Overcharge Fees

<< Branched from an older discussion to a new topic for better exposure >>
I too have been overcharged $932 on our account this year after reviewing what we were billed then paid.  After contacting Verizon via telephone a customer service rep pulled up our account and said $300 worth were late charges but she couldn't account for the rest.  It looked to her as if we were overcharged between $600-$650.  My point was that is if we weren't overcharged the extra $932 then we probably wouldn't have accrued late charges of $300 but we agreed to the $600 credit via telephone.  She was supposed to call us back by now to confirm the credit but has not.  When we contacted Verizon tonight they had record of the phone calls and the credit request but this other rep said our account was correct and we had to pay that extra $932 with still no explanation of the additional charges (we have only ever used a 1/3 of our data plan each month, never been over on minutes and never been over on texting).  There is $608 due by the end of the month.  When that is paid, we would pay Verizon $4008 this year for 2 Droids and my 12 year old son's little 5 year old flip phone which we keep.  It's only used if he's elsewhere, he hates using a phone.  Like I said, never went over on data, text or minutes.  Is that specific enough?  It seems Verizon is accusing people of not telling the entire "story" on this thread and all I know is I'm not a liar, I'm broke.

I was being sarcastic, I guess I failed...I also agree more to the story  People if you need help finding out where your data is going and coming get a Peplink Balance Router.  You can view usage coming and going HOURLY, DAILY, MONTHLY, AND more important what computer or device is using it.  Then you can put a stop to it:

  • Cancelling contract due to Overcharges and NO RESOLUTION

I have been a Verizon customer on a plan with my mother for over 5 years now. I recently moved out of state and wanted to upgrade my phone to an Iphone before I moved. Because I was not an "authorized user" on the account (my Mother wanted to be the sole contact since we shared a plan) I was unable to make any changes myself, so my mother called in to authorize the data package plan and iphone purchase so that I may come in and pick it up without hassle. At that time it was SUGGESTED that we downgrade the text messaging package on my line as I was not nearing the usage alloted and it would save us money. My mother, not even knowing what a text message is and finding even her flip-phone difficult, agreed to this as it would save us money and would be the best option for us.
Fast forward a month and a half later, my mother forwards me our next two bills wondering why the two combined are nearly 250 dollars over what they should have been - the overcharges - extra fees for text messaging! She immediately goes into the store to remedy the situation. The initial clerk had switched me from a 5000/mo text message plan to a 500/mo text message plan, so this time the clerk offered to again switch me back - to what I was BEFORE the suggested switch. He then tells my mother there is nothing to be done about the overage charges but I "should be fine from here on out."
Thinking this is a case of poor customer service, I call the customer service hotline. After being transferred through multiple people, and ending up at the resolution center I thought I had finally made progress! The woman I spoke with agreed with me, and looked at my usage since I have been a customer and said - in her words - "I'm not sure why you were advised to downgrade your text message plan. You've never been under 500 messages. Ever." She then assured me she was going to remedy this. Her resolution? 20% off of the total of each bill - which equals out to be roughly 48 dollars, leaving me with a 200$ charge to front in addition to our normal usage.
This is incredibly poor, no, it is downright atrocious, customer service. I refuse to be part of a company where they do not take responsibility for problems they caused. I am livid that I am to be held accountable for a change suggested by a verizon clerk. When I mentioned this to the CUSTOMER SERVICE hotline I was told that I had ample opportunity to go online and look at my usage and figure out the best text messaging plan for me and that they cannot be held responsble for the difference. So, she's basically telling me that clerks are useless and to figure everything out on my own? What is the point of having customer service clerks in-store to "assist" you if I have to do everything myself?  There is no way had the clerk looked at the history of our account could he have not seen my average text message usages. The only options are either he did not look, or he did not think through his advising and clearly made a poor judgement call.My mother has since made me an authorized user on our account because we can't help but feel that they have taken advantage of her obvious incomprehension of anything cell-phone related.
I told the resolutions department that I was going to immediately look into switching to a different company. While at the time I do not think she took me seriously and only offered an insencere "sorry to hear that" I have since done such that and have found that I can not only save money by switching to sprint, but that I can also receive more (unlimited data and text along with additional minutes) for less! At this point, I would rather pay the ungodly contract cancellation amount than consider staying with a non-customer based phone company.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Was your issue resolved, and if so, how was it handled? I, of course, am telling everyone about this experience and am looking to receive as much information about what others have experiences as well.
    Thank you!

