Output of video to a smaller file

Hi all
I am a composer, and do not own FC. The short film I am scoring is 30 min in length, and the PE is working in FCP. The file she outputs is approx. 7 GB in size. I am trying to get her to op a smaller file - one that is under 1 GB, so she can send it to me via yousendit, or something similiar.
There +has to+ be a way to create a smaller file when the op is done. I am thinking lower res, lower bitrate - something. Understandably, the quality will be decreased, but that is ok - I can work with a file that is of lesser quality.
Can someone please tell me what I should tell her to do to op a smaller file? In the prefs, in the op dial box...there must be a setting somewhere.
Any help will be appreciated - thank you!

H.264 - with a TC burn in.
If the original file dimensions will not get you a 1 GB size, scale them down to 1/2 size.

    We will customize a very detailed reply, but
    (a) What are the properties of your source media?
    (b) What did you or the program set as the project preset to match the properties of the source media?
    (c) What specific requirements do you have for this H.264.mov export file?
    File size can be a compromise between bitrate, file size, and quality.
    Thanks.

  • Editing in DSLR 1920x1080 23.976fps.. way to make output smaller file?

    So I opened up a project under "DSLR" for 1920x1080 23.976fps 16:9 etc.
    All my edits are done and the end goal is to produce a short video to upload to Dropbox.
    I tried to export onto the computer under "Quicktime" and then MPEG4 preset, matching all my output frame rate, size, etc to the source. I've heard that not matching output and source is a major no-no?
    Now the output Quicktime MPEG-4 Visual is looking great, it's just HUGE for a 2 minute video, over 1 GB.
    Are there any settings or ways to convert to a smaller file without any loss of quality or at least an "acceptable" amount of quality loss?
    You guys are the best.
    Thanks,

    What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system are you running it?
    There are many factors that impact your video file size including frame size, frame rate, as well as durationXbitrate, video compression and audio compression to name a few.
    Do you have more than the 2 GB free space from Dropbox? And, what is the file size and duration and bitrate of the video clip that you are importing into Premiere Elements for editing? How much of a drop in file size are you looking for between the import into and export from Premiere Elements? What are the requirements for max file size for a single upload to Dropbox and what are the Dropbox supported video and audio formats?
    Given that you have 1920 x 1080 @ 24 progressive frames per second footage and assumed that you have imported into Premiere Elements X using the project preset
    NTSC or PAL
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p24
    and you are ready to export to a file for upload to Drop Box.
    If you are using Premiere Elements 11 Windows consider for starter:
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    and explore the use of the presets
    a. MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p24, as is, and with settings adjustments under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset.
    b. MP4 - 720p24
    The Windows Media export will probably give you the smaller file size if needed. Export settings under the Advanced Button/Video tab of a preset should be looked even if the Presets: default does not look applicable to your situation.
    Please review and then let us know how we can help further.
    Thanks.

  • How do I end video so its a small file, and not 15 minutes of black screen?

    How do I end the video? Meaning - I want to do a very short video for my website, only about 15 seconds long, but when I finish editing, hit Share, put it into a quicktime web format, what comes out is 15 seconds of my video, and then about 15 minutes of just black screen - which makes the file HUGE. I just wnat a short, small file. So...what do I do to end it on the short side?

    Hi
    How did You edit Your movie:
    Can it be so that You added audio/sound that is about 15min.
    Then click so that You see the three audio tracks.
    Select the audio that reach out to the right from where the video ends (track 2 or 3)
    Put the playhead on the end of the video clips (track1 end)
    Now select audio on track 2 or 3
    cmd-T will cut the audio
    click elsewhere and then select the audio that reach out to the right
    delete or cmd-X
    alt.
    Select what you'll want in the movie
    Go to Export as QuickTime and select "selected cips"
    Now You'll get a QT.mov that should only cont. what You want.

  • What's the best settings to Export movie for smaller file sizes?

