OS X 10.5 client and NON-OS X CUPS server: adding printers, solved

Dear all,
I had trouble in adding printers under OS X 10.5, those printers are shared via a FreeBSD CUPS 1.2.10 server on the local network.
So I did the following:
- System Preferences;
- Print & Fax, right click on the leftmost part of the window, then "Reset printing system";
- Open Terminal;
- As admin via sudo or root edit the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file and modify the first lines so they look like:
Browsing On
BrowseOrder allow,deny
BrowseAllow all
BrowseProtocols all
BrowseRemoteProtocols all
BrowsePoll hostnameof_your_cupsserver:631
BrowsePort 631
- Save the file;
- Restart the client;
- Now you should be able to see/add the printers.
This is a quick and dirty fix, hope this helps.

Hi John,
my apologies for having misinterpreted your post. I think that Apple engineers really did a big mistake by omitting the keyword BrowseProtocol="all" in the print engine setup (cupsd.conf), since that keyword basically allows the cups-polld daemon, that is the piece of the local printing engine of OS X that can "ask" the LAN for the presence of printers, to ask for printers shared via CUPS/LDAP/SLP and so on.
I hope that this will be soon fixed in a minor release, since quite a lot of people (especially in the educational/research environments) heavily relies on a centralized CUPS server to manage tens or hundreds of printers (we do have 40+ printers, exported to more 400+ clients, both OS X and Windows).
BTW, this morning I was asking a little joke to my colleagues I said to them "300+ new features, an old one missing.. try to guess which one"

    Ans: All the clients should have LiveCache. Because the data will be fetched from livecache, the database and livecace will be having data sincronized.

    Ans: If you are asking about the number of client then it can be any. If you are asking relevant to other testing and QA then the production server will be different from the other and wich connected to OLTP system and having all the relevant business data.

    Ans: as said above all the clients are livecache relevant only. You can check in the Transaction code LC10
    We have a SCM PROD system with only one working client :001. We should never make it non-livecache-relevant, right?
    Ans: Yes. If livecahe is not installed then SCM system will not work. The data fetch from livecache only.
    When you save any data it stores in Livecache and Database.

  • My Firefox crashes every time I open it and none of the steps in the database solve the problem. My crash signature is PaintFrame(nsIRenderingContext*, nsIFrame*, nsRegion const&, unsigned int, unsigned int)

    I tried opening it in safe mode and none of the other help tips in the database on firefox crashes when I open it apply to me. I also ran a couple of virus programs to check for any infections and found nothing. I had been having issues with java previous to firefox beginning to crash. So I attempted to uninstall java from my computer but it did not help.
    My crash signature is PaintFrame(nsIRenderingContext*, nsIFrame*, nsRegion const&, unsigned int, unsigned int) and a search of this term on Mozilla Support pulled up no results.
    I'm not terribly knowledgeable with programming so any suggestions would help!

    what is different between Database Installation Guide for Microsoft Windows ( non-client i mean that ) and Database Client Installation Guide for Microsoft Windows?
    It's same or not?

    The former discusses creating the database and the listener, the latter doesn't.
    Likely the latter is a very small subset of the former, ie if you install the database on the server, that server implicitly has a client.

    I want to use the XE Client to access a non-XE server. The license agreement states:
    Any use of the Oracle Database Express Edition is subject to the following limitations;
    1. Express Edition is limited to a single instance on any server;
    2. Express Edition may be installed on a multiple CPU server, but may only be executed on one processor in any server;
    3. Express Edition may only be used to support up to 4GB of user data (not including Express Edition system data);
    4. Express Edition may use up to 1 GB RAM of available memory.
    Does that mean that I cannot use the XE Client for accessing a non-XE database?
    Or can I freely distribute the XE Client together with my application?

    Here's the way I'd read it:
    The XE client is freely distributable, but the intentions are that you're using that with the XE-server.
    If your non-XE server is licensed by the processor, I don't think Oracle cares which kind of client you use with it. If your non-XE server is licensed by the named user, you would still need to have licenses for those connections, no matter which client they were using, whether it be XE, Instant, Standard, etc.
    You can't use the XE client to get around named user licensing requirements.
    Was that the intended question, or was it strictly a question about distributing the client with your applications?

    I looked at the ActiveX Event Callback for Excel.vi and the subvi NewWorkbookCallback.vi in detail.
    I have a few questions/observations about it:
    1. The main program appears to open Excel so that LabVIEW is the ActiveX client and Excel is the ActiveX server. Is this correct?
    2. When the user opens a new Excel workbook, LabVIEW fills some cells. Again LabVIEW is the client and Excel is the server. Is this correct?
    I want to create a LabVIEW ActiveX server that receives and displays an array of booleans. Can anyone help me with this?

  • EAP with Windows 2000 client and IAS server

    Several messages on this site point to peole using EAP on a Windows 2000 client and authenticating against an IAS server. I am running an Aironet 350 AP and trying to setup my Windows 2000 clients to use EAP only and authenticate against a Windows 2000 AD forest via IAS. The access point and client are on the latest firmware and drivers (12.0 for AP). I have two basic questions.
    1. It is my understanding that by enabling Network-EAP as the only authenticaiton type that users will authenticate and then dynamic WEP keys will be used, greatly reducing the risks of compromised WEP keys while at the same time keeping the data encrypted.
    2. Does anyone have a quick HOW-TO or point-by-point list of how to configure the Windows 2000 client to authentication using the Network-EAP method? I am currently running into a situation where no matter what I configure on the client, the IAS server reports and error with "Reason: The authentication type is not supported on this system." I also noticed that the "Authentication-Type" and "EAP-Type" fields shown in the IAS messages in the Windows 2000 Event Viewer log have the value "<undetermined>". Has anyone else run into this?

