Lotsa errors!

Hi all,
I recently treated myself by building a new PC with these specs:
Amd AthlonXP 2200+
512mb Corsair PC2700
120GB Maxtor
Asus Nforce2 Deluxe
Msi Gf4 Ti4200
I am using windows XP, but i am having a number of issues with the graphics. I don't know whether they are related and so far i have tried new drivers, a new BIOS and a clean boot up of windows. These are the problems:
1. Unreal Tournament 2003 - Works pretty well but on maps with distant objects, i.e. objects that are not within about 10yards on screen, i get a lot of 'shuddering' when i turn. None of the settings in the game have solved this and i've tried changing settings in the ini file .
2. Red Alert 2, C&G and Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 - Pretty hard to describe but when moving around the maps, the screen briefly tries to do something with the graphics. Looks like the graphics are adjusting themselves from top to bottom on horizontal lines. Have no idea how to solve this ?( . Need extra help here.
and finally 3. Capture drivers - Every time i install the capture drivers i look in the device manager and it tells me there's a problem with the video capture :( .
I don't think any of these are related to each other but it would be great if i could get my PC running well.
Thanks for your time, bornlivid

Hi, I've also been playing UT2003 and C&C Generals on this current graphics cards. Well 'bout ya problem, maybe the follwoing should help...
1. Switch off any AA samples in your graphics card performance.
2. Switch off all SBA enabled utilities.
3. Play at lower resolutions like 1024 by 768 @ 16bit colors with monitor running @least 75hz and above.
Especially for C&C/G, as their gameplay is a bit rigourous, if you've noticed during gamplay, they tend to Zoom In and Out of the screen focusing on different entities during gameplay... Lower the speed of the game as that is actually the framerate that will be consumed for playing... I found this in one of their .ini files.
All the Best...  :D !!!

  • 6800 cards-a no-no with nforce boards?

    I have been looking for a new GFX card to replace my ati radeon 9700 tx for awhile now. The 6800 Gt seems to be the top performer for the 400 dollar price range over the x800. However, I have been seeing lots of threads on different board saying the nforce boards have "hitching" problems with the 6800. Does anyone have a 6800 w/ a nforce board not having problems? How common is this problem?

    sideband addressing and fastwrites only help when writing new data.
    sideband addressing uses a different channel to send commands and to send data.
    that way you can continue issuing API calls, even though there are textures being loaded into video memory.
    without sideband addressing, commands and data use the same channel. So if the video card is busy recieving a texture, no commands can get through till the file is done.
    fastwrites just gives the CPU direct access to the video memory.
    normally, the cpu sends new data to a region of ram, it then passes a command to the video card to 'go get the data from XXXram', and the video card goes and gets the data at its own pace. with fastwrites, the cpu can dump new data into video memory at _its_ own pace . no waiting on the video card. (you can see how this is a problem if the video ram is overheated and can't keep up. lotsa errors)
    both these only will help framerates when loading textures.
    sideband addressing stops hitching when loading textures.
    fastwrites speeds up the time taken to load a texture.
    average framerates are not affected by these 2. textres only take an instant to load. and new textures are loaded time to time (can be every few minutes). not at every frame. both these two options enabled will limit the stall experienced from time to time when entering a new room with new textures, things like that.
    so far good/bad makes of cards are random. as always, you can get the same card 20x over, and some of them will have problems, others will OC only a few mhz with a ton of extra cooling, and others will oc 150 mhz with nothing fancy added to them. it depends completely on the quality of IC's on the board, and you don't know that till the card is made and tested to see just how good it came out.
    all the 6800 series are the SAME card. literally same belt of the same factory. the ones that fail at full spec are knocked down in speed and channels till they meet some category. 6800's with 12 pipes are *usually* 6800's with less than 16 fully workign pipes. they could have 12 working, they could have 15 working. and in some cases, 16 working , and they just needed more 6800's than they had crappy-testing cards. after all, the bulk of sales are at the lower end.
    gt's are just ultras that didn't test as high as ultra's, and some are ultra-tested cards clocked down just cause they needed more gt's to meet demand
    ultras are the cards that passed with flying colours. but even so, some pass better than others. and some will have problems down the road under stress and situations that weren't expected.
    for the most part, gt's will oc to ultra speeds cause they are literally the same thing. just marked with a different name and have a different fan on them (and diff resistors to digitally 'id' it as a gt).
    Ultras do _NOT_ make the companies money (not much at least, and i mean by sales). they are just advertising tools so companies can brag about how they are the fastest blah blah blah. few people buy them. there are like 20 gt's purchased for every ultra. the odds of getting gt's that are just downclocked utlras are _very_ good. so i would be surprised to hear of many gt owners having problems at GT speeds, given that most of them can handle ultra speeds. the problems will mostly be around the limits. in the ultra+ area.
    of course, some GT's really are gt's because they can't handle ultra speeds. there is no guarantee. but no company will spend the $ to make separate manufacturing processes for each card. they're *usually* all the same, just marketed differently.
    change the fan, change a resistor, and tack on a power connector (for the ultras). that's all they do.

