OS 9 computers won't connect to OS X Server 10.3.9

Hi,
I just installed Panther server on our network. I've got shares running and all of our OS X computers are connecting nicely. For some reason the few 9.2.2 computers we have won't connect to the server. The server shows up in the chooser, but when I click to connect I just get a spinning status bar telling me it's trying to connect. When I click cancel an authentication dialog box comes up, but when I click on connect I get an alert telling me that the connection has been unexpectedly broken. Does anyone know how to make this work? Thanks.
G5 1.6 Ghz (Server), 2nd Gen iMacs (Clients) Mac OS X (10.3.9) Server on OSX Server 10.3.9, Clients on 9.2.2

Unfortunately, resetting the PRAM, and the SMC, did not solve the problem.  Even though Bluetooth on the Mac Mini seems to be functional, I'm concerned that it only wants to allow connection to a keyboard or a mouse, or to transfer files to, say, an iPhone.  No Sound actions are available in terms of Bluetooth connectivity.
Question:  about 10 months ago, I noted the fan high at high speeds all of a sudden, and little I could do would correct it.  So, I downloaded smcFanControl 2.5.2, and use this to keep the fan at a slightly higher level than would otherwise happen, in order to maintain the CPU temperature below roughly 50 degC.  Would running this app interfere with reset of the SMC?  Or, with full operation of Bluetooth?
Alternatively:  would upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite provide any benefit?

My itunes won't connect to the itunes server. Can someone help?

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.
When you repost, you'll need to include a lot more informaton about your system and the exact nature of the problem. As it is, there's nothing for anyone to base a diagnosis on.

  • Server Admin 10.6.5 won't connect to OS X Server 10.6.6

Recently upgraded Xserve to 10 10.6, ran software update to 10.6.6. Cannot connect to it using Server Admin 10.6.5. Checked for updates, and haven't found any. I can connect via Workgroup Manager, and client computers can connect to server. Any suggestions?

  • Apple Mail won't connect to GoDaddy pop server

    Hi all,
I have entered all the correct server information to connect to GoDaddy's pop server but Mail won't connect. I can connect to the smtp server without a problem. The same settings work perfectly in Entourage, so my information is correct. Has anyone else experienced this issue and fixed it?
    Here are the settings:
    POP: pop.secureserver.net
    AUTHENTICATION: password
    Thanks,
    John

Mine stopped wotking on the 9th, under the mail app on the left hand side, if you have triangles with ! marks in them, perform a left click and start "Mail Connection Doctor" This may help pinpoing the issue.
Mine is failing at trying to connect on port 143.
This worked for me, go the accounts settings window and in each gmail account enter the following info
    Advanced Tab
    IMAP Path Prefix enter [Gmail]
If you then tick "Use SSL" this should make the port 993
Authentication shold be set to "password"
Then save these settings, finally email is received, hope this helps.
Let is know how you get on.

  • Windows XP PC won't connect to Snow Leopard server share points

Cabled network. Two imacs and two pc's. All apart from one PC won't connect.
The Other PC is running the same Windows and connects, see's share points and login using correct user name and password. The Other pc, see's the server under workgroup, but when you go to connect it just whirs away and does nothing. The PC in question connects to internet, prints on network printer fine.
Disabled firewall and checked settings and they are the same as the other pc. Really stumped.
    anybody got any clues?

    The "Trust, but verify" follows...
Launch the MS-DOS command box on Microsoft Windows XP.
Verify IP network connectivity with ping. Ping the Samba/CIFS server by IP, then by name. Ensure that the box you're connecting to is the one you think it is; that can be via telnet or web connections or otherwise; make sure your IP network is configured the way you believe it is, and you're getting to the host you think you're reaching.
If the IP address connection works but the domain name (host name) does not, then debug the DNS validity with dig or nslookup, and ensure the client can get DNS translations.
Verify that the [Windows registry settings|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1590] allow access to Samba/CIFS shares.
If you're not running Microsoft Windows 7 and the x86 gear here supports it, definitely upgrade. Windows 7 is a vast improvement over earlier releases, including over Windows XP.

