OWB Mapping Reports

I am using OWB 10g with client version of Design Browser so see what reports are available. So far, I'm not seeing what I want. I can't get "Detailed Mapping Report" to work for any mapping, maybe that has what I want? I can get Impact and Lineage reports but I'm looking for more of a simple text-based version of each mapping that can, as much as possible, show column-level mapping from source table to target table. This is to provide fairly readable, simple documentation to the client to depict column level mapping from old database design to new database design.
Something that would combine the Impact and Lineage reports at the column level for each map is what I was hoping to find.
Any ideas?

I am fairly new to OWB and have a similar request to produce a simple column level mapping report that could be provided to business users for review and approval.
The Detailed Mapping Report in the Repository Browser doesn't display this too well.
Can anyone advise me on alternatives, possibly some sql to derive mapping information from the repository?
Would it be better to provide business users with read only access and let them view the mappings in the mapping editor? or provide them with a print out of the mapping from the editor?

Hi,
You can view the status by qurying wb_rt_audit_map_runs from any SQL client.
From there your can copy the output to excel.
Otherwise you can use OWB repository browser to view the mapping running status report.

I want to know what is the advantage of using "Mapping Reporting Application" over replicated partioning, and also what should be the real use of "Mapping Reporting Application"
One example of why you may want to use this functionality is you say you have a reporting database such as an ASO database reporting actuals and you want to push a proportion of the forecast/budget data from the planning application into the ASO model. It could also be that you have a number of different cubes that you need to push different areas of data to from your planning application
When I first read about this new functionality I assumed it would create a replicated partition and push the data to the mapped database, I thought it would manage the partition so it wasn’t destroyed with a refresh, this is not the way it works though but more about that later.Can you please explain me in detail about the way of working of this functionality

I don't know if there is any advantage, it is just a different way going about it, the planning method exports and then loads the data, is that better than a replicated partition I am not sure but everybody has there own opinions.

SSRS Map report

Hi ,
I am facing one difficulties in SSRS Map report.
In my map report there are many states coming ,some having data some not
I have linked states to other report so if I click on state having data it will go to another
report, I want not to show clickable on states which is blank ,i have markerd those states have no data in white colour.

According to your description, you want to have the states with data link to detail report by clicking. Right?
In Reporting Servcies, if we want to have the states link to another report, we can right click on the polygon, select Map->Map Properties->Action->Go to report. Choose the detail report and pass the state as parameter so that the detail report
can filter report based on this value.
Please post some screenshot of sample you want if possible.

How to create Map report?

Hello experts.
I'd like to know how map report works in OBIEE 11G..
Upon researching and trials, I have successfully downloaded and loaded the MVdemo stuff into my DB. I am able to import layers and back ground map into OBIEE. So at this point, I think I have set up the map metadata successfullly and I am able to use map as one of the view.
However, I'd like to know how to actually use the map view to create reports that are meaningful with my data..
I have 1 table, base table, where I have base name, attribute 1...10, latitude and longitude. I also have some fact tables that goes with this table.
It seems, as I was going through the MVdemo metadata, the cities table doesn't store all of the cities in the world (this is understandable), so the part of Russia where my bases are located aren't found in the spatial data.
My base table only has latitude and longitude, it doesn't have geographic region names.
Now I want to create one report that shows all of my bases over east part of Russia on a map, so I want to see a map of Russia with Base names plot all over it.
How would I be able to do it? Do I need additional tables or data to do it?
The examples I get from internet seems to be too generic
Please let me know your thoughts

1. I notice that the author has a subject area 'Map', which was used to create map.. Is this subject area any different from normal subject or is it created specifically for making maps?
2. The author has state, city columns in the DB, which was used to map to the report.. In my case, I only have longitude and altitude of my base in the base table, what can I do in this case?

Problem in OWB map for source change capture

The problem is as follows:-
Our OWB map between two different databases, captures change in data at source and populates them in target. It is a one to one map. The map is failing to process some rows from source database though it gives no:of errors as 0 in the audit view thus we infer that the map is running successfully.
In our case, we have a composite key ( Instance_id, Version_number) at source as well as target. One instance_id can has more than one version number. We have observed that the view is picking up all the version_number for a particular instance_id but the map is unable to populate the last version_number to the target table.
But when this map was executed in another environment and it is successfully populating all the data in the target.
The brief description of the map is as follows:-
The map has a view which captures all the changes in data (insert and update) .From this view we filter the rows which were already processed in previous map run (with help of watermark). Then we sort the rows based on DML type and watermark . These rows are then mapped to a target table. The loading type of the map is INSERT/UPDATE.

