Outgoing mail failing on local wifi

I've looked over other topics concerning the iPhone and outgoing mails not working but I believe my situation is a unique comparitively:
I, of coarse, have my mail settings synced between my Macbook and my iPhone - while on the same wifi station, I can send outgoing email through Apple Mail using the same account (and outgoing server) that my iPhone is on my Macbook - but as soon as I attempt to use the same account (and outgoing server) on my iPhone to send a mail, I get the "cannot connect to .." message.
I've re-synced my Apple Mail settings and have had no luck - yet, if I switch off the wifi and go to EDGE, it sends the email fine. Although this is a solution, it's a hassle to continuously turn edge on and off depending on which email account I'm trying to send from. Any clues?

Check your router/firewall and see if you have any "port blocking". Your firewall settings may be allowing only the Macbook to the email ports as a security measure.
If you have multiple email accounts, can other email accounts send using your wifi? If so, are they the same type of accounts (POP3, IMAP, etc)? That could help determine if it's at your firewall or if it's an account problem.

  • Att.yahoo outgoing mail fails again

    I am helping a friend that just bought his first iMac. The store set up his sbcglobal.net mail on his computer when he bought it. About a week layer he said he could no longer send mail. He had called both Apple & AT&T & each pointed the finger to the other, but no one was able to get it to work.
    After reading some apple discussion topics, I went over & got it working . I trashed the com.apple.mail.plist, deleted the sbc account and added it back. The mail app did this automatically, setting the correct mail type, port & smtp. It worked about a week & he called today & said it had quit sending mail again (just the spinning wheel beside the sent mail box.
    I repeated the above sequence, irash plist, remove acct. & add it back again. mail started working again but I have no confidence it won't quit again in a few days.
    Anyone have any idea what could cause this or what I could do to isolate what is failing?

    After reading some other discussion on outgoing mail server going OFFLINE, I remembered that when I checked the outgoing smtp account, it said it was offline. Sounds like I may have the same problem, but haven't seen an answer on what to do about it. I don't ever see this problem on my mobileme account, just the att.yahoo account.
    Any way to bring the account online without having to remove & add the account again?

  • Connection to outgoing mail server failed only while on WiFi

    I can only send emails out when I am not on a wifi connection (ie Wifi turned off). When it is on it say the "connection to outgoing mail server failed" smtp-server.satx.rr.com
    Is there a fix for this?

    Enter your userID and password for the SMTP server smtp-server.satx.rr.com even though it says "optional".

  • IPhone can send outgoing mail, Macbook can't from same wifi

    I have a local wifi spot that I spend a lot of time at and all of the sudden I'm unable to send outgoing mail from my MacBook but ougoing mail works fine on my iPhone using the exact same wifi.
    Mail works fine when I'm at home, and my house, as well as the public wifi have the same ISP. (smtp.cox.central.net)
    The connection doctor has a green light on and says it's connected to all outgoing servers but stil won't send anything.
    I've read tons of threads and have stumbled onto a couple hints to add the ISP's DNS numbers to my account settings, but I don't know how to do that.

    The SMTP servers you're using will probably need to be adjusted, when you send from the local wifi spot. That or you need to use authenticated SMTP (like .Mac).

  • Outgoing mail is failing in eM Client, authentication issues

    I cannot send mail through eM Client, it fails and asks for credentials. Up until Friday eM Client was working fine, and nothing has changed in the configurations. I tested eM Client and gmail and it worked without an issue, using port 25, outgoing.verizon.net and not using a secure connection.
    My wife is also having this issue on her computer using the same software as an email client. I would say it's the client, but it works fine with gmail, both sending and receiving. 
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Outgoing mail server and WiFi Questions

    Can either of you tell me what's involved in choosing a Wi-Fi network? I'm trying to choose one, but don't know whether I'm DHCP, BootP or Static. DHCP is preselected, but then the only lines that allow me to fill in anything are DNS, Search Domains and Client ID. What should I put there? My IPS is earthlink, and I created a client id, but I'm not getting anywhere. Thanks for any help you can give.

