Overide web.xml sessiontimeout info via Console

I have various modules in the project with each web.xml. I have session timeout specified in each of them
<session-config>
<session-timeout>15</session-timeout>
</session-config>
I am using WebLogic Server 9.2 MP3
I would like to override this information via weblogic console without bringing down the server or changing the code manually and redeploy.
Thanks for any information on this.

Hi Pete,
A description of the construction of the web service home page url can
be found here [1]
I believe I've seen a CR on that warning message from the lack of a
web.xml (BEA-101313); this can be safely ignored, an empty webapp
descriptor file gets created by default.
Thanks,
Bruce

When I deploy my Webservices as a WAR at the application folder level e.g. :-
\applications
mywebservices.war
The Weblogic Console seems to be aware that the war contains web services, so
if I go to the
console Tree -
Deployments
- Web Application Modules
- mywebservices
Then choose the 'Testing' tab, I can see a page that allows testing of the Web
Service e.g.
"This page allows you to test the Web Service to make sure it is deployed and
working as expected."...
But when I deploy the WAR as part of an Exploded EAR, then the Web Apps becomes
listed under :-
Deployments
- Applications
- myEAR
- mywebservices
but the Testing tab thinks the Web App is more standard ? e.g.
"This page allows you to test the deployment of the Web application to make sure
it was a successful one. "
and consequently there are no links to the URLs for testing the Web Service. But
it still works but is hidden to administators.
Any ideas ?
Also, I did notice that the web app in both cases doesn't have the standard web.xml
present. The web app was built using a build.xml from http://manojc.com 's sample43
, and that when it is deployed weblogic gives a warning to say web-xml is missing.
Everything still works though.

  • Edit env-entry values from web.xml in the WLS console.

    Hi guys!
    Is it possible to define JNDI variables of type java.lang.String using WLS Console?
    Thanks

    I think this would require the use of a deployment plan, which you can learn about here: [http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs103/deployment/config.html] . This won't be as convenient as just editing the value directly in the admin console. In fact, it won't even prevent the requirement of redeploying the webapp. It will only allow you to make the change without rebuilding and repackaging the webapp.
    It's questionable whether it's practical or meaningful to change env-entry values in a web.xml without redeployment, because even if you could change the values without redeploying, you'd have to reinitialize the servlet/filter with the changed environment parameter.
    If you really need this dynamic reconfiguration ability, you might have to design the facility into your application, using some sort of polling or event handling capability.

  • How to edit web.xml deployment descriptor from console in weblogic 8.1?

    In weblogic 7.0, deployment descriptor such as web.xml can be edited from the admin

    Is this function taken out? Why is it taken out? Do I have an alternative to edit
    it without unpacking and packing the EAR or WAR?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Access my web.xml data source via a class

    Hi - I've gone ahead and set up a datasource in my web.xml according to the steps provided here by the good folks at Netbeans. I know my db works and my data source is set up correctly because I'm able to get results back from something using the following bits in a jsp:
    <sql:query var="prodListQry" dataSource="jdbc/Goober">
        SELECT DISTINCT PRODUCT_NAME,PRODUCT_CODE FROM PRODUCTS //edited somewhat
    </sql:query>
    //lots of stuff
    <c:forEach var="prodListQry" items="${prodListQry.rows}">
    <option value="${prodListQry.PRODUCT_NAME}"
           >${prodListQry.PRODUCT_NAME}${prodListQry.PRODUCT_CODE}</option>
    </c:forEach>That's all well and good, but I don't seem to be bright enough to extrapolate how to use this same resource (if I can) from within a class (ie NOT a jsp).
    I'm left with duplicate code like the following, which we all know is bad...
               Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
         String username = "";
         String password = "";
         con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:Goobir",username,password);
    //...Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Sounds promising.... I'm testing it out as a scriptlet within a jsp before I put it in a class, but it seems like I need to import something...
    "Generated servlet error cannot find symbol
    symbol : class Context"
    My complete jsp is as follows:
    <%@ page import="javax.servlet.*" %>
    <%@ page import="javax.servlet.http.*" %>
    <html>
        <head>
            <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
            <title>JSP Page</title>
        </head>
        <body>
    <%
    Context initContext = new InitialContext();
    DataSource dataSource = (DataSource) initContext.lookup("jdbc/Goober");
    Connection connection = dataSource.getConnection();
        %>
        </body>

  • Newly authorised users unable to view host info via console.

    I've recently added a number of users to the /var/opt/SUNWsymon/cfg/esusers file on the SunMC server and
    ensured that they have groups acess to esadm and esdomadm. Unfortunately, when they double click on a
    server icon in the SunMC console, the window opens but remains blank. After 20 seconds or so, an error
    messages appears in the lower left hand corner stating "Unable to load console info".
    If I log on to the affected host and look in the /var/opt/SUNWsymon/cfg directory, I find two files containing
    my login ID..
    agent-usmaclgrps-d.dat
    agent-usmusertbl-d.dat
    No entries exist for the affected users. Yet if I run '/opt/SUNWsymon/sbin/es-setup -F', the two config files are updated with details of TWO of the affected users. The other user may not be present due to the fact they have
    yet to log on via the console and try to retrieve the relevant info.
    I have about 40 known servers that require attention, the chances are there are a significant number that have yet
    to be diagnosed with the same issue. Any advice on a quick fix would be greatly appreciated. The thought
    of having to run es-setup on each server is not something I would particularly relish...
    Regards,
    Trev.