    Hi, I've been working on some helmet cam footage which was taken with Xvidmpeg4.avi and was advised to convert it to dvavi for editing in PrE, this created a huge file to work with, the original footage was 206mb and the finished edited dvavi file is now 1.56gb, what settings can I use to export the movie with a much smaller file size, but hopefully try to retain some quality, to upload to places like Vimeo? I thought I would try to export it in the same as the original footage Xvidmpeg4.avi thinking this might compress it again to something like the 206mb of the original and the original was good quality footage, but PrE just hangs up with a box stating 'Xvid Status (Not Responding)' and when I try to cancel that the whole thing crashes and closes? So when I go to File > Export > Movie, what would be the best settings in:
    General > File Type ?
    Video > Compressor
    lots of options under compressor if I select the file type as Microsoft AVI, so I'm guessing something under that would compress it to a smaller file size but what, I could spend all night trying different settings so hoping for some advice?
    Or, if I'm completely in the wrong place for the settings and should be doing something else please tell me?
    Thanks, Gav

    Thanks for the replies, but to me it's still confusing - simply because there are so many settings, if I go to Share/Personal Computer I'm then presented with a whole load of settings
    NTSC Flash Video
    MPEG
    DVAVI
    Windows Media
    QuickTime
    and under each of those is a lot more advanced settings?
    I'm guessing I wouldn't use flash or quicktime, so which of the others would I use and what are the advanced settings to use as I can't find anything that is .wmv or .mov
    What I've done with other videos that I've exported from PrE as dvavi is then to put it through Windows Movie Maker, Publish Movie, This Computer, then put the settings to Windows Media DVD Quality (PAL) (3.0 Mps) - this seemed to be the only setting that reduced the file size considerably but still had good quality, but it's still about twice the original file size?
    This all seems long winded to me, open original file, convert original file, output another file, then output the file again in something else which then results in loss of quality and a larger file than the original? I'm ending up with lots of files, was hoping just to edit in Premiere then export/publish that edited clip and that would be it, then upload to the net.
    Is it not possible to just edit my original footage and save it, just like you would with something like a word document, should I be using something else and not Premiere?
    Thanks.

  • Output 24pn video for television?

    Here is the situation. I’m working on a video which I shot 720p 24pn on my HVX200. I need to output the video onto tape to play on local TV channels (so I'm assuming i need to make the tape NTSC 29.97 interlaced, 720x480)
    I’m using fcp 5.1.4. My sequence is set to 'DVCPRO HD 720p60' with the frames per second set to 23.97.
    *This is my question- What is the best workflow step by step going from the 720p24pn timeline to a NTSC tape?*
    Can FCP add the pulldown to the 720p 24pn footage? Id so how do I do that? If not, do I need to use an external plugin like Graeme Nattress GAddPulldownDown to do the pulldown and then convert the frame size with compressor? Any other suggestions? Then do I bring that converted video file back into a FCP DV NTSC timeline and print to tape?
    I am not familiar with handling progressive footage and 24fps footage so any advice is much appreciated- I just want to make sure I do it right and it looks the best it can.
    Thanks

    Where in Montana? I lived half my life in Missoula, and went to college in Bozeman.
    You gotta talk to the channel as to what they will take. SD 29.97 NTSC doesn't say much at all. BetaSP, Digibeta, DV, DVCPRO 50, 3/4" Umatic, MII (they had MII at the PBS station in Bozeman...ugh). Don't figure on anything...ask them. Just because it is Montana doesn't mean it is completely backwards. I have no doubt they have beta and digibeta tapes. But, being as low cost as the TV stations must be, I'll wager that DV and DVCAM are more the norm.
    If you have a DVCPRO HD deck and you are ouputting DVCPRO HD, ONLY THOSE DECKS will remove the pulldown. And an HVX-200 isn't a DVCPRO HD tape mechanism, that is DV. You cannot downconvert from DVCPRO HD to DV via firewire, much less remove the pulldown, and just dropping a DVCPRO HD 23.98 clip into a DV timeline and rendering won't do it either. FCP is horrid at removing the pulldown. Find a deck and export, or export a self contained file and take it to someone with a Kona or Decklink card.
    Man, the faculty at MSU have approached me with the idea of teaching as an adjunct for a year. That is heavy on my mind...

