OS2 Issues: Browser and Gmail

I just installed the new release of the OS. In Accounts I had no issues to get Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin setup. However, with Gmail it just won't let me, saying that the user name or password are wrong. I have 2-step authentication setup in my Google accounts. Could that be the problem? The device is authenticated, as in I could get it to work via the browser before.
...which brings me to the second problem: The browser just won't load. It opens with everything greyed out, after a few seconds the address bar shows and the browser exits immediately after. I tried rebooting, but no luck. Any idea of what could be wrong?

Good news! I figured out the Gmail issue: If you have 2-step verification enabled for your Gmail accounts, DON'T use your normal password. You will need to use a one-off application specific password...  Instructions here: http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/static.py?hl=en&page=guide.cs&guide=1056283&answer=185833&rd=...
As for the browser issue, I am still stuck. Is there a way to reinstall just the browser?

  • I know this may be a lame question, but can I use Thunderbird with my Chrome browser and gmail account?

I don't presently have firefox browser and have been very comfortable with Chrome for years now; can I use Thunderbird with my Chrome browser? I want to manage a large mailing list for a non-profit group that wants me to use Thunderbird.
    thank you,
    Reuben

If you got someone else email than that's a BIG error and it has nothing to do with whatever client you are using. You send your credentials to gmail and they connected to another account, not even Google would like to do that.
Either you send the wrong credentials and then you happend to have the same password as this other account. Try using webmail on that account.
Change your password!!! If you can access that account he/she can access yours.

  • Mail.app and Gmail POP download problem

I'm in the process of overhauling my entire email world. At the moment, I'm trying ot download all of my Gmail emails into Mail.app using POP. This isn't working well at all.
My Gmail inbox has over 2000 emails and All Mail has over 9000 emails. POP is enabled in Gmail's setting for "all mail", not just "new mail".
But when I go to download everything Mail.app's activity window tells me it's downloading x of 427 messages (and I have WAY more than that in Gmail!). So, what's going on?! Supposedly Gmail downloads in batches, but even if that's true, it's hanging terribly, even while just working with 427 emails.
Does anyone have experience with this? I'm trying to figure out where the problem lies.... on the Gmail side, or the Mail.app side.
    Thanks,
    Scott

Since you do not need the All Mail folder when in Mail, you can select via browser and Gmail setting for POP & IMAP to exclude it entirely.
Do a Google search with Gmail and Advanced IMAP Controls. To enable this particular exclusion, sign on to your Gmail account, click on Settings, then on Labs, and enable advanced IMAP control. Once that is done, you can then click on Labels tab in Settings and make some selections.

  • Mail.app and Gmail Problem

    Hi,
I'm surprised I didn't have better luck in finding the solution to this.
Why is it that when I have a new message in my gmail account, I see "1" in both my Gmail inbox and my mailboxes inbox in the Mail.app apple program?
Can you tell me how to get rid of the gmail folder so that I ONLY have the mailboxes folder?
Right now, when I click my mailboxes inbox --> unread message, it gets rid of the (1) but the (1) still stays on my Gmail --> Inbox.
It is just a nuisance. Thanks.

  • Mail and Gmail issues in Snow Leopard

I've used Gmail with Mail for years, and it has suddenly stopped behaving. Mostly it takes *forever* for a message to be sent, but downloading messages can also take it's sweet time. I have several Gmail address I check, all are doing this. iPad and iPhone both work fine, so the issue seems to be isolated to the laptop.
I'm running Snow Leopard on a MacBookPro from mid-2009.
    Many thanks for help.

Yes.  I'm having a whole series of problems with Mail.app and GMail.  The problems are pretty well documented (links below), but I haven't seen any good fixes or heard any indication that Apple is taking them seriously.
    http://www.maclife.com/article/news/os_x_mavericks’_mailapp_not_playing_nice_gma il
    http://tidbits.com/article/14219
In addition to archived emails returning to the inbox, I'm seeing significant delays in new mail appearing in my inbox:  sometimes as long as hours after the mail appears on my iPhone and in the GMail web console.

  • How do I sync Mail with Outlook and Gmail in browser?

