Outlook 2011 quit sending email - iCloud SMTP server changed?

Anybody else notice that SMTP parameters to connect to Apple's iCloud mail servers have changed?
I use Outlook 2011 for Mac for my email client under 10.6.8. and today I noticed that my outgoing mail from Outlook on my iCloud mail account was hanging up and timing out connecting to Apple's SMTP servers.  Had not seen this problem before.  The same messages were sent successfully through Mail.app.  What was the difference?
It turns out that the outgoing server name used by Outlook - previously smtp.me.com - needed to be changed to smtp.mail.me.com and I also needed to use the alternate port 587.   I had used the previous settings successfully as recently as last week but it wasn't working this morning, so the change must have been only in the last few days.
Hope this helps somebody else who's frustrated trying to keep their Outlook email functioning on Apple's servers.

Hi paulfrom34,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are unable to send email on your Mac unless you use your iCloud account. To troubleshoot issues with sending email, please read over and work through the suggested steps located in the attached article.

    my gmail account was setup before i took delivery of the phone but could have been done when phone was activated.

    i doubt if it's a verizon issue.

  • My Mac Outlook 2011 Stopped Sending Emails for all POP Accounts from Different Providers

    I've had this problem before, but this time I am truly dumbfounded. My Outlook 2011 has randomly stopped sending emails, but I can still receive them. This has happened a few times and I normally change the ports/SSL and I can get it to work. But now I am at a loss. I have several email accounts that I manage. One of which is GMAIL, using IMAP, and this is the only account that currently works find receiving and sending. My POP accounts, four of them, all cannot send emails. They can only receive. One of them is with GoDaddy, and the other three are with an Asian company. I can't find any help on this. I've upgraded Office to the latest version. I've even deleted the accounts and added them back in, and I still can't send email. I'm frankly getting exhausted and sick of this type of problem happening. I honestly use this program and my MacBook Air to send clients information...only to find out hours later that a mail never sent because it's been stuck in my <hidden> Outbox in Outlook 2011. This has hurt me now badly on several occassions. Please HELP!

    All SMTP servers are set correctly as far as I can tell, the connection doctor says everything is fine, and I removed all my accounts to re-add them.  I added one and tried to send a message--stuck in the outbox--failed.  I added another account and deleted the first one and tried to send a message--stuck in the outbox--failed.  I'm pretty convinced the problem is with Mac's Mail client...I can send email from anywhere I've tried except for Mac's Mail client.  Thanks for the help.

  • Can't send email through SMTP server

    As some others have reported, I recently started having problems sending emails (most of the time) through my regular smtp server (receiving is not an issue). Once in a while it does go out, but most of the time I get a message "Can't send message using the server smtp.XXXX.com". I know it's not the smtp server as I can go out with my browser and use webmail and it sends fine, using the same server.
    It only affects this one main email account - my other accounts seem fine (including gmail, mac, and another pop accounts), at least so far.
    It is extremely frustrating - saw a whole lot of ideas for fixing it (changing ports, etc.), but don't want to mess up all the accounts that are working. I'm a long time Mac user, but not a real techie.

    I know it's not the smtp server as I can go out with my browser
    and use webmail and it sends fine, using the same server.
    This is wrong. Whether you can send via webmail has nothing to do with whether you can send using a standard mail client such as Mail. The outgoing server that ends up delivering the message may be the same in both cases, but the outgoing server you communicate with is not. Actually, when sending via webmail you don’t even use SMTP to communicate with the outgoing server.
    There are circumstances under which you may not be able to send using a standard mail client such as Mail no matter what you do (e.g. because the ports needed for SMTP are blocked by the ISP at the location you’re trying to send from), whereas webmail works fine — and may be your only option in those cases.
    If it works sometimes, that means your account settings are probably correct, but you cannot discard that there is a problem with the outgoing (SMTP) server that Mail has to communicate with, even if sending via webmail works fine.
    <hr>
    That said, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
    Try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible (i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc.), or shutting down both the computer and the router/modem used to connect to Internet, restarting, and see whether that makes a difference.
    Mail keeps information about outgoing (SMTP) servers in a separate list independently of the mail accounts themselves. The account settings just associate one of the available outgoing servers with each account. Orphaned or dangling outgoing server entries (i.e. not associated with any account) sometimes cause weird sending problems.
    Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers that shouldn’t be there — the Edit Server List panel shows the account each outgoing server is associated with.
    If the problem persists and you have more than one mail account, try moving the account that has the problem to the top of the list in Preferences > Accounts.

  • ICloud SMTP server timeout

    Hi all
    Using iCloud through Mail on OSX 10.7.4, I cannot send any emails
    I receive them just fine, but it will always timeout when trying to send emails
    The smtp server I seem to be on is p02-smtp.mail.me.com. I tried to ping it and it has 100% packet loss, although this might just mean they reject ICMP requests.
    Sending from my iPhone or iCloud on the web works just fine
    Any ideas?

