Outlook Connector - Address book - Global Address List

Using Outlook Connector version 7.2.402.1 on both Outlook 2003 and 2007 I am having an issue when trying to view the Global Address List. The vertical scroll bar doesn't activate unless I resize my Address Book window. Even after that it doesn't work that well. It is very erratic.
I have set up a VLV index for the Address book as follows:
dn: cn=outlook_connector_browsing_index,cn=xyz,cn=ldbm database,cn=plugins,cn=config
cn: outlook_connector_browsing_index
objectclass: top
objectclass: vlvSearch
vlvbase: o=xyz.edu,dc=xyz,dc=edu
vlvfilter: (&(mail=*)(cn=*))
vlvscope: 2
dn: cn=Sort cn,cn=outlook_connector_browsing_index,cn=xyz,cn=ldbm database,cn=plugins,cn=config
cn: Sort cn
objectclass: top
objectclass: vlvIndex
vlvenabled: 1
vlvsort: cn
Doing a tail -f on the access log while using the Address Book I can see the VLV index being used. Is there something buggy with the Outlook Connector or is there something I missed in the VLV index?
Thanks,
Scott

Users are unable to log into the Address Book server though Outlook if the Address Book (in Communications Express) is in SSL mode.
Workaround: Open Communications Express within Internet Explorer and permanently accept the self-signed certificate.In this case instead of Communications Express, you would log into Convergence using the SSL path (https://server.domain.com/iwc) and permanently accept the certificate.

  • Can i set up address book from existing list ?

    i want to set up address book from existing list
    in addition to address i want to include phone #, email

    Can you provide more information? Are you trying to gather data via a form to built an address book? You can make a form and ask for people phone number, email, address... I'm not sure what is your 'existing list'. Is it in an excel document? You would have to merge the data collected via the form manually to you existing list.

  • Outlook Connector 7.3 Globa Address book problem

    Using Outlook connector 7.3 with Outlook 2003, Against Comms Suite 6; DS5.2p6 (Sun professional services install)
    I've configured the Global address book to use our 5.2p6 DS server, and added the VLV indexes as described here
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/Configuring+Directory+VLV+Browsing+for+Connector+for+Outlook
    But, when searching the GAB in outlook I get:
    "The action could not be completed"
    The debug log shows
    10/08/2009 15:49:59.015 (0x0a58) {Gal   } [Error  ]: XLdap::findEntryStartsWith Ldap search returned 0x32

    I've verified the LDAP GAB server is reachable from the client
    Any hits as to where the problem is?

    FYI;
    It appears that a combination of anonymous binding and the search filter caused this issue

  • Cannot save new outlook contacts or access Global Address List

    I have outlook 2007 connected via VPN to exchange server.  I can
    1) Send and receive emails
    2) Edit contacts that have already been created some time ago
    3) Copy and paste existing contacts
    However, when I try and save a new contact it says the Microsoft exchange server is not available. I am connected because I am showing as connected and contacts created via the outlook web app appear almost immediately in my Outlook.  However,
    I cannot save any edits to these but can copy and paste as a whole record.
    Also, I cannot access the Global Address Book at all.
    Does anyone know what the problem could be?
    Thanks

  • HT4489 How can I synchronize contacts between Apple Address Book/iPhone address book and Outlook (I'm on Mac OX10.7.4 and using Office 2011)?

    I appear to have done what I should to move to iCloud on my Mac, MacbookAir, iPhone and iPad.  Using Outlook 2011 on the iMac and unable to sync contacts between Outlook and my Apple Address Book and iPhone over the cloud.  I gather lots of people have the same problem but some appear to have solved it... any ideas?
    Also, in some sync, I managed to duplicate the entries on the Address Book on my Mac, whereas the iCloud Address Book is ok.  How can I replace the Address Book on my computer with the one on iCloud?
    Thank You for any help!

