Out-of-memory workaround

I've been reading past posts on the infamous "out of memory" error in Final Cut Express HD (3.0). I've been running into it myself repeatedly and, like so many others, have a deadline to make.
I captured about two hours of video in fifteen clips ranging in size from 2 minutes each to 12 minutes each. The clips were filmed in NTSC letterbox, and I wanted to try making them HD. So I set up my project for HD and then using "scale" fit each clip to the screen size. So far so good.
I selected "Render All" and waited about two hours. FC process all the video beautifully. About 30 minutes into the audio render, I got an error that I had run out of disk space. (I capture to a second 120gb internal drive). I had that rude awakening about HD: it eats up tons of storage.
So I cleared up some files I didn't need on the hard drive and began re-rendering. This time about 20 minutes into the audio rendering I got the "out of memory" error. With just that project on my capture drive, I had 56gb left. I tried to save my project where it was, but I got the spinning beach ball and had to force quit. I tried again a few more times, but with the same result. For the heck of it, I checked my memory usage with iStat. When FC was open, it showed I had just a few megs of memory left! When I shut down FC, I had about 3gb. (Could FC have a memory leak?)
So here was my workaround: I selected just one clip at a time and rendered each individually, saving as I progressed. After about three clips, when I saved I got the out of memory error and had to force quit FC again. I only lost the render from the last clip, so I re-rendered it and moved on. I did about five more clips, then upon saving got the "out of memory" error again. So I restarted FC again and kept going. (Incidentally, if I tried to "save as..." FC would lock up with the spinning beach ball.)
This is supposed to be Apple's workhorse video editing software. One post mentioned that FC can't handle more than 2gb of RAM, but that strikes me as ludicrous. Are there any other suggestions as to what might be going on?

You're correct -- my 120gb drive became completely filled up. I finally got the entire thing rendered and placed chapter markers in it. But then I had nowhere to export it. I just ordered myself a 500gb drive; that should help for future projects.
What I've discovered meanwhile is that iMovie does a pretty good job of scaling SD to HD. All I had to do was start an iMovie project in HD format and import my widescreen NTSC footage. And it seems to use less hard drive space.
Thanks for the suggestion about converters. I'll look them up.

Trying to open a vcf file (vCard) from a user. After double-clicking file, get message:
Cannot open file: C:\folder\filename.vcf. The file may not exist, you may not have permission to open it, or it may be open in another program. Right-click the folder that contains

I turn OFF cached exchange mode. I double-click the vcf file, it opens fine.
I turn ON cached exchange mode. I double-click the vcf file, I get the erorr message again.
We have hosted Exchange, so we can't turn off cached exchange mode in Outlook.
Is this a bug? Anybody know of a fix?
By the way, if I save one of my contact as a vcf file
and double-click it, it opens fine.

Hash Table Infrastructure ran out of memory Issue

I am getting ORA-32690 : Hash Table Infrastructure ran out of memory error, while executing an Informatica mapping using Oracle Database ( Test Environment)

From the brief description, it sounds like bug 6471770. See Metalink for details. The workaround for this particular bug is to either disable hash group-by, by setting +"_gby_hash_aggregation_enabled"+ to FALSE (using an ALTER SESSION statement . Or by using a NO_USE_HASH_AGGREGATION hint.

Uploading large files from applet to servlet throws out of memory error

I have a java applet that needs to upload files from a client machine
to a web server using a servlet. the problem i am having is that in
the current scheme, files larger than 17-20MB throw an out of memory
error. is there any way we can get around this problem? i will post
the client and server side code for reference.

OK - the problem you describe is definitely what's giving you grief.
The workaround is to use a socket connection and send your own request headers, with the content length filled in. You may have to multi-part mime encode the stream on its way out as well (I'm not about that...).