    Seriously no one have a clue or a comment on this?
    I tried adding a different smtp server (smtp.mail.me.com), using port 587 w/ SSL and all to no avail
    Still timing out
    Is there any way to contact Apple Support directly via email or something somewhere?
    Thanks

  • Hpeprint and iCloud SMTP server

    Why can I not send mails with the icloud SMTP server to my printer using an hpeprint address? The mails are not printed an I get an error message. From all other email SMTP servers I use, it's working perfectly.
    The message I receive from icloud looks like this:
    This report relates to a message you sent with the following header fields:

    This looks like a common problem with icloud as the promlem is also reported on the support forum of hpeprint. Nobody had a solution til now.
    thanks for any useful help

    I can confirm, that it happens on my iPhone as well - using any email provider it works except when using my iCloud account. Strangely, it used to work in the past and I'm just ran into this challenge recently.

  • HOW TO: Relay/Send email from websites, Server Monitor in OS 10.5 Server

    If you don't want to run your own mail server or configure DNS on your Xserve, but you still want your website or applications like Server Monitor to send email notifications; this is what you need to do:
    Scenario: Mac OS 10.5.2 Leopard - Advanced Configuration - Setup is for strictly sending emails through SMTP, routed through your ISP or another provider. This is not for receiving emails.
    -Open up Server Admin
    If you have yet to add in a server to admin, you need to do so. Resource PDFs on setting up OS X Server are available at Apple http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/resources/ and there are video tutorials at http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=373
    -Click on your server, then choose the Settings button
    -Then choose Services from the Tabs/Buttons below
    -Select the Mail checkbox and then hit Save
    -Now choose the newly added Mail service in the left pane, then click the Settings button up top
    -Start with the Advanced tab. Under Security, un-check everything and don't use SSL unless you want to. You don't need to mess with the other sub-tabs here.
    -Next choose the Logging Tab. Under SMTP log level, choose debug so you will be able to see what goes on in the log.
    -Mailing List, Quotas and Filters tabs can go untouched. You can mess with them later if you want.
    -Click the Relay tab. It is a good idea to only accept relays from your local machine. If you uncheck this, I believe it leaves you with an open relay that anybody can access.
    -Now for the General Tab. Under Domain Name put anything you want. Any made up name and extension is fine.
    Under Host Name, again put anything you want.
    Un-check Enable POP, Un-check Enable IMAP - Basically un-check everything
    Check or leave checked Enable SMTP
    Now check Relay outgoing mail through host:
    Then enter your hosts SMTP server. ex. smtpout.secureserver.net
    Now check Authenticate to relay with user name: and enter your username and password
    -Now hit the Save button
    -Now we need to take a look at the main.cf file and add a few things
    -If you aren't showing all files in Finder already, open up Terminal.app
    Now type in: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles True
    Hit enter
    Now type in: killall Finder
    Now Finder should reset and all files should be visible - To hide all files, do the same thing but type False
    -Now open Macintosh HD and navigate to /private/etc/postfix/main.cf (Note: you won't be able to open and edit this in TextEdit. I recommend a program like TextWrangler http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/download.shtml )
    -Once you have main.cf open, all your settings should be together at the bottom of the doc. Scroll down. You will need to add in a few lines and verify all the settings are exactly as below (except of course your own names and SMTP server):
    readme_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix
    mydomain_fallback = anything.anyting
    messagesizelimit = 0
    myhostname = anything.anything
    mailbox_transport = cyrus
    mydomain = anything.anything
    mailboxsizelimit = 0
    enableserveroptions = yes
    inet_interfaces = all
    relayhost = smtpout.secureserver.net
    smtpsasl_passwordmaps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl/passwd
    smtpsasl_authenable = yes
    smtpdsasl_authenable = no
    smtpsasl_securityoptions =
    smtpduse_pwserver = no
    smtpdrecipientrestrictions = permitmynetworks,reject_unauthdestination,permit
    smtpdpw_server_securityoptions = none
    -Now save the main.cf document
    -Now go back to Macintosh HD and navigate to /private/etc/postfix/sasl/passwd
    Open passwd with TextWrangler or you editing app, and verify that your SMTP server, username and password are correct. It should look something like this:
    smtpout.secureserver.net [email protected]:password
    -This should be what you entered in Server Admin when you first started. If all is well, quit your editing app.
    -Now, while you are still at /private/etc/postfix/sasl/passwd you need to edit permissions for passwd
    You can chmod in Terminal.app or secondary click on passwd and "Get Info"
    Click the lock and enter your password to unlock the settings
    Next click the + button and add yourself and Admin
    -Now you can close out of everything and go back to Server Admin
    -Hit the Reload (twisty arrow) button at the bottom and once everything is reloaded, hit Start Mail
    -Now type localhost in your browser to see if your website can send email. You can also open up other apps such as Server Monitor and do something to change the status to have it send an email.
    -You can click on Mail in the Server Admin and then view the SMTP log. As long as emails are being sent and then removed from the queue, you are in good shape. If you are getting an SASL error or mechanism error, open up main.cf and verify your settings and/or check permissions on passwd file

    Don't you need the Mail service running to have apps like Server Monitor send email notifications? - Also for hosted sites that use the sendmail function you need a service running to get the emails sent.
    Really you are not hosting a Mail server. It is open, but there is no incoming and if you only accept SMTP relays from the local machine, there should be no issues.

