Increase in fees

I received my latest bill and it's significantly higher than past bills. There was a recent change in service, which I didn't request, so why am I being charged? Also, this is my 4th bill after being charged the installation fees so my anticipation was that my fees would be lower, and they are higher than my first three bills. The "upgrade" was positioned as something free and something done because I'm a valued customer - but then to charge me??
Please explain how it's appropriate to charge a customer more for a service they didn't request. My monthly fees are now almost $50 more than I had budgeted or what was proposed when I signed up for this service.
Before calling Verizon and getting bounced to several different people, can someone explain to me how this can be fixed and my fees brought back down to normal. Please advise.

  • Comcast and its Billing and Payment system

Now I will start by saying... I am not happy at all with comcast.... and seeing as how I have been a customer since 2006; why would you treat you customers with such DISRESPECT and not take OWNERSHIP of any actions a customers experiences because of your company. I was told by one of your reps on Friday and I quote "JUST DISREGARD THAT" Here is what I was told to DISREGARD....... I checked my bank account to find this submitted to my bank..... which I did not initiate nor authorize.  I immediately called comcast and after waiting on hold about 15 minutes; only to be given a phone number to call supposedly COLLECTIONS .....by the first female rep.... that was inaccurate..... after waiting on hold about 10 minutes... and was given another 877 number ... and ended up calling comcast back again... the rep asked what I was calling about. I explained...... Why a payment was processed on my bank account for this amount... that I did not set-up. He proceeded to say.. I see that you have a payment set up for the 15th in an amount different from this... and I said that is correct. That is the only payment I set up... so why is this payment being processed on my account. He then asks.. where do I see it... I stated... ON MY BANK ACCOUNT.... I am sitting here looking at it.... HE SAYS "just disregard it" that is not in our system So you mean to tell me that a payment with your company name on it... that has OVERDRAWN my account should just be DISREGARDED...... and even if it was avaialable... I should just DISREGARD it..... despite the FACT that I did not INITIATE or AUTHORIZE this......As I see I was getting nowhere with this person.... I then asked him to search his system for the confirmation number...... he replies.... it is not in the system...... I ended the call with thanks for nothing and I will be searching for another carrier to obtain service from. I called my bank...... after about 3 or 4 transfers they finally credited the overdraft fee, reversed the charge from COMCAST... and restricted my account.... Now I have no money... no access to any money, can't make withdrawals, can't write a check, etc......any money I had to last me til my paycheck is LOCKED UP...because of this mess.....  THANKS ALOT COMCAST..... for taking OWNERSHIP ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ I have bee laid off since 2011 and just got a job a few weeks ago.... but have managed to scrape and scrounge to keep my service on so that I can WORK and earn a living...... and your REP tells me to just DISREGARD a payment for more than my past due coming through my bank account and overdrawing it... to the point where a FRAUD CLAIM had to be filed and my account LOCKED. The payment I set up on Monday with a female rep is the FIRST time I have ever... gave my bank information to comcast.... now you tell me what is going on..........? Then I wake up to this email TODAY! I have not REQUESTED or made any changes to my account.    AND where are my CREDITS for NONE WORKING services.... that caused me to have to release 3 days of WORK HOURS..... due to this NONE WORKING SERVICE that I struggle to pay every month. I was told I would be credited for the days my service wasn't working and that has not HAPPENED...... yet I get all of the above......... I would leave two choice words..... but that would just get this post DELETED... which it may anyway.......

I think we all need to send letter/emails to the FCC Federal Communications Commissionwww.fcc.gov/‎.  I must say Comcast is definitely the worse & doesn't care about their customers.  Approximately three days ago I went to pay my bill, after getting my paycheck. Signing into comcast,  I look on my account. The account showed no payments due.  So, I thought well I must have paid as sometimes I pay in advance.  Today I get a notice that states I am past due.  I wanted to send an email to billing as they are not available today (Sunday) but I wasn't able to find an email address. I got on Comcast chat & asked the rep for an email for a complaint to billing.  He told me to post it on forum. I asked again, don't you have an email for this?? And he told me once more to post on the forum.  NOW WHAT ABOUT THAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.  Not only that they are requiring you to have a digital adapter (box) when having basic cable & you have a HD TV just so they can charge you for the box & continue to raise the monthly charges/fees.  No matter how we try to keep our cost down on a limited budget, comcast finds a way to increase there fees.