    EarthLink should allow you to user their outgoing mail server smtpauth.earthlink.net on port 587 on WiFi or EDGE. Cwmx.com is a work around that only works on EDGE.
    As for choosing a WiFi network. Do you have a wireless router such as an Airport Base Station?
    If so, you would connect to it, and it connects to your internet connection. Many places offer free WiFi or WiFi that they charge for. This can include restaurants, coffee shops, libraries, and even some cities are experimenting with it. To join one of those networks go to Settings -> WiFi, turn WiFi on, and it will search for WiFi networks that are within range.
    Click on the wireless network you want to join. If there is a "lock" next to it that indicates whoever setup that wireless router or base station, and is likely paying for it to connect to the internet set it up to use encryption and a password. You would have to ask them for permission to use their network and the password to use.

Launch Address Book and one at a time, select a contact's name to highlight it and then single click and drag the contact to the created Contacts folder on the Desktop. This will create a vCard copy of the contact.
    Using the Finder, go to Home > Shared. Place the Contacts folder on the Desktop in the Shared folder.
    When your kid logs in to his/her account, the Contacts folder will be available in his/her Shared folder at Home > Shared.
    Launch Address Book and at the menu bar, go to File > Import and select vCards. Navigate to/within the Contacts folder in the Shared folder and the vCards in the Contacts folder will be imported to your kid's Address Book.

    I am having difficult time sending photos  it shows they are sending but then an exclamation point appears and it says "the outgoing mail service failed". Then it adds other outgoing mail servers could be added  I have no idea how to do that.

    Go to the email settings, and re-enter your Outgoing Server username and password.
    Have you changed that recently, perhaps on the Incoming Server but not on the Outgoing server?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost       
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Can you send email from that account on another device?
    - You can try deleing the account from the iPod and reentering the settings.

    Although my outgoing mail goes out just fine on cellular networks, and on my home wifi, outgoing mail isn't sent when connected to some wifi networks.
    I use the apple outgoing mail server.
    What is unusual however is that my outgoing mail address is not from a standard domain.   I have my own.
    Could it involve an spr record?

    Do you have a wireless network at home and Is the email account provided by your internet service provider associated with your wireless network?
    Most, if not all internet service providers block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time unless the SMTP server is authenticated. The same applies when connected to the internet via the cellular network. Recieving is not a problem regardless the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time.
    If the email account is provided by your ISP, most ISPs do not have an authenticated SMTP sever for the email account they provide.
    Both my email accounts have an authenticated SMTP server and I've never had a problem sending with either account regardless the ISP associated with a wi-fi network I'm connected to at the time or when connected to AT&T's cellular network - for 2+ years aporoaching 3 years this July.

    Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • Mail fails to work when VPN'ed into server

    We have a Mac Mini server running OS X Server (Mountain Lion recently upgraded from Snow Leopard Server). We have an external DNS service that points to the router that has a fix IP address, and the server has an internal fixed IP address from the router. We also run DNS on the mini server referencing this internal fixed IP address. Yes, the dreaded split brain.
    We run our mail from the server. When a client is outside the local network (coming in from the Internet), incoming and outgoing mail to the server work fine. However, when VPN'ed in or on the local network directly, mail gets iffy, and SMTP never works.
    sudo changeip -checkhostname resolves just fine.
    I checked for console messages from the client machine, and the closest I could find to a mail message was:
    8/15/12 1:34:39.102 PM Mail[282]: [<FQ server name>:636] Could not bind to server: Invalid DN syntax (ID 34)
    and
    8/15/12 1:34:40.702 PM Mail[282]: [<_LibSasl2SASLClient: 0x7fedd8c6f4e0> mechanism: PLAIN security layer: no] Failed to start the SASL connection
    SASL(-1): generic failure:
    Password Service log on the server does not yield anything.
    Aside from this repeated warning (I'll solve this later) the SMTP logs have nothing interesting:
    Aug 15 13:35:00 <FQ server name> postfix/cleanup[67032]: warning: recipient <_mailman> uid falls below minimum allowed: 78 < 501
    I know it is probably some sort of DNS weirdness, but I don't know where to look! Server.app has no DNS error logs to look at.
    Any help appreciated!

    Hi -  Is dns lookup set to all clients in Server.app DNS ?
    To set logging for dns:
    #look for the block below and change info to debug
    #Ctrl x then Y then <ret>
    #Stop and Start DNS in server.app or $ sudo serveradmin stop dns / $ sudo serveradmin start dns
    #log is /Library/Logs/named.log and is available in Console.app
    $ sudo nano /etc/named.conf
