Outgoing Mail Port Problem

OK. Here's one for me.
Now I can't send email through Mail, but can send through webmail. Problem seems to be that I can't access port 465 to send mail. When trying to set it as a custom port, it defaults to the next when I open prefs back. So, it seems the problem would be that the computer won't let mail access the port resulting in not sending.
It was working since the 10.6.7 update, but quit. It seems to be a similar problems others are having.
Anyone have any ideas other than reinstall???? I would like to get to the root of the problem.

Hi there! I am having a similar problem. I have always used the default ports for my outgoing server, but suddenly it was no longer working. I looked up some info from my hosting provider and saw they required the outgoing port to be 1025. I entered that into the custom port box on the advanced tab, and it started working again. But when I started up my computer the next day, it no longer worked. I opened the advanced tab and found that the info in the custom port box had been changed to 25. When I edited it back to 1025, it started working in. For some reason, the number I enter in that box won't save.
Did yours get changed every time you closed Preferences? Mine only changes back when I restart the computer. I can't restart my computer at the moment to check, but I'll try your fix and see if it works.

  • I have just set up a new email host. The settings seem simple until i get to outgoing mail port. I don't find a place for that. Advice on Apple support says to click to continue, but there is no click to click. Any help?

In mail settings, how do I find the window or box to insert the outgoing mail port designation?

I am on 10.7, so Mail interface may look a bit different, but here a couple of screenshots - on the (Preferences) accounts page, look at the bottom for outgoing mail server and then choose Edit:
    In the resulting window:
enter the information needed; also click on Advanced and enter any info/port numbers given to you (unless it does it automatically).

  • Problem Mail program & Outgoing Mail Server - Problem with Earthlink

I had Earthlink POP / SMTP ( In/Out ) Mail server and mac Mail set up when I pulled the power plug on PMG4 due to freeze up !
Now have no contents in mac Mail program In/Out/Sent/Draft on the PMG4 hardrive or the external Lacie brick back-up hardrive. I am told by Earthlink this is because I had the " don't save email copy on server " box checked in the Mail/Add account/Advanced section.
Any idea how I can retieve my email folders ?
Also cannot get rid of 6 account names listed erroneously under Mail/Preferences/Account/Accounts Information/outgoing mail server ! And yet there is only one account listed when the accounts button is pushed. This is making it impossible to connect to the earthlink server ! Earthlink says everythings fine on their end and I have the correct Server Port number entered ! Earthlink says it's a problem with macMail !

  • Comcast outgoing mail server problems

  • Outgoing Mail & Password Problems-Solution

    Hi All,
After upgrading to Snow Leopard I had a couple of issues.
    1) Couldn't send mail
    2) Passwords in Mail were not getting saved
To resolve the outgoing mail problem see this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2998
Basically edit your outgoing server and change the outgoing port to custom and put in you appropriate port number. I use Cox without SSL so I used 25
For the password problem go to your Home folder, go into Library and move the folder called "Keychain to the trash then restart. After restarting open Mail go into Preferences and add your password back to your account. It should now retain the password. This will also help with other apps like Safari that use Keychain to store passwords.
Also I was able to copy a keychain from another computer to get back all of the passwords I already had. After the upgrade my keychain was mostly empty.
    Good Luck,
    Mark

Had been trying that, to no avail. Found that I had to entirely delete the account and set up entirely new account with new password which worked.
    Thx

  • Voice Mail Port Problem with CUCM 8.5 and Connection 8.5

Hi im having a very strange problem witch the voice mail ports between a CM 8.5 and a Cisco Unity connection 8.5 , i configured them and they registered and all was working fine, however when i rebooted the servers the ports stayed in status unknown i tried resetting them both sides, re adding config both sides and nothing after hours of trying and deleting and adding the same config it worked again, however we have a power outage today and the same thing happened again status unknown and still i cannot get them to register again. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

I'm not sure but it could be a DNS issue. Is DNS configured or are you just using IP addresses?  Make sure everything is resolving correctly.

  • Outgoing mail server problem

Without having changed any settings on my 3GS, suddenly it does not send mail. I can send mail from my MacBook using the same account. Both the 3GS and the MacBook receive mail. The message on the 3GS is "Cannot Send Mail. The connection to the outgoing server "stmp.mac.com" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings>Mail, Contacts and Calendars" Is anyone please able to help?

Did you transfer the account settings from your Mac to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process?
If so, deselect this under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences and select Apply.
Follow this by deleting and manually recreating the account on your iPhone.

  • My emails wont send out, outgoing mail server problems. ANy help?

i am trouble sendine emails on ipad when im at starbucks. the outgoing mail server does not work. my domain is one i registered on my own, not a hotmail etc.