Hi, Greensboro123, and welcome to the Community,
I am sorry that I am to be the one to advise that your claims directed at Skype are simply not true.  Credit card fraud is a serious problem in our world today.  We all pay for the thieves and their dishonesty with high interest rates, increased service fees, and other fees imposed upon cardholders.
You are wise to have cancelled the account straight away and to have reported the fraudulent charges to the issuer of your payment method.   You ought also to contact Skype Customer Service to report these incidents as well.  Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
As you know you must contact Customer Service, skip past Step 2 of the instruction and proceed to Step 3, Continue Support Request. You may also skip past in Step 4 where you will be referred back here to the Community; no need to do this as the Community is where you started.
Last and certainly not the least, change your Skype account password immediately if you have not already done so.

  • FiOS 1 News

New York City is the most populous city in the United States with over 8.3 million people.
Why don't we have Fios 1 News for NYC?
Why do I want to watch Long Island news, which does not pertain to me?
Cablevision has a different News 12 channel for each region.
Now with the rollout of the FiOS mobile app, the only news thats available is for Long Island.
    It just doesn't make sense

I agree with bklyn35. I live in Queens Village & I am literally 3 minutes from Elmont, Long Island and I don't have Fios 1 at all. With the constant increase in fees we should at least be able to have local TV. As for NY1.com I believe you have to be a cable customer to access it.

  • Big Increase in mthly bill - VZW changes terms to collect usage fees in advance

My bill spiked.   Looking at invoice, I noticed VZW now wants to bill me in ADVANCE.
I did not agree to this when I signed the contract.   Is this legal ?

Verizon, like most utilities, has always billed a month in advance.  The only thing about your "postpaid" service that is post paid is overages and special purchases like downloads, ringtones, etc.  If you go through your previous bills and look at the dates next to each charge, you'll see that the amount you pay for your calling plan and regular texting/data packages is always for the month ahead.

  • Please help - direct debit increased by 100%, canc...

    Dear all,
Any assistance with this problem would be massively appreciated. I'll try to keep this as simple as possible but as usual it's a long story.
We previously lived in rented property and used BT Infinity Option 2 with unlimited evening and weekend calls.
We have just purchased our first home and arranged to transfer the service with us. I was informed that there would be no fee to install a line as we had an existing contract. An appointment was made for an Openreach engineer to install infinity at the new address on October 10th, 8am - 1pm. Our service at the previous address was stopped from October 1st when we moved out/in.
Shortly before, I had an SMS message and a phonecall indicating a problem with the order. I rang and spoke to various people and it seemed that the problem was transferring the line from Sky (whom the previous owners had used). Eventually the gentleman at BT informed me that they would find a workaround and that everything should still be on for 10th October. I was also informed that we would not pay for broadband, line rental or calls for any downtime (i.e. 1st October to 10th if everything had stayed on track).
At 1.30 pm on 10th, I rang my partner (who had taken a day off work for the appointment). No engineer had visited. I logged onto 'My BT' and it said that a visit was no longer necessary as the line could be activated remotely. I considered that this could not be correct as from experience Infinity demanded a new faceplate and the fibre modem which we didn't have.
I then spent an hour on the phone trying to sort it out. The first staff member did not understand my point about the fibre installation. The second then informed me that there was a fault on the line and a new order was necessary (not reflected at all online). At this point I had completely pushed my lunch break to the limit and had to ask them to call my partner.
My first gripe is that after my partner took a valuable day off work nobody bothered to contact us to say that the visit was cancelled.
My partner informed me that a new appointment had been booked for 30th October. However, the order was to be expedited and we were due a phonecall on Friday 10th October to arrange a different and sooner appointment. The appointment for 30th now showed on 'My BT' under the orders section, replete with a £130 installation charge I was told we wouldn't have to pay.
Nobody called. We rang back on Saturday 13th and spent a long time on the phone to various departments, having to repeat security questions and tell our story over and over again. We eventually decided that we would simply like to cancel. The cancellation section then tried to scare me with cancellation charges and tranferred me to the orders department to try to speed things up and cancel.
At that point I was transferred to an orders section, somebody said 'hello' and then I was instantly on hold for 10 minutes (I hung up, slightly offended). I also spoke to a gentleman named Omar who completely failed to provide an explanation for the £130 charge but I left the call with the impression that he thought it was all my fault.
We decided that enough was enough now and we rang cancellations again. We actually spoke to a very helpful lady who informed us that cancellation would actually only cost circa £44 (much less than it would cost to stay!) and offered to waive the installation charge if we stayed. If all staff were as good as this person we may have considered it, but alas it was too little too late. The staff member cancelled our order and informed us we must wait 24 hours before the contract could be cancelled on the system so we would need to ring back.
On Monday 15th October, I managed to check my bank account (not easy without broadband) and found that my regular direct debit of £49 had gone out, but has been increased to £97.50! On My BT it states that £49 is adequate. Furthermore, my bill is in debit by approx £1.60 so what on earth can have happened to necessitate a nearly 100% increase? My first mortgage instalment is over two months' the usual payment and represents virtually my entire monthly wage so to lose £100 is actually quite financially devastating.
We have just finished cancelling our service. The staff were not able to adequately explain the direct debit or clarify when a refund will be paid and how much, and we have really lost the spirit to keep trying to resolve this through a call centre.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to effectively progress this as a complaint as the contact centre staff seem completely incapable of assisting with these problems. I consider that the following really needs to be accounted for:
    1. I need it confirming that the cancellation charges will be as stated and not more.
    2. I understand that cancellation fees are a pro-rata'd sum of the remaining months - we would have been without service for the entire month of October so I do not consider it fair that I should have to pay anything for October.
    3. I wish to get an explanation and apology for the large sum of money which has been taken from my bank account. Of course I fully expect that cancellation charges can be off set against this but it really isn't acceptable that this has happened in the first place and then no explanation given.
    4. Further to this, I need some money back! BT call centre staff were unable or unwilling to tell me when this will happen. I will shortly be paying overdraft fees and interest on this money; to be honest given all of the above I really feel BT should consider refunding me the entire £97.50 and waiving any cancellation fees, but realistically I know the chances of this happening are slim.
Thanks for any suggestions in advance,
    Chris