    What does the packet-tracer say, what does the IPsec associations say (packets encrypted/decrypted)?
    This might be faster that going through your hundreds of lines of config.

  • Web.xml security

    Lets say that I have 2 main groups, group USER and group ADMIN.
    Now lets say that I have 3 other groups, groups A, B, and C.
    The structure in OCS would look something like this.
    group USER has members group A, group B, group C and group ADMIN
    group ADMIN has members that are just users, no groups
    From our application to perform a isUserInRole(group B) would group B have to appear in the web.xml file or should I only have to have group USER in the web.xml file?

    Hi,
    the web.xml file contains all groups that you reference in URL constraints in teh web.xml or call via isUserInRole(). Note that you also can use different names in isUserInRole() but then you need to use the role-ref element to map it to a role that exists in web.xml.
    Note that J2EE doesn't support RBAC in the web.xml, which means that there is no role that is a member of a role. OC4J supports this from the security provider site, but still this isn't the case for J2EE itself.

  • Console WAR deployment editor tool damage my web.xml file

    I put many servlet and servlet-mapping items in web.xml file. When I deployed my

    button, the web.xml file was changed, but some servlet and servlet-mapping items
    was removed unexpected.
    Why?
    When I start the server in Development mode, this error occured rather often.
    In the product mode, this error occured a few times.
    My operation steps:
    1. undeploy the original app from console
    2. copy the new war file to the applications directory, overwrite the old one
    3. use the console to open the deployment description, make the changes
    4. persist the changes
    5. re-deploy the web app
    Please give the solution as soon as possible

  • What info. to store in the web.xml tag realm-name for a LDAP authentication ?

    Hello everybody,
    I try to authentify users of my web-app with a full-LDAP directory (O.I.D : Oracle
    Internet Directory),
    using Weblogic 5.1.
    So i have configured :
    1) "weblogic.properties"
    2) "ldaprealm.properties"
    and then i have to configure the xml files for my web-app : "web.xml" and "weblogic.xml".
    What kind of information must i put in the tag <realm-name>, under <login-config>
    in "web.xml" file ?
    Is it the same name which is mentionned in the weblogic.security.realmClass property
    of the "weblogic.propertis" file ?
    Is it another name ? Which one ?...
    Could you send me a pair of a web.xml/weblogic.xml associated with a web-app,
    in a LDAP authentication envirnoment ?
    It would be a great help for me.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Sylvain,
    Web-Application security works in exactly the same way whether you are using the LDAPRealm,
    or just the fileRealm
    To the web-application, it makes no difference whether a principal is in either LDAPRealm or
    fileRealm
    Here's working pair:
    web.xml
    <web-app>
    <security-constraint>
    <web-resource-collection>
    <web-resource-name>myName</web-resource-name>
    <url-pattern>/myDirectory/myFile.html</url-pattern>
    <http-method>GET</http-method>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <auth-constraint>
    <role-name>
    myRole
    </role-name>
    </auth-constraint>
    </security-constraint>
    <login-config>
    <auth-method>BASIC</auth-method>
    </login-config>
    <security-role>
    <role-name>
    myRole
    </role-name>
    </security-role>
    </web-app>
    weblogic.xml
    <weblogic-web-app>
    <description>WebLogic Descriptor</description>
    <security-role-assignment>
    <role-name>myRole</role-name>
    <principal-name>myWLS_principal</principal-name>
    </security-role-assignment>
    </weblogic-web-app>
    Here myWLS_principal should be a user or group that exists in either the WebLogic fileRealm
    or the WebLogic LDAP realm (or other alternate realm -- it doesn't make a difference whether
    this is LDAP, or NTRealm, or UnixRealm, or RDBMSRealm, or Custom Realm...)
    Cheers

