Out of the box initial setup locked up - how to re-run it?

Unboxed our iMac 27" yesterday and as it was going through the first time setup, when it asked to take a picture to associate it with the user account I created, both buttons were grey-ed out and couldn't take a picture either.  I let the computer sit for a good 15 minutes in case it might recover, but it didn't.  I held the power button in long enough for it to power off and to my suprise, the setup didn't pick up where it left off or resume.
Since I had already created a user, I could log in and it seems that all is well.  Should I bother attempting to re-run setup - I've seen some posts on how to boot into another mode and delete a file to get it to think it's new out of the box again.
What steps were missed?  Was it almost complete?

I'd call AppleCare (# in manual) and let them walk you through it. It's free and they are very friendly and courteous.

  • 5k iMac, fresh out of the box. USB keyboard. How do I turn it on?

the title says it all. I've pressed every key on the keyboard, starting with the media eject key. Nothing.

rkaufmann87, I'd like to very gently suggest that there are only two things I mentioned in my post. Mind reading isn't required.
And, in fact, neither is an answer, because I figured it out. I must have had my glasses off when I was looking at the back, and missed the power button. I'm all set now.
For those who might be as blind as me, the power button is on the left hand side in back as your are facing the iMac.

  • When I try to update my apps the Email that pops out in the box is not mine. How can I change it, delete it please help?

When I try to update the apps the email address is not correct n it's not my apple I.D I don't know how it got there in the first place. I want to delete it and have mine on there hoe can I solve this problem?

It's because the app was purchased under a different Apple ID and is being updated using a different ID. Try using the same Apple ID which was used to download the app and retry. If not, delete the app completely and re-download using YOUR Apple ID.

  • Mac Mini, screen share setup over network out of the box?

    Greetings,
Is it possible to screen share and setup a new Mac Mini out of the box? Ultimately, I'm trying to figure out if I really need to purchase a separate screen just to setup the machine.

  • Helix stuttering, locking up out of the box

Helix, brand new out of the box.  Whenever data transfers are taking place the thing basically locks up for a minute or two and then comes back to life.  Going into the even viewer I get a ton of warnings like this
"The IO operation at logical block address e263a8 for Disk 0 was retried"  I am assuming this thing shipped with a bad HD?
    All updates have been performed.

Sounds like a bad secor/block. You could confirm with a disk diagnostic tool, like smartmontools or HDTune. You might try a lowlevel format if you're in a rush or familiar. If not, I recommend contacting support as soon as possible

  • New out of the box MacBook Pro with Caps Lock/Num Lock lit keys

I just set up my brand new MacBook Pro 15" laptop and, right out of the box, the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys were lit up. I didn't think anything of it, and transferred all my user files from my old PowerBook G4. Well, they 2 keys seem to be working in reverse. When Caps Lock is lit up green, all characters are in lower case. Same as Num Lock. Any advice? Do I have a lemon?
    Thanks!

I've also had this problem twice over the past couple of weeks.
I have a theory that it has something to do with plugging in my USB mouse during the system boot. A reboot cured it both times though, and it's not gotten tot he point that it's annoying enough to investigate further.

  • WRVS4400N issue out of the box. Can't connect to the unit for setup.

As mentioned, I cannot get a dhcp address from this unit to my notebook for configuration. I have tried manually assigning an ip address in the 192.168.1.1 network and it doesn't work wither. I tried another machine and still the same problem. I also reset the unit twice.
So far I can't do anything with this unit right out of the box.
    Anyone have a fix?
    Thanks

  • Why during setup of mx922 I get a 6000 and a 6001 error message right out of the box

I just purchased a MX922 and out of the box I get a 6000 error message why?

I'm glad I was able to help.  I kind of wish mine hadn't worked because I ended up being one of the "lucky" individuals where my phone didn't restore from the backup and I lost all of my contacts, calendar appts, notes, etc.  It took me an extra 2 hrs last night to rebuild the next month worth of appts and try to rebuild my contact list from my yahoo contacts.  Oh well.  I will be getting an android at my next upgrade.  I'm tired of all of the BS that comes with owning an iPhone.

  • IMac #2, Froze out of the box...