I really like the Mail app in OS X, but I've noticed that it's not synced with the browser version of my email accounts, so anything I do in Mail (e.g. read an email, delete/trash it, etc) is only reflected within the app and not in my browser.
Just in case I didn't explain that properly: For example, if I read an email in Mail, and then switch to my Outlook account in Safari to check if that email has been marked as read, it would still appear as unread. If I delete and trash and email in Mac, that same email appears exactly where it used to be in Outlook, completely untouched.
This bothers me for two reasons. One, even if I were to stick with Mail and not touch my Outlook/Gmail accounts in Safari again, I still wouldn't like the idea of my inbox being all messy if I were ever to log back in. Two, Mail doesn't seem to have any options to create folders and subfolders as far as I'm aware, so my emails which are very neatly organized in Outlook are all lumped together in Mail's inbox. So even though Mail is a neat little app, I still have Outlook and Gmail bookmarked.
I'd like to know if there's a way to sync Mail with my email accounts in-browser, so that any changes I make in the app also show up when I log into my actual accounts? Maybe I'm just missing something or if this is not possible at all, please let me know. Thank you!

You have to set those accounts up as IMAP. Right now you probably have them set up as POP3 accounts.
Pop3 account are one way. You download your mail to your computer and send mail from your computer and it all stays on that particular computer. Imap stores everything on the mail providers server. Incoming and outgoing mail is always on the imap server and can be gotten on multiple devices. All sent mail is store on the server also and can be viewed from multiple devices.
With outlook that might not be possible. Not sure if individual outlook accounts can use imap. I do know that the office365 side can as that is what my company uses and some people are using macs and other email program other then ms outlook.

  • Bridge Browser and WiFi Browser Issues???

    Hey everyone,
I've had my Playbook since day one and I have been having issues that I can't seem to get resolved involving the Brdige Browser and WiFi browser.
On the Bridge Browser I can't browse to any webpages. I simply get a non-descript "Not Authorized HTTP://whatevertheurlwas.com" error message. Ive tried dozens of pages, reset the bridge, to no avail.
The other issue is with the WiFi browser. When I try to login to an Exchange 2010 OWA webmail site, I can't click certain check boxes (they arent grayed out, the clcik just wont function). Also - when I try and navigate to a SharePoint 2010 site I get an "Error - A network error has occured" message. It is accessible fine via an iPad, laptop, and desktop computer but not from the Playbook browser.
    Any ideas??

I spent about 3 hours with Support on this last night.
Explanation makes sense...could not verify it yet.
Bridge Browser by default uses "Blackberry Browser" to surf the net. If this option is disabled by BES Admin (assumption here is that you are on BES), you will not be able to surf the net. If you have BIS services also, your Blackberry  handset (assumption here is that you are on OS v6) tries to open a site through "Blackberry Browser" and then defaults through "Internet Browser"...which is why you are probably surf the net through your handset without any issues.
To verify this, install OS v5 and that gives you the option of picking the browser for your handset. If you get the same message after selecting "BLackberry Browser" on your phone...the above explanation can be confirmed. I am going to try it on my older Blackberry handset with OS v5 over the weekend.
Solution if the above explanation is verified:
Running the web browser in work mode
If the Allow Browser IT policy rule is set to Yes and you configure the BlackBerry® MDS Connection Service to connect a BlackBerry smartphone to the Internet and intranet, a BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet that is connected to the smartphone can run the web browser in work mode.
When the web browser runs in work mode, it does not use the Wi-Fi® connection that it uses when it runs in personal mode. Instead, the web browser can connect to the Internet or your organization's intranet using the smartphone's connection to the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service. The tablet encrypts any cached data that is stored on the tablet using the BlackBerry® Bridge™ work key.
A BlackBerry PlayBook tablet user can access the web browser in work mode by clicking the browser icon in the BlackBerry Bridge panel on the tablet, or by clicking on a link in a work application. When a user clicks a link in any work application, such as a link in work email messages, work calendar entries, the contact list, tasks, memos, or BlackBerry® Messenger messages, the web browser runs in work mode if any of the following conditions exist:•
    No Wi-Fi connection is available•
Web address does not contain periods•
MDS Browser Domains IT policy rule includes the domain of the web address•
Web address consists of a private IP address as specified in RFC 1918•
Value of the Wi-Fi Internet Access Path IT policy rule is set to "Access through BlackBerry MDS Connection Service"
If these conditions do not exist, the web browser runs in personal mode and connects to the Internet using a Wi-Fi connection.
The web browser cannot run in work mode if it cannot access the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service.