Did your mother give them permission to use your account history to make suggestions about your service during that particular phone call? If not, the rep may have violated the law. At any rate were I you, I would file a complaint with both the BBB, FTC, and also look into filing one with the new federal Consumer Finiancial Protection Bureau.
I am in the process of having my attorney draft a lengthy complaint against Verizon because of the 5 lines on our account 4 of them have had to have the phones replaced more than 30 times; my phone has been replaced 15 times in the last 13 months by Verizon's own count - my count is actually much higher. Last Friday, one of the reps I spoke with let it slip that Verizon slows down certain services on your line, i.e., internet connection speeds, download speeds, if your account is past due even just one day and the amount you owe is more than $29.99.  Additionally, a Tech Support Rep told me that the order for my replacement phone could not be processed because my account was "seriously delinquent" ( 8 days, of course it was more than $29.99 as we have 5 lines).  I spoke with a supervisor and she told me the same thing.  The saddest part is that just that morning my husband had made payment arrangements with Financial Services, but that didn't stop these reps from initially using scare tactics to try and make me pay my bill RIGHT THEN.
Verizon's overall customer service, quality of service, and image has taken a nose-dive since they got in bed with Apple; it doesn't even look like the same company it was.  I remember in the not too distant past that the one of the first things a Verizon Rep would do when a customer called in was to offer even a $5 discount on their bill just for the inconvenience of having to call in at all.  Now they treat you as if you are BOTHERING them just by calling; talk to you as if you are an annoyance.

  • Fees for services Question

I've been curious..When you pay for the unlimited data that means you can use your safari, and youtube as much as you possibly want for that $20.00 dollars a month?
Are there any fees for using the weather applications?...stock?...and most of all the maps application? i'm afraid i'll get overcharged for all this stuff that i don't know, i don't know. I heard of people getting $1,000 dollar bills and I dont want that...
Also what are Kilobytes and what do they apply to? And I heard something about paying for them?..whats that about. i'm not very tech savy at all..lets just face it i got an iphone because its an amazing device.
thanks in advance for any responses..i thought i'd ask on here instead of annoying the people at the store or on the phone.

The iPhone can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi which can require payment or can be free. Some restaurants, coffee shops, retailers provide a free Wi-Fi connection for their customers but some require payment for using their Wi-Fi connection. This is not part of the iPhone's unlimited data plan with AT&T via AT&T's EDGE network which is an internet connection over their cellular network. The $20/mo data plan which also includes 200 SMS (text messages) is truly unlimited - no additional charges when connected to AT&T's network in the U.S.
The $1,000 bills you are referring to is when roaming internationally in another country. AT&T's unlimited data plan applies when connected to AT&T's network in the U.S. only - not when roaming on another provider's network in another country.

  • Apple fees

Hi, i want to know if apple store charges money for free aplications in DPS?...i made a personal brochure in dps and this information will be important for me. What´s the fees in apple store?
    Thanks

If your app is free and all your content is free, Apple charges you only $99/year to be an Apple developer.

    Hi
As an architect I require the following in an application. Any developer can help.
    1) to maintain client database which includes a) under what category he/she comes under (residential, housing, commercial, etc)
    B) statement of requirements ( also recording could help)
    C) fee determination for such a project ( based on per square feet or square metre )
    D) auto sync this with all iOS devices
    2) project management with calendar which includes
    A) client requirements date
    B) project design time and presentation dates
    C) project construction process - reminders to process certain details required based logical requirements
    D) fees collection during the project - and accounting to maintain the total ( paid and balance )
    E) archiving the project report after the completion and again auto sync.

    Hi
Thanks. I do have numbers with me. And that is what I am currently using.
But is a part tool. I would need a dedicated application which will have a template, and keep using it extensively.
Any developer reading can make one. However thanks for the response. Thanks for wishing me.