A quick update on the status of my "Freezing 24" Aluminum iMac". The new replacement iMac froze at the store, right out of the box.
5 hours of AppleCare phone support, 11 days of in store repair and 2 hours of standing in the store... I have a new replacement iMac with potentially the same problem.
The original 24" 2.4G Aluminum iMac was freezing regularly about 5 - 10 times a day and was almost completely unusable. This machine was 70 days old when I decided to contact AppleCare.
After AppleCare referred me to the local store for repair I was told 3 - 5 days for a replacement of the logic board (motherboard), this turned into 7 days then 10 days and finally 11 days before the part came in and was replaced.
The Apple repair technician indicated that the iMac had passed all hardware tests and was ready to go.
Fortunately, I had read the forum posts and wanted to know for sure that the freezing issue was resolved. I decided to boot the machine up in the store, and verify if it was or was not remedied.
Bad News! Upon initial boot, artifacts and graphics glitches and 2 minutes into the OS, changing screen savers the iMac froze.
Besides the freezing, they (Apple repair) had also damaged the outside case of the new iMac and scratched the Aluminum casing on 3 corners during repair.
I was already not too happy, however the repair technician was GREAT (Thank you! Repair Man @ Lynnwood, WA -- Left out his name, as to not cause problems) and decided that with the iMac still freezing and the damage to the machine it would be their pleasure to replace the iMac with a brand new one. ** Keep in mind, my iMac is 88 days old **
At that point, I asked store management if it would be possible to upgrade my purchase to the 2.8 Extreme and pay the difference since we were doing a replacement anyway. They were very helpful and friendly and made this an incredibly easy replacement.
Here is the bad news... Right out of the box, the new Aluminum 24" 2.8G iMac froze about 2 minutes into the 2nd reboot after applying the iMac 1.2 update for Tiger.
Not sure if that is the problem (the 1.2 update), but this is very frustrating. The Apple store manager was very empathetic and was promising to make this right no matter the cause.
After several more reboots and tests, I was unable to get the iMac to freeze and maybe it appeared to be an isolated case.
We decided that I would take the new iMac back home and if it failed even once more that they would indeed replace it until I had a working model regardless of how long I have it.
I have now installed a fresh copy of Leopard, and it has yet to freeze as I go through the setup screens. I will update if any problems arise.
    Hope this helps.

    Here's an update.
I haven't had one freeze yet.
Unfortunately, I wish I had seen this at the store...
I didn't think to check, but on a black background you can clearly see an obvious white light bleeding in on the edge of the screen in the lower right portion of the display.
Backlight bleeding is a problem with a lot of iMac's... I had yet to have it happen to me, but it looks like my iMac (new again) replacement is going back to the Apple Store tomorrow for another replacement.
This is getting real old. Besides, like all Mac people, we care about the resell value of the machine. There is no way to get your money out of your iMac, when you have to disclose that it has a bright white backlight bleeding spot on the display when you watch a DVD or when the screensaver comes on.
Spending a few thousand dollars on a new Mac shouldn't be like playing the lottery. Hoping you get a good machine, or maybe you get a freezing one or a bad display.
So now it is adding up.
5 hours on the phone with AppleCare
11 days without the iMac while being repaired
2 hours of standing in the Apple Store
4 hours of driving back and forth to the Apple Store
... and 2 more hours of driving tomorrow, with another 1 hour of waiting.
And all of this, while hoping to get one that works and is worth $2300.00...

  • Where is the SP 2010 out of the box workflow status value stored?

I created an out of the box Approval - SharePoint 2010 workflow (TEST1) on a custom list. When I created this out of the box workflow, I specified a name for the task (TEST1 Tasks) and history (TEST1 History) list.
The workflow is creating tasks, sending emails, and the task emails lead me to a screen where I can approve or reject the requests.
However, TEST1 - the list that contains the items created - doesn't have a status column.  The TEST1 Tasks has a status column. But I would prefer the people working with the workflow just look at TEST1 and not the Tasks or History lists.
What is the preferred way to create one of these list workflows so that the admins only have to look at the specific tasks that have been submitted and they can see which have been approved or not?
    Thank you

Thank you for your reply. Initially, I didn't have content approval turned on, had workflow approval turned on, but didn't have a status column. I also had an error in the history list that the status could not be created.
When I turned on the content approval, then I got a status column, but now my list has a warning across the top telling the user that their request won't be public until approved.
I don't really WANT a document approval workflow. But I don't see how to set up what I do want.
What I need is a simple custom list - a few lookup columns, the rest static data columns, that describe an action that is being requested. That request (ala the list item) is what needs to be approved or rejected. There is no publishing needed in this workflow.
The approval workflow was the closest I could see for setting up such a simple request workflow.

  • Why Java Web Start doesn't support Pack200 out-of-the-box?

    Hello All,
Why Java Web Start doesn't support Pack200 out-of-the-box? I was hoping that Java 6 would make things easier by adding direct support for Pack200 in Java Web Start and JNLP without needing to use servlets, etc.? All my clients are Java 5 or above so I can't push the Pack200 compressed version of the jar to every single one of them and there is no selection process needed. But I can't do it because of the servlet or complex Apache server setup requirement (it would be a headache to get customers' web server admins to set up Apache or whatever web server that way).
My question is why is there unwillingness to add Pack200 support directly to Java Web Start and JNLP so that you can start Pack200 compressed jars just like you would start any jar using Java Web Start? Is te a technical problem?
    Thank you,
    Mete Kural

    Hallo,
I didnt try it, but the webstart FAQs read:
Can I use Pack200 compression with the JnlpDownloadServlet?
Yes. The JnlpDownloadServlet distributed in the samples directory of the JDK now supports Pack200. If you deploy yourfile.jar along with yourfile.jar.pack.gz the packed file will be downloaded when the client is running Java Web Start 1.5.0 or later.

