Organizing tracks on same album

Movements of classical works are out of order in iTunes. I found tips that it can be caused by slight differences in titles or performers - not the factor in my case. At one point I do recall being given a complex, arcane instruction for moving around iTunes selections. Why can't it just be done by pressing a key and moving it to where you want it?  For example, tracks 2, 3 & 4 rather than 4, 2 & 3.

iTunes sees any group of tracks with the same Album title and *Album Artist* (or just Artist if Album Artist isn't set) as the same "thing". Add art to one track and it will be associated with all the others.
Are you using iTunes to "fetch album artwork"? This will also tie the one image to all tracks. You can embed multiple images into each track, and give different tracks different images, but an album will always be represented by one specific image in List, Grid & CoverFlow views. This holds even when, for example, you look at a playlist which holds only one track from the album and that track has a different image.

  • Can photos in albums from iPhone be organized into the same album on Mac?

I have set up IFTTT to save photos I am tagged in from Facebook and add them to an album "Facebook tags" on my iPhone. When I sync my iPhone to my Mac, I would like for these photos to also be placed in an album on my Mac called "Facebook tags". Is this possible? Right now, when I sync my iPhone, the photos just get included with other photos that are from my camera roll.

You can solve this problem by making use of BOTH the "artist" field and the "album artist" field in iTunes.  In 95% of cases, they will be identical.  But when there are issues like you described -- the occasional guest artist, etc. -- then let the "artist" field handle that.  And let the "album artist" be the name of the main artist on the album.  Make sure all the songs in the album have the same "album artist", even if some of the songs have different "artists."  Your album will now contain all the songs.  I also utilize this feature when I am uploading a classical CD.  I use the artist field for the conductor, symphony orchestra, pianist, etc., who is actually performing on the album.  But I use the album artist for the actual composer of the music -- Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, etc.  This works well, too.

  • Divided songs from same album.

    Hi there.
Just want to know if there is some kind to Magic Trick to solve issue with tracks of same album.
Ex. Album has 10 songs but they are displayed into 2 groups> 1 group from song 1 to 7 and the other from song 8 to 10 (I need to mentionate that they all had same info, no different Artist, Group artist or any other kind of info that could arrange it into those groups)
Hope there could be any help. Many thanks.

    Hi there!
Thanks for replying so fast. Right now I am at the work but once I arrive to my home I will visit that link and see what happens...
    I really appreciate your help.

  • How can I quickly get the same album art for all tracks on an album without manually doing them one at a time?

I am having trouble with album art linked to each track. My library is ripped from my own cd's and ITunes only provides some of the artwork from a find artwork search. The rest must be found and added one at a time manually from web. This process is tedious and time consuming for me. Is there a file in iTunes related to each album that I can just drop the art once and it shows up linked to all the tracks from that album when they play? I've tried selecting all songs from an album and dragging the artwork to the artwork window once in hopes of all tracks getting the artwork at the same time with no luck. Any advice for this paltry artwork dilemma would be appreciated. If Cassidy & Greene still owned this ******* child of SoundJam I know I would not be having this problem! HaHa...Thanks for any advice/help with this problem.

Thx 4 quick reply alexbird. Your method will work and after a little experimenting so will this: Just go to the album art view option and highlight the album you want artwork for. Drag the artwork from your album art web search page to bottom left hand album art window in iTunes and just drop it there. A small progress window then appears showing each album track adopting the dropped artwork one by one. It only takes 10-15 seconds for all of the tracks on your album to adopt the new artwork. I then went back and removed unwanted artwork(from the albums that had it) track by track from the get info menu. This goes pretty quick as you just pick track>get info>artwork>highlight art>delete>ok for each track.
This drag/drop to the album art view page has been the simplest and most effective way I have discovered to manually import album artwork into iTunes so far. Hope this helps someone else out there. Any other methods or suggestions to do this task added to this thread will be duly noted. Thx... Oh, I am currently using iTunes 10.5.1

  • Why does iTunes show tracks that I've ripped from a single CD as individual tracks with individual albums all with the same album name?

I've looked all the data about each track in terms of album name and other seemingly relevant pieces of stuff, but whenever I look at my songs by albums, it still shows these tracks individually. It's like the same album is repeated over and over instead of the album appearing once with all the tracks listed beneath it.

EG. A CD upload has all of the tracks appearing as indivual alumbs. But as its not physically on the computer anymore I dont seem to be able to do anything about it.  Is there away for me to access cloud and rectify this? or manage it from a device?
    Thanks
You can edit the "metadata" of the tracks in the cloud just as you would if the tracks were physically on your computer. Hightlight the tracks of the album you want to edit, do a Get Info..., edit "metadata," click OK.

  • ITunes match tracks different volumes from the same album

Using iTunes Match.  Among other reported problems, after downloading Matched tracks to my master iTunes library to replace lower bitrate versions, the new tracks from the same album have different loudness or volumes between the tracks.  Is this because iTunes Match is matching the songs to different versions of the same album?  Where some albums have been 'remastered' or such, that the recorded volume between the albums is different?  But instead of matching tracks to the same version of the album, some are being matched to different versions of the same album?
Quite offputting to listen to a single album where track to track loudness changes suddenly.
PS, I'm not using SoundCheck on my Mac.

