OWB Installation

Hi everybody,
I need some help trying to figure out OWB (10gr2), installation process, my developement environment is as follows:
Single Development Server:Sun SPARC, Solaris 10:
- DB Instance A: DB 10gr2, intended purpouse, OWB design repository and control center service.
- DB Instance B: DB 9i: intended purpouse, target schema so it requires OWB runtime repository.
1. As long as I understand I must install OWB software in Instance A, create an OWB design repository through repository assistant and configure(?) control center service.
Q1: how do I create ONLY the design repository? what specific options should I select in the repository assistant? I've read the OWB install and user guides but I can make no sense.
Q2: how to configure control center service, in order to deploy to target schema in instance B?
2. I must create a runtime repository in instance B.
Q3: how do I create ONLY the runtime repository? again, what options should I select? do I need to install OWB sw in instance B?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
You're in a very interesting situation.
Here is just my idea.
I think your implement strategy will be somthing like "Separate Design and Runtime Environments Implementation". You can see very detail information about this in the Installation Guide.
But something special for you is that you have to set up the target location property to 9i so that the generated PL/SQL will be 9i scripts.
As to your Questions,
Q1: when you follow the Advance Setup, you'll see how to do.
Q2: You'll do that by register the target location.
Q3: The software can be installed on the client machine (instead of inside the Instance). In the instance, you just created the repository (OWB metadata repository or Runtime repository).
I've been using OWB for some years by using R10.1 and just start to get into R10.2. So my answers are just a reference to you.

Not sure if this helps, but the new Administration Class (from Oracle University) has a complete chapter on how to do this. The materials in there are awsome and I would recommend taking this class...

  • OWB Installation problem on AIX 5.2

    Hi,
We are trying to install OWB 9.2.0.2.8 on IBM AIX 5.2 using the download version from OTN. Following installation instructions, we have removed all references to existing ORACLE_HOME in the environment variables: CLASSPATH, PATH, LIBPATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
When we try to run installer from owb92aix/Disk1/runInstaller
following error message appears: Can't find libjvm.a
    and the installation aborts.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Aravind

Yes, we do have the java virtual machine installed in /usr/java131/jre/bin and it is referenced in PATH variable.
When we extracted the downloaded tar file for AIX, the file libjvm.a exists in the extracted directory. We do not know why the installer is unable to find it.
    Thanks,

  • OWB Installation failed

    Hi,
I am trying to create a OWB repository for 10g R2 using OMB and it fails with the following error:
OWB repository installtion failed. The Warehouse Builder repository owner installation failed on user OWBRO.
Exception occured in 'processSPAWN'. java.io.IOException: ../unix/jvm.sh: cannot execute
I have other databases on the same software installation and the OWB repository has been installed successfully on the other databases.
Has anyone encountered this error? What do I do? Please help....

    Hi
According to Metalink (Note:2391278.8), this might be a bug that should have been fixed in patch 9.2.0.6 but another note on Metalink said that in fact it isn't fixed (Note:345155.1) until release 10gR1 (Bug No. 4187886).
Now, if this is the case it is strange that we don't see this more often. So, I am afraid that there is little that can be done except upgrading to 10g (which might perhaps not be possible in your case) or open a TAR with Oracle

    Hi ,
Can you use the Repository Assistance directly instead of Start > Programs > {your Oracle - OWB11gR1clientHome} > Warehouse Builder > Design Center --->Workspace Management ?
You can access Repository Assistance by Start > Programs > {your Oracle - OWB11gR1clientHome} > Warehouse Builder >Administration >Repository Assistance
You can also run the reposinst.bat script located at <OWB_HOME>\owb\bin\win32 to invoke Repository Assistance
Then follow the steps mentioned in the tutorial .

  • OWB - Installation Architecture and Infrastructure configuration

I thought it is a good idea to throw this out to the OWB community to see what your thinking is.
This is my first project; we are currently on detail design. The Client requests a document that covers the following details.
Architecture and Infrastructure configuration for OWB - Oracle Warehouse Builder – which is to be targeted at an ehosting data centre.
    •     What is the best practice either from Oracle
    •     Is it best to go for a 2Tier or 3Tier architecture
    Infrastructure being of interest is:
    •     The use of Application server and web service for giving visibility and access to the runtime / design repository via the repository browser.
    •     The applicable application service i.e.: Control Centre Service
Can this distributed over multiple servers if you application server differs from you database server.
    •     Do you have any information similar to this you compiled in the past that I can use
    •     Or is there any source you can direct me to get this kind of information

Can this distributed over multiple servers if you
application server differs from you database server. This is not an OWB question. This is a database question. You are asking something like 'can I run Oracle with Apache with Tomcat?'. Simple answer is yes. Compex answer is load balancing?

  • OWB Installation & Repository Configration

    Hi All,
I have OWB installed on windows envirnment and my database (Oracle 10gR2) is on Solaris. I am tying to configure the repository in Oracle database.
In order to do that, it prompts me a message asking to have OWB software with the compatible version to be installed locally on the database server machine.
Is it posssible to configure OWB (On Windows) repository databse (on Solaris)?
Or do I need to install any OWB component on repository database as well?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Sonu Anand

    Hi S Anand,
Configuration is quite possible in your case.
warning prompt is just for cnfirming the dedicated control center on same m/c as db server.
    Steps to proceed :
    1. Check the box : skipping
    2. Follow the prompts and enter appropiate inputs
    3. Create new OWB User
    4. Once configurations completed, start the Contol Service
    5. Login to design Center
    Feel free to contact !

  • Error in OWB installation in Fedora 7

I tries to install OWB9.2 in Fedora 7 . While installing I got the error
/media/OWB_9.2_Linux/Disk1/stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.3.1.0.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/jre/linux/bin/i386/native_threads/java: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I checked libstdc++ in /usr/lib directory I got following link file as
    libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3
How I resolve the problem Please help

The problem is solved. One more question I have, in the Expression Operator, we have two groups, the input group and the output group. But if there is a need to have some attibutes for storing temporary calculations as well, before assigning them to the attributes of the output group, then under which group should these be made? I am asking for something like a variable group where the attibutes for storing temporary calculations will be made and these attributes can be used by the output group for sending the values to the next transformation.
    Please help ..

    Hi Mallee,
I think it is database instance configuration issue, look at this error
ORA-04031: unable to allocate 4096 bytes of shared memory ("shared pool","BEGIN
Check requirements for instance configuration in OWB installation guide and increase memory parameter(s) (for Oracle10G database it is SGA_TARGET parameter).
Talk about this problem with your DB administrator.

We would like to install OWB 10g R2 . We have database 10g on Unix AIX HP machine(server).
We like install it in client server architecture though i have gone through some installation guide
I want some clarification about OWB installation in client server fashion..
1)what are components to be installed on the Server.
    2) What are components to be installed on the client.
3)What extra configuration i should do on server end.

1.First create Repository using Repository assistance.
    while creating repository
it will ask you for Repository user and Repository OWNER.
You can create multiple user under One OWner.
After that connect To owb using the one of the user.
Hope it will solve your problem.
