Output from script task to cmd prompt

Hi,
I have a SISS package that has script task in it.
I'm exeuting the package in the command prompt using the following command.
DTEXEC.EXE /F "C:\Documents and Settings\Devuser\Desktop\Deployment\Package.dtsx" /set \package.variables[filepath].Value;"C:\\Documents and Settings\\Devuser\\Desktop\\Release-Deployment\\release\\"
It is sucessfully executed and the following is displayed in the command prompt screen.
DTExec : The package execution returned DTDER_SUCESS <0>
However, i would like to show cusom message. Is it possible to show custom message string returned by the script task?
Please assist me.
Thanks,
Venkat.
Best Regards, Venkat

No, I haven't tried events.
Could you please point me some tutorials or urls where i can get information?
Thanks,
Venkat.
Best Regards, Venkat
Click on the
link in the previous reply. With for example Dts.Events.FireWarning(.......) you can create a warning with a custom text in it.

  • Output in Texpad rather than CMD prompt

    I know there is a way to get textpad to output in textpad rather than command prompt.
    Its some setting in textpad that i need to turn on. Where do i go in textpad to do this?
    It is because i have to copy and paste my output to my teacher and i can't do that in command prompt. Also dr. java is not working on this computer.
    Thanks a million,
    -Alex

    A question about TextPad should be asked on a TextPad forum. http://forums.textpad.com/index.php
    As an aside though you can in fact copy and paste things from a cmd window. You have to do the following.
    - right click on the window
    - select Mark
    - select all the text you want (left click your mouse hold the button and drag)
    - right click on the window bar for the window and select edit -> Copy (or CTRL-C)
    - then paste

  • Wierd pixelated output from scripted pattern fill

    Hey guys,
    so I've got a problem with Photoshop CC 2014 on Mac OSX 10.9.4  - everytime I try to use the scripted pattern fill I get this really wierd pixelated output from it, rather than a pattern.  This happens whether I'm using the new tree generator, or just a regular scripted pattern - like the random fill.   I've included a screengrab here of what it looks like.  It doesn't matter what settings I use for the fill, but everytime I use it I get this.  It's really wierd, not to mention slowing me down on a couple of jobs I've got on too >_<
    Any ideas?  Has anyone come across anything like this before?
    Thanks in advance!

    I'm not seeing that on Windows

    I have a SSIS package with a script task, I get
    the following error when i try to run it in my local system. It works fine for my collegues as well as in production. However, I am not able to run it locally, to test. I keep a debug point in the main method, but it is never reached, I get the error before

    @Hariprasadbrk
    Do you mean you have use process class to start "cmd prompt" And want to display some output in it?
    If so, there is no need to use RedirectStandardOutput property. This property means the output of an application is written to the
    Process.StandardOutput stream.
    // Setup the process with the ProcessStartInfo class.
    ProcessStartInfo start = new ProcessStartInfo();
    start.FileName = @"C:\7za.exe"; // Specify exe name not cmd exe.
    start.UseShellExecute = false;
    start.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
    // Start the process.
    using (Process process = Process.Start(start))
    // Read in all the text from the process with the StreamReader.
    using (StreamReader reader = process.StandardOutput)
    string result = reader.ReadToEnd();
    Console.Write(result);
    Output
    This section shows the output of the process.

  • Process.Start - getting different output when running command using this method than I am if I run same command in CMD prompt

    Hi
    Creating an application to analyze .dmp files - all working well except this odd issue
    If I open command prompt and enter this command:-
    kd -z C:\Windows\MiniDump\042414-24632-01.dmp -c "!analyze -v"
    Then it works and shows me all the output I need (shown at bottom of post)
    If I run same command in VB.net using following code - then it doesn't give the same output - the bits I need at the end created by the !analyze -v switch don't appear
    Any ideas why it is not seeing the switch correctly - setting a breakpoint and checking contents of startinfo seems to be showing correct cmd line i.e. "kd -z C:\windows\minidump\042414-24632-01.dmp -c "!analyze –v;q""
    Dim myprocess As New Process()
    myprocess.StartInfo.FileName = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Debuggers\x86\kd"
    myprocess.StartInfo.Arguments = "-z C:\windows\minidump\042414-24632-01.dmp -c ""!analyze –v;q"""
    myprocess.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False
    myprocess.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True
    myprocess.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True
    myprocess.Start()
    TextBox1.AppendText(myprocess.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd())
    Output when run from cmd prompt:-
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Debuggers\x86>kd -z C:\Windows\MiniDump\042414-24632-01.dmp -c "!analyze -v;q"

    Try it by opening the Cmd prompt as the actual process and passing the Filename and its arguments as the arguments of the Cmd process.  If you notice there is a "-C" before the Filename and Arguments in this example.  The "-C"
    tells the cmd to execute the commands and then close itself.  You can also use a "-K" which tells the cmd to execute the commands and keep itself open.  Being you are not showing the cmd window you don`t want to keep it opened because the
    user can`t close it so, that is why i used "-C".
     I don`t have the program so, you can just experiment to see what it does.  Maybe you should try using "-K" and show the cmd window by commenting out the CreateNoWindow line so you can see what is in the cmd window while testing.