  • Overage Fees - Upgrade Plan and then change back for only $20 - and no change to contract?

I am on the Nationwide 700 minute family plan with two lines and finally on a month to month contract.  Just saw on my account that I am over my allowance by 67 minutes ($30.15) and I still have five days until my billing cycle ends.
I called VzWireless and the lady on the phone said that there is a way to minimize the overage expense this one time.  According to her, if I "upgrade" my voice plan to the 1400 minute plan before the 21st of the month I will end up not having to pay any overage fees on the peak hours (at least $30 as of writing this with five days to go) and would only have to pay the difference in plans which works out to be an extra $20.  She also said she could "future date" an order to move my plan back to my normal 700 minutes after the bill is issued on the 21st so that I would not have to maintain the more expensive plan.
Frankly, this sounds too good to be true -  I mean why wouldn't every Tom, Dick, and Harry that goes over on their minutes do this then?  Maybe I am the only person who has not figured this out?  The whole reason I am over on minutes this month is because I got caught in a Directv/U-Verse teaser scam and had to call each company's customer support lines and ended up on hold for hours!  Needless to say I am skeptical...
Is there any merit to this?  Is it true that I can change my plan without renewing to another two year contract?  Are there hidden fees? Can I trust Verizon?

    Yes, this is true.
You can change your plan to the 1400 minute plan prior to the end of your billing cycle. Just make sure that this change is "backdated" to the beginning of the billing cycle you are currently in, so that you have those 1400 minutes available to you for this entire cycle. You will then not go over your allowance.
After your current billing cycle ends, you can change your minute plan back to the 700 min plan.
I don't know if I would want the CS rep to do both changes at the same time, as this leads to more likely of a mixup which may impact you in a negative way. Might be better to do one at a time.
Edit: This practice has been around for awhile. Unlike you, several people who have this service pointed out just like to complain that Verizon should just do this without being asked so that they would never incur overages. Those same people would then just complain that their bill increased without them giving permission to increase their minute allowance.

  • Are you serious???Really??? $9 charge for $1 surprise increase in bill that was paid days later???

ATT has had for a long time ongoing "bill creep".  Now I get a $9 charge for a $1 surprise increase on monthly fee that I paid as soon as I discovered it!!!!  I had automatic payments set up on my bank account for the originally agreed upon monthly charges. This is just so wrong.  I will not waste an hour of my life (normal phone time whenever I have had to call ATT about anything in the past--also true of all my friends).  I will try my best to find another provider that will honor its original agreement about monthly charges and not charge outrageous fees for setting up its customers.   I left the home phone service a while back for "bill creep" (and am saving almost 90% on my bill) after being a customer for decades, so now I will leave Uverse for the same rotten reason as soon as I can find another provider. I truly HATE this company. Pat

So, you don't bother to check the monthly bill before the automatic payment is deducted? I seem to get an email each month listing the $ amt and when it is going to be charged to my CC.
Have to say it is on you for not doing that, not ATT for increasing your bill $1.  Generally bills increase in the Feb billing, not any other month.