    Hi Friend,
Which kind of account are using? It is just happen when you are at Starbucks, isn't? If not:
If you are using a business account (for example [email protected]) you must set POP account info properly, filling all the blank fields (name, email address, description, password, Host Name, user's name, SMTP). Just one field blanked causes error in sending/receiving.
If you are using a default account (iCloud, Yahoo!, Hotmail...), fill all the blank fields (Name, Email account, Password, Description) and sign in.
If not works, delete the account and sign in again
    Hope it will be helpful

  • Outgoing Mail server Problems

I have added my AOL accounts to my Mail app and it was working just fun, but all of a sudden when I tried to send mail from those addresses, this thing comes up:
    <<Cannot send from this server.
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.>>
What's going on? Now it just puts everything in the outbox until I get it sorted. Thanks!

Do you have attachments on any of the mail you are sending?
The mail message might be too big or the server is busy with sending other messages or receiving mail- this could be why you are getting the “try a different outgoing mail server”
I get this message on and off for no reason-

  • TS3899 BT OUTGOING MAIL SERVER PROBLEM

Hi I have a bt email account and I am having trouble sending emails. I have contacted BT and they have confirmed that the outgoing server is smtp.outlook.com, server port 587 and outgoing SSL is enabled but I still cannot send mail. Does anyone know how to resolve?

Every non-isp account I've set up with various hosted domain sites recommends you use your own ISP's SMTP server to send mail. These email accounts are hosted on machines that are also hosting other sites and the domain host's figure the ISP's SMTP server is probably more robust. I've always followed this advice.
That's not an answer to why XP is working and Leopard not, but may explain why Leopard fails so often with these accounts.
Many people have fixed several kinds of trouble sending emails from Leopard by just adding their ISP's DNS numbers to the Network Prefs>Advanced settings. It can help Leopard begin sending emails quicker and seems to also settle down problems that may be caused by part of the link "timing out". I don't have a real understanding of why the solution is required for Leopard, when Tiger didn't need it, but it's working for me and a couple of my clients.
The numbers are easy to add, and remove if there is no improvement.

  • Outgoing mail port setup

I have an eMail service which is recommending differing incoming and outgoing ports. I've set incoming port to 995. I'm told to set the outgoing port to 465. Mail's "Advanced" screen doesn't seem to present an option for a port that differs.
Can anyone shed some light on this situation?
    Appreciated.

Edit the SMTP Server List in the Account Information Tab. There is an option in the Outgoing server popup.
Once there, select your server and click on Advanced.
The default is to use any of the three main ports, including 465, but sometimes it helps to set it to custom and type in 465.

  • Outgoing mail & router problem - can't send (can receive) messages through Mail on specific network

    Hello everyone,
There's a problem that's been bugging me for quite some time now. I'm using Mail to handle my gmail email, and everything's working fine, except when i'm connected to my work wifi.
When i'm connected to my work wifi I can't send e-mails. Mail will try to send a message (it shows a loading icon next to the 'Sent' mailbox)
for a few minutes before notifying me that it cannot send the message. When I look at the 'Activity' window, it seems to be stuck on 'checking account connections' and 'sending message'..
The strange thing is, when I switch networks to some other wireless network (my home network, or our neighbors, for example), the message is sent straight away and everything works perfectly.
I'm using the standard gmail settings (smtp.gmail.com, standard ports & password authentication)..
My work router is a Thomson TG789vn.
I hope someone can help :-)
    Cheers, Peppoo.
p.s. I just testing sending again, and was able to send 1 email. It took about 20 min to send.. ( :-s ), it was only text.. weird.

Hey Lanny, thanks for your reply.
Hmm.. I can't imagine that being the case.. Sending e-mail from the browser works just fine.

  • How do I change the outgoing mail setting?

I need to change the outgoing mail port setting -- but I can't find where to do that. Can anyone help?

Firefox doesn't do email, it's a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access web mail, you need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
If your problem is with Thunderbird, see this forum for support.

  • Sbcglobal SMTP Outgoing Mail

I ISP is sbcglobal and I want to send emails using my iPhone. These are the settings from sbcglobal:
    [email protected]
    pop.att.yahoo.com
    smtp.att.yahoo.com
Outgoing mail server: Outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
Outgoing mail port #: 465, secure connection (SSL) checked
I can receive my emails through pop3 but I can't send any emails from my iPhone.
The error message I get is:
    Cannot Send Mail
Check the account settings for the outgoing server
    "smtp.att.yahoo.com"
    OK

Brewgod23 - save yourself some headaches. You can actualy use the Y!Mail preset for ATT branded accounts (sbcglobal, att, etc). Following the instructions on this link will also give you "push" (most of the time) capabilities and IMAP where all of your online folders are synced with those on your iPhone.
