Output to PDF in Unix from Reports 6i
I am having some trouble getting pdf output in the unix environment from Reports 6i.
If I kick off a defined report file (.rep) from the command line as follows:
rwrun60 testreport.rep destype=file desformat=pdf desname=testreport.pdf userid=connection_details
I get the following errors:
REP-0004: Warning: Unable to open user preference file.
REP-3300: Fatal error in toolkit.
UI-9: This function call is out of context
If I run the command without the file output options (rwrun60 testreport.rep userid=connection_details) then the report opens up on the screen correctly. From here, if I try to generate a pdf file, I get the following error:
REP-1800: Formatter error.
The report is defined as character type, and is a simple listing of approximately 50 records from a database table. There are no graphics or any pl/sql defined in the report.
Has anyone had similar problems in trying to do this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Nick
Dear Nick,
Just ensure a printer is configured. This can be done by typing in echo $PRINTER at the $Prompt.
If it returns null then configurea printer and i fell this should resolve your problem,
Since it did resolve my problem.

Bursting Program PDF Fonts different from Report Program PDF
We have designed a new XML Publisher report which uses bursting mecahnism to send out the output pdf to supplier. The report rdf completes successfully and generates the pdf with right fonts (Font Mapping configured in XML Publisher Administrator). AfterReport trigger of this report triggers the bursting program. This program sends out the pdf to the right recepients. But this pdf that comes through mail has different fonts then what it was in the output of first program. Can some one guide on how to get the same pdf fonts through bursting email file that is similar to the one that was generated through Report Program. Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
MohammadiAnyone who can throw light on this?

Empty PDF when printing from report
I have a number of reports where I want to be able to download the report as both CSV and PDF.
The CSV download works fine but the PDF only contains the headers, no data. The printer is set up otherwise I wouldn't be able to get a PDF at all.
Is there anything obvious I might have overlooked?
Thanks in advance.Hi,
We have the exact same problem with an interactive report in Apex 3.2. The CSV export works fine, but the PDF file only shows the header.
The problem only occurs when using a page item in the where clause. Is that a bug ? How can I fix this ?
Thanks

PAYABLES NOT GETTING THE REPORT OUTPUT IN PDF AFTER APPLYING RUP5 R12
Hi All,
RDBMS:10.2.0.3.0
Oracle Apps :12.0.4
OS:AIX 5.3
Problem Description:
We are presently facing an issue in Payables not getting the report output in PDF esp for the reports "Invoice Register", Invoice Hold Report and also other reports. We were able to generate the reports till our last test performed on last Thursday. This instance was cloned over the last weekend and probably the new upgrade to RUP5 R12,would have impacted it.
Concurrent Programs submitted are completed normal but on clicking "view output" results in Blank PDF output.
The error message what was shown is as below:
"Adobe Reader could not open 'AcrC.tmp' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)".
Where could we locate ther above 'AcrC.tmp' of Adobe Reader..
could anyone please share such an experience encountered for resolution..
Would appreciate an early response..
Thanks for your time!
Regards,I suggest you speak to your DBA/sysadmin. This is not likely to be a reports problem.
Check that you can see the output from apps through the viewer (the report may not hav output anything)
Check whether you can print anything on that printer from apps.
May also be worth checking to see if you can print to another printer from this report. -
Help: calling report from report in report 9i
Background:
1. Report Builder 9i and the outputs are PDF files;
2. Report A and Report B both have two identical parameters: P1 and P2;
3. Calling Report A through FORM using web.show_document() with paraform=YES,
Help:
If Report B can be called from Report A, the parameters P1, P2 passed through calling report A, the user then needs not to enter twice P1 and P2 using web.show_document().
Wishful way of thinking:
The Calling FORM refered here is the one that provides all buttons for more than 20 reports and that is the reason of using parameter form. Consequently, I am looking for ways of making:
Calling FORM -> REPORT A -> REPORT B
where both Report A and B have same parameters, calling FORM calls REPORT A using REPORT A parameter form and hoping that REPORT A can call REPORT B with these parameters.
Any help are greatly appreciated.
JimmyI tried something in Before Report trigger like:
function BeforeReport return boolean is
begin
srw.run_report('batch=yes sf1='||:pf1 || 'sf2='||:pf2 || ' report=REPORT_B destype=cache desformat=pdf');
return (TRUE);
end;
An error raised as: REP-1428: 'beforereport': Error while running SRW.RUN_REPORT.
Here sf1, pf1 and sf2, pf2 and two pairs of identical parameters.
Any suggestions? -
Regression testing on PDF output files from Reports?
My current client is looking to do more automated regression testing of the output (content) of their reports, most of which are output from Reports6i into Adobe Acrobat PDF file format. Is anyone currently using or aware of a tool (QARun, WinRunner, etc.) that will do this? (Most of the tools can do a binary comparison of the PDF files that were output, but we need something that will look into the PDF files themselves and tell us where any differences are found in the actual content (text) of the report itself.)
Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide!