    .RedirectStandardOutput = True

  • Getting the output from a Perl script using Runtime.exec

    I cannot get the output from a perl script using Java. Can someone PLEASE help?
    I used the following code:
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("C:\\Perl\\bin\\Perl.exe script.pl) ;
    InputSream in = p.getInputStream();
    b...
    do
    System.out.println(b);
    while ((b = in.read()) > 0)
    But there is no way that I get the output in the inputstream. If I use the command "cmd script.pl", the output is displayed in the Dos box, but also not in the inputstream.
    I will appreciate any help.

    Try this
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("C:\\Perl\\bin\\Perl.exe script.pl) ;
    BufferedReader rd = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
    String str;
    while((str=rd.readLine())!=null){
    System.out.println(str);

  • SSIS PACKAGE MIGRATION FROM 2005 to 2008 - Script task/component errors

    HI All,
    We have to migrate ssis packages (about 300) from ssis 2005 to 2008 .
    1. I understand that the major concern is regarding the script component/tasks.
    I searched a lot about this and also consulted with many friends , all of them are aware of this issue but not able to provide what could be the issues and the solution.
    Can some one help me with the common script issues that can happen during migration and the solution for the same.
     2. I do have one more question.
    As per my understanding given in the below link
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mattm/archive/2008/03/21/package-upgrade-wizard.aspx
    there is this part which says ...
    Once the packages have been chosen, the next page asks you to pick the output location. This can be:
    Same as the source location
    File System
    SSIS Service (Package Store)
    SQL Server
    Does this mean I can deploy in sql server directly on fly while upgrading ?
    Any help highly appreciated .
    Regards
    Praveen..

    Hi Praveen,
    Question 1: The error may occur if there are duplicate input columns in the Script Task/Component or the current user cannot access the C:\Windows\Temp directory. Except for the link provided by SanBhaumik, you can also refer to the following
    threads:
    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic811208-148-1.aspx
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/5c11eb57-59d6-4f81-bfdc-13bd6489a0ac/sql-server-2008-ssis-package-script-component-error?forum=sqlintegrationservices
    Question 2: We can directly save the package to the File System, SSIS Package Store, or SQL Server by selecting the proper destination during the package upgrade. However, this operation is not equal to the package install operation identically.
    For example, if we have enabled package configurations for a package, the package configurations won’t be upgraded or installed during the package upgrade.

  • Calling a restful web service from a script task

    Hi.  I'm weak in c# but am looking to accomplish this...
    I want to call a RESTful web service from an ssis script task.  I don't want to create a web service so I'm hoping there is some publicly available one I can practice with before our web team provides me with the service I'll eventually use.  Can
    the community provide an example?  I wish I had more but my knowledge is very limited except for using ssis in more sql centric apps.  It would be great if I could exercise both a get and put verb but I understand i'll be lucky if I can even get
    a get to work.
    Here is an example of a get I found on the web but I don't know if its a viable candidate for me to practice with from my package...
    using System;
    using System.IO;
    using System.Net;
    using System.Text;
    // Create the web request
    HttpWebRequest request = WebRequest.Create("http://developer.yahoo.com/") as HttpWebRequest;
    // Get response
    using (HttpWebResponse response = request.GetResponse() as HttpWebResponse)
    // Get the response stream
    StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream());
    // Console application output
    Console.WriteLine(reader.ReadToEnd());
    and in the same article an example of a put ...
    // We use the HttpUtility class from the System.Web namespace
    using System.Web;
    Uri address = new Uri("http://api.search.yahoo.com/ContentAnalysisService/V1/termExtraction");
    // Create the web request
    HttpWebRequest request = WebRequest.Create(address) as HttpWebRequest;
    // Set type to POST
    request.Method = "POST";
    request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded";
    // Create the data we want to send
    string appId = "YahooDemo";
    string context = "Italian sculptors and painters of the renaissance"
    + "favored the Virgin Mary for inspiration";
    string query = "madonna";
    StringBuilder data = new StringBuilder();
    data.Append("appid=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(appId));
    data.Append("&context=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(context));
    data.Append("&query=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(query));
    // Create a byte array of the data we want to send
    byte[] byteData = UTF8Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(data.ToString());
    // Set the content length in the request headers
    request.ContentLength = byteData.Length;
    // Write data
    using (Stream postStream = request.GetRequestStream())
    postStream.Write(byteData, 0, byteData.Length);
    // Get response
    using (HttpWebResponse response = request.GetResponse() as HttpWebResponse)
    // Get the response stream
    StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream());
    // Console application output
    Console.WriteLine(reader.ReadToEnd());

    Hi
    db042190,
    These kinds of operations are commonly found outside the SSIS section of the forum, you just need to "borrow" the code and wrap into the Script Task. And based on what you see you are on the right tracks.
    One thing you need to be aware of: in production such RESTfull call usually lead to a fiasco for the machine residing in some kind of DMZ or Firewall rules prohibiting these methods or you need a proxy account to run the package and you face unbeggable admins
    who resist to relaxing security.
    My suggestion is to go the easy route: write the app up as a console, standalone app - it will be easier to debug and there will be complete examples of them in abundance on the web.