Case statement in OWB mapping

I am trying to use a case statement in an OWB mapping. I am attempting to use it in expression builder within a filter object. Each time I try to validate the expression in the expression builder I get an error:
Line 4, Col 6:
PL/SQL: ORA-00920: invalid relational operator
Below is the code used in the expression builder window:
CASE A.ATTRIBUTE_NAME
WHEN 'CA COMPLETION DATE' THEN RTRIM(A.C_CODE_VALUE)
ELSE NULL
END
Any help with what is happening would be appreciated.

Thank you both for you help. I initially tried to use the expression operator but was confused since the expression builder in the expression operator has the drop down list with the available SQL clauses greyed out. In the OWB documentation it states that the drop down will contain SQL clauses that are appropriate for that expression type so when I saw it was greyed out I assumed that those clauses where not valid for this operator. Sure enough though when I pasted in my Case statement it verified correctly.

Drill Down in Map Report

I've been trying to get drill down reporting working in a map report I've created an can't seem to get things to behave properly. So far, I've done everything I've read in several posts, but yet drill don still isn't functional.
Here's what I've done:
- Downloaded esri file from online and imported the spatial data in my SQL Server
- Created a map report using spatial data as a source for the map. I also have a dataset based on an Analysis Services query...Sales by State. Each figure has a corresponding state abbreviation. Below is the map report. The map report takes one parameter:
Year. The report is a color analytical map. Colors vary based on sales amount and year.
Below is the map display:
I have a second report called SalesByState that takes two parameters: State and Year.
What I would like to happen is when a user clicks on a state, they are taken directly to the report that lists detail information based on the year and the state chosen in the first map report. The year isn't getting passed to the second report nor is the
state clicked on.
When I set up the Action tab in the Polygon Properties dialog, I'm not seeing the dataset values as available as a parameter. When trying to give an expression for the state parameter, I get an error:
=First(Fields!STUSPS.Value, "SQLSpatialData") saying "Unknown Collection Member".
The STUSPS field is the state abbreviation.
Not sure what I'm missing here!

Please refer to the steps below:
Subreport:
Add two datasets in the report: Spatial data, ContactState.
Add a parameter in the report named SpatialData. Please refer to the following Available Values:
Dataset: Spatial data
Value field: STUSPS
Label field: STUSPS
Add a table in the report fill with specify data.
Right click the table, select Tablix Properties.
Click Visibility in the left pane. Select “Show or hide based on an expression” option, and type following expression:
=IIF(Parameters!STUSPS.Value="ID" ,False,True)
(Note: It is use parameter’s value to control the tablix visibility.)
Main report:
Based on your map design, click the PointLayer arrow in the Map Layers dialog box, select Point Properties.
Click Action in the left pane. Select “Go to report” option.
Select the specific subreport below “Specify a report”.
Click Add, please refer to these values below:
Name: SpatialData (Subreport Parameter’s name) Value: [STUSPS]

"SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services does not support map report items"

Hi,
I am trying some new feature that are introduced in SQL Server 2008 R2 version. While I try to use "Map" control within it, it threw the following error:-
"Error 1 The map, Map1, was removed from the report. SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services does not support map report items. "
-Also, similar kind of error I am getting for "Indicator" control.

I think you get this error message when you are deploying a report to report server using BIDS, correct? If not, please provide more details on your scenario :-)
If I guessed correctly, then this message is a result of trying to deploy a map report (a SSRS 2008 R2 feature) to a non-R2 2008 report server. When deploying a report of RDL2010 format to a non-R2 report server, BIDS will downgrade the file to RDL2008 format, so that the non-R2 report server can process it. Any report elements using features not supported in RDL2008 will be dropped during this downgrade process.
BIDS gets the server version from a report project property called TargetServerVersion:

If your report server is indeed the 2008 R2 version, then the TargetServerVersion property should be set to "SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services." The project property page also has a "Auto Detect..." option if you are uncertain about the version of your report server.

Warning Msg: Character Mode report is being opened as a Bit-mapped report

Hi All,
I am opening a Oracle Standard Report in Oracle Apps "INVISMMX", while opening it shows the below warning message:
"Character Mode report is being opened as a Bit-mapped report"
What is the reason for this?
How can I open this report in ASCII mode itself?