  • Browser and email issues with OS 10.9.4

Had a problem that I thought had been solved.  See thread here: Just installed OSX 10.9.4 - have browser and email issues
Now a week or so later, it's back.  Same symptoms.  I have followed the procedure posted by Linc Davis.  Anybody have further ideas?
    Don Hutchins

If you are using Safari, try going to Safari/Preferences/Advanced and set the develop menu to show. Go to the develop menu and select Empty Caches.
If that doesn't work, Safari/Reset Safari/Remove all web site data.
    For Mail, try:
    Do a backup.
    Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail.  Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.
Information learned from Linc Davis. Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Just installed OSX 10.9.4 - have browser and email issues

After updating the OS to X 10.9.4, I am now getting sporadic browser and email issues.
Email will send one message from each account, then locks up and the message is "authentication refused".
Browser will bring up an internet page or sometimes several, then will lock up and no further URLs can be accessed.
Both issues are temporarily solved by rebooting the machine - but recur almost immediately.
I am pulling my hair out.  Any thoughts?
    Don Hutchins

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Mail issue with .Mac account and Gmail

    Hi everyone,
On Friday my email account began to exhibit some weird behavior. Suddenly, out of nowhere and for both accounts (.mac and Gmail), my iPhone stopped getting new email messages from the servers; it said that there are no passwords stored on the server and I should go into Mail settings and put passwords in. This was never an issue before; I checked on things and both passwords are still present. I've done all of the resets and re-synced my iPhone to iTunes but nothing's changed. I can still send messages from both accounts. Can anyone help?
    Thanks!
    Julie

Christoph's instructions translated for the iPhone:
    Go into the Settings app.
    Select (tap) "Mail, Contacts, Calendars".
    Select (tap) your Google account.
    Select (tap) "Account".
Verify that the Name field is your full name, or change it to be your full name.
While there, you might make sure the Description field says something like "Google" or "my Gmail" so it's easy to spot.

  • Browser Issues (Sound and Flash)

    Hello!
Recently, I've had a few issues regarding Firefox on Arch-Linux with FluxBox, using ALSA sound drivers. Here is the problem:
Everything sound related works fine, but after having Firefox (or any browser for that matter) open for a while, eventually any sound played through the browser will stop working. The only sound it emits is a moment of the actual audio, but it just repeats over and over for a few moments. This continues to happen until I kill the browser and restart it. Then, everything works fine.
And another browser related issue I'm having.. When I'm using Pandora or watching flash videos, the UI for the browser-integrated player does not respond. I cannot pause, stop, fastforward, rewind etc.
I wish I knew more about the issue to supply you with more pertinent information. If you need to know anything just ask and I'll get it for you. I would greatly appreciate any advice!
    Thank you.

Hmm, well I did a couple things and the problem has yet to reoccur. I left the browser open all night, played audio from other programs and left the browser open. I can still play videos and audio from Firefox. Here is what I did:
In terminal, I first updated everything:
    pacman -Syu
And then, I installed the 'gstreamer0.10-plugins' package:
    pacman -S gstreamer0.10-plugins
Then I just rebooted and everything seems fine now!
I don't know why the above has appeared to fix this particular issue. I was actually doing it to fix another problem I was having (iPod wasn't playing) and it seemed to fix both. However, the UI of flash videos still won't respond to being paused, fast-forwarded, stopped, etc. for me.
    I hope it helps you.
    Peace!

  • You need to fix the "hangup" issue that firefox has. I close the browser, and 24 hrs later, it's STILL eating up all my processor time.. this IS an issue you need to have fixed.

I dual boot between Win XP Pro x64 and Win 7 Ultimate x64. I also have a 2nd pc running strictly XP Pro 32 bit, and it's the same problem. Close the browser, and everything else takes a long time to load, even the security screen for Win7. then it takes a few minutes for task manager to show up. Seriously, I love the browser any day of the week over Chrome or IE. Fix it. kinda hard to do much when the browser is eating 90%+ of the processor

I greatly appreciate the suggestions and the links.. I honestly looked earlier, but didn't find the ones you posted. My fault there. I have looked at them, and for all intents and purposes, I've already taken the steps they've suggested: disabled all plugins and extensions. Removed/uninstalled all plugins/extensions. Uninstalled and re-installed Firefox, no plugins or extensions.
The problem still occurs. This isn't a problem that just started occurring, but has been relatively consistent in appearing since, v3.1 ( i think? Been going on for quite awhile)
I'll continue to try and find just what is happening, but honestly.. I really do not believe the problem is my system.

  • TS4002 my mailboxes on my Mac are freaking out, I cannot shut them and they just keep the little wheel spinning. I am able to access my Yahoo and Gmail accounts via web browser but the mail system seems to be frozen.

I am having difficulty with my mail function on my MacBook Pro. The mail function is not shutting down and continues to try and access the mail accounts that I have set up in Yahoo and Gmail. Now I am unable to close the application. I forced a close last night when I powered down.
I can access my Gmail and Yahoo through web browsers.

    Hello OP8,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