    Hi Lucy, I had the same problem with Outlook data sync. Once you've enabled iCloud all your contacts are moved to iCloud and are no longer stored on Mac, that's why Outlook cannot reach them - there is simply nothing to reach as data physically stored in cloud.
    I use SyncMate to solve this problem. This app allows connecting and syncing numerous devices and accounts with your Mac and they have recently added iCloud into this list (here the page where they describe sync with iCloud http://www.sync-mac.com/cloud-sync.html ).
    This is how I established sync of my Outlook data with iCloud via this app.
    1. SyncMate syncs only that data which is located on your Mac so you will need to move your contacts back to Address Book on mac from iCloud and disable iCloud for contacts (in order they were stored on Mac, not in iCloud).
    2. You install SyncMate and add iCloud as a new connection (depending on data you want to sync you need to choose "Cloud contacts" or "Cloud calendars" connection in SyncMate wizard and log into your iCloud via SyncMate). Once you've done this, you can sync data on Mac with iCloud via SyncMate.
    3. I may assume that automatic sync option is enabled in Outlook preferences (as previously your contacts on Mac were synced with Outlook). If no - please, enable it (got to Outlook preferences).
    4. Once all this done, data will be automatically synced betwen Outlook and iCloud (latter via SyncMate). The trick of SyncMate is that data is physically located on your Mac (thus ensuring it will be synced with other devices and accounts SyncMate supports, as I said before, SyncMate works with data which is located on Mac), but you still can have it in iCloud (sync will be performed via SyncMate, no need to enable iCloud itself).
    5. And of course, you will be able to sync your iPhone contacts with your Mac (SyncMate supports sync with iPhones also). These contacts will be also synced to Outlook.

  • When renaming an address book through properties, I can no longer see the new address book in my list. Where did it go?

    I have about 30 different address books. Some of them where old but i didn't want to delete them. I no longer wanted them at the top of my list so I went to properties and added "z-" to the folder name to have them at the bottom of the list. Now I can't see the address books that I renamed. What happened to them and how do I get them back?

    Make hidden files and folders visible:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
    '''First locate all address book filenames in thunderbird.'''
    * In Thunderbird:
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * click on 'show folder' button
    a new window opens.
    If you were going to alter anything you would need to close Thunderbird, but on this occasion you are just looking for information.
    * organise the list by 'Type'
    * look for all files that have MAB File type
    each file will have a .mab extension and these are the address books.
    Two address books are default address books called:
    abook.mab = Personal Address Book
    history.mab = Collected Addresses.
    Other addressbooks maybe called eg: abook-1.mab
    * Make a list of all the address book.mab filenames. Careful.. as spelling is important.
    '''Now to check what filename = what desciption in config editor'''
    * In thunderbird:
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > General tab
    * click on 'config Editor' button
    it will tell you to be careful :)
    now to locate info for each address book.
    '''How to search for each address book using info gained from checking the Profile folder.'''
    In top search type: abook.mab
    you should see this line:
    ldap_2.servers.pab.filename; abook.mab
    notice the 'pab' in ldap_2.servers.'''pab'''.filename
    In top search type: pab
    you will now be able to locate:
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.description; Value = Personal Address Book
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.dirType; Value = 2
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.filename; Value = abook.mab
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.position; Value = 2
    Using the above method will identify which .mab file in profile uses what info in config Editor.
    '''You can do this same method to check to see if the 'Z addressbook name' is in the list and which .mab file is assigned to that description.'''
    In top search type the name you assigned: Z addressbook name
    it should return a line:
    * ldap_2.servers.XXXX.description; Value = Z addressbook name
    make a note of the XXXX part in description
    In top search type: XXXX - whatever the actual description XXXX said to get the 'description', 'dirType', 'filename' and 'position'
    '''Please report back on results.'''
    Did you locate:
    eg: ldap_2.servers.XXXX.description; Value = Z addressbook name
    or was this still listed as old name without the Z part?
    Did you locate all of these 'description', 'dirType', 'filename' and 'position' for each of the missing address books?
    or were only some of these shown? Tell us what you found.
    Did you find that there were .mab files in Profile folder but they were missing in Config Editor or in Config Editor but not in Profile folder?
    Please state what was found. You can copy paste from the config editor.

  • Address book : provide contact list import/export from other software

    There should be an easy way to import contact information from Gmail accounts, Hotmail, and so forth. They're providing efficient ways to export their database, so it shouldn't be too hard for developers to add this usual feature.
    I would agree that the contact export/import procedures usually offered are not user-friendly. But it's not user-friendly either to recreate a contact list of 200+ contacts manually.
    I hope this feature will be added in a near future. Thanks. Rodan

    Thanks, I'll definitely use this bugreporter in the future.
    Concerning this case, I've just found this feature is already implemented.
    Address Book > File > Import
    Strange I couldn't find any documentation about it online. Well, here it si now, I hope people will see it. Bug closed anyway. :-)

  • Address Book "Edit Distribution List" not working in Lion 10.7.2

    I have been told by people in my "Groups" that I am sending to the wrong e-mail addresses.  I checked and sure enough so I went to edit the distribution list for that group and it's greyed out. It worked prior to this update. My wifes is still using 10.7.1 and edit didtribution list is not greyed out.....anyone having the same issue or any ideas where it is now or how to re-enable it....or is it just broken?  Also I am contented into iCloud.

