Other wireless adapters besides airport?

My brother's sawtooth G4 doesn't have an airport and I happen to have a D-Link DWL-520 wireless PCI adapter. Is there a driver or emulator I could use to get it to work on the sawtooth?

The best way is probably to buy an appropriate AirPort card.
You may have some luck finding a Mac driver for the DWL-520 via a Google search, but do not expect (for example) WPA security to be supported.
Alternatively, you could try a wireless Ethernet bridge (such as Belkin F5D7330, D-Link DWL-G810, D-Link DWL-G820, Linksys WET54G, Linksys WGA600N and Netgear WGE111), which does not require special drivers. WPA may or may not be supported (sometimes depending upon the hardware version). A firmware update may or may not be sufficient for WPA.

  • Can I use powerline wireless adapters with airport extreme

can I use power line wireless adapters with airport extreme?

    Can this work?
    Yes
I read somewhere that powerline adapters are not compatible with Airport.
    That information is not correct.
If the AirPort Extreme is already set up as your "main" router, you would connect a short Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Extreme to the power line adapter.
Locate another adapter in the area where you want to use the AirPort Express and connect a short Ethernet cable from the adapter to the Express.
Configure the Express to "create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name, same security settings and and same password as the AirPort Extreme network and select the Bridge Mode setting for the Express so that it work correctly on the network.

  • Wifi besides AirPort for iPad?

Are there other wifi devices besides AirPort that will work to connect hotel room wired internet to iPad? I have an iPad 1st generation and will be trying to use it in hotels in Japan that mostly have wired only in the rooms. Is thereanything that folks love or hate? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply - we actually managed to solve it by removing some extra devices from using Wifi, so it seems like It was an update to the firmware (as you thought)  which limited the number of devices on wifi at once. Thank you though!

  • ATV stream wirelessly w/o any other additional gadgets but Airport Extreme?

Hey, I am sure this is probably a stupid question and may have been answered, but I just want to clarify that since I have APPLE EXTREME streaming wirelessly that it will stream to Apple TV without any other additional adapters, etc?? I ask because I own WDTVLIVE and while I enjoy that it plays almost every format, I am having a heck of a time trying to get it to stream wirelessly. I've bought several USB wireless adapters "claimed" to be compatible, but they didn't work. In any event, I am thinking about just purchasing ATV since a working adapter could cost just as much (if I ever find one that works??) if I can get a confirmation that it connects wirelessly as my IPOD, IPHONE, LAPTOP does through my Airport Extreme?? I am correct to assume that it's just a matter of plugging in the device and it should detect my Airport Extreme without any other additional Wireless gadgets??
Thanks in advance for whomever answers.

How do you know this if the new Apple TV has not even shipped yet? I was wondering the same thing. I currently stream iTunes media library through Airport Extreme w/Hard drive. If this is true then that would be amazing. I might buy 3 of them for different rooms of my house.

  • What wireless adapters are compatible with Airport Extreme?

What third party wireless adapters are compatible with Airport Extreme?

I would suggest checking out some of the wireless USB adapters provided by Other World Computing (OWC). They have a number of models to choose from. The link is to just one of their offerings.

  • Connect to Internet Without Airport Base Station or Other Wireless Router

I have an iMac G5 w/Airport Extreme card, an eMac w/Airport card (not Extreme), and an iBook w/Airport card (not extreme). The iMac is connected to the internet via DSL (direct Ethernet connection - no router). I can succesfully network all three computers for file sharing but can not connect to the internet over the network using the eMac or the iBook. Is it even possible to use the iMac as a wireless base station for the other two computers or do I have to buy a wireless router or Airport Base Station?
    Thanks.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   eMac 10.3.9, iBook 10.3.9

no1bass, Welcome to the discussion area!
The best solution is to get an inexpensive wireless base station.
However, you can use the iMac to share the Internet connection. Go to the iMac's Sharing preference pane and enable Internet Sharing. If you have the iMac's firewall enabled, you will need to also enable Web Sharing or otherwise configure the firewall to open the correct ports.

  • Mac OS X Server - Airport or other wireless hub

I want to set up this network topology,
Cable Modem->Mac OS X Server->Switch->Airport Extreme (or other wireless hub like a d-link or linksys)
so that the server is acting as DHCP server, firewall etc. and the wireless hub is just allowing for wireless service (i.e. I don't need any of the routing or firewall services from the wireless hub). Can I do this? How do I set it up? Is the Airport Extreme capable of doing this? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Ok, so I have the Airport set up, connected via ethernet and pulling it's IP via DHCP. It's pulling that IP address fine from the OS X server. It's also broadcasting it's wireless signal just fine which my laptops can see. NAT is enabled on the server as well. But, the laptops can't seem to pull an IP address through the bridge (the airport) from the server's DHCP server.
    Please help.

  • Airport to other wireless

Can someone give me some input to how to configure my airport to connect to another wireless device that delivers my internet ?? I have a router connected to home PC and printer which gives a wireless signal as well and allows me to print wirelessly as well. I want to hook up some speakers to my airport and have the airport and other router connected such that I can get my internet signal from the router and send that signal or other music signal to the airport at the same time ????
    Thanks

If your other wireless router is not an AirPort, then you will not be able to extend it wirelessly, as most are not WDS-compatible with the AirPorts. On the other hand, if you just want to use the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to stream iTunes and/or share an USB printer, then you only need to reconfigure it for "Client Mode."

  • HT5022 I'm trying to add a "new client" to my wireless network using Airport Utility, but I can't find that option in the new version.  I've downloaded all available updates of the OS and the utility..  Help!

I'm trying to add my HP wireless printer as a "new client" to my wireless network using Airport Utility, but I can't find that option in the new version.  I've downloaded all available updates of the OS and the utility..  Help!

Why would you need to ADD a new Client. Unless the APE sytem is completely different then any other Wireless router the printer should get an IP address from the router. That is IF the printer is setup to get an IP from the LAN DHCP server.
Now you may want to make that IP it does get a Staticly assign IP address so it never changes, which will screw up printing if it does change. But i don't know if you can do that with APE routers.

  • Connect a PC to My existing Wireless Network Using Airport Extreme

this is my issue i bought a Airport Express to connect a PC via ethernet to my wireless network already working at home. Cant figure out the settings???? need help. My home network is using a airport extreme base station. the problem is the PC doesn't have wireless capability so i connected the PC to the airport extreme in order to connect to the network, but no luck so far.

Hello Sailor25. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
What you need to do is configure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a ProxySTA.
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility. The feature should work with any wireless network: a, b, g, or n; and 5GHz or 2.4GHz. (Note that the Express, which ships with firmware 7.3, must also be updated to firmware 7.3.1 for this feature to appear.)

I'm trying to setup a printer go wireless through my airport extreme, but every time I try to print the printing file gets paused. I'm in loop. PLEASE HELP! (The printer is a Brother 7020  monochrome)

I had the exact same problem
It turns out I was using a 20 foot USB cable between the printer and the Airport Extreme and the signal had become to weak to work. Try using nothing more than a 6 foot cable or try a new cable

  • 2WIRE Interfering with my wireless connection through Airport hub

I live in a condo in the downtown area. I use cox communication as my internet provider. Because this is a condo located around other condos my wireless connection stops as soon as someone turns on their 2WIRE wireless router. In fact, even if I use a linksys or a Netgear wireless router, 2WIRE interferes or steps all over my wireless signal. Has anyone been experiencing this problem? In other words, how does one stop other wireless routers from stepping all over my signal - Airport Extreme or any other type of wireless router.

Try configuring your base station to use another channel until you find a channel that works or you run out of channels.