  • Calling a web service through SSL via a stand alone java class

    HI,
    I am trying to call a web service through SSL via a simple stand alone java client.
    I have imported the SSL certificate in my keystore by using the keytool -import command.
    Basically I want to add a user to a group on the server. Say I add a user user 1 to group group 1 using an admin userid and password. All these values are set in an xml file which I send to the server while calling the server. I pass the web service URL, the soap action name and the xml to post as the command line arguments to the java client.
    My xml file(Add.xml) that is posted looks like :
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <SOAP-ENV:Envelope
    xmlns:xsi = "http://www.w3.org/1999/XMLSchema-instance"
    xmlns:SOAP-ENC = "http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/"
    xmlns:SOAP-ENV = "http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"
    xmlns:xsd = "http://www.w3.org/1999/XMLSchema"
    SOAP-ENV:encodingStyle = "http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/">
    <SOAP-ENV:Body>
    <namesp1:modifyGroupOperation xmlns:namesp1 = "/services/modifyGroup/modifyGroupOp">
    <auth>
    <user>adminUser</user>
    <password>adminPassword</password>
    </auth>
    <operationType>ADD</operationType>
    <groupName>group1</groupName>
    <users>
    <userName>user1</userName>
    </users>
    </namesp1:modifyGroupOperation>
    </SOAP-ENV:Body>
    </SOAP-ENV:Envelope>
    I call the client as:
    java PostXML https://com.webservice.com/services/modifyGroup "/services/modifyGroup/modifyGroupOp" Add.xml
    I my client, I have set the following:
    System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStore", "C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jre1.5.0_12\\lib\\security\\cacerts");
    System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword", "password");

    Hi jazz123,
    There's an example in the [*Java Web Services Tutorial*|http://java.sun.com/webservices/docs/2.0/tutorial/doc/] : see Chapter 1: Building Web Services with JAX-WS - A Simple JAX-WS Client.

  • Unable to load descriptor .../web.xml - DescriptorException - Java EE6 war

    Deploying a simple Java EE 6 war into WebLogic 10.3.3 fails with <Unable to load descriptor /root/Oracle/Middleware/user_projects/domains/palis1/servers/AdminServer/upload/SimpleEE6App.war/WEB-INF/web.xml of module SimpleEE6App.war. Then I installed the actual version of WebLogic server in order to check whether I can run EE6 apps there to. But deploying the war using WebLogic admin console fails with

    The web app consists of one JSF 2 web dialog, one managed bean, one stateless session bean and one entity bean. In GlassFish v3 the app works fine. Then I installed the actual version of WebLogic server in order to check whether I can run EE6 apps there to. But deploying the war using WebLogic admin console fails with ...
    Hey Axel -
    WLS 10.3.x does not implement Java EE 6 -- it's a Java EE 5 based server.
    While we have added support for a few independent Java EE 6 specifications where we can -- such as JSF 2.0 in WLS 10.3.3 and JPA 2.0/JAX-RS 1.1 with WLS 10.3.4 that is coming in the next patchset -- we don't support all of the Java EE 6 model and thus you can't use any of the EJB 3.1, Servlet 3.0 changes and you can't deploy EJBs (and JPA entities) inside of a WAR file. Our next major release will be a Java EE 6 implementation, where this will be possible.

  • Error trying to update web.xml

    I'm trying to update  web.xml via these instructions:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d0eb8120-b66c-2910-5795-894f384fc054
    The upload fails, and I see this excetpion in the log:
    Caused by: java.rmi.RemoteException: Error occurred during single file update of
           application sap.com/irj. Reason: Updating the security information in the
           deployment descriptors is not allowed in this operation.; nested exception is:
         com.sap.engine.services.servlets_jsp.server.exceptions.WebDeploymentException:
           Updating the security information in the deployment descriptors is not
           allowed in this operation.
    Ideas?  I'm signing in as Administrator, so why would the operation not be allowed?
    This is a 7.0 system, and the instructions are for a nw2004 system.  We've successfully uploaded the web.xml file before, so I'm thinking that something has changed in 7.0 that's preventing the upload.

    This page of the documentation indicates that the technique is the correct case:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/6e/8590f1d6d349c9adc34c6a8085189b/frameset.htm
    So, one of two things has happened:
    1. The documentation is in error, or
    2. A bug has been introduced.
    I'm hoping it's #2....

              It seems the weblogic.servlet.reloadCheckSecs property is not taking effect.
              The

              I also trid to set the servlet classpath in the web.xml file with

              other

    Hi All:
    Thanks for all your help regarding the adfAuthentication success_url. Now I am able to configure to make this work. But now I am facing another issue i.e. I am getting 401 Not authorized message when the success_url is pointed to the jspx page.
    Note: I am using custom login module similar to DBProcOraDataSourceLoginModule so my roles are stored in the custom Role class. So I am not sure how to pass this role info to the security in ADF in order to authorize the page to be viewed.
    Could you please help and can you point me to any specific link.

  • Mime mapping in web.xml not working for csv/excel

    I am using the weblogic 8.1 app server. I want to serve up some static content
    from an "exploded" web application (dir structure instead of a war file). This
    static content includes html files and csv files that cause the browser to give
    an option to the user to open the file in excel or download to disk. I have inserted
    the following mapping inside web.xml in the exploded directory structure...
    <web-app>
    <mime-mapping>
    <extension>csv</extension>
    <mime-type>application/vnd.ms-excel</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    </web-app>
    I redeployed the "web application". When I try to access a csv file, instead of
    giving me the save/open dialog, the browser displays the ASCII contents of the
    csv in the browser like an HTML file. Am I missing a step? Is the xml above not
    for the functionality that I am trying to implement here?
    Thanks.
