Over Achieving Screen Saver

I am running 10.4.5 on a PBG4 and frequently, no matter what I have the screen saver set to, off/3hours/whatever, it comes on after 10 seconds or so. This doesn't happen all the time just enough to drive me insane. It did it on 10.4.3 as well.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Scott

You have to like anything that over achieces.
This is a bit out there:
You of course set the energy saver to not go to sleep for the power adapter, but did you also set it not to go to sleep when running off the battery?
It may be that your power supply is an on again, off again one. It may think it is running off battery and start achieving.

  • Any terminal commands to allow certain apps to over ride screen saver?

I have always wondered if there are any terminal commands to over ride the screen saver when certain programs are running, such as slide shows and the current iTunes 10?

Those commands would just change various preferences settings. You might take a look at Caffeine.

I have 5 apple tvs and when the screen saver comes on after a minute or 2 an annoying prompt comes up covering part of the pictures on the screen saver prompting me on the use of airplay.  I want it "THE PROMPT" to go away and not come back any other day!   I own apple2s and apple3s  This interfers with the pictures on the screen saver

  • Mac OS 10.5.6 - Screen saver takes over while playing DVD.

Since I installed 10.5.6, when I am playing a DVD using the DVD Player, the screen saver takes over the display and I have to disable it in order to continue to see the DVD video. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I have just been disabling the screen saver by setting it to never. Kind of a pain.

    Hi Raingirl;
If you go to System Preferences > Desktop & Screensaver and set it to never, it will turn off the Screensaver forever. If you want the Screensaver back again later you must reset it again. I know this is a royal pain in the your-know-what but it is the best suggestion I have for now.
I did sent my thoughts on this to Apple via www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.htm
You to might try this. If enough of express our displeasure maybe they might see our point of view and change things so that the screensaver doesn't interrupt programs that don't require input.

  • Screen saver mode over-night; Snow Leopard

Can anyone discus the efficacy, if any, of allowing my Macbook (10.6.8) to go into screen saver mode over night?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There are maintenance scripts that are scheduled to run overnight daily, weekly, and monthly when the computer is awake. The computer remains awake when a screen-saver is running.
Shutting down the computer completely means that in 10.6.8 these scripts run when the Mac is re-started.
More details may be found here in the postings of the late James Pond a/k/a 'Pondini':
    http://pondini.org/OSX/Scripts.html
This discussion, while posted in the OS X 10.8 'Mountain Lion' thread might also shed further light on maintenance scripts:

  • Chinese Symbols over my iPhoto on screen saver

My screen saver is pictures that I have in my iPhoto. and all of the pictures that I have on iPhoto are fine. HOWEVER, When it goes to screen saver some of the pictures are covered with this odd chinese picture thing. A bunch of different odd digital looking pictures. Does anyone else have this? and what is it, and how do I get rid of it?

    Hi.
I have a very similar problem. It started around July 2010 possibly after I copied some photos from a relatives camera. I am wondering if some sort of virus was copied over. ( Could be a coincedence tho'.)
I am not currently running iphotos as I have lost the disc after a Hard disk re-format!
    Good Luck!

  • Flags pasted over screen saver

When my wife sets her screen saver to flip through a bunch of photos of the fam, a strange thing happens. Every other few images will display correctly, and then when a image is supposed to change, a blurry .gif looking international flag will appear over the photo. Very strange. I saw an Isralie and Mexican flag plastered over the photo. Has anyone ever seen this ?
Anything I can do to stop that? Thanks!

    ha.. never mind. Found it.

  • Screen saver images over pictures

I have a couple of questions. When my Mac goes to the screen saver mode it uses random photo's from iPhoto. Occasionally some design, maybe a smiley face, a heart, or something, will be over top of the photo. Any idea's as to how to get rid of these?
My other question is about the same screen saver mode. I have photos coming up that I have deleted from my albums but they still appear on the screen saver.
    Thanks for any help,
    Jim

I am having the same problem. So far, the superimposed flags and faces are endless.
I sure do hope there is a solution. This is not a new problem to the imac. In a google search, someone was describing this same thing a couple of years ago. Any help is appreciated!

  • I have iphoto 9 (version 8.1.2).  When I opened up iphoto it said that I had 0 pictures (it had over a 1,000) prior.  My screen saver was and has been set to a foler in iphoto and still displays the photos.  How do I retrieve my pictures?

