OWB on windows - load in linux database

Hello,
Now that I have understood that I need to create a repository owner in the database where I load my data, I'm facing another problem :
Using the repository assistant from windows, I have tried to create a repository owner on a linux database, but there is a step named "Oracle home for the OWB Installation" where I am blocked. The error message globally says that I need to install OWB on the linux machine.
So my question is : do I don't understand the message or do I really need to install OWB on the linux machine even if I have the product installed on a windows server ?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,
You need to install the repository on the target database (linux). You just install the client on your windows machine.
You need to download the OWB binaries (.gz file) from oracle website matching your linux configuration (hardware/software) and unzip and place it under some directory in linux.
Lets say /oracle/owb10gr2
When you unzip you should see /oracle/owb10gr2/owb.. and all the other directories
You can install the OWB repository using your windows client . When you reach step "Oracle home for the OWB Installation"
give the path of your OWB home on linux i.e /oracle/owb10gr2
i hope this helps.
Regards,
Sam.

  • Problem in OWB: connecting to a non-oracle database

    Good day,
    i'm working on a windows 32 bit machine,i have Oracle database , OWB 11.2.0.1 installed on it
    i'm trying to make OWB connect to a "Sybase" source database on another server , using ODBC
    i've tested the connection from SQLPLUS and it's working perfectly
    but when i test the connection from OWB locations , it gives me this error:
    "ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
    [OpenLink][ODBC][SQL Server]Statement(s) could not be prepared (0)
    {42000}[OpenLink][ODBC][SQL Server]"DUAL" not found. Specify owner.objectname
    or use sp_help to check whether the object exists (sp_help may produce lots of
    output).
    (208) {42S02,NativeErr = 208}
    my questions are :
    -why would OWB check for DUAL table on a sybase database? is that a bug in OWB?
    -can i bypass this step and just import metadata from the sybase source database? (i tried importing,but OWB performs the same test before importing)

    Hi Chris,
    I haven't tried it, and these are just some of my thoughts, but I
    think you would need to load the JDBC driver for the other database
    into the Oracle database (using the "loadjava" tool, of-course).
    Then your java stored procedure should be able to instantiate the
    third party JDBC driver and obtain a connection to the other database.
    Hope this helps.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Dual booting pre-installed Windows 8 and Linux?

    I just bought a G780 with Windows 8 pre-installed. Ideally, I would also like to install some flavor of Linux. I've been searching but not finding much info on how difficult or time-consuming this would be, or if there are any special considerations or anything. I've found some guides on dual-booting Windows 8 and Linux but they were all for installing Windows straight from a disk, not anything where it's already pre-installed, and some indicated they thought it might be problematic to use a pre-installed version of Windows. Anyway I was hoping that if anybody has done this on the G780 or even a similar laptop that you could share how it went and any difficulties you encountered. I'm open to using any Linux distro if it'll be easy to install. I would appreciate any info you could share. Thanks.

    I had issues with Windows 8 as pre-installed on my G580, my employer at the time was using Windows 7 only and would not allow upgrades for security purposes.  I deleted the entire drive (including hidden) knowing at some point I would re-install Windows 8 or later from retail disk when needed.
    Linux can resize partitions during the install process, but be careful not to disturb the hidden partition or the windows boot loader in the process.  Linux Mint is the best yet for this purpose, OpenSUSE and Fedora failed, CentOS failed and Ubuntu was not able to boot, but did not "hurt" the windows partitions.
    Good luck.

    I changed my password to my database connection in Jdeveloper and compiled my .war file and run in JBOSS under windows 2000 and windows98. It is ok without any problem. That's for testing purpose.
    So after that when i put in Jboss running under linux (which is for daily operation) the problems occured:

    anyone know how to solve this?
    i've checked out bc4j.xcfg to look for whether i have changed to the correct user name and password and it is all right.
    It ran perfectly under windows 2000 and windows 98 and linux but ever since i have change the password, it only run on windows 2000 and windows98. Anyone have solution to that? Your help is very much appreciated. =)

  • Upgrade repository 9i windows to 10gR2 Linux

    I've got a 9i repository on a windows platform that I want to move to a 10gR2 Linux platform. The 10gR2 linux platform doesn't have the developer suite installed. Where do I start?