  • How To Divide Source File Into Smaller Files Without Exporting?

    Hello Everyone,
    I'm a beginner with PPro CS4 and to video editing in general. I've done a lot of Googling and searching of these forums to get an answer to this question, but I haven't found a clear answer. Here's my problem:
    I have many hours of HDV footage shot over the past few years with a Canon HV30. This footage is on dozens of DV tape cassettes. I want to capture most of it to disk.
    When I capture a tape to disk, I get a single large mpeg4 file. (PPro captures all HDV footage to mpeg4.) "Scene select" doesn't work with the HV30, so my only other way to make smaller capture files would be to set In/Out points with batch capture. But this would mean hours of fast-forwarding and reversing with the VCR-like controls on the camera to review all the tapes and set the points. I thought it might be FASTER to simply capture an entire tape in one operation, THEN review the captured tape within PPro (it's much faster using the scrubber), and dividing that file into smaller files within PPro, thereby avoiding all the mechanical fast-forwarding and rewinding on the camera itself.
    But the only way I can find to do this seems to involve EXPORTING clips. Am I wrong to think that exporting a clip to a new file involves a degradation of the original mpeg4 source file? Or will there be no loss to the quality if I simply export to mpeg4 format?
    It seems there should be an easy way to simply divide the original capture into smaller source files for later editing, without putting the footage through another generation of processing (exporting), which might entail some loss of quality. Or am I wrong about this?
    (CS4 Master Suite, i7 3630k, 16GB RAM, C: 256GB SSD, D: 1T Setpoint F3, E: 1T Setpoint F3)

    HDV footage is mpeg2 (whats in a number ). CS4 does not do scene detect you need to use HDV split for that.
    http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm.
    You can run your already captured files through hdv split and it will chop the file into clips and off you go.

  • How to export in a small file size in FCP7 ?

    Hi,
    I'm filming with a GoPro camera on 720p 60fps.
    resulting files are MP4 files wich I convert to Apple ProRes files.
    Now when I want to export my movie, it has a VERY big file size..!
    Can anyone tell me how to export my movie in a smaller file size.
    It doesn't has to be the smallest file size, just small enough so I can upload it on the internet etc.
    Thanks very much,
    Yannick.

    Export a reference video (command-E, current settings and "self-contained" should not be marked.
    Then import to compressor, use one of the h.264 settings... Start with the LAN setting and go from there.

    How to save video messages to a file on Mac? Please, help. Thank you.Claire

    Claire, I use a Mac w/ the latest copy of Skype and it IS possible to first play the file and then download it.  Steps are available for it but it involves some technical wizardry that can be above some muggles.   Then I found a post where some some VERY bright person made a small downloaded program for the Mac which once the video message has been played recently, you can run this program and download the file for safe keeping ( ALWAYS BACKUP or store it in the cloud for safety )  Kudos are deserved to user alvarop for this! http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/Video-Message-Exporter-App/m-p/2351609 It worked for me to download a video message that I recently played back.  Let me know if you need any assistance getting it downloaded you can PM me on here and I'll be happy to help with a screenshare. Best Regards,-Shawn G

  • Need to Output 24P Video

    I am outputting a video that I cut in 24P and I want to open it up on to a new time line. I want the most uncompressed way of exporting and space is not an issue. Should I go with 8bit or 10bit uncompressed?
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks

    If you export an uncompressed file, you need to create a sequence that matches those settings. Choose an EASY SETUP that matches, then create a new sequence.
    But, again, we are ALL asking you, why are you doing this? I fail to see how exporting an uncompressed QT will help with soundtrack. Even exporting a self contained QT Movie (what you SHOULD be doing if you want a QT with no further compression)....why? All that will do is make your audio into a Stereo pair, and negate any sound mixing you can do in Soundtrack.
    Why do you assume that it is the fact that your footage is scattered on several drives is what is causing Soundtrack to crash? That doesn't sound right. Scattered media doesn't cause applications to crash...other things do, like corrupt preferences or bad permissions. If I were you, I'd pose this question in the SOUNDTRACK forum and ask for assistance.