  • Mail.app 3.6 won't connect to my POP3 server over a proxy

I updated to 10.5.7 the other day, and now Mail.app will not connect to my POP3/SMTP server via my proxy. This is a big problem for me as I work remotely a lot.
My setup - I use Proxifier (www.proxifier.com) and an SSH proxy so I point my Mail.app at the 192.168.* local address of my POP3 server on my home network. Whether I'm physically on the 192.168.* network, or remote but running Proxifier, Mail.app 3.5/10.5.6 would work flawlessly, as would any other application that addressed my local network (e.g., RDC).
Since upgrading to Mail.app 3.6/10.5.7, however, Mail.app will not connect when I'm using the proxy, but works fine when I'm physically connected to that network; it thinks that the servers is offline (even when using the Connection Doctor). All other TCP/IP applications including RDC continue to work fine via proxy. In particular, I can still use "telnet 192.168.x.y 110" and connect correctly to my POP3 server (and interact with it using the POP3 command set), so the issue would appear to be in Mail.app rather than in the connection itselof.
Since Proxifier only proxifies TCP and not UDP connections, is it possible that Mail.app 3.6 now attempts a UDP connection to a mail server to check if it's alive before trying TCP? If that's the case, can it be disabled? I don't know of any requirement that POP3 servers must be able to respond to UDP. Or is there a way I can drop back to 3.5 which DID work?
    Thanks. Jim.

OK, I understand this now (thanks to DHJ for help with experimentation).
    1) Mail.app 3.6 appears to ignore /etc/hosts completely. Mail.app 3.5 honored definitions in /etc/hosts.
I tested this by putting the known IP address of pop.gmail.com into /etc/hosts and calling it foo - I could not receive mail by pointing Mail.app at the server foo.
If this is so, it needs to be documented. This is extremely unusual behavior for a network application. I can see why Apple may be trying to protect us from hosts-hijacking, but this non-standard behavior has eaten up a lot of our time trying to figure it out.
    2) Mail.app 3.6 appears to use a system proxy if one is defined. Mail.app 3.5 did not.
I tested this by verifying that Mail.app 3.6 could receive my mail (modulo the problem in 1) above) when any system proxy was defined, regardless of whether Profixier was running.
Every other application I know that uses the system proxy gives you the option of doing this (e.g., Firefox, Adium, and so on). This is why my Proxifier application was seeing nothing - Mail.app was going right to the system proxy. (FYI, Proxifier is designed to support proxies for applications that have not already been written to support proxies explicitly.)
The combination of 1) and 2) presented as a totally wacky complex problem. Viewed separately they don't seem so difficult to diagnose. Either way, they are both surprising, unusual and, to my knowledge, undocumented.

  • Mavericks won't connect to Snow Leopard server share points

I have 3 imacs, running mavericks which won't successfully log onto Snow Leopard server share points.
The server appears on the list on the left and i get to a login screen when i select the server.
I enter the username and password and the box just shakes.
However if I tick the "access as administrator" in the user prefs on the server, it can connect, however i don't want certain users to have admin rights.
The strange thing is, is that if i choose to login with a user name and password for one of the older macs (10.6), i can log in. But that defeats the object.
This is obviously an authentication issue between mavericks and SL.
    Any one else had this?
    Thanks in advance.

  • I downloaded Firefox 3.6 but won't connect to the (Yahoo) server. Why?

I've been using Firefox as my primary but since last week, the page won't load, says "Firefox can't establish connection to the server at www.yahoo.com. I have no problem getting online through Explorer. What's the problem?

I have already tried removing firefox from my firewall. Even when I do that, my firewall doesn't detect firefox and prompt me to add it. And when I manually add it, it still doesn't work anyways. I've already tried the link as well, but it has been unhelpful. :/
I'm not sure if it matters, but a few weeks before this, I did download Microsoft Security Essentials.

  • Oracle Business Component Browser won't connect to a SQL Server db

I have a System DSN called Northwind on my machine that uses a new login id called NorthwindUser and its password to access Northwind db on my sql server instance.
I am trying to use the Oracle Business Components Browser to test the data thru my application module but it wont connect. ( I have created a connection in JDeveloper 9.0.3 that uses JDBC-ODBC bridge and I can view all the tables just fine through this connection. )
When I right click on the app module and select test, it brings up a uid/pwd box in which i enter my credentials. Once I enter the credentials and hit enter it shows me the browser. There is no indication whether I was connected or not at this point. It shows me the view objects in the left pane but when i double click on one of the views it throws a JBO-25200 application module not connected to the database error.
I have trying various uid/pwd combinations incl. admin. I am running everything locally on a Windows Server 2003 build 3790 release and the sql server instance uses mixed mode auth. I am logged in as the Administrator on my box.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Verizon iphone won't connect to MS exchange server

When I input my information to set up the account via my office Microsoft Exchange Server I get an error message on my phone saying it is unable to connect.
Anyone else have this problem and able to resolve it?