  • AT&T service iPhone International Data Roaming - excessive fees

    For info:
I mailed below message to AT&T Customer care: [email protected]
Am sure for many international travelers this will be a nice customer service improvement.
Send them a mail as well. It may help all of us traveling overseas.
"I do have following concerns on AT&T's iPhone International Data roaming service.
I voiced them as well to your service center reps.
The feature is a nice useful service.
But I encountered a number of flaws:
    - Long time for service calls.
    - Misrepresentation of costs (overcharge of 150%), and
    - Resulting in excessive costs.
I am fully aware of all stories on international calls/data roaming with iPhone (ref suggestions on AT&T FAQ)
No need to fill me in on that.
    Here is what happened:
    - before a month of overseas travel (mid Dec - mid Jan), I had the service activated:
it took me 1/2 hr waiting at the phone before I got to speak a AT&T service rep.
    - I was told the service will be charged pro rata (ie days of usage) and for a month travel that would be 25 USD.
and I had to call back upon return to disactivate/cancel service.
    - Upon return I called back AT&T service center , again a long on hold waiting time,
and I was told I needed to wait for my next invoice statement to see the my completed overseas period on the bill, and could only cancel the service then.
    - This week I received this next statement, called back AT&T service center , again a long on hold waiting time,
and now I was told the service would be cancelled only as from this very day, and no retroactive cancellation.
I was told the reason is to allow bills from overseas carriers to be taken into account for the invoicing and the international feature.
In other words, if I had cancelled immediately upon return, overseas charges booked into my bill after my cancellation call (but incurred before) would be hitting me at full charge.
Thanks for doing so, but all this results in a 2.5 months service period for this feature, while I had only wished a 1 month service period and was told I would incur only a 1 month service charge !
    A number of suggestions,
    - make the feature true pro rata charges, now it is a misrepresentation and an excessive overcharge.
    - AT&T has a nice individual account profile online, why can one not activate/disactivate the service there ? Will be much faster.
    - or have the service activated with a separate credit card purchase/billing ?
Hey, and advertise it on iPhone/Apple.
Loads of people who are traveling overseas will be interested ! "
    Cheers
    Tom

    DexGtr,
If you go to Settings -> Network, there is an option to turn off data roaming.
However, if she hasn't updated her firmware since she purchased it that option may not be available.
iPhone Firmware updates are downloaded via iTunes. Connected the iPhone to iTunes, and if it doesn't prompt you to update, then click on "Check for Updates" in the iPhone Summary tab.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Download fees for a single folio using a professional edition

    Hey guys,
we are releasing a free monthly online magazine in the coming month, at first we considered the single edition option because of its 0$ download fees. the down side was that it wouldn’t allow us to be available in the android market or on the IPhone.
my question is, is it true that i will not be charged for downloads if i only have one folio published using a professional account?
(note that we don’t have a problem un-publishing a previous issue to download a new one.)
another question, is DPS available to purchase from the middle east, if not can i use an offshore account to purchase it.
    Thanks in advance

    HI Bob,
Could you please elaborate on that? From the above, it would read that a professional subscription can publish several single folio apps, without incurring download fees from Adobe. Presumably with the one-off annual fee and, if I understand correctly, without paying multiple Single Edition fees.
    Thanks,
    Simon.

  • Overcharged and cannot seem to get it sorted

    Hi,
I hope somebody can help me!
In July 2010 I was overcharged on my BT Bill so I called to cancel my account and was told that I could have BT Broadband option 1 and BT anytime call package for £19 per month for 12 months if I stay with BT, I was assured the amount would under no circumstances go up. The call was recorded so I assume can still be listened to for proof. As this was a great offer I felt I couldn't refuse. Everything went well up until I got a call late December asking if I wanted to upgrade to BT Infinity. I was told I could have this for just £22 per month so I agreed. A couple of days later I got a letter saying I would pay £30 per month, so I called BT and asked to stay on the package I was on as I had changed my mind due to pricing. I was told this was no problem.
In January 2011 I was charged £43.50. This was sorted out and I was also credited an amount that had accumulated on my bill. I then noticed I was being charged for every call I made, so I called BT and was told that BT anytime for some reason was not applied to my account anymore. This was an error that BT made so it was all put right and I was credited for the calls and I was happy.
Then in february I have been charged £80.50 instead of £19!!! I also have my account £160.60 in debit. For some reason I have been charged a cancellation fee for Broadband option 1 when I have never cancelled it (I am using it now) and I was charged a cancellation fee for BT anytime which was never cancelled. I have also been told that as I was only paying £19 per month an amount has been accumulating on my account. So basically I dont get a discount as I pay for it in the end anyway. I was told if I keep it at £19 per month then every 3 months I will get a much bigger bill. To add to that I am now told I cannot have the £19 per month anymore.
I have called the cancellation department to find out how much it would cost to cancel as my contract is up in July to be told BT renewed my contract in January without my knowledge and so it will cost me £185.
OH MY GOD!! what a mess!! All down to errors made by BT. I spent over 2 hours on the phone to BT yesterday and this is still not resolved. I have had to cancel my regular payments to make sure I am not charged £80.50 again next month as I can't afford that much and why on earth would anybody pay that much for the lowest broadband package and calls anyway?
I am beyond frustrated. I have emailed a complaint asking for a manager to call me about this, but have had no response yet. I was put through to 3 managers yesterday and each time the line went dead when they came on the line.
I am so disheartened by BT and feel there is no way to get out of a very expensive trap I am in as I keep getting overcharged and my contract gets renewed without my knowledge. What can I do?