  • Too Many disk I/O tasks (-10022) error playing song after edits

    I have been fighting Logic 9 throwing the "Too Many disk I/O tasks (Elastic Audio) (-10022)" error when playing back a song with 12 tracks of audio AFTER I cut across 8 tracks (of drums) and move regions around. The Disk I/O indicator never shows more than 1-2 bars, tops when this error is thrown. While writing this up and troubleshooting, the problem has seemed to sort itself out, but only after doing some peculiar steps.
    *System is MacPro 2x2.26 Quad-Core, 8GB RAM, Mackie Onyx 1620 recording to 500GB WD MyBook Pro over FW800. I/O Buffer = 128.
    1) Grouped the 8 tracks of drums (there are 3 takes on each track). Play back song. No problems.
    2) Cut the drums at bars 73, 81, 105 and 109.
    3) Drag-copied the regions from bars 105-109 to 73-81.
    4) Playback song, error thrown at bar 70
    5) Increase buffer size to 256.
    6) Playback song, error thrown at bar 70
    7) Increase buffer size to 512.
    8) Playback song, error thrown at bar 70
    - Thought this might be a disk problem.
    9) I copied the project with all the files to the internal Seagate and open the project.
    10) Playback song, error thrown at bar 70
    - Thinking this is not a disk problem.
    11) Open the project on the original WD external drive.
    12) Mute all regions an all drum tracks except the kick.
    13) The song plays back normally.
    14) Un-mute regions on 1 track and playback and repeat for each track.
    15) The song plays back normally until the 8th drum track is un-muted, then the error is thrown.
    16) Mute and un-mute the regions on 8th drum track.
    17) The song now plays back normally. Error no longer thrown.
    Looks like after making the edits, muting all the regions and un-muting them 1 by one might have cleared this up right away.
    Is anyone else is experiencing something similar? If so, how are you working around this?

    No, didn't solve it yet, after I'm done completing work to meet a deadline, I will do some experimenting and see what I can figure out. But so far I've had this phasing issue occur in two different sessions on two different rigs (both Mac Pro dual-quad core with lotsa RAM)...
    One test that anyone could try... to really max it out... take one single source and record it onto 20 tracks at once... or I guess you could just record one track and then duplicate it 19 times, whatever. Group all these tracks, keep `em all at the same level. Then take a listen to all tracks at once using some good headphones.
    Then put all the tracks in flex mode and do some flexing, flex every single quarter note this way and that way for three full measures or so, whatever. Then play it back again with headphones. If you hear ANY hint of phase shifting, then you are experiencing what I am experiencing.
    For anyone who might not be familiar with the "phase shifting" sound I speak of, it pretty much will sound as if you are running your tracks through a classic "phase shifter" effect pedal or whatever. If using headphones, it'll seem like the audio starts swirling around in your head like some wacky stereo effect, frequency response will change and shift, etc.
    I've noted that I have not always heard phase issues when flexing, it seem to be a bit inconsistent. It may be because I've been working in some very large sessions, maybe in my situations Logic was already being heavily taxed and then the extra flexing just put it over the edge. Don't know. Will do some testing perhaps next week.
    But, I'd say everyone should be careful about this before bouncing forever to disk and then maybe deleting all your old raw audio, because if you permanently write in some wacky phase shifting between your group of drum tracks and have no original raw files left, you'll be in very big trouble... I don't think there would be any way to fix that. In a professional level mix, that type of issue would stick out like a sore thumb. I guess one fix would be to apply a phase shifter effect across the entire drum bus... on purpose... as some sort of artistic statement... hey, it might sound cool!
    This whole issue has made me realize how incredibly important it is for DAW tracks to remain truly phase locked at all times. Been working with DAWs for years now and never really thought about it. In one regard, this is a lot to ask... to make sure your 30-odd tracks or whatever are always dead in time with each other, to the sample. It's certainly of critical importance, at least for multiple tracks of the same exact source (like when you have 12 mics on a drum kit etc).
    Actually, perfect time synch is just as critical for even a mere TWO mics on a given source... any stereo recording. Once one track goes out of "synch" with the other, even by a minute amount, just for a short amount of time, you will HEAR it.,.. and it won't be good... unless you desire a wacky phase shifting effect.

