Orphaned DB session on remove() of CMP EJB?

During a stress test of our application we encountered a strange
situation after several days. An ApplicationServerThread was
locked on a socketRead of the Oracle thin driver connected to
Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris. Checking the database locks we found
that the thread's query, a delete of one record, was blocked due
to a lock held by another session which was in the act of
deleting another record (using the same query) from the same
table. However, there was no other thread in OC4J that was
currently blocked on such a request, and consequently the lock
is never released as there is no thread acting on that
connection. We are guessing, for some reason, the database
connection object was "lost" and never committed, causing the
lock to persist forever. The entity EJB that was being removed
is using CMP. Eventually all of the server threads enter a wait
state waiting for a monitor to act on the same entity EJB,
seizing the server. Killing the DB session that held the lock
allowed the application to continue running.
Has anyone else experienced anything of this sort before? How
did you solve or get around it?
The test was run on a Linux server OC4J 1.0.2.2.1, JDK 1.3.1_01,
but we've also seen this running on Solaris.
Any help or pointers appreciated. Thanks.

I have encountered a similar problem.( Solaris jdk1.3.1)
Would be interested to know if you found any solution.

    I more or less followed the EJB Tutorial (in the help) for creating a session-entity bean facade from Oracle 9i tables. Everything executes correctly in the embedded oc4j but it fails on the remote oc4j with

    Are there any known problems I should look out for with generating CMP EJBS with wizards?
    I think the IDE is more intuitive than WSAD. It would be great it things worked though.
    Another question is regarding relationships. Do the wizards always use ejb-refs to implement relationships? It should be easy enough to add them with EJB Editor if they do not.
    Thanks for any help.

    Known issues are documented in the release notes
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/htdocs/readme_903Preview.html#ejb
    <<<Another question is regarding relationships. Do the wizards always use ejb-refs to implement relationships? >>>>
    Not sure what you meant here. If you reverse engineer let us say DEPT and EMP tables, foreign key relationships between the tables are reverse engineered as CMR but there aren't any ejb-ref/ejb-local-ref tags which get generated in the deployment descriptor.
    <<It should be easy enough to add them with EJB Editor if they do not. >>
    You can double-click on the EJB to bring the EJB Module Editor and select "Relationships" node to add/edit/delete relationships visually.

  • ORA-01407 when removing a CMP Entity Bean with WLS 9.1

    Hi all !
    I hope you can help me to solve this ?:|
    I'm migrating my application from WLS 8.1 SP3 to WLS 9.1.
    I'm getting now an SQLException when I try to remove a CMP Entity Bean.
    The stacktrace is as follows:
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01407: cannot update ("USER"."MY_TABLE"."THE_CMR_FIELD") to NULL

    Of course, I replaced the table and column names above to be more readable ;-)
    The table MY_TABLE has a CMR field called THE_CMR_FIELD. The column is not nullable in the database (by the way, it's an Oracle 9i).
    Everything is fine under WLS8.1
    I tried two different Oracle JDBC drivers (9.2.0.5 and 10.2.0.1.0), but the result is always the same within WLS9.1.
    Any ideas or suggestions (or even questions) are more than welcome!
    Thanks
    Eric

    In fact I have this setup:
    <pre>
    workpattern 1..n workpatternday -| 1..n dayperiod
    | 1..n daycoreperiod
    </pre>
    And before 'ejbRemove'ing the workpattern I first remove the days and before that the periods and core periods.
    I start with the periods and instead of removing them in the DB he tries to update the FK to the day with '' (p6spy result).
    When I remove the not null constraint on the foreign key everything passes to the day where the workpatternId cannot be set to null.
    He does not throw errors on the coreperiod (where the not null constraint to day is still present).
    When I invert the sequence of deleting
    (first the core periods then the 'regular' periods) he complains about the dayId on the core periods table.
    So it's completely absurd :S
    I hope weblogic 8.1 might solve this problem as this development code is still to be migrated to 8.1 before going in production...
    I would just like to know what's wrong. There are other places with just about the same relationships (CMR and DB) where he does not complain...

  • Detected orphan OWB sessions

    I encounter this problem everytime a OWB Client developer has his PC crashed or rebooted every now and then. The next time then the OWB Client is started, it pops up with the window indicating 'Detected orphan OWB sessions' and the related information.
    Afterwards, even when the session is killed and removed through the Oracle Enterprise Manager, the message keeps on coming till we issue the ORAKILL command on our Windows server. This is a pain as we have formalities to access the oracle server command prompt and this requires lot of time. Is not there any simple way to release these sessions and locks using OWB Administrator or other methods without having to connect to the OS command prompt on the Oracle Server to issue the ORAKILL.

    Uday,
    If you have DBA privileges, then you can use:
    alter system kill session '<SID>,<serial#>'
    in order to kill sessions. The script below may be helpful to query what is going on:
    select 'alter system kill session '''
    || to_char(sid)
    ||','
    || to_char(serial#)
    || ''' immediate ;' kill_session
    , username || ' (' || osuser || '/' || terminal || ')' dbosname
    , program
    , status
    from v$session
    Mark.

  • Removing a CMP Entity Bean

    I'm trying to remove a CMP Entity Bean from my project but after I do this the application becomes useless. When I start the application afterwards I get such a warning:
    "TopLink found problems in toplink-ejb-jar. Please ensure that there are corrected before deployment"
    After that, at runtime, there are lots of DescriptorExceptions, IntegrityExceptions and NullPointerExceptions. When I added the bean once more I get a bunch of compilation errors because of multiple declarations of the bean methods. I removed the bean once again, closed JDeveloper and removed all reference to that bean within the project (grep). Despite that I am unable to get rid of the aforementioned errors. What should I do?