  • Smaller File Sizes

    Ok so I had a HD 720p Movie which I made in Final Cut Pro, The video is 2 mins 45 seconds (ish) and has lots of Color editing and Motion editing and a bit of After Effects.
    I am Exporting it and it says 5 hours till it will be done :O
    How can I decrease this file size but maintain high quality.
    Any compressor tips or any app to download - It is being uploaded to zshare and I think it will be too big to upload :/
    Maybe when Exported, Open it in quicktime and save it as a smaller file?

    HD 720p...but what CODEC? HDV? XDCAM? DVCPRO HD?
    Did you fully render before you exported? If not, then FCP is rendering AS it exports, thus adding more time.
    What are you exporting AS? What codec? What size?
    Typically you fully render your sequence. Then export a self contained QT movie...using the sequence settings. Then take that result into COMPRESSOR and compress to the format you want. H.264 is a good choice.

  • Small file size, but still high quality?

    Hello, I am filming weddings for clients but I am unable to export them with a small enough file size so that they are able to see it on their slower computer. And it is a pain when it doesn't even fit on a dvd. These videos are somewhere around 2 hours long. I would also like to have them still HD. The only way I have been slightly succesful is to upload them to youtube then download them off again. Is there a way to do this? I have already tried H.264.  Thank you for your time!

    Use the Adobe Media Encoder and h.264. It's currently your best option for small file size and HQ playback. You should also use AME to encode for DVD. 2 hours will easily fit on a DVD. If you want HD then burn a BluRay. That format will also hold a nicely compressed 2 hr movie. It's done all the time. You just have to learn about encoding for distribution. The standard presets are very good.

  • Is possible to have audio output during video recording with Canon 70D?

    Hi everybody,
    I am owner of a Canon 70D camera and I use this to record video (live) jazz small groups.
    I use for this audio input either external microphones (Rode or AKG) or my Zoom H4n digital handy recorder which has inside microphones.
    I want to ask you if there is a solution to hear at the same time the audio output from my Canon 70D via earphones which is suitable for studio recordings.
    I hope to have a clear answer about this....

    You should check Magic lantern about this. I suppose the answer is no.

  • How to split a big file into several small files using XI

    Hi,
    Is there any way to split a huge file into small files using XI.
    Thanks
    Mukesh

    There is a how to guide for using file adapters, an "sdn search" will get you the document.
    Based on that , read a file into XI, Use strings to store the file content and do the split
    here is some code to get you started
    ===========
    Pseudocode:
    ===========
    // This can be passed in - however many output files to which the source is split
    numOutputFiles = 5;
    // Create the same number of filehandles as numOutputFiles specifies
    open file1, file2, file3, file4, file5;
    // Create an Array to hold the references to those filehandles
    Array[5] fileHandles = {file1, file2, file3, file5, file5};
    // Initialize a loop counter
    int loopCounter = 0;
    // a temporary holder to "point" the output stream to the correct output file
    File currentOutputFile = null;
    // loop through your input file
    while (sourceFile.nextLine != null)
    loopCounter++;
    if (loopCounter == (numOutputFiles +1) // you've reached 5, loop back
    loopCounter = 1;
    currentOutputFile = fileHandles[loopCounter]; // gets the output file at that index of the array
    currentOutputFile.write(sourceFile.nextLine);

  • Trying to make a VERY SMALL file

    I have a 52-second sequence I have created in FCP. I need to end up with an MPEG-1 file that is no larger than 2MB.
    After exporting from FCP (I've tried .mov and .wmv) and taking that file into Compressor, I cannot get the .mpg file smaller than about 4.6 megs.
    Any tips on how I can get this large file into a very small file? Quality isn't a concern at this point...it's all about the file size.
    Thanks in advance.

    There are three ways to decrease the file size of a video.
    1. Reduce the image size. For example, the change of a 720x480 DV image to a 320x240 will decrease the size by a factor of 4
    2. Reduce the frame rate. For example, changing from a 30 fps to 15 fps will decrease the size by a factor of 2
    3. Increase the compression/ change code. This is the black magic part of online material. Only you can decide what's good enough.
