Other JAXP Tutorials
I've browsed through the Sun tutorials regarding JAXP and didn't find them much help. I'm trying to find tutorials involving parsing an xml file and then extracting child nodes in variables, etc. (like using XML for a type of config file) Anyone know of any other good JAXP tutorials that might explain this concept?

WebDynpro Problem - Importing Project from tutorials
I am trying to gothru the tutorial Accessing ABAP Functions in Web Dynpro (4).
I have downloaded and unzipped the zip file 4TutWD_FlightList.zip
When I try and Import a project,
It finds the Project TutWD_FlightList_init, I am able to select the project, but then I recieve a error
"Errors importing Projects
Error message: Invalid project description.
I have tried other project tutorials off SDN and get the same error.Luciano,
I have tried the File>Import>Import Project from File System>
I am able to get the project created but none of the other structure is being built. The application,controller, views and window are all missing. I have tried to rebuild the project and I have tried to repair the project. No errors but no project structure either. I was a little confused by your suggestion to extract and then extract again. I have no files in the TutWD_FlightList_init.zip to extract again.
Also in the directory structure I have the files for the project such as...
project --> ProjectProperties.wdproperties
application --> FlightListApp.wdapplication
resultview--> ResultView.wdview , ResultView.wdview.xlf
controllers --> SearchView.wdcontroller
Any other suggestion would be appreciated,

Where can I find java tutorials
At first I found a few java tutorials at kidware.com but their tutorials cost 19.95. So I downloaded the freeware edition tutorial and it gave me four lessons. Now that I have read them all I can't find any other good tutorials for beginners. I tried sell some tutorials to buy it, but it was a bad idea. Please tell me where I could get good tutorials thanks.

I can't watch any of the FCPX tutorials.
I can't watch any of the FCPX tutorials. I don't think it's my computer because I can watch all the other Apple tutorials. I also have Quicktime v 10.0. Any suggestions?
When I try to watch Final Cut Pro X tuorials the screen is blank but the audio is fine. The video blinks on and off very quickly and I lose control of all functions. I have to force quit to get out of it. This only happens with the FCPX tutorials. All other Tutorials from Apple work fine. I think the problem may be Firefox. When I use Safari the tutorials are fine

I have read the tutorial series from Ingo Hilgefort about installation, configurating the BO Edge XI Server and creating a dashboard with XCelsius on top of a SAP BI-query (which are very good for getting started in BO).
I am looking for additional tutorials about other functions of the Business objects software (particularly for Edge XI Server).
Are there other good tutorials about business objects technologies (e.g. BO Data Integrator, or setting up a data warehouse with BO)?

3rd generation iPod Touch not recognized by Mac & iTunes!
My 3rd generation ipod touch is not recognized on iTunes but is recognized when I plug it into a different computer. I've tried reinstalling iTunes numerous times and have referred to other online tutorials. With no success, my iPod will still not show up on my Macbook, and I've never experienced a problem like this before with either device. My mac and itunes still recognize my iPhone so I don't know why they would recognize one device but no the other. Solutions?

If you are updating to iTunes 11.x for the first time, iTunes may hide the sidebar initially, which is where the shuffle appears.
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. In the sidebar, the shuffle should appear under DEVICES. -