Unable to view PDF output from Report Server
Help!
I have successfully setup CGI Report Server and can generate and view reports in IE5 as HTML repformat.
However when I try to generate output as PDF I do not get the report displayed. Instead I get a little acrobat icon displayed in the top left of the browser window.
When I click on the icon I get a IE5 message:
"There is no viewer available for the type of object you are trying to open....
Content Type: application/pdf"
...and then insists on taking me to Microsoft activex plugin page.
This is very stange as I DO have Adobe Acrobat Reader 4 installed and the plugin works ok when viewing PDF files on Oracle webpage.
Any suggestions on how to resolve are gratefully received!!
Regards,
Richard.You have run into an interesting problem. The problem is not with Reports. The problem is with Adobe. You can search Adobe's web site and they point to Microsoft (btw, this problem doesn't occur with netscape as the browser) Microsoft's web site point to Adobe.
The Problem is that the .ocx Adobe puts out for use with IE times out if the report take stoo long to start sending back data. We had report that worked and some that didn't. We took a report that worked and put a sleep command in it and when the sleep command got to 10 the report quit working.
My suggestion: move to netscape, make your reports as fast as absolutely possible.

CE10 Converting All reports output as PDF from A4 to US size paper.
I have created a number of reports which on Crystal are set as A4. These are then published to CE10 and set to output as PDF.
When they are previewed in History after being scheduled they appear as US size 11.68 x 8.26 in, and are thus cropped on bottom and righthand side.
Even when I preview the report on the Properties tab they are cropped to US size.
I have looked every where on the CE Admin page but can not see any where that a page size can be set. Is it something to do with how Acrobat has been set up on the CE server? Or have I missed something on the CE configuration.
We did not have a default printer on the server so we added one and that made no difference.
Acrobat is not installed on the server.
It looks like its something to do with the ActiveX conversion as the object is stored as a .cwr file and then ActiveX converts it to PDF, but in doing so changes size to US Paper rather than A4.
It must be somewhere in this code
http://srvcors08/crystal/enterprise10/admin/en/infoobject.cwr?action=-10005&cmd=view&id=603250&iid=617366&WCSID=12809936971026%2D2886740171%3A6401
But as I know nothing about ActiveX I can not see what is happening and even if I did I would not know where to start in changing it!
I know CE10 is no longer supported but there are no plans to upgrade, so other than making all my reports a bit smaller is there a solution to this?
IanHi Ian,
I moved your post to the BusinessObjects Legacy products forum.
Thank you

I followed the instructions from OTN "Rendering Oracle HTML DB Reports as PDFs Using Formatting Objects Processor". All installation steps have been performed.
After clicking on the "Output to PDF Document" link I get the following errormessage in a new browser window:
"The requested URL /htmldb_fop_render.jsp was not found on
this server."
I've changed the path in the htmldb_pdf.js file to:
var g_Render_URL = 'http://131.141.11.163:7777/htmldb_fop_render.jsp';
Any ideas?
Thanks for your helpDepending on your environment (I tried the following with AS 10g / J2EE); you should use http://131.141.11.163:7777/j2ee/htmldb_fop_render.jsp - note the additional j2ee.

Thanks for the reply.
In this I am using the FM 'CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF'. I have checked the settings from SPAD that is also same in both servers for particular output device. But the patches are diffrennt in both the servers, the server from which layout is not coming properly having the high level patches in compare to the other server(which is working fine). -
Hide URL in PDF output in hyperlink , Maintain History within reports
hi
i have some issues to discuss for report output in pdf format.
we are using java application to call reports via AS 10g, my issue are
1) Hide URL in PDF output for hyperlink created.(Using username/password in Key is not enough)
2) Maintain history as i call second report from my parent report then i want to go back to parent report.(Note here go.history or history.go(-1) work in HTML output format but not in PDF)
3)To Call Child PDF report in new window(here again working fine target="_blank" for HTML output but not for PDF)
regards
abidHi Ram,
Not sure if this is possible.
However, one workaround might be the following:
1. Write a javascript that submits the URL using, say a POST method, and does not show the parameters in the URL. You will have to write this javascript code in the "Before Report" Report Escape. For a generic example on how to use javascript in a report, see Metalink Note 125652.1. This note shows javascript to disable the right-click of the mouse on the report output.
2. Use the Hyperlink peroperty of the report to call this javascript function, eg,
javascript:myfunction('http://machine:port/reports/rwservlet?report=...+server=...+empno=&empno')
I am not a javascript expert, so I cannot give you an example of the function, but I hope someone in your team can find out.

Is there a way to merge 3 or more report output in PDF into one
Hi All,
I know about the report sectioning. I am wondering is there any other way to merge 3 or more report output in pdf form to a single document.
I have seen that there are many thrid party tools. Wondering is there anything from Oracle reports feature or any Oracle product for this?
Thank You
Rajesh ALexIf not changing the reports design, third party tools is the only options. AFAIK, there is no Oracle proprietary tool for merging PDF files..