  • Were people aware of a fee to renew your contract in addition to the bill and regular fees?

Just received my first bill after renewing my contract for another two years. Big mistake! I was stupid to think Verizon wanted to keep long standing loyal customers especially since the trend seems to be moving to prepay plans. I thought they would hold on to those of us locked into another two years but now they charge an additional 30 dollars just to renew your contract! I asked about it and could get no answer, just that they had been doing it about a year and a half now. Well this is the last time I will be locked in to a contract with them and these sneaky tactics. If they would at least be upfront about it and inform customers but they don't admit or inform anytime when its costing the customer money. I find it very deceiving and dishonest to just add fees without so much as an explanation. I am extremely disappointed, I thought Verizon was trying to increase customer satisfaction. I guess its naïve to think that way in this age.

Bobby, I'm not slamming you at all with this but just showing a different point of view. As far as using the upgrade fee to offset system upgrades etc... That is really a cost of doing business and is usually built into the base monthly fee we are charged because over the last 14 years or so, you have made many system upgrades, including the 3G network and now the 4G network and there was no fee in upgrading to 3G.  As far as the workshops go, I have been to two of them and walked out early on both as they were really not productive or for the most part accurate.  That said, some of the workshops I can see as being useful to new users of a smart phone etc...
Now don't get me wrong, Verizon can and will run their business the way they want to and if that includes passing the cost of the 4G infrastructure off to the end user, so be it, It then leaves the choice of carrier to the end user and most of us will remain with Verizon because of the service itself.
To the OP's point though, they are claiming that they were not aware of the fee and it was never disclosed to them which is an issue and also appears based on the way the fee was billed that it was a third party reseller and not a corp store. Verizon does a very good job of displaying the fee and it showing on any paperwork generated in the corp stores. They are not however that good at telling customers about it and try to dodge around it in most cases. Third party stores however do NOT always tell you about the fee so it is a surprise to the end user and then they go back to the third party and complain and are told it is something Verizon does or yes you will pay it now but Verizon will credit it back after 3 or 4 payments are made (which is not correct) etc...

  • IPhone purchase via Sprint & fees particular to Sprint for that purchase?

    Hi --
I hope it's appropriate to post this question here.  I suppose I could post it on the Sprint site as well, but folks on here, in my experience, generally know what's what.
I went through the checkout process to purchase an iPhone 4S via Sprint for $199 (it's the 16GB model).  So non-discounted cost is $649.
So, I realize one probably has to pay taxes on the non-discounted price.  But at checkout, Sprint had assessed taxes "and other related" fees & surcharges of $71.09, which is higher than the sales tax of CA State and LA City, even if one were being assessed tax on the $649 price.
Does anyone know if Apple's tax rate for purchase at a retail store is the same rate as Sprint's via the latter's website?
I ask because I dislike the idea of having any sort of "hidden" surcharges built into the price if such surcharges are being assessed by particular to Sprint that wouldn't be assesed by Apple.
I know the $199 price is the same via Apple but I'm not sure the "surcharges" would be.  Does anyone know?  If I can save a few bucks by avoiding a direct purchase by Sprint, I'm all for it.
    Thank you for your time,
    JC
PS.  I qualify for the upgrade with a 2 year increase in my contract.  It's a 4 phone business plan with all data and appears not to change should I change to the iPhone from my current Motorola, unless of course I want to pay an increased monthly fee to use the iPhone as a tethered device.

sprint has an upgrade fee, i believe it's currently $36, so that may be part of it.

  • Looking for a reason to stay with Verizon as my monthly plan cost has increased dramatically in the past year. Forced to change plan at last upgrade, and lines that used to be $10/mo are now $30/mo.  I cannot afford this any longer.

When I last upgraded, I was told that my current plan (unlimited data was no longer an option) was obsolete.  I had to go with the family plan and choose a data plan.  Also, the non-smartphones on the account are now $30/mo rather than $10 as they used to be.  The cost of service has increased dramatically in the last 18 months.  Why, when other services are offering unlimited data and less expensive monthly lines, does Verizon not offer this to at the very least, long-time, loyal customers?