Same problem here. I'm an "album" kind of music fan and when I'm listening matched albums that the sound quality and voulme changes I get really put off. Case in point B-52's self-titled album: tracks 1,2, 5 & 7, nice and loud; 3, 4, 6, 8 & 9 tiny sounding in comparison...Hello?  So far iTunes Match is not worth my money. I'd like to hear form an Apple iTunes Match repersentative to know if this issue will be resolved. As it is, is not very useful. Please fix the problem. Also many of my albums show that a track or a few will not be matched but uploaded to the cloud which means more of my albums will be spotty sounding as tracks will have different bit rate, etc. There is no real excuse for not matching whole albums as oppose to single songs. I read somwhere the 'typical" case of the Beatles "Abbay Road" album not matching "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" on most users. I think is silly to say the less. Albums matching not single songs, please!!!

  • Itunes places imported tracks in different albums with same name

When I import a CD, itunes can't seem to keep these files in the same album if they happen to be by different artists.  I've tried manually editing the track information using the "get info" screen, but just can't get it.  The initial download places the tracks together, but after I use the "get track titles" option and download the track titles from Gracenote, I'm left with multiple albums, even though the albums show as having the same name.

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • If I import a CD onto iTunes with tracks that have more than one person on (eg Rihanna ft Drake), it puts these tracks in a separate album. How do I get them all back into the same album?

It's done it with a load of cds, so then I can't even get the album artwork to work. Please help! It's starting to bug me haha

In iTunes select all songs you want in the same album, right click the selection, choose "get info", type the album name in the album field, click OK.

  • Same tracks on 2 albums

I wish to buy an album but it says a lot of them are already purchased which is fine as they are on my other album. My question is, should I purchase this new album will it download the "purchased" ones and give me duplicates or will it ignore them?

If a track shows up in the store as Purchased then iTunes thinks you have already purchased that track from that album, not a matching track for a different one. Depending on various factors the purchase price for the album may reflect a discount for the previously purchased tracks. If you purchase the album iTunes should only download the remaining tracks from the album.
The behaviour may or may not be slightly different if you have purchased iTunes Match (which I haven't) but the easiest way to find out, assuming you want the album, is to buy it and see.

  • Songs from same album not listing as within one album

Okay, here's a problem that's kind of strange. I already owned an album, bought on CD, that I have imported into iTunes. I later wanted to make one of the songs into a ringtone for the iPhone, which you can only do with stuff bought from iTunes, so I purchased the song, figuring I would just add it into the album. I changed all of the information to be the exact same between the ones I'd imported and this song from iTunes, and it sorts correctly when sorted by "Artist," but if sorted by "Album by Artist," it moves the downloaded song to being from another album, though it's the exact same, and it Coverflow it also lists them as two seperate albums though they are not.
Is there a way to get iTunes to recognize that these tracks are from the same album or is this just an anoyance I will have to deal with?
    Thanks.

In short, there are two possibilities: either you didn't actually get the information identical, or iTunes is slightly confused. Both happen to me pretty regularly.
If you have iTunes keeping your music organized, there's an easy check: pick one of the songs, right click, select Show In Finder. Is your new purchased song in the same folder as the CD you imported? If not, the information is definitely different. The most recent time this happened to me, the imported CD had the "Compilation" box checked.
Next thing: select all of the songs from the album - the imported CD and the purchased song. Right click one of them, select Get Info (or choose Get Info from the File menu). The artist, album artist (if there is one), and the album title, should all be showing. If not, it means that one of those values isn't actually the same for all the tracks.
After that's all fixed up, it's time to blame iTunes. In that case, make a small change to the artist, album artist, and album name. I just add an X to the end of the name. Click OK, and hopefully now the tracks will all be grouped the way you expect. Get Info again and put the names back the way they belong.
    Good luck!

  • How can I sort audio by tracks within each album?

I am trying to use an ipod to listen to a series of lectures. The lectures are organized in a specific sequence of tracks. This is similar to songs in an album except that I need to listen to them in a specified order. Listening to the lectures in a random order is totally useless because it's confusing.
I tried a number of ways to sort the files and the ipod just refuses to cooperate. I even manually renamed each file to start with a number for easy sorting. The ipod still refused to cooperate. I am almost ready to get a hammer to fix it permanently.
I guess I am the only person who has this request since it's so difficult to make the ipod work as needed.

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
When you say lectures, have they been downloaded via iTunes U? If so ordering may be chaotic and based on release date. Otherwise generally all you need to do is set a track number and give all the items the same album name. If all else fails create a playlist and drag things into the order you require.

  • Tracks missing from albums in library

i have tried importing ensuring all artist info is the same, still i miss certian tracks from the album.itunes reads it as an album but when imported i have the odd track missing, help help..please

Sorting on the album column may help to reveal the missing tracks which could be sorted elsewhere in the library and so only appear to be missing.

  • How can I get all tracks from an album into the album in my library?

When importing the albums from a folder, the tracks for some of the albums were split up.  How can I get them in one?

    Hello JudyD276
The article below will give the steps to get the songs grouped together for you.
Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together?

  • HT1473 How do I get iTunes to download an entire album in one file versus splitting it into multiple files with the same Album Title?

I have added several CDs to my iTunes files, several Albums were added in the form of multiple files of the same Album title with random songs listed, but not the entire album in one file.
I have tried to reassemble the Album into one file, but could not find a way to do so.

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.