Duplicate the copy, and change the blend mode of one copy to lighten, and the other copy to darken. This action demands more selective mask editing, and more user input, but it is 'stepless' - usable on all ISO speeds. This action, which is just a classic median de-noiser with a twitch, is not published yet. The subject of noise is pretty big.. It is also interesting.<br /><br />Sharpen in four steps Try it on another image. You really need different sharping for each image. Examine at 200%. The edge halos in the stepped version is less pronounced. You can use this stepping method on all the classic filters and techniques for a better resampled pixel.<br /><br />I assume that you do not use the Fade filter combined with Luminosity Mode. I used to do that. Now I sharpen a merged layer and put this in Luminosity mode to avoid any color shifted pixels, and to keep everything neat and un-destructed. If I want, I apply an edgemask to this layer.<br /><br />There´s another method I use. This method is called <a href=http://www.astropix.com/HTML/J_DIGIT/USM.HTM><FONT COLOR=ROYALBLUE><U>Real Unsharp Mask</U></FONT></A> (I´ve got it actionized as well). I found at the end that the photo was considerably darker so I duplicated the original untuched layer, selected Screen Mode and lowered the opacity to 70%. The results are good but different from the other (4 Times) method. I can't tell which is better. Both are good. Use a small radius (1-2) and very high threshold (30-60) to just zap those pixels that have gone way out of line. Use a luminosity mask to just let the D&S layer show through in the shadows, otherwise the image will be softened overall. I'm using 4000dpi scans of 35mm film, often fairly grainy film. I have had to tweak the glowing edges and gaussian blur settings from time to time, but in general through trial an error have found a range of values that I like. So, I run the action with my tweaked settings, if I don't like it, I run it with the dialog boxes enabled and adjust more. In general my settings for glowing filters are:<br /><br />Edge Width 3<br />Edge Brightness 8<br />Smoothness 5<br /><br />Then a gaussian blur of 0.9 to 1.1 is run on the lightness channel copy that had the Glowing Edges Filter run on it. Then the channel is loaded as a selection, then deleted.<br /><br />Finally, the glowing edges/blurred selection is Sharpened at about 180 with a radius of 2.1 and threshold of 0.<br /><br />After this is done, of course, it's just clean up with the lightness channel deleted and converted back to RGB mode.<br /><br />RE" One more thing: I assume you use this Lightness Channel Copy just as a means of loading the edges for the final step of running unsharp mask on the original channel, followed by deletion of this channel copy. I have found that by doing it this way, I experience little or no color shift as compared to most USM techniques.<br /><br />It is fair to point out the following. Most of my images have moire patterns - it's the nature of my work. So prior to running the sharpening procedure, the images are heavily blurred using gaussian blur (heavily =1.1 - 1.3). This can then be blurred slightly and Levels adjusted. Duplicate the base layer and run unsharp mask to taste on the duplicate. You can separate them thus:<br /><br />Duplicate the layer and USM the copy (you can go slightly harder than normal). Duplicate the copy, and change the blend mode of one copy to lighten, and the other copy to darken. This action demands more selective mask editing, and more user input, but it is 'stepless' - usable on all ISO speeds. This action, which is just a classic median de-noiser with a twitch, is not published yet. The subject of noise is pretty big.. It is also interesting.<br /><br />Sharpen in four steps Try it on another image. You really need different sharping for each image. Examine at 200%. The edge halos in the stepped version is less pronounced. You can use this stepping method on all the classic filters and techniques for a better resampled pixel.<br /><br />I assume that you do not use the Fade filter combined with Luminosity Mode. I used to do that. Now I sharpen a merged layer and put this in Luminosity mode to avoid any color shifted pixels, and to keep everything neat and un-destructed. If I want, I apply an edgemask to this layer.<br /><br />There´s another method I use. I'm using 4000dpi scans of 35mm film, often fairly grainy film. I have found that by doing it this way, I experience little or no color shift as compared to most USM techniques.<br /><br />It is fair to point out the following. Most of my images have moire patterns - it's the nature of my work. So prior to running the sharpening procedure, the images are heavily blurred using gaussian blur (heavily =1.1 - 1.3). HOW TO CREATE A KEYWORD SEARCH FORM
Hi, I'm creating a image gallery and I'm about 90% complete. One of my final objectives is to create a keyword search for my image gallery. I have 4 fields in my DB, (id,image,description,keywords) I want to be able to enter keywords into the text field and the images with there descriptions show up. I already have the keywords in my mysql, I already know how to use mysql, I just need to learn how to add a search form that pulls keywords from my mysql. THIS DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY CODE so please do not respond with code. I just need a step by step on what type of form to insert, (dynamic text field or text field) what paramaters to pass etc. NO CODE, this whole thing can be done in design veiw.
For this project I'm using Dreamweaver Cs5, I'm not really an experienced coder I rely heavily on dreamweaver for my code, I just make minor tweaks. So if anyone has an answer to my problem please break down and simplify your answer I'm still a beginner. Thanks in advance.

When I view my search page in firefox and type in a keyword in the text field, when the results page loads all I get is the field names of DB table (id,layouts,desription,key_words) instead of the actual data...??
On my search page in the action box I have my results page "search_results.php". In the method box I have "GET". On my "search_ruselts.php" page I created a recordset, selected all columns, and filtered "key_words". (im not sure if I filtered correctly) I placed this in a dynamic table. Where did I go wrong?