For further information you may want to look at
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/javaws/developersguide/downloadservletguide.html#pack200
The configuration of the server and the the servlet (as described in the second link) is as easy as it seems.
I got it working on the first try and it was my first experience with websevers at all.

  • Can i reset N8 to out of the box condition?

    Hi everyone,
I was thinking of restoring nokia N8 to "out of the box"(just purchased) condition. As we know that a soft reset(*#7370#) along with a factory reset(*#7780#) does exactly the same thing in a s^1 phone and one doesn't loose anything that comes as a part of firmware(or as i understand, please confirm/clear if its otherwise).
But in case of s^3 devices(came to know from a sticky thread above), its not the case and one looses some stuff that came preloaded on the phone(should be part of the firmware as far as i understand).
So what i want to know is the consequences of (i.e. what i loose from my phone):-
    1. Performing a *#7370#
    2. Performing a *#7780# 3. Pressing the power key for 8 secs
    On a nokia N8.
I want to restore the original folder structure and keep my device neatly managed(a bit obsessed to keep things in order, though i'm not suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder, lol). So please help me to achieve this.
[N.B: i don't want to go to nokia care point to get this done, or to get stuff reloaded if i loose something that came preset].
    Thanks for patience.

    @Roshanrims
Last observations are that not surprised N8 so cheap on pre-owned market as who can be bothered faffing around (after three finger power on reset to remove data) when selling to try to get it back as it should be.
Be aware that irrespective of "Hard reset" or re-flashing firmware whenever OVI Store is opened again on N8 it asks are you "username" and asks for password!
Have always found that after "hard reset" always seems to fail initial prompt to sign in to Nokia account with "try later" but that maybe because in marginal mobile reception area.
Long as you copy any .dcf material off mass memory it can always be restored later.

  • Extend out-of-the-box script for Publishing Vendor to ERP.

    Hello Experts,
We are using ESO 5.1 SP9.
I would like to now how it's possible to modify the out-of-the-box script that publishes the vendor to ERP (this script actually generates an XML file). Current client wants to add more fields that are required in their SAP backend system.
I've already created the extension fields so this information can be captured by the vendor in ESO system. Now I need the information found on these fields to move to the XML file so PI module can process them to ERP.
Only thing I found was through Setup-> System Setup -> Integration -> Script Definition -> Publish Supplier.
    Script is as follows:
    import com.frictionless.sap.integration.exporter.FileExporter;
    FileExporter exporter = new FileExporter(doc);
    exporter.process();
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello Guys,
I was trying to replicate this in version 7.0 for master agreement's extensions.
I've enabled the extensions in the Integrated Document Configuration for the class
    contracts.Contract.
Is there anything else that I should set/configure to get this working? I'm looking the XML file that is being sent to PI and the extensions are not there.
    Thanks!

  • HP 4510 Prints Skew/Slant out of the box on 2 different printers

I have purchased and returned (2) 4510tn laser printers that prints skewed/slanted (very minor) right out of the box.  Have worked with HP support to find a solution but they don't even acknowledgement that the problems exist.  I believe this is a defect across the entire line since the same thing happened with two brand new printers.  Has anyone out there experience the same problem?

    Hi Chris,
    This sounds interesting.
My first thoughts is that you have some sort of printer class configured, although this works as a load balancer for print jobs, it is not supposed to split a single job amongst the printers in the pool. Anyway, to check if this is set, you can open the Printer Setup Utility and look at the printer list. In the King column, you will see Printer Pool.
Another thought is network addressing. If you are using TCP/IP to connect to these printers, any chance there could be an IP address duplication?
Also, are the Mac's connected directly via IP to these printers or are they connecting via a share from a print server?

Straight out of the box I am having trouble connecting to lom. Using a serial cable I can connect and see the lom service start after power is connected, when the login line appears i loose control of the session. Any ideas? I don't know what the IP address is set to so I can't setup via browser.

Well, I took my 16GB iPhone 3g (white) back to the Apple Store today and the Genius looked it over -- said that's the first keyboard problem he's seen come in and mentioned that it was strange the "dead zone" on the touch screen was vertical since, according to him, most "dead zones" tend to be horizontal areas. He said the touch screen matrix is laid out in three horizontal bands on the screens.
Bottom line: he gave me a new working iPhone 3g.
He did mention that all returned iPhone 3g's are being sent directly back to the iPhone 3g engineering team for full "autopsies", not just sent back to factory for refurb. He said they want to fully diagnose and understand what defects are out there so as to solve the root cause moving forward.