I believe Oracle Reports by default will open a report as a bit-mapped report. You can change the poperties of the report to make it a character mode report by:
1. If this is a new report, in the Object Navigator, click the Reports node,
then click in the toolbar.
2. Double-click the properties icon next to the report node to display
the Property Palette.
3. Under the report node, set the width and height properties as desired:
for example, 11 (or 15) width x 8.5 height for landscape or 8.5 width x 11
(or 15) height for portrait.
4. Under the Character Mode node:
a. Set Design In Character Units to Yes.
b. Set the report width and report height to the appropriate
character-mode dimensions for the report, such as, 132 (or 180)
width x 66 height for landscape or 102 width x 85 (or 116) height
for portrait.
5. In the Object Navigator, expand the Data Model node, then the System
Parameters node.
6. Double-click the MODE properties icon to display the Property Palette.
7. Under the Parameter node, set the initial value for property to Character.
8. In the Object Navigator, double-click on the Layout Model node icon.
9. In the Layout Model view, choose FormatLayout OptionsRulers to display
the Ruler Settings dialog box.
10. Set Units to Character Cells and Number of Snap Points Per Grid Spacing
to 1. Click OK.
11. Click View in the menu bar and make sure that Snap to Grid is checked.
12. Choose Tools Preferences to display the Preferences dialog box.
13. On the Preferences page, set Horizontal Interfield to 1 and Vertical
Interfield to 0. Click OK.
14. Choose Format Font, and select the font, style, and size that most
closely approximates the character-mode font (such as, Courier,

How to Execute a OWB Mapping or a Process from SQLPLUS editor?

I need to know how can we execute a OWB mapping from SQLPLUS editor or from a Stored Procedure.

Hi,
You can use the MDL export/import utility for this, but as you are importing into the same repository you will end up with importing into the same project again.
So for this you can follow the workaround as:
->Take export of the required mapping from the project OWB_B
-> Rename the Project OWB_B to some thing like OWB_B_1(or any other name), note that you have to rename both logical and physical name of the project
-> Rename the project OWB_A to OWB_B and if you import the MDL all the objects will be imported to OWB_B then you can rename back the project to OWB_A
-> Finally rename the project OWB_B_1 to OWB_B (to its original name).

Transformations not occuring properly using PIVOT operator in OWB mapping.

In our project we have a OWB Map UII_D_MAP_SPC_CUST_FAULT_NATTR which is used to populate UII_CUSTOMER_FAULT table in our target side.
The source table which populate UII_CUSTOMER_FAULT is SR_S_TABLE_N_ATTRIBUTEVALUE (a materialized view in another External Db)
This Mview has 2 columns: S_N_STRINGVALUE & N_NAME.
When N_NAME is 'FAULT_REPORT_CODE' the corresponding S_N_STRINGVALUE value should populate the REPORT_CODE field in UII_CUSTOMER_FAULTin the target sde.
This source to target transformations is being done by using UNPIVOT operator in this mapping UII_MAP_SPC_CUST_FAULT_NATTR.
In ideal case when S_N_STRINGVALUE is NOT NULL, REPORT_CODE value should be populated with the value of source field value (ie the value of S_N_STRINGVALUE) and when S_N_STRINGVALUE is NULL , REPORT_CODE should be populated with 'XX'.
But in some cases REPORT_CODE value in UII_CUSTOMER_FAULT table is populated as NULL when S_N_STRINGVALUE is NOT NULL
which should not happen.
We suspect that there is some prpblem in the UNPIVOT operator, but we are not able to track down the exact location where it is failing. Can you please help in resolving this problem?
Shall we remove Unpivot operator and use CASE statement in some package that will be called through Expression operator?
Please advise.

I have posted my SQL which got generated. The problem is when I am running the SQL just for the particular data set, it is giving the output properly. But what confuses me more is, when I run the mapping just for few records, it is populating the values correctly, but when running the mapping for all the records, then it populates null values for those records.

SQL Query of an OWB map (row based)

If I trace a session, execute an OWB map (row based), will the trace file contain the actual SQL query ?
The problem with me is that when I am executing this row -based OWB map, it is throwing me an error CursorFetchMapTerminationRTV20007 BUT ( plus taking a long time) when I am taking out the intermediate SQL insert query,it is working fine ( and also within a very short period of time)

No. task errors = 0
No. task warnings = 2

Since this OWB map (Truncate Insert) is row based hence I cannot cannot get the back end query from the OWB generated pl/sql package so wondering if I trace the session, check the trace file, may be I will able to see the exact SQL query generated. But wanted to confirm the same.

Yes, the actual SQL run in the session will be in the trace file.