  • Script Task output in Chinese???

    I added some error logging to my package and now my script task output looks like Chinese. This is not the error file I set up for the error logging but another text file that I was sending
    results too.  Next I took out the logging stuff and it still was not working right. So… I created a new project and imported my package into that and it is still spitting out what looks like Chinese. I looked at all the properties on each
    task and verified that the LocaleID is set to English (United States).  When I delete the text file I am send my data too and have it create while the package runs it comes out in English. It seems to work ok now but I am wondering why that
    happened in the first place and if this is something that will happen again when in production. What I can do to prevent it from happening again.
    tks!
    Reach for the unknown!

    1st time I see this happening, I think there is no need to panic.
    The code page/encoding chosen for the log file was incorrect looks like. And perhaps this is due to the the computer locale being temporary incorrect (or still not).

  • Difference of output from cron job & shell prompt

    We have a script in production like:
    sqlplus -s <username>/<password><<EOF
    set head off
    set feedback off
    set numwidth 4
    set serveroutput off
    spool /tmp/test1.txt
    prompt column1 , column2
    select column1||' , '|| column2 from <table> where <condition>;
    spool off;
    EOF
    echo "Best Regards," >> /tmp/test1.txt
    echo "IT Team" >> /tmp/test1.txt
    When run one time from the shell prompt, it gives the correct value like-
    column1, column2
    <column-1>, <column-2>
    Best Regards
    IT Team
    But when I run it from a cron job twice the output is like-
    column1, column2
    <column-1>, <column-2>
    Best Regards
    IT Team
    Best Regards
    IT Team
    The problem in the above output is that the bottom 2 statements,
    Best Regards
    IT Team
    keep getting repeated the number of times when the cron job is run. If the cron job is run 3 times the set of 2 statements get repeated thrice.
    I hope, I have been able to explain the problem.
    Requesting a reply to my query.

  • Output from same script on two different platforms produce different outputs.

    I'm running a command prompt script on two different platforms (Windows 7 desktop and a Microsoft Server 2008 R2 Enterprise platform) and the output the script produces is different on each platform.
     Specifically; the script is
           For /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /t') do (set mydate=%%c-%%a-%%b)
           For /f "tokens=1-2 delims=/:" %%a in ('time /t') do (set mytime=%%a%%b)
           echo %mydate%>> log.txt
           echo %mytime%>> log.txt
    and the output from the Windows 7 desktop is:
           2014-07-31

    While the output from the 2008 server is:
           ECHO is on.

    Hi Dave,
    There's some very good learning resources here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/scriptcenter/dd793612.aspx
    Also, there's a script repository full of examples you can learn from and tweak to meet your needs here:
    http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter
    As an additional suggestion, I'd highly recommend upgrading PowerShell on Win7 and WS2008R2 to v4. v2 was okay, but v4 makes life much easier (make sure you read the system requirements first though, there's still a few incompatibilities):

  • Running SFTP from script but Task Scheduler does not like part of it.

    Hello,
    I am trying to do some (not so) simple file copying using SFTP in this manner:
     1) Map a drive to the destination, the SFTP program will not accept UNC paths
     2) Use SFTP to copy the files to the target Server
     3) Write a Timestamped entry to a log file
     4) Remove the source files after copy
     5) Remove the drive mapping
    Everything works but Step two and that only fails running from the Task Scheduler (W2K8 R2).  Running from the command line directly in PowerShell or using the Run box works fine all the way.
    The sftp program is BitVise SSH Client using their log utility.  The makes the command line very complicated.
    The line I use in the Scheduler is powershell "D:\Scripts\SFTP_TPCCommission.ps1" Dev  I have also tried using the -command parameter.  Again, it only does not work in the scheduler.
    Here is how I invoke it:
    $CmdLine = "`"D:\\Program Files (x86)\\Bitvise SSH Client\\logs\\`" sftpc " + $Server + " -pk=1 -cmd=`"put -o -lf Z:\" + $File + " /TPCCommissions`""
    & log ($CmdLine)
    I have also tried a Here String to do the same thing.  It works the same way.
    $ArgText = @"
    "D:\\Program Files (x86)\\Bitvise SSH Client\\logs\\" sftpc $Server -pk=1 -cmd="put -o -lf Z:\$File /TPCCommissions"
    Any ideas?

    In a batch file or at the command (not PS) line the command structure looks like this:
    log "D:\\Program Files (x86)\\Bitvise SSH Client\\logs\\" sftpc <user@server> -pk=1 -cmd="put -o -lf Z:\<Source> /<Destination>"
    The double slashes are requirement of the log program which calls the sftpc program with its command structure.
    The double-quoted section after "-cmd=" is required.  The Z: drive is mapped because the SFTP program does not support UNC paths. (Stupid, but that is all I have to work with.
    What you see in my post is just the part giving me trouble.  I am using PS to keep track of what I am copying to the destination and removing from the source and creating a timestamped log of that activity.
    As to the comment about Task Scheduler, I am using it.  Like I said, it all works fine from anywhere but the Task Scheduler.