    Essentially use are just moving the repository database on Linux. The software for Designer only exists on Windows. You would therefore (briefly):
    - Export your existing repository using the 9i designer software.
    - Install the new designer 10g software on a Windows PC and set up the SQL*Net connection to the unix platform.
    - Use the Designer admin tools in 10g to do the import with the data going onto the linux database.
    That's only me thinking on the fly - you should read the migration guide so tell you exactly how to create the new repository. I'd have both in parrallel and switch off the 9i version once everything has migrated sucessfully.

  • Install PT8.53 with Linux Issue: Windows NetMgr and Linux NetMgr

    Folks,
    Hello. I am installing PeopleTools 8.53 Internet Architecture. Database Server is Oracle Dabase 11gR1. OS is Oracle Linux 5. I have installed JDK7, WebLogic 10.3.6, Tuxedo 11gR1 and PeopleTools 8.53 successfully into Oracle Linux 5.
    I have been setting up PeopleTools8.53 Database. Because the Install Wizard has problem, I set up PeopleTools 8.53 Database manually using Oracle starter database instance PT853. I have run the following scripts:
    1) utlspace.sql
    2) dbowner.sql
    3) ptddl.sql
    4) psadmin.sql
    5) psroles.sql
    6) connect.sql
    Then, we need to run Data Mover script in a Windows Client machine to populate PeopleTools Database instance PT853 in Linux Sever machine. I have installed Oracle Database 11gR2 client for 32-bit Windows in my 64-bit Windows XP Virtual Machine. Now, I confront 2 VMs' connection issue as below:
    In Linux Server Machine Net Manager:
    Service Name: PT853
    Connection Type: Database Default
    Protocol" TCP/IP
    Host Name: localhost.localdomain
    Port Name: 1521
    Listener: LISTENER
    Protocol: TCP/IP
    Host: localhost.localdomain
    Port: 1521
    I test the Service PT853 using UserID "SYSADM" and Password "SYSADM". The connection is successful.
    In Windows Client machine, the information in Net Manager is the same, but the connection is not successful. Its details are as below:
    Net Service Name: PT853
    Protocol: TCP/IP
    Host name of Database Machine: localhost.localdomain
    Port Number: 1521
    Database Service Name: PT853
    Connection Type: Database Default
    I test the Service using UserID "SYSADM" and Password "SYSADM" that are the same with Linux, but get this error: TNS: listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.
    My questions are:
    Do we need to do something to connect Windows XP with Linux at first ? If yes, How to do it ? If no, how to solve the above issue ?
    Thanks.

    Folks,
    Hello. Thanks a lot for replying.
    Regarding PeopleSoft networking, I have done Configuration Manager to enable Data Mover and Application Designer to login into Database Instance PT853.
    Regarding 2 Virtual Machines (Windows XP and Oracle Linux 5) connects with each other, I have done the following:
    First, I follow this tutorial http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/ws_devices_serial_2vms.html to configure 2 VMs for Windows 7 Host.
    Second, in Windows XP Oracle Database Client Install Directory, the file "tnsnames.ora" has one entry that is the Service Name in Net Manager. In Linux Oracle Database Server install directory, the file "tnsnames.ora" has no entries because I installed Oracle Database Server with the starter Database instance PT853.
    I have tried to test 2 VMs in the way as below:
    In Linux, [user@localhost ~]$ping WindowsHostName
    Its output: unknown host WindowsHostName
    In Windows XP Command Prompt:
    C:\ping localhost.localdomain
    Its output: pinging localhost.localdomain 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data...
    Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time=2ms, TTL=128
    It replies a few times and then disconnected by itself. It seems that Windows XP is pinging itself and not Linux Server. The hostname of Linux Server is "localhost.localdomain" as well. It's a kind of confusing to me.
    From the above infromation, we  can see 2 VMs cannot connect with each other. Net Manager in Windows XP Oracle Client cannot connect its Service PT853.
    I don't understand how to connect Oracle Client in Windows with Oracle Database Server in Linux. Can any folk help to solve this issue ?
    Very grateful in advanced.