  • CMP EJBs for Weblogic 6.1

    Hi All
    It seems that when I use the functionality to build a CMP EJB (an EJB that is automatically built based on an Oracle table) the deployment descriptors are missing lots of info so it it not possible to deploy to Weblogic (6.1).
    I'm assuming the functionality intended is that it will be possible to automatically generate CMP EJBs from Oracle and deploy them directly to a iAS/Weblogic etc....
    Session Beans seem OK.
    Anyone got any thoughts on this?
    Dave

    For Weblogic - Users can develop session beans add weblogic-ejb-jar.xml and
    deploy to a WebLogic connection.
    If the project doesn't have a weblogic-ejb-jar.xml and a connection type of Weblogic is choosen for deployment , weblogic-ejb-jar.xml is automatically generated for the EJBs and wrapped in the EJB.jar before deploying to WLS.
    JDeveloper provides Deployment descriptor editors for editing weblogic-ejb-jar.xml thru UI panels. This is very convinient rather than hand editing the XML.
    Currently you would have to add Weblogic cmp specific deployment descriptor into the project and make it part of the EJB.jar during the assembly process (i.e when you create the deployment profile).

  • Additional field in join table for CMP EJB

    Hello,
    I'm trying to perform this task using CMP entity beans:
    The entity A has a CMR relation of cardinality m-n with entity B (bidirectional) (This is working fine).
    I want to add a parameter to the relation.
    Ex : When I find that A1 is linked to B1, I need to perform "x" times an action. x would be my parameter, and I would have kept this parameter as an additional column in the join table A_TO_B.
    Could anyone provide an example of how to perform this with CMP EJB?
    NOTE: I'm using OC4J 10g 9.0.4 standalone (and cannot change my version).
    Thanks
    Tanguy

    Manohar,
    You need to create an append structure for table VBAP (for example ZAVBAP) using SE11. In this structure you create your ZZ fields. If you need a non-SAP domain/data element for your field then you need to create it first using the same transaction and activate it. Attach ZAVBAP to VBAP so the SE11 shows:
    .APPEND in the Fields column and
    ZAVBAP in the Field type column.
    Your ZZ fields will be shown automatically.
    When you have finished then activate your ZAVBAP structure. You will notice when you go VA01 (for example) that a lot of programs are being recompiled. Don't worry. It will be ok.
    The user-exit screen number for items is 8459 (in program SAPMV45A).
    Thanks,

  • Question: How to use XMLType in a CMP EJB???

    Hello, Together,
    I have a big problem using XMLType in a CMP EJB. I don't know, if somebody knows about it:
    I am trying to write a CMP EJB, which should be deployed under JBoss later. The problem here is, which java data type should I use to map a column of XMLType. I have tried to use it as a java.lang.Object, and also as a java.lang.String, it did not work properly.
    Can someone help me? Thanks a lot!

    Just pass the in the JSP/Servlet involved ServletContext through as a method or constructor parameter of that Java class.
    Semi-pseudo:protected doPost(req, res) {
        ServletContext servletContext = getServletContext();
        SomeJavaClass someJavaClass = new SomeJavaClass(servletContext);
        // or

    The issues are resolved now.
    1. This classpath entry problem was a bit mystifying. The manifest entry was
    correct and it should have picked it up automatically. When i restarted the
    server though, it started up properly.
    2. The CMP problem was a bit more troublesome. I think it was because of an
    incorrect datasource and connection pool properties. I used utils.Schema to
    check my database connection and once i got the url and driver name
    correctly it worked.

  • CMP EJB in 1.1/1.2..., mapping problems

    Hello,
    I'm a little bit confused by all these different EJB specifications and products...
    I want to use CMP EJB, because as far as I understand this topic, the container should do a lot of work for me (transaction management, connection pooling) and all tutorials tell me to prefer CMP ;-)
    Now I've got a Java class (to became my CMP EJB) like this:
    class doc {
    Descriptor descr;
    String body;
    and another class:
    class descriptor {
    int id;
    String title;
    My database contains two tables for both classes:
    table descr:
    id int (primary key);
    title varchar;
    table doc:
    fk_descr int; // foreign key to descr
    body varchar;
    Is it possible to make a CMP EJB using these two tables and using a Descriptor object? Which versions of EJB can handle this? Do you have any expirience with that?
    All examples I've read are always using only one table and classes containing only basic types like int, String.
    Thank you,
    Jens

    What you've described is a 1-1 relationship between two classes, which is not supported by CMP until EJB 2.0.

  • Migrating CMP EJB mapped to SQL Server table with identity column from WL

    Hi,
        I want to migrate an application from Weblogic to SAP Netweaver 2004s (7.0). We had successfully migrated this application to an earlier version of Netweaver. I have a number of CMP EJBs which are mapped to SQL Server tables with the PK as identity columns(autogenerated by SQL Server). I am having difficulty mapping the same in persistant.xml. This scenario works perfectly well in Weblogic and worked by using ejb-pk in an earlier version of Netweaver.
       Please let me know how to proceed.
    -Sekhar

    I suspect it is the security as specified in the message. E.g .your DBA set the ID columns so no user can override values in it.
    And I suggest you 1st put the data into a staging table, then push it to the destination, this does not resolve the issue, but ensures better processing.