Differences between the actual finished logo and the one in the tutorial
Hi! I recently got Adobe Illustrator CC and started using it, but I have a few problems.
I pretty much watched the whole tutorial wanting to find out how to make the dotted line box inside the orange shape at the center. It was never shown, so I do want to know how to make that.
Also, the pictured logo has some messy stripes thing in the back shield symbol, which has normal stripes in Illustrator and in the tutorial. Does anyone know how to make that messy, artisticky effect?

We have a video tutorial in the Illustrator Learn show on the Creative Cloud that walks you through creating dotted lines and dashed strokes. It's titled Creating dashed strokes, and it's located in the Fundamentals section under Creating artwork.
Once you've mastered this, experiement with using some of the techniques and effects shown in the video, "Spicing up your design with effects," in the How to design a logo with Illustrator tutorial project that you just completed.
When you're ready, you can move on to watching other video tutorials under these headings in the Fundamentals section: Creating artwork and Brushes.

Swf files do not load correctly anymore...
I maintain a site with many online tutorials (www.edutorials.gr) that i record with various desktop recording software and export them in swf format. The last few months some of these tutorials do not load correctly, and freeze after few seconds.
These swf tutorials originally played ok (Few months ago)
The other swf tutorials continue to play ok
I used the same software for recording and exporting in swf format most of the tutorials for the site
I have tried to open the problematic swf files with various browsers and flash players (both on line and locally in my pc) and they always behave the same

Toplink app works without oc4j,fails with security excp. in oc4j[SOLVED]

I'm new to JDeveloper and I'm working on SRDemo application from online ADF tutorial under JDeveloper. After 6th chapter I tried to run the app with embedded oc4j. After a login to app i got a toplink exception caused by a security exception. I've tried toplink part of the application with a standalone client it works without this strange problem. Also other toplink tutorials that i have work without oc4j.

This happens when i run toplink project inside oc4j, with a normal java client outside oc4j it works.
The strange thing is the root cause of the problem (the exception complaining about signer) . If the root cause of this problem was really correct system wide, neither security code samples nor the standalone client that i tried would have worked.
Only similiar issue I've found on the net is a problem that occured under eclipse due to a bug in previous versions of jce, but it seems this is no longer an issue.
No one other than me seems to have this problem, so this implies a problem with my system, but the root exception about signer information (which is not correct) says there is something wrong with toplink/oc4j runtime or there is some subtle bug.
I am trying to download another jdk1.5 version to see if this is a subtle bug of java-1.5.0.04 and oc4j, but either sun servers or my isp has a problem because the download is in the order of bytes and fails all the time.
I think there can be a problem with the java2.policy file under oc4j config dir, but i don't know if it is really used and necessary or not.
I don't know much about oc4j config so i need some help to proceed. thanks in advance

when i use standalone oc4j using start_oc4j.bat under jdev/bin, I also get the same security exception stack (nothing deployed to server) during server initialization. the default java command in start_oc4j.bat is this:

NIO Help - Dividing clients on different threads
Introduction:
I'm currently working on a free time project witch basically accepts connections.
As we know with NIO, you can use one thread to listen to many different connections using Selector.
I've followed this guide on how to make a non-blocking server + client (Rox Java NIO Tutorial).
Problem:
My problem is that when accepting connections on a Selector, it is directly assigned to the selector instead of being
able to put it into a selector by myself.
What I want to accomplish is lets say I have 100 clients connected, and I want to split them all up into 10 clients per thread.
So 1 Selector, 10 clients. But reading the NIO documentation on Java, I have to say it's rather vague on both functions within
the NIO API, and how it works.

Best way to deal with photos from the start? (Bridge CS5 and iPhoto)
Hi all,
I'm just learning the ropes of the whole CS5 suite, and was starting to add keywords etc. in Bridge when I realized I couldn't access the files in my iPhoto ('09) library. I've read a few threads about this issue, but haven't really found a consensus on how to deal with it.
I figure I'm in a good position to get things right from the start since I have no tags or ratings etc. in my iPhoto setup (and have only added keywords to the few pics that weren't in my iPhoto Library), and am wondering what you think is the best way to sort photos given I plan on using them in web design etc., and all the parts of my CS5 suite.
If getting the photos out of iPhoto is best what's the best way to do that? I've read suggestions to right click on the library and click on "Show Contents"- or something like that, but that does not come up as an option when I right click my iPhoto Library in Bridge. Thanks so much for your help!