    A couple of things that are important:
    refind_linux.conf should be in the same directory as vmlinuz-linux and the initrd so it should be in /boot/ since that is where your kernel is.
    In your refind.conf stanza you have the line volume "EFI system partition" which tells rEFInd that the loader is in that partition whereas the kernel and initrd files seem to be in /boot/ which is not the EFI System Partition. Hence the volume line needs to specify the filesystem where /boot is which in your case appears to be /dev/sdb5 so the volume line in that case should be volume "root" since root is the filesystem label for sdb5? Note that if you update to rEFInd version 0.8.0 or later then you can use the partuuid value to specify the volume but in the version you are using that token for the volume was not yet implemented.
    In the stanza you quoted there was no terminating } but maybe you just didn't copy it to your post.
    Making these changes may let the system boot to the arch kernel.

  • How can i load file into database from client-side to server-side

    i want to upload file from client-side to server-side, i use the following code to load blob into database.
    if the file is in the server-side, it can work, but if it in the client-side, it said that the system cannot find the file. i think it only will search the file is in the server-side or not, it will not search the client-side.
    how can i solve it without upload the file to the server first, then load it into database??
    try
    ResultSet rset = null;
    PreparedStatement pstmt =
    conn.prepareStatement ("insert into docs values (? , EMPTY_BLOB())");
    pstmt.setInt (1, docId);
    pstmt.execute ();
    // Open the destination blob:
    pstmt.setInt (1, docId);
    rset = pstmt.executeQuery (
    "SELECT content FROM docs WHERE id = ? FOR UPDATE");
    BLOB dest_lob = null;
    if (rset.next()) {
    dest_lob = ((OracleResultSet)rset).getBLOB (1);
    // Declare a file handler for the input file
    File binaryFile = new File (fileName);
    FileInputStream istream = new FileInputStream (binaryFile);
    // Create an OutputStram object to write the BLOB as a stream
    OutputStream ostream = dest_lob.getBinaryOutputStream();
    // Create a tempory buffer
    byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
    int length = 0;
    // Use the read() method to read the file to the byte
    // array buffer, then use the write() method to write it to
    // the BLOB.
    while ((length = istream.read(buffer)) != -1)
    ostream.write(buffer, 0, length);
    pstmt.close();
    // Close all streams and file handles:
    istream.close();
    ostream.flush();
    ostream.close();
    //dest_lob.close();
    // Commit the transaction:
    conn.commit();
    conn.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {

    Hi,
    Without some more details of the configuration, its difficult to know
    what's happening here. For example, what do you mean by client side
    and server side, and where are you running the upload Java application?
    If you always run the application on the database server system, but can't
    open the file on a different machine, then it sounds like a file protection
    problem that isn't really connected with the database at all. That is to
    say, if the new FileInputStream (binaryFile) statement fails, then its not
    really a database problem, but a file protection issue. On the other hand,
    I can't explain what's happening if you run the program on the same machine
    as the document file (client machine), but you can't write the data to the
    server, assuming the JDBC connection string is set correctly to connect to
    the appropriate database server.
    If you can provide some more information, we'll try to help.

  • Could not load data from database after adding a query

    Dear all,
    I have a working crystal reports 2011 report. This report get its data from a BW 7.01 system provided by three bex queries. Everything works as expected but not I have to add a fourth query to the report then I get the following messages:
    I try to translate it because I user the german version:
    INFORMATION: In this report a stored procedure is used. Ensure that no SQL expression was added and no grouping on server side will be done.
    WARNING: Data could not be load from the database.
    WANING: Invalid argument provided. Details: The key figure structure isn't a valid field for report generation. Use instead the real keyfigures with teir units.
    Has anyone an idea what can be the reason for my issue?
    Thanks and regards!

    hi Gerrit,
    a couple of questions...
    1) are you adding all 3 queries (and then the 4th) in the same data connection or are each of these additional queries in a subreport?
    2) if all 3 queries (and then the 4th) are in the same data connection are you linking them?
    3) most importantly, if you create a brand new report off of the 4th query, is it successful?
    it's been quite a while since I've worked with bex queries but in general adding multiple queries (or stored procs or commands or combinations thereof)  to the same report is probably not a good idea. there ends up being a lot of processing happening in the crystal reports designer itself as a large virtual record set is created by the individual queries.

    Hi,
    The trouble in "<default>:"  - if you set XML_PATH as C:\DATA_FILE\www.xml instead  <default>:C:\DATA_FILE\www.xml- it will work correctly.