    Hi NikZak,
Welcome to the forum and thank you for posting. It does sound like a bit of a nightmare. I should be able to help you with this. Please could you drop me an email with your BT account details and a link to this thread? My email address can be found by clicking on my profile.

  • How can I tell if my iPad is about to overcharge?

How can I tell if my Ipad is about to overcharge?  I can I avoid overcharging it? Thanks!

There are no modern day consumer electronics that you can overcharge... they all have protection for this, i.e. they stop charging when full.  This may not be completely true for some really cheap Chinese knock-offs.

  • Overage Fees - Upgrade Plan and then change back for only $20 - and no change to contract?

I am on the Nationwide 700 minute family plan with two lines and finally on a month to month contract.  Just saw on my account that I am over my allowance by 67 minutes ($30.15) and I still have five days until my billing cycle ends.
I called VzWireless and the lady on the phone said that there is a way to minimize the overage expense this one time.  According to her, if I "upgrade" my voice plan to the 1400 minute plan before the 21st of the month I will end up not having to pay any overage fees on the peak hours (at least $30 as of writing this with five days to go) and would only have to pay the difference in plans which works out to be an extra $20.  She also said she could "future date" an order to move my plan back to my normal 700 minutes after the bill is issued on the 21st so that I would not have to maintain the more expensive plan.
Frankly, this sounds too good to be true -  I mean why wouldn't every Tom, Dick, and Harry that goes over on their minutes do this then?  Maybe I am the only person who has not figured this out?  The whole reason I am over on minutes this month is because I got caught in a Directv/U-Verse teaser scam and had to call each company's customer support lines and ended up on hold for hours!  Needless to say I am skeptical...
Is there any merit to this?  Is it true that I can change my plan without renewing to another two year contract?  Are there hidden fees? Can I trust Verizon?

    Yes, this is true.
You can change your plan to the 1400 minute plan prior to the end of your billing cycle. Just make sure that this change is "backdated" to the beginning of the billing cycle you are currently in, so that you have those 1400 minutes available to you for this entire cycle. You will then not go over your allowance.
After your current billing cycle ends, you can change your minute plan back to the 700 min plan.
I don't know if I would want the CS rep to do both changes at the same time, as this leads to more likely of a mixup which may impact you in a negative way. Might be better to do one at a time.
Edit: This practice has been around for awhile. Unlike you, several people who have this service pointed out just like to complain that Verizon should just do this without being asked so that they would never incur overages. Those same people would then just complain that their bill increased without them giving permission to increase their minute allowance.

  • What are the new pricing and fees for Cs6?

What will I be forced to pay to keep upgrading my Master Collection to the next version (Cs 6)? Can I still purchase Dvd's and install the software on my own computer or will I be forced to move to the non-safe cloud? Where my hardwork can be hacked and stolen! The cloud is worthless to many of us wishing to keep control over copyright and useage rights.I am guessing more people want to keep it the way it is and not shift control over to a hackable cloud. Nothing on the web is safe, so why shift everything over to the cloud and force many of your long time customers to pay monthly fees or the software locks us out. For over 25 years I have bought and paided for Adobe software, where is my monthly kickback for using your software? If this is the wave of the future I guess i have bought my last upgrade!