MaraI must be far too lazy to be sure. In iPhoto if I want to move an image all I
do is click and drag from iPhoto to the desktop.
Here comes the trouble with using iPhoto and mixing applications. You have
to be sure what you do in iPhoto because you easily grab the wrong version
instead of the original.
As Tai Lao pointed out the the difference between Bridge and iPhoto in short
is open visible structure for Bridge and hidden invisible library for
iPhoto.
There may be perfect and valid reason to use iPhoto but mixing the two
workflows without thinking or knowing what you do is bound to get you sooner
or later in trouble with wrong versions of the file.
And clicking and dragging from iPhoto is easy to mistake in those versions.
1 - I used to create incredible folder/sub-folder arrangements depending upon
operating system file management to find files.
You can create whatever structure you want including a thought through
naming convention that suites your needs, if you keep doing this in Bridge
you can easily open and close folders using the folder panel, in iPhoto you
have a lot of events and albums but none as clear as in Bridge. (at least
that is my opinion...)
Also I would prefer to use a good naming convention with less folders and
subfolders instead of bad file naming and many well named folders. Also
using the metadata options description and keywords let's you easily find
the files you want but when having the need to retrieve the original from an
external disk or DVD using less folders will be quicker to find.
Since depending upon metadata keywords or star ratings I now prefer to have
all images (originals and amended) in one single folder as Bridge (or iPhoto
for that matter) can only see the images in the folder it is looking at.
Wrong, using the find option (cmd+F) you can specify Bridge to look in main
folders or entire disk, include the option to look in subfolders and you are
in business (but the first time Bridge caches it also need to index all the
metadata, that takes some time but only the first time.
2 - potential feature request for Bridge?
To have an option where Bridge can see and display images in subfolder
arrangements from the folder it is looking at.
That is already there since a view versions
Select a folder with subfolders and then from the menu view select 'show
items for subfolders'
It is still not a perfect way of functioning but it gets better every new
version, in CS5 the speed of gathering the files is very much improved.
However here is iPhoto the winner because it keeps the files in cache (or
something like that) Bridge is not the best in this behavior but it is
possible to use.
This is a bit like a restriction of OS X "All images" to all images in the
selected folder and all subfolders of the selected folder (if that makes any
sense at all)
Many users have tons of files on there system, why would you use that option
to view all if you are perfectly capable of finding the files or file types
you want in most applications (but you can also find them in OSX, you want
psd files do a search for ".psd" and you will see all the psd files on your
system.
3 - iPhoto can't really handle large files. With one event consisting of
4,500+ images weighing in at 884 MB it is zippy. Were those to be originals
at a high resolution iPhoto would probably be tediously slow and require a
folder/sub-folder arrangement which, to me, seems to undermine the importance
of managing stuff using keywords.
IPhoto is not designed to be a professional application, therefore you can't
expect behavior for this
In Bridge you have no limit of files on your system only the limit for the
cache is somewhere around 500.000 I believe. But even Bridge is not really
designed for handling that amount of files in a pleasant way.
I also don't know of an application that can do so for normal retail prices,
most users of that amount of files have custom made or customized
application that costs many thousands dollars. Bridge is in fact a free gift
when buying a Suite application from Adobe.
The file size for viewing in Bridge is by default set to a max of 1 GB but
that is for building previews you can see thumbs and small previews of
bigger files. In the Bridge preferences you can set the limit for this to
whatever you want, it only grows the cache file for previews when using many
large files.
In summary: Bridge is great for CS5 partnering on metadata, original images or
large filesizes.

still if those files are low res with small filesizes?

You can do all of this using Bridge to start own created actions or with
scripts like image processor.
Do some research on Adobe TV or view other video tutorials on the web, there
are many free and good tutorials. You will learn that you can do all you
want in Bridge (and a lot more...) -

Aperyure contact sheets are printed blurry
