.
Drag the clips over the PRE icon in the taskbar. Do NOT release the mouse button.
After a second or so PRE will display.
Still holding the mouse button move the mouse drag icon over the media panel.
Now release the mouse button and your clips will be in the project media and your timeline will be empty.