New iPhone 4 Verizon. I had trouble setting up Exchange Server for my work email. Our IT person on Monday morning had me enter my user name with a prefix that I would never had guessed on my own (domain\username)and it's working great since then. In fact, the work email is pushed to the iPhone FASTER than it gets routed to my desktop at work. The phone BINGS to notify me of a new email moments before my desktop does the same. Synchs my Outlook calendar to the iPhone automatically too. So perhaps there is some setting for you that needs to be tweaked when setting it up?

  • Server App won't connect to my MacMini Server on my network via Wi-Fi, what am I doing wrong?

I've been able to connect to my server thru screen sharing with no problems, but when I try to use the Server App via my 13" MacBook Pro via Wi-Fi it just keeps spinning and never connects?  Any ideas?

    @jlisburn
servermgrd is what the Server App communicates with to read/adjust settings.
You could uninstall/reinstall the server app.. that may take care of your issue or is at least worth a try.
Not much of a downside to this, your data and settings are not kept in the app.
When you trash it, the services will shut down. When you replace it (download from app store) it will re-use the same settings and data.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4141719?start=0&tstart=0
of course, make sure your local DNS setup properly forward and reverse.
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
should return positive (matching) results, not a mismatch.
I would also verify your volume with disk utility.

  • Windows Phone newsfeed app won't connect to on-prem server

I'm trying to use the SharePoint Newsfeed app on my shiny new Lumia 920, and no matter what URL I try, I get this:
    Something went wrong
Please check the URL and your internet connection or try again later.
    I have tried https://server.domain.com,
    https://server.domain.com/my,
    https://server.domain.com/my/personal, and
https://server.domain.com/my/personal/username and none of those will connect. The frustrating thing is that the iPhone and iPad apps connect just fine using https://server.domain.com.
Kind of frustrated and search engines produced no help whatsoever, so if anyone has any ideas, I'd be grateful, thanks.

    Hi!
Do you have a UAG (Unified Access Gateway) in you'r network? I haven't tried the Newsfeed app yet, but someone said on a User Group Meeting that you need a UAG to connect from the Windows Phone. From iOS and Android you could connect
    without it.
I also found this article where it sayes:
"If your organization is using SharePoint Server 2013 the server must be configured with basic authentication in order to sign in to the app. Your system administrator can help you with this."

  • Thunderbird won't connect to my smtp server since McAfee update.

McAfee updated and gave problems with Site Advisor. After that if I try to send an email, Thunderbird fails to attach to smtp server and doesn't prompt for password. Eventually times out.
Just minutes before this event it was workig fine.

Disable email scanning in McAfee and see if that helps.
Change scanning from everything to documents and programs and try that
Although neither of these known fixes does anything With McAfee site adviser.
    Contact McAfee for a fix.
Given your posting here using Firefox and Firefox uses Googles safe browsing lists see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-does-phishing-and-malware-protection-work Do you even need a site adviser from McAfee?
Please advise how you get on.

  • Outlook on a remote Win 7 PC won't connect to our exchange server

    Hi,
Since last Wednesday, users at our remote site aren't able to use their Outlook.  When they open Outlook, Outlook keeps asking for a user name and a password.  On the exchange server, there are several entries for EventID 4625.
EventID 4625 has the following failure information, "Failure Reason: An Error occured during Logon.", "Status: 0xc000006d", & "Logon Type: 3".
If one of the PC is brought back to the main office, it would work fine.
I have checked the firewall and opened a lot of ports for testing, but no luck.  The same setup had been working for more than 10 month.  A user first reported the problem on last Wednesday morning.  Can this be cause by the monthly software
    update?
    Thanks.
    Johnnie
    Johnnie

    Hi Johnnie,
Thanks for your question. What's the version of your Outlook client? Could you please share the complete event log with us? We shall take a further look then.
This event (Event ID: 4625) is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.
Since this was first reported on last Wednesday, right after the Patch Tuesday of Microsoft, it could be caused by an installed update. I haven't seen any others reported the same issue, you might want to go ahead to troubleshoot the recently installed
updates and see whether it's caused by a faulty patch.