I get the out of Memory Error on the client side. I
was told that this might be a bug in the URLConnection
class implementation that basically it wont know the
content length until all the data has been written to
the output stream, so it uses an in memory buffer to
store the data which basically causes memory issues..
do you think there might be a workaround of any kind..
or maybe a way that the buffer might be flushed after
a certain size of file has been uploaded.. ?? do you
have any ideas?

JavaScript Out of Memory Error on Portal timeout.

Hello All,
I am using jsf and Inline navigation in all our portlets and when user leave the browser idle for portal timeout we have 2 problems. 1: Login portlet shows in that specific portlet. 2: we get a javascript alert saying out of memory at line 40. and the porltet shows error message as "Gateway was not able to access requested content. If the error persists, contact your portal Administrator."
We are using Plumtree 5.0.4 Java version.

Both are valid behaviors unfortunately.
1) login portlet is showing up in specific portlet b/c inline navigation allows for you to create and load pages without affecting the overall portal.
This happens when you use iframes (which behave in a similar fashion).
- your only workaround is really to write some javascript function to "listen" to the portal login page getting loaded and then throwing the session into the parent browser (which is Portal). At least this is the only solution that I ever came up with when using Iframes.
2) Don't know about out of memory error actually, but getting the "gatewy was not able to access requested content" is valid b/c the session died.
- javascript errors require javascript solutions. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful than that.
Maybe someone else will have better suggestions.
The other suggestion is to use your app server to listen to the logout event and redirect appropriately to somewhere else, or have it do what you want it to do in situations as this.

Out of Memory Error when Saving SequenceFile generated using API

I am currently developing an application that creates a SequenceFile using .NET 4.0, C# (2010), Windows 7 Pro x64, Dual Core 2.5 GHz, 3.0Gb Memory. Using the API EngineClass, I create a complete SequenceFile based on user/file inputs and then save it to disk. When I'm done, I save using SequenceFile.Save() and then release using ReleaseSequenceFileEx().
For smaller files, there is no problem. For larger files, I sporadically get the following error:
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0xFFFFBD98): Out of memory.
When the file does save, it is ~2.8Mb. Breaking the file up is not an option. I am not looping, this is one shot. I've tried shutting down VS2010 and restarting the computer. It is still inconsistent on saving.
I also had to set the Embed Interop Types to False per guidance from NI. They said that it is unstable in 4.0.
Questions
1. Is there a file limit size to the Save() API function?
2. Is there a workaround to using the Save()?

Out of Memory Error when transcoding

I am using winXP and Encore CS3. I don't have anything else open. My project is complete, but I cannot burn to DVD because I get this Out of Memory error, save and close to avoid loss. I am trying to transcode the audio track for the DVD. I've made 3 different projects. On one of the projects, I just downloaded, it did transcode. All of my menu work is in another program. Is there a way to get this one transcoded file over to the other project. Then I could be finished and burn. I don't understand why this one transcode will not work. the other music I brought in as assets for the menu and submenu transcoded fine. Sometime it will say 'transcode preset error'. I went all the way back to Premiere and changed setting there in hopes. can anyone help please

Out of Memory message box

I am using CS Indesign 5.5 and have recently loaded 6.0. Having used Indesign for nearly 10 years I have never had the Out of Memory message pop up and have no idea why this is now doing so. I am using the PC version with Windows. I cannot get rid of the Out of Memory pop up but also cannot continue with that design. Is it anything to do with the fact that I am running 2 indesign products at the same time. Any help would be appreciated as I am starting to get a little bit annoyed.

Out of Memory Error in TOAD....

Hi Guys,
I am trying to export my result set in TOAD to a .CSV format(on my local drive). The export goes well till a certain point but then after say like exporting 1.8 million rows it throws the error: "TOAD out of memory". Please suggest a workaround for this.
Is there any better way of exporting 3-4 million rows of data to a .csv file.