I think you misunderstand the cloud.
Nobody is going to force you to store your files there. It’s a part of the service that you can use or not use at your own discretion.
As for pricing, if you’re on CS5 or CS5.5 you will be able to buy an upgrade at reduced pricing and continue that route. If you’re on CS4 or earlier you’ll have three choices.
    1.       Pay full price for CS5
    2.       Move to Creative Cloud for whatever the subscription price is
    3.       Stay with what you have.
    Hope that helps,
    Bob

I am now currently studying in Switzerland and I would like to buy a macbook pro in USA. So may I ask how much for the shipping fees? Thanks a lot

I'm not so sure if it's possible that Apple ships internationally. Why not just look into getting one in your country that you live in?

  • There seems to be a lot of rumours at the moment that iPhone batteries are swelling and damaging phones because of being overcharged, is there any truth to this rumour?

My granddaughter has informed me (after having her iPhone 4 repaired, for a broken screen) that she was told by the repairer that charging a phone overnight every night will not only overcharge the battery (and reduce the life off the battery), but also can result in the battery swelling and breaking the screen and/or the back glass of the phone.
I have googled this question and observed that there are 50/50 remarks within a variety of blogs about this, (it seems there are a lot of rumours about overcharging) obviously there are some really silly responses to the "overcharging" theory, and some that do seem to almost come with some authority. Some say charging every night will definitely damage the battery, some say it will definitely not damage the battery.
I personally don't believe these rumours to be true, but thought it best to ask the experts, hence this question.
Please let me know if there is any truth to this rumour, so that I can reassure not only myself, but also my children and grandchildren, who are now scared of charging their phones.

What is true is that the vast majority of swelling/exploding/flaming batteries in iPhones that have been documented can be traced directly to botched repairs by unauthorized servicers or to counterfeit batteries sold on ebay and elsewhere.
Though any rechargable battery can fail, it is extremely unlikely in an unmodified, undamaged iPhone.  If your granddaughter had her phone repaired by anyone other than Apple, she is at more risk now of experiencing a catastrophic failure of the phone than she ever was.  She no longer has an iPhone. Apple will not service her phone at all if it was opened by a 3rd party.

  • Battling Skype for over a year on overcharges rela...

I have been battling Skype for over a year on overcharges related to my Skype telephone number subscription and frankly I am sick to death of the overcharges, inability to modify my subscription, the incompetence of the online chat tech support professionals and complete and utter unwillingness to respond to legitimate concerns about overcharges on my account and the need to have credit issued back to me and my account brought up to the subscription program I choose to purchase. Skype has absolutely NO CUSTOMER SERVICE whatsoever through email, bulletin boards, online chat and after over a dozens of tweets directed at twitter accounts Skype, Skypesupport and microsoft over many months with no replies, I am absolutely sick to death and disgusted with Skype and Microsoft, it's people and services. I demand that these problems be resolve, my account credited for the last two Skype number subscription charges and I be allowed to upgrade my Skype telephone number subscription to the extended subscription plan of my choosing and NOT BE FORCED INTO PURCHASING SUBSCRIPTION PLANS THAT I DO NOT WANT OR NEED! I expect someone from Skype to resolve this issue immediately, today, March 31, 2015, as I have been after Skype to correct these ongoing issues for a year to no avail.

    1. You have not been overcharged. On September 30th 2014 you ordered an Online Number, 3 month recurring subscription and were charged $18.00 which as I have already pointed out is correct. For the following 2 quarters you were charged the same amount.
    2. If you now wish to change the billing frequency to annual you need to cancel your Number at your account page [you won't lose your Number as it is reserved for you for 90 days]. Cancellation is effective on the renewal date of your current billing cycle.
    3. You can then repurchase the same Number using the annual billing option.
    4. Skype Numbers are not refundable so your proposal isn't possible.

  • Increase in fees

I received my latest bill and it's significantly higher than past bills. There was a recent change in service, which I didn't request, so why am I being charged? Also, this is my 4th bill after being charged the installation fees so my anticipation was that my fees would be lower, and they are higher than my first three bills. The "upgrade" was positioned as something free and something done because I'm a valued customer - but then to charge me??
Please explain how it's appropriate to charge a customer more for a service they didn't request. My monthly fees are now almost $50 more than I had budgeted or what was proposed when I signed up for this service.
Before calling Verizon and getting bounced to several different people, can someone explain to me how this can be fixed and my fees brought back down to normal. Please advise.