    I'm having a similar problem. I'm trying to do PEAP and it appears that IAS is not handling the request properly. It keeps trying to log the user PEAP-##### in instead of setting up the TLS and then asking for Username, Pass, Domain. The IAS error message I'm getting is:

    I have created a loopback# interface which I would like to be used as the router source interface for the NTP client and/or built-in DNS server so everything originating whithin the router has only one and unique IP address (such as: logging source-interface Loopback#)
    The documentation explains how to create virtual interfaces but I cannot find how to associate them to the mentioned services except logging.

  • CVP - SIP Server Groups and Redundant SIP Proxy (CUPS)

    I am migrating from a CVP 7 + UCCE 7.5 solution which uses srv.xml files on the CVP servers to implement redundancy
    from CVP to the SIP Proxies (which are CUPS based).
    In the new CVP 8.5 + UCCE 8.5 solution, I am trying to set up equivalent redundancy, which
    is now done via Server Groups.
    The solution is geographically diverse, with one CVP server + a CUPS server (publisher) at Site1,
    and the second CVP + CUPS server (subscriber) at site 2.
    Previously (on CVP 7), I was able to configure each CVP server so that its priority was to use the CUPS server at its
    "local" site. Hence there were 2 different srv.xml files, one for each CVP server.
    To configure this in CVP 8.5, I would need 2 SIP Server groups, to give each CVP a group
    configured to prefer the "local" CUPS server. But when I configure a SIP server group(s) pointing to CUPS, I seem to be only able
    to get one single Server Group to work. That single Server Group only works if the server group name
    matches exactly the Domain Name configured in CUPS. Since CUPS' Domain name is a single cluster wide name,
    I can get only one Server Group working, not the two that I need.
    So, where am I going wrong?

    Fairly new to CVP and had a question about how to configure the dialed number patterns so they point to more than 1 CUCM. My environment doesn't have a SIP Proxy or DNS Srv. That said, I tried to create as what was mentioned above - SIP Serve Group with 2 CUCM Subs then have a dialed number pattern point to it. However, when I initiate a call to an ICM script and eventually hit an agent, it flips between ready and reserve. When I change the dialed number pattern to point to a specific CUCM, it works fine. Followed all the aobve recommendations as well. Any idea how to make this work? Hoping I'm just missing something here...

    I have a new MacBook Pro and am having a tough time adding printers.  Whenever I add a printer it says that it can't find the printer software and I should go to the HP or Canon website to get the driver.  However, both of these websites say that Lion should have the drivers or be able to find them automatically.

  • Client Copy between unicode system and non-unicode system

    Hello,
    we have to build up a new system for japan. It is planned to install a new 4.7Ext200 unicode system and then make a client copy from a non-unicode 4.7Ext200 (language= german, english) system to the unicode system. I don't think that this is possible way, but I can't find information regarding client copies from non-unicode to unicode. I would advice the project to convert the existing non-unicode system to unicode, make a system copy for the new system and then install japan languages. Any information, which can help me.

    The issue is resolved. We are working in a sandbox with Class configuration on a DMS issue related to standard class 017. There are no standard settings in SPRO - Cross-Application Components | Maintain Object Types and Class Types | for the object type DRAW that will allow "auto-populating" characteristic values as we do with VC class 300.
    For whatever reason DRAW and class 017 are not configured by SAP in the same manner as class 300 for example.
    We made a config entry for DRAW Class 017 VBAP. Let's just say the system did not like that.
    We are exploring other options.

    Hi Kelvin -
    There is no RMS Client for Macs.  That functionality is actually provided through the Office for Mac application (this is different compared to the PC).  Domain-joined clients will autodiscover the RMS server and should be able to create and consume
    protected content.  Non-domain-joined clients cannot automatically discover their RMS server.  In this scenario, prepare a protected document or email from a domain-joined machine and send it to your non-domain-joined users.  They will open
    the document or email up and the URLs contained in the publishing license of the document will direct them to the correct RMS server.

    make sure you are using the tnsnames.ora file that you ftp from the 10g database server not the one under the 6iHome/network/admin subdirectory. Remember 6i uses Oracle db 8.0.6.3 under the hood and the tnsnames.ora that is located under the 6iHome/network/admin is not compatible with the 9i and higher. Ftp (binary) the tnsnames.ora (and sqlnet.ora) from your db server's /netwok/admin subdirectory to a directory (/var/opt/oracle recommended non unix/linux) and then set TNS_ADMIN on client machine to point to /var/opt/oracle (or the directory you picked). That is all there is to it. As Tony mentioned, the only certified combo (important for production enviroment) is 6i+patchset 17 and higher (18 is the latest) for 10gR2.

    A client of our's uses <b>SAP Enterprise Portal</b>, and is using the SAP SSO, which is implemented with tickets, and requires the use of SAPSECULIB.  My company provides an application for this client, and our application in hosted in our data center for the client, as a Software as a Service application, obviously across the internet.  Our client, which owns a SAP license, has asked that we support the SAP SSO as a non-SAP SSO application.  The client user's SSO ticket will be created from SAP EP, and then passed across the internet to our application, and we are to use that SSO ticket as an authentication ticket to our application.  I beleive I know how to do this work technically, having reviewed the SAP document named: "Dynamic Library for Verifying SSO Tickets in Third-Party Software"   Specification   Version 2.00  December 2005.
    My question is, does my company have the right to use the SAPSECULIB?  Where is the official download and <b>license</b> download, that indicates we can download this library, and use it to support a SAP customer?  We do not own a SAP license.  Thank you for your help.  I have searched many places in SAP support.<b></b>