ORA-27102 Out of Memory Error

Hi, I am installing Oracle 11g 64 bit in my server which is having windows server 2008 R2, and 64GB RAM. The software is installed successfully but while database creation it hangs at 2% progress copying database files. At this moment the full 64 GB memory gets consumed by Oracle installer and out of memory error flashed.
Also i got some memory error report on oracle website as follows, but I am unable to find how to solve this problem
*5.2.4 ORA-27102 Out of Memory Error*
When creating a database on a computer with large physical memory, Oracle Universal Installer or Database Configuration may display an out of memory error.
Workaround:
Select the Advanced Installation type during installation, or run Database Configuration Assistant after a software only installation and reduce the memory allocated for Oracle based on the shared memory settings for your operating system.
This issue is tracked with Oracle bug 9811726.
Please help me.

Out of Memory error sure looks familiar!

I have a 1:42:00 video in AVI form (captred in PP2 and then output as a movie). I opened it up in Encore 2, made a timeline, it played find so then I started chugging away at transcoding the 19 gig file into a 2 hr mode DVD. About halfway through the transcoding, I got the old familiar erorr from Encore saying it was out of memory.
The whole idea of transcoding the AVI was so Encore could see up front what it had to work with and automatically pick the compression that would allow it to fit on a 4.7 gig disk.
It seems to say that as it was telling me in the build box that it would be writing to 4.7 gigs or I'm assuming it was saying it would fill all the space it had available and would compress accordingly.
Well, we had these same errors often in the old software and I'm sorry to seem them again. Does anyone know a workaround for this?
My system is an "approved" HP W-8200 with Dual P4 3.6 Xeons and 4 gigs of ram writing to a 1 terabyte sata raid 5. I don't think my machine ran out of memory.

Try eliminating the <include logicalentitytype = "OrganizationalUnit".../> from the extract class. If you haven't changed any information about the OU, you shouldn't need it; the <reference .../> takes care of the relationship between the person and his/her OUs.

Out of memory when reading USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA

Hi,
I'm running a plsql procedure from sqldeveloper against a Oracle10g (Spatial) server.
The procedure mainly performs a SDO_NN search.
I was expecting the procedure processing time to be about 48h (due to the huge tables involved)
But I always get this same kind of errors, breaking the process when six hours elapsed :
ORA-29902: error in executing ODCIIndexStart() routine
ORA-13203: failed to read USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA view
ORA-13203: failed to read USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA view
ORA-29400: data cartridge error
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 16396 bytes. (QERHJ hash-joi,QERHJ Bit vector)
extending memory could be a workaround
but it wouldn't explain why the read of USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA always causes the "out of memory".

It is more likely that some rogue process caused you to run out of memory and the next thing that was supposed to happen was a read of USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA. This read failed as there was no memory left for the query to perform.
So the failed read of USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA is the symptom rather than the cause.
A few general points:
- What exact version of the 10g are you on? There were several memory related bugs fixed over the life of 10g. Ensure you are on the very latest patchset before spending any more time on this.
- Try to ensure your data is valid. i.e. it passes SDO_GEOM.VALIDATE_LAYER_WITH_CONTEXT(). If you've a very big table, then it could be tricky to get all the data valid, but be aware that invalid data can lead to all sorts of problems including memory leaks.
- Follow the general guidelines for ORA-04030 errors. In particular, ensure you have a sensible PGA_AGREGATE_TARGET value.
Following that, I'd recommend posting the key parts of your pl/sql procedure here in case you're doing something in the code that is causing this error.

InDesign CS4 locks up with "out of memory" dialogue

I'm running Windows 7 on a new computer with beaucoup RAM and memory . . . no way in the world we're out of space here. This window pops up and even if I click "ok" it keeps returning and I have to end the program through the task manager to get out of it. What's going on here? This is a new issue; I've been running inDesign on this system for several months with several huge files in production at once and many other programs in the background (like Photoshop and Access, etc.) and havehad no difficulties.
The only thing that is new is that I've installed a new WD external hard drive to run backups, and my old Lacie external is now mounted internally as a slave. These changes should not be affecting inDesign . . . should they?
What's going on?