  • Mail loosing iCloud SMTP server name

    Recently I have found that when I go to create a new email I cannot send it as the Mail application does not have the SMTP server assigned to my iCloud account.  Then when I try to choose one from my existing list, iCloud is greyed out and showing as offline.
    I have to then go into Mail>Preferences>Accounts then highlight my iCloud account and pick the iCloud SMTP server, then Save this amendment.  I can then create a new email and its configured to work OK.
    Anyone else have this issue or offer a suggestion?
    Running 10.8.3. Thx.

    Anyone else having this issue?  It's still going on for me.  It only happend to me since the update to 10.8.3.

  • Outlook 2007 wont send email

    I can't seem to get Outlook 2007 to send my iCloud email. The iCloud settings were configured utilizing the iCloud synch software. Anyone have an solution? I've tried changing the SMTP to smtp.me.com and that did not work. Originally, I couldn't send on my iPhone too, but I entered a secondary SMTP of smtp.me.com and that seemed to fix it on my iPhone.
    Vista/Outlook 2007/iPhone 4 (at least until UPS arrives today) :-)

    I've solved the problem: I changed the SMTP to p99-smtp.mail.me.com and it is working! :-)
    Note: in my previous post I miss typed the SMTP...I meant to type smtp.mail.me.com

  • Emails inconsistent - smtp server communication terminated early

    Hello,
    Emails are not getting sent. Java mail is sending a quit message to the SMTP server before it sends the message to "terminate with a "."" which is required for the email to send properly. Why?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    If you look at the SMTP RFC the "." is requried to signify the end of the e-mail.

  • Use other than iCloud SMTP Server?

    Hi fellows,
    iCloud is out and it is already starting to aggrevate me. I don' t want others to see my @me.com email adress. Therefore I want to change the SMTP server in my icloud account to an other email provider (gmail). But the iCloud SMTP server does not allow itself to be deactivated. It stays the primary SMTP and the gmail SMTP (which I want to make primary) stays secondary!
    I can change the SMTP in the email itself each time I write a new one, but this is very annoying!
    Can someone help?
    Btw. are you mails being pushed?! Mine do not push at all!
    Thanks in advance!
    Best Regards,
    Phillip

    Very weird, it worked with MobileMe in the iOS 5 betas.
    But I'm seeing what you're seeing.  Bummer.  I gave up on Apple and have moved my email to Google Apps using their sync.
    They ook the ability for me to add my smtp to the web interface with iCloud and now apparently in the phone as well.
    My advice, abandon the use of apple services.

  • Outlook 2010 wont send emails with attachments

    Hello
    I was starting to write the question when we found out what the problem was. So I thought I would share our resolution in here, in case someone fall in the same issue.
    One of my user with Outlook 2010 cannot send emails with attachments of some size. +-50 kb files works fine.
    But when we try a file of 1mb, the mail goes in the Outbox, Exchange status swith from Connected to Disconnected and the email stay there.
    The user is in a remote location, connected through VPN with the network where the Exchange 2013 server is
    Here is what I did:
    1. Re-create Outlook profile: wont work
    2. Re-create Windows profile: wont work
    3. Check ip settings: fine
    4. Try in OWA: wont work
    5. Look at Exchange settings for outgoing email size: 10mb
    6. Load my user's Outlook profile on another LAN: works fine
    That last point made me thought about a potential problem on the remote user's lan. So I did
    7. Check VPN config between the remote site and IT site: fine
    After googling the problem, I found that website (http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/396793-outlook-2010-client-suddenly-showing-disconnected-from-2013-exchange-server) that suggest to change the DNS setting on the client. However, the DHCP of my remote
    user was the router itself, which is giving a DC as primary DNS, and ISP DNS as secondary. I changed the secondary DNS for another DC in our organization, and guess what? Voila! Problem is gone!
    Thinking about it that make not much sense, as the primary DNS is always up the secondary shouldn't be queried. But that's what resolved our problem.
    Hope it helps someone!

  • Cannot send emails,  because the server does allow relaying

    since i've updated IOS 7 I cannot send emails,  because the server does NOT allow relaying.  None of the proposed solutions helped.

    Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Your Account > Account Name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and enter your email account and password. See if doing that fixes things.