  • WriteToFile(doc DOMDocument,File varchar2) error-Urgent reply needed

    The problem description in our environment:-
    A xmldom package in the oracle 8.1.7 is trying to create an xml file from a DOMdocument. We are creating this DOMdocument by using an xmlparser. The input to the xmlparser is a file on the unix space.We are able to read the values ,display them. The error happens when the writeToFile method is used to update the xml file after changing the node values in the dom document. The environment seems to be okay or is there any problem with it.
    To check our logic, a sample code from the web page http://www.akadia.com/services/ora_gen_xml.html was run.It gave the same error description(ORA-20000).It had also used the same function and the error occured at the same line number.The code from the web page reads as:-

    The priveleges that were required for the above code were:-
    GRANT javauserpriv to scott;
    GRANT javasyspriv to scott;
    GRANT EXECUTE ON xmldom TO scott;
    These were also existing for our code and database user.NO clue is there about any possible environmental setting errors.
    This code was trying to do the same job that we did but created a document object and not used an existing document object(from a parsing operation).Please advice about possible solutions.It is urgent.
    with Regards
    gopal

    Hai kevin
    I tried both of what you have said .I had also some suggestions from an oracle dba.Can you please help me any idea you have about it.It's regarding the encoding of the xml file.The suggestion was:-I have enclosed the my try for the first solution he suggested.
    "ora-2000 is a very generic error ( mostly with intermedia/text/context/apps)
    but may occur in regular stuff tooo..
    in MOST OF CASES, it does not have any INDIVIDUAL IMPORTANCE at all.
    its is resultant of ANOTHER ERROR.
    in your case it is
    ORA-06512 which is numeric or value error.
    somedata is not GOOOD or unwanted character in unwanted place.
    so these would be my LOOKOUTS (though, it may not relevent, as my knowledge on XML is very less.
    I DONT DO ANY DEVELOPMENT at all. But just support lots n lots n lotsa developers).
    1. as per your posting,
    > > > sys.xmldom.writeToFile(doc ,
    --->-- > > > '/user/temp\docSample.xml');
    > > > sys.xmldom.freeDocument(doc);
    in general terms, this would be wierd naming(line 2).
    for unix '/user/temp/docsample' should do
    (beware of file system permissions and case sensitivity in UNIX)
    for windows '\usr\temp\docsample' should be used.
    except IF U ARE USING UNC / MAPPED DRIVES ( THERE IS A SPECIAL CONSIDERATION
    TO USE directory/direcotry\filname..THAT IS DIFFERENT CASE).
    check this ( this may lead to error PERMISSION DENIED ( the clasical words from UNIX)
    2. to deal with ora-6512, this may posssibly be th reason.
    The default character set for XML is UTF8 - special characters indicated would
    have an ASCII value > 127. Any character with an ASCII value > 128 is
    interpreted as being the leading byte of a multi-byte character in UTF8.
    To get around this you need to explicitly specify the character set you are
    using. For example:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
    This tells the XML parser to read the file as ISO-8859-1. If you are using
    another character set, substitute the ISO name of the character set in this
    line."
    Kamal , i tried giving the '/' slash instead of '\' .The oracle reported a error,description as follows.
    63 sys.xmldom.writeToFile(doc , '/user/temp/docSample.xml',sys.xmldom.getCharset(doc));
    64 sys.xmldom.freeDocument(doc);
    65 END;
    66 /
    UTF8
    DECLARE
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-20000: An internal error has occurred: No such file or directory
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.XMLDOM", line 37
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.XMLDOM", line 1826
    ORA-06512: at line 63
    It reported error and when i revert back to the previously used slash,it had the old error.You must have read the dba's suggestions.Do you know about how to go about this.Anyway thaks for the help.Will be waiting for your advice.
    The UTF8 ouput you must be seeing is the document's charset after me setting it,previously i tried to get the default value after parsing ,it had the same report.
    regards

  • FCP7 - crashing issues, interesting error msg

    OK, more of an informational post here...I'm working on an effed-up project which I'm gonna have to do some forensic work on to make sure these guys don't do this again...lotsa of "worst practice" stuff here, resulting of course in constant crashing...for now, just what the heck is this?:
    "Final Cut Pro quite unexpectedly while using the KGCore plug-in"
    Any takers on what the "KGCore plug-in is"?  Thanks.

    I was getting the exact same error message.\
    I'm running WinXP, 2 GB of RAM. The weirder thing is, if I opened up Lightroom on my wife's acct. on the same computer, it worked perfectly.
    I agree 1.0 is terrible after using 1.3 :-) I tried to re-install 1.2, and 1.3 and got the same error message.
    If it means anything, I had just exported the catalog to my backup drive, deleted the pics, and cleaned up the HD, then Defragged. I don't see where that would be a problem, but ya never know!
    Any help would be great!