    To add to my original post.... My wifes OS was 10.7.1 and I just finished the update to 10.7.2 and signed into iCloud.  I first transfered iCal but left Address Book.  When I went into Address Book and checked the Distribution List it was not greyed out.  Next I transfered Address Book to iCloud and checked Dist List and it was greyed out.  Next I removed Address Book from iCloud (leaving a copy of it on the computer), restarted AB and checked to see if DL was still greyed and it was not.  So no fixes here but if you want the functionality of the DL you could turn off Address Book in iCloud temp until they come up with a fix.  Important: if you turn off Address Book from iCloud be sure to leave a copy on your puter and of course before doing any of this make a Archive Backup of Address Book.  I guess at this point it'll just be a waiting game until a fix comes out.  Cheers, Neil

  • Address Book Groups - Distribution List problems

    Recently upgraded to 10.6 and now on 10.6.3 - 2 Problems which are probably related:
    1 - I cannot save changes to an edited Distribution List- I select the desired email address (ie it's in bold) and then click OK. When I go back to edit the list the changes have not been saved and it seems to randomly make changes to the selections.
    2 - I have a (Smart) Group in Address Book and when I use that group in Mail the wrong email is selected for some of the members of the group - ie the emails used by Mail does not always match the selections in the Distribution List
    Used to work fine in 10.5

    Oh no!
    until now I though, it was my fault, but it seems to be a bug. I have the same problem with the distribution list. In my system, the mails are allways sent to the upper emailadress, even if the lower adress is highlighted.
    Did anybody file allready a bug-report to apple?
    Regards

  • Address book shows separate list preceded by an

    My address cards in address book show two separate groups. They are in alphabetical order. How do I merge them into one group? The +merge group+ selection in addressbook menu is greyed out.
    I am also getting duplicate cards being created in my mobileme sync address book. And I don't know how to stop it from happening.
    Sorry if these topics have been already discussed but I did a search under AddressBook and could not find any previous discussions about these.

    I solved this problem. I had to manually retype cards that were in the list after the " # "symbol into the main stack. Once that was done, I highlighted all the cards in the group after the " # ">Edit>Delete.
    This left all my cards now in one stack, which I could now Archive.
    In case you are wondering, I tried to highlight the unwanted cards and Merge with other group. Merge would work but did not remove the secondary list. It also created duplicate cards in MobileMe after syncing. Only the above method formed only one card stack and removed the unwanted one.

  • Address book to Appleworks list transfer problems

    I am trying to export a list of address book entries into either a spreadsheet or the Address List assistant (in Appleworks). I tried saving the address book entries as a vcard group and then open that in the spreadsheet but didn't work, vcards are not in appleworks format and would not open. I tried dragging entries one by one but that didnt work either. Any suggestions?

    Look at the Appleworks & Address Book thread, which could also be located about 4-5 entries down from where you posted yours.

  • Address Book Global Field Changes

    Is there any way to make changes to a specific field in Address Book for several cards?
    I have a distribution list of close to 700 cards, and I need to change the 'Job Title' field for each one of these cards.
    I can't seem to find a 'find and replace' in Edit. There is the command-E for 'use selection for find', but I can't figure out how that works.
    Thanks

    Thanks ...  What a mess !
    I have migrated to Lion !!   Did I do the good thing ?  Not realy sure ... Before migrating, I was almost sure that I was better off not doing it.  I still have this impression ...  I feel that Apple has tried to reinvent something that was not broken.  I understand the unifying Mac OS and iOS is a good idea, but I don't think that it is necessary to trash what was already good.  Take for exemple the Address Book.  The new book metaphor is not intuitive. Digital data manages many levels of information at a time, while physical books manage only a few.
    Previously Address Book showed Group names, contacts names and contact details.  Now to see all of this you have to turn physical pages.  This is going backward and complicating things.
    The problem Apple will face is with it's growing user population, it will begin having Microsoft's problem:  satisfy to many types of customers.  This path will probably normalize by the bottom, meaning that the final product will have to be appealling to many not necessarelty to be genial.  To be genial, has been Apple's flagship and what has made it the best.
    Physical books have physical limitation.  Computers can display many level of data simultaneously.  Replicating a physical book is not a good idea, if it is not augmented to computer reality.
    Where is my good old fashion OS X Address Book ?  Is Lion really an upgrade or a downgrade ?  And now Moutain Lion is coming !!