The problem you are experiencing unfortunately has nothing to do with the amount of physical memory in your system, its hardware configuration, or the OS version you are running. You could be running Windows 7 64-bit with 24GB of memory and the same problem will occur.
The out of memory message typically means that some internal tables within InDesign's own memory space and/or that of its Adobe Core Technology components have reached capacity. You are much more likely to see this message if you are editing very long and/or graphically complex documents and page through the entire document and/or do many edits without saving the document (use "save as" to be safe), exiting InDesign, and then restarting InDesign and continuing editing of the document in question. Exiting and restarting InDesign clears the memory problem. FWIW, I've seen this problem the most when attempting to export PDF from some long, complex documents. My workaround is to save the document, exit InDesign, restart InDesign, open the document and without paging through any of the document (other than the currently displayed page, obviously), immediately initiating the PDF export process.

Out of Memory error after upgrading to Reader X

We have several PDF documents that work fine on Reader 9. But after upgrading to Reader X, the files will not open. Instead, they report an Out Of Memory error and a blank document opens instead. Removing Reader X and re-installing Reader 9 corrects the issue. This has been reproduced on 3 different PCs running both Windows XP and Windows 7.
Any suggestions?

Just to throw in my 2 cents... Adobe has known about the out of memory bug at least since 01/12/2011 because that is when I reported the problem to them. I even had an escalated support case #181995624 and bug#2800823. Our problem comes from a EFI Fiery E7000 attached to our Lanier LD460c Copier. Any pdf's made from that copier will not open in Acrobat X, although they will open in lower versions of Acrobat just fine. Our only workaround is to keep Acrrobat 9 on office computers, or you can open the offending pdf in Acrobat 9 or earlier and print it to pdf, and then it will open in Acrobat X!!! They acknowledged that this was a bug, see my email chain below. This was the last update I received from Adobe, very frustrating...

The EFI Fiery E-7000 Controller version is 1.2.0 and it handles the scanning and printing functionality of our Lanier LD160c copier. I have attached two sample files. One is a 1 page scan from our copier. The other is a combined pdf that I just created in Acrobat 9. The first two pages of the combined pdf consists of a webpage that I printed using Acrobat 9 and then the scan from the copier is on the 3rd page. In Acrobat X, once you get to the 3rd page you will receive the Out of Memory error. It will open in previous versions of Acrobat just fine though.

It is a walk up copier and we scan to email. The EFI Fiery controller E7000 handles pdf conversion for the copier, but yes it has the latest firmware. The bottom line is that we have 3 or 4 years worth of pdfs created from that copier rendered useless by Acrobat X. They open fine in previous versions of Acrobat. Did you get the test pdf file when this case was created?

Out of memory error with 80Kb file?

Hi, my pc has 2Gb of Ram, a page file that is setup correctly
and the physical ram is almost non-used (500Mb)
When I start DW and load a php file of 80Kb approx., it just
hangs/locks up. When I wait for it, it gives me an "out of memory"
error, and when you look in windows task manager, it just keeps
hogging up ram.
My laptop is a "simple", 1Gb Hp pavillion, and when I open
the file there, it just works like it's supposed to, using about
70Mb of ram, instead of the gigabyte(s) it does on my developer
machine....
Adjusting virtual memory has absolutely no effect.. It seems,
after some reading, that people using 2gb of ram, have the most
problems in this area?

EDIT: i just tested another file, 136Kb large, that loads
normal!, so it has to do with the files in specific... If you want
to test the files, just download "Simplemachines Forum" and load
the "load.php" or the "post.php" files from the source directory,
to trigger the lockup...

Installed a virtual machine (xp) with less than 2gigs, and it
works... I really hope someone else has got these kind of errors
yet.... 2500$ + software, wich I can't use for now... Using
notepad2 for time being...