RC like myself do not work for Verizon wireless.
    We are customers like yourself.
However his reply was 100% spot on. You may not like his answer but not liking it does not change the accuracy of it.
If you purchased at full price the unlimited data would have stayed.
But when people say upgrade they normally mean a free phone or greatly reduced phone with a two year contract.
The plan change was not necessary unless you purchased smart phones. If you were buying clam shell basic phones only then no plan changes should have been done.
You had 14 days to back out of the deal. Because you did not do so does not mean Verizon did not explain all your options.
You can port out and have Sprint or T-Mobile refund your early termination fees. I read this morning AT&T is also doing this on a limited basis.
Or you can go to Boost mobile or Net10 or Cricket prepaid all you can eat unlimited talk, text and data.
Also look at consumer cellular they may be just what you need.
They range from $10 to $50 check them out.
    Good Luck

  • What reaction, if any, can we expect from Verizon in regards to the T-Mobile program to pay early cancellations fees? (This is sort of a 2-part question)

A brief rundown here...over the last 7 or 8 years, I've had 2 carriers, T-Mobile, with whom I was pretty happy and then Verizon for the majority of that time, due to a friend of mine working there. He is no longer with the company, however. Here's the dilemma. Today, I managed to slam my Samsung Brightside in a car door (jacket pocket, jacket not all the way out) and the sole redeeming feature of that otherwise useless phone is that it took repeated drops to the floor really well. I have probably dropped that thing more than my previous 4 phones combined and maybe squared.
Anyway, the long and short of it is that the Brightside is no longer under the 12 month warranty and it doesn't look like I really have any good options here, aside from trying to hunt down a used one and suffering through another year of a phone I increasingly detest. If I have to get a smartphone, I may as well look at making a move to whoever is going to charge me less for services fees, etc. and right now that is T-Mobile. The basic questions here are: is Verizon going to get to be price competitive and for my particular situation, what can Verizon do for me specifically?
I will be in a Verizon store tomorrow, but a few of the deals that are attractive seem to also be internet only. I am looking to be back in order tomorrow, one way or the other, as my phone is not really functional at all, so if anyone at Verizon has some answers or solutions to keep me in the house of Big Red, I'd love to hear them...quick.
Feel free to email me directly if you want, but don't bother calling...for the reason mentioned. Thanks.

Well first off unless you had the supplement insurance verizon will not replace a phone broke in a car door. That is physical damage and is not covered.
At present you can use if qualified the device payment plan which is full price spread out over 12 months with so much down and the rest paid over the year. There is a $2 fee per month for this plan. However if you have unlimited data etc on the plan now you keep it. That is a plus for many customers.
You can use the edge plan, you pay so much and after a certain time frame after paying half the phone cost you can trade in the phone and get a new super doper phone, again you pay so much down and can do this over and over. However if you have unlimited data you lose it. The cost of data is very expensive and read the posts here about problems with actual usage versus what was never used before.
Or you can pay full price for the device or get another device from a friend or buy a cheap device from a place off the net.
    Good Luck

  • Taxes, Governmental Surcharges, and Fees

My charges in the category referenced in the subject, increased from $5.05 to $12.02 from October to November, with no change in usage.
Anybody know why or also experienced this increase?
    Thanks.

    pepper1990 wrote:
that category was the only one that changed. Increased by $7
But you are obviously not looking at your DETAILED bill as you have not said WHAT has increased.
When I sign into MyVerizon, click "View Bill" and then click "Print Bill" a PDF of my DETAILED bill opens up in a new window.
I then scroll down to the details of my first line(primary) and come up with a breakdown of the "Taxes, Governmental Surcharges, and Fees" category into:
    Taxes, Governmental Surcharges and Fees
State Public Safety Comm Surchg 1.20
    Cnty 911 Surchg .30
    State Sales Tax 3.64
    Cnty Sales Tax 3.64
    Total $8.78
Scroll down to my 2nd line and the same category is broken down as:
    Taxes, Governmental Surcharges and Fees
    Public Safety Comm Surchg 1.20
    Cnty 911 Surchg .30
    State Sales Tax .46
    Cnty Sales Tax .46
    Total $2.42
    Third line:
    Taxes, Governmental Surcharges and Fees
    Public Safety Comm Surchg 1.20
    Cnty 911 Surchg .30
    State Sales Tax .46
    Cnty Sales Tax .46
    Total $2.42
    Etc... for all five lines.
Compare these figures with your previous bill and you can see what has increased and know who/what is to blame.

  • I don't like rate increases

i see that my account took a .14 cent per line jump this year. Any reason it's going up other than "because we can"? Seems like you would give your long-time faithful-paying customers a break rather than a hit. Can you check into this for me? Getting awful close to dumping my cell phone and that's a lose/lose situation. How about we see what we can do to make it win/win? Thanks for considering.

That $0.14 per line jump is likely not a "rate increase" but simply a fluctuation in fees and/or taxes which happen occasionally. These go up and they also go down.