  • Windows Vista: Ipod Error Message, no longer read by PCs

    Hello,
    I have a 5th generation black ipod video with 30GB of memory.
    The other day I hooked it up to my laptop (Toshiba, 4 months old) that it's been functioning on with no problems whatsoever. This weird error message flashed twice about it not being able to sync because of some software problem.
    Eversince then, the only thing I can charge my ipod on is the family treadmill in the basement (~_~) as no other computer in the house recognizes it. I can't even charge it through the wall sockets, either.
    I have changed the ipod cord, still no luck. I've also reset the device about 3 or 4 times and uninstalled, restarted the laptop then reinstalled itunes. I would like to reset it back to factory settings but that's impossible as computers/laptops don't pick it up. I live very far from a Mac store...
    What's a girl to do? I can't live without my Busta Rhymes and Wu-Tang Clan!
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    you have to update Vista go to this site and up-date http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

  • Error while offsetting a variable

    Hello Experts
    I want to display the data for last 5 years in my query. So I tried using the SAP exit variable Current Calendar Year (0CYEAR) and the offset it by 5. However, I am getting the following error message for the query "System error in program SAPLRR12 and form REP_ASSIGN_INITIAL_OPT-01"
    Any Help on this is appreciated and points will be assigned.
    Thanks

    Thanks Chetan for your prompt reply. I have assigned points.
    But I would appreciate if you help me clear my understanding of offseting a variable.
    Say if the Current Calendar Year variable returns 2008, then will offseting that variable by 5 return me the data for years 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005 , 2004. Or, will it just return me the data for 2008 - 5 = 2004 only.
    Thanks

  • Open vi error for report generation toolkt

    Originally it works fine.
    Now I upgrade to win7, LV9 and office2010.
    To open the old program by 8.6.1, I reinstalled LV 8.6.1 and report generation toolkit.
    But still got the error as attached.
    Any suggestion, thanks.

    1. MS Office 2010 is not yet supported, since it's still just a beta. I believe there are couple of changes that Microsoft make, and it could cause a problem.
    2. LabVIEW 8.6.1, and all its toolkit is not supported on Windows 7. This could cause a problkem also.
    In conclusion, you should use LabVIEW 2009, Report Generation Toolkit 2009, Windows 7, and downgrade office to XP, 2003 or 2007.

    Just a little explanation about the error message.
    ORA-06550: line 5, column 39:
    PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "(" when expecting one of the following:
    Line 5 column 39 is the starting parenthesis of the "(10)". For using cast you can't add a lenght to the datatype.
    If you change that, then you get a different error message:
    declare
    v_s nvarchar2(10);
    p_RN varchar2(10);
    begin
      v_s := v_s || cast(p_RN as nvarchar2); -- ERROR IS COMING IN THIS LINE

    Fehler beim Start in Zeile 13 in Befehl:

    *Action:ORA-06550: line 5, column 22:
    PLS-00382: expression is of wrong type
    This shows that you can't convert/cast a nvarchzar type into another nvarchar type.
    It would work if you cast a number into a varchar2 type for example
    declare
    v_s nvarchar2(10);
    p_RN number(10);
    begin
      v_s := v_s || cast(p_RN as nvarchar2); -- ERROR IS COMING IN THIS LINE
    end;

    Hi Rachit
    You answered my doubt.This one really works . Thanks a lot !
    But i have one more doubt i.e if have created the Presentation variable in the dashboard prompt and I want to use it in a report
    i.e the scenario is If I have created a new column i.e " Revised Salary " in the Presentation Services and want the values to be entered there dynamically upon end users choice. For ex the end user selecrts value of 1 then the report would display an increament of 500 to all the employees in the " Revised Salary " column and if the end user select value of 2 .. the report would display a decrement of 500 in the " Revised salary column".
    I am getting the following error :

    Please NOTE : The column on which I want to do an increament is : "F1 Revenue"."1-01 Revenue (Sum All)"
    Thanks

  • Error message into a Variable.

    Dear users,
    I have a rather usual (unusual from the weekend beers for me though!!) query which I can't figure out a proper way to implement.
    My requirement is like this:
    I have a message class in which I want to define a text 'Employee number & not found'.
    I want to use this in the program, but not to raise this error. Instead, I want to move this error message with the Employee number into a Character(200) variable.
    So instead of using MESSAGE e0xx(messageclass) USING employee number, I would like to move the error text into a variable which looks like:
    lv_text = e0xx(messageclass) USING '1234'   which stores the text 'Employee number 1234 not found' in lv_text.
    How would I acheive it??
    Thanks, V!

    Try tis way
    message e999(00) with i_emp-empno into lv_text.
    press f1 in message will provide you more details