When opening Iphoto (Iphoto 9 version 8.1.2) I went from hundreds of photos to 0.  I looked in my harddrive and could not locate the pictures under library or photos.  I tried rebuilding the system (ctl. alt. and opeing the program).  I would assume all my pictures are lost except for when my screen saver runs, I still see all of my old photos.  How can I retrieve my photos?

go in to finder than photos they should be somwhere in there. after you find them select add to iphoto

  • IPhoto Screen Saver with ghost images over teh top

I'm using iPhoto 5 and have the screen saver on my iMac G5 set to play out of my photo album. Just about every 10-15 phots get overlayed with a blurred image from some unknown source. They look like flags but always in a circular shape....not sure where they come from. Anyone else have this experience?

It is very weird, especially weird that two posters had that happen. I read in your other post about a long quitting time for iPhoto. I do know that my library of 3500 does take awhile to quit, but I have never had to force quit it. by the way, force quitting can damage a data file and cause the library not to open or show your photos.
I suggest you next do a rebuild.
    Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
    Close iPhoto
    Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.

  • Vista screen saver different on store Windows machine?

I was in Costco and playing with an HP Windows machine with Vista.
The bubbles screen saver shows bubbles on a black background.
My Vista in Boot Camp has bubbles over the existing screen. Why?
How do I get a black background?
Also all the windows quickly fade when closed or opened. Mine just open and close ... No fade. How do I get the fade?
    Thanks for looking ... Ken

It isn't like you need to use command console and REGEDIT.
Uninstalling graphics, and installing new drivers, boosted the score on my Nvidia 3DMark06 by 2000 pts. I hope you followed the other control panel settings.
I can think of lots of things that fall under the "maintenance" category in OS X that are necessary and harder to communicate. you know how to boot in Safe Mode, you can download a program, and you have no trouble using the control panel Programs to uninstall.
All I want is to see someone learn to get better use and enjoy using their system more fully.
    *Drive Sweeper*
Guru3D - Driver Sweeper is a fast tool to remove driver leftovers from your system. It's very important to remove your drivers on a proper way, because driver leftovers can cause problems like stability and startup problems. You can use it if you want to update/remove drivers from your system.
There are two methods to use Driver Sweeper.
Both methods achieve the same results.
This method is always able to clean all files.
This method will delete remaining files upon reboot (if deleting failed).
You can clean your drivers this way:
    * Use the official uninstaller(s) of the driver(s) you want to uninstall.
    * Reboot your PC in Safe Mode.
    * Run Driver Sweeper and select what to clean.
    * Analyse lists all the entries possible to remove, cleaning removes the entries selected.
    * More drivers can be selected for the same cleaning process.
*What can it be used for*
The current supported drivers are NVIDIA (Display and Chipset), ATI (Display), Creative (Sound) Realtek (Sound), Ageia (PhysX) and Microsoft (Mouse).
All the settings are saved in an ini file. Nothing is created in the registry, so it's possible to use it as a portable program. Log files can be saved to the harddisk and viewed as well. You can find the logs under the Tools menu.

  • Picasa collage style screen saver for MAC ?

Has anyone seen the screen saver that Google Picasa offers PC users that is called the Collage mode ?
What it does is when entering screen saver mode, instead of diplaying a traditional slide show with one pic after another, it begins this effect where the pictures start popping on - in a modified 4x6 aspect - and compositing over eachother in a random fashion thus creating a collage type effect.
    It looks way cool !
So far, I can only ascertain that this 'collage mode screen saver' is a PC only option.
Does anyone know if this can be achieved on a mac ??
If so - please do tell.
    Thanks
    DB

Picasa is not currently available on the Mac - contact Google for information about any possible plan to provide it
I am not aware of a screen save like that but search MacFixit, version tracker and Apple downloads to see if you can find one

  • What screen saver options are there?

I have 3 Apple TV's set up in my home.  What I want to know is there a way to have the screen saver work more like a picture frame showing one full screen photo at a time rather than the floating groups?  What are all the options you can use if anyone on these feature?  How can you select exactly what photos are displayed?

There are different screensaver themes, you can preview them by going into settings - screensaver. There is a small number of photos cached for the screensaver, there is no control over what order they are displayed.
