OWB Repository Install Question

Hi all
I am assigned to oracle ERP project and
owb has to be installed for bis/edw.
at the owb 2.x version, when repository install , following menu appeared
'which operation would you like to perform ?
create a new BIS Repository
Drop an existing BIS Repository'
But owb 9i,
Upper menu not appeared.
In owb 9i version , Isn't it devied BIS and non-BIS user repository ?
and
when i created a repository for Oracle ERP,
is there any different function from Non-Oracle ERP repository ?

Hi Jae Hyun,
In OWB9i there is no distinction between a BIS user and a non-BIS user. Reading your question I expect you are installing the product at a new customer site. Please refer to patch sets 2182987 and 2420974 that are available through Metalink. These patch sets contain documentation on the steps to go through. To manipulate data in the Apps repository you would use the BI assistant.
When OWB is installed for Oracle Applications some of the settings are changed compared to the release that general customers use. I.e. if you would like to build your own data warehouse using OWB I recommend you install OWB in a separate Oracle home, build a new repository and use that for your own project. In that case you would use all settings non-Apps customers use.
Hope this helps,
Mark.

  • OWB Runtime repository installing error

    Hello
I'm a newbie here and in Oracle world. I'm student who tries to learn Oracle Warehouse Builder use on freetime, so any help would be appriciated.
So the problem is, always when i try to install Runtime Repository (using OWB Runtime Assistant) i get the same error message. The error message refers to log and the log is as follows:

So if anybody could assist me, i would be forever grateful...
    Thanks for advance....

This is a bug 3043523, affecting non-English repository installs. It's documented and fixed in 9.2.0.4 patchset. For a customer I would say patch to 9.2.0.4 before attempting to create the runtime repository. But I figured you don't have access to the patches, since they are distributed through Oracle Support's site metalink.oracle.com, where only Oracle customers can login to. So would it be an option for you to install the English language repository?

  • Cannot Install OWB Repository objects.

I use OWB Repository Assistant after finished Installing BO 10.1.0.2.0.
I filled the User Name field as SYS and surely another fields are correct. But I got the result as
INS0003: OWB Repository Installation cannot continue without DBA privileges. Connect as DBA and use option Create a New Warehouse Builder Repository to continue the process.
How should I do to solve this problem.

This appears to be a locking issue and looking at our Support database it is resolved in 10gR1 and 10gR2 versions of the database but remains on 9i although a warning dialog should be shown. Even so the installation should continue and should be successful.
Do you have AQ running? This sometimes causes this error to occur. I think in the 10gR1 documentation this locking issue was documented and it was supposed to be added to the 10gR2 doc (I need to check to this).
To figure the lock from Repo Asst code, use the following:
    select distinct
    s.sid,
    s.serial#,
    s.username,
    x.kglnaobj as objectname
    from
    dba_kgllock l,
    v$session s,
    x$kgllk x
    where
    l.kgllktype = 'Pin' and
    s.saddr = l.kgllkuse and
    s.saddr = x.kgllkuse and
    x.kglnaobj like '%DBMS_LOCK%';
If this returns rows, display the warning with a suggestion to connect to SQLPlus and issue the following statement (where SID, Serial are what came back from the query)
    ALTER SYSTEM KILL SESSION 'SID, Serial';
    e.g.
ALTER SYSTEM KILL SESSION '13, 8'
    That might solve the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to create an OWB Repository in a database

By default a database will have a repository installed into it. One has to create a workspace using Repository assistant within the repository.
    database> repository> workspace
    Question:
    1. How can I create a new repository [either in same or a new database]?
    2. Can one database have multiple repositories or is it limited to only 1?
    Thanks!

    >
Also, on 10g, how do I go about creating a repository.
Please note I'm aware of using Repository assistant to:
    create workspaces on 11g and
create repository owners on 10g [we create owners and not workspaces on 10g]
In both the cases where do I define a specific repository, where do I give the name of repository etc.
In 10g ,OWB Owner is nothing but the schema which holds OWB repository
If you are creating a new OWB Owner that means it is a new repository.
If you are creating/registering a new OWB user when you can choose an existing OWB repository/owner to which the new user will be associated with.
    Thanks,

  • Move OWB Repository from a srvr running 9.2.0.6 to a srvr running 10.1.0.2

I am attempting to move an existing OWB repository from a DB on a server running 9.2.0.6 to a DB on a server running 10.1.0.2. The Target and source servers are running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. All OWB components are 9.2. Until now all DB components are 9.2.0.6. The target server is running HTML DB using 10G. I am reluctant to have two production database levels on the target server, but I will if I have to.
I want to move the instance. What is the best way to accomplish this? There are several ways and I want to follow the course that will:
    1) Be a straight forward install
    2) Be maintainable
    3) Require the least interaction with multiple clients
    4) Assure that OWB and Workflow will work with the source/target DBs
I realize that this is a complex question and I have not fully described all of the moving parts, but I hope this provides sufficient information to start working towards a solution. If I left any pertinent information out, I would be happy to provide the information to flesh out this issue.
    Thanks in advance, RJZ

    Hi,
If you want to avoid running 2 database level you will need to upgrade your OWB repository to 10 (done via OWB export/import) and all OWB clients also (both of which contravene many of your 4 requirements). We went through this process last year (from 9 to 10 for database and OWB) and found a couple of issues during testing requiring changes. It would be best also to redeploy all OWB code to your target 10 database if you take this option.
There is a lot more I could say, if you have any specific questions or want more info, I'd be happy to help.

  • Cannot Create OWB Repository Owner

    Hello All,
On windows XP pro, 32 bit, the following tasks were completed (clean system, 1.5 gig ram and dual core)
    - Installed 9.2.0.1 Server
    - Installed 9.2.0.6 Patch
    - Installed Oracle Worflow + and created workflow user
    - Installed OWB_10.2.0.1.win.zip
All seemed to be fine until attempting to create the OWB repository owner using the Repository Assistant
    Problem 1)
The Repository Assistant froze after being given the user details for the repository owner.
I found a fix (read Hack) for this that I am including FYI. The issue relates to the view dba_kgllock which was force created against objects that do not exist. To solve this I used TOAD to find the script used to create the view, deleted the view and created an empty table with the same columns.
This is a complete hackbut allowed OWB Repository Assistant. All then continued and was looking good until about 60% complete.
    Problem 2)
At approx 60% installation fails with a socket read fail within java.
Thats it, I've stopped dead now, going to continue installation attempts in the morning. If anybody out there can help I would be very greatful.

This appears to be a locking issue and looking at our Support database it is resolved in 10gR1 and 10gR2 versions of the database but remains on 9i although a warning dialog should be shown. Even so the installation should continue and should be successful.

  • This is good while running OWB repository assitant

    hi friends
if u face to this propblem while running OWB repository assitant :
Exception occurred in 'processSPAWN'.java'lang.Exception: Error: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.sqlSQLException: OWBSYS is not granted access to c:\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\/owb/bin/admin/rtrepos.propterties: Please run UnifiedRepos/reset_owbcc_home.sql specifying the path of the Oracle Home from which the Control Center Service is being run.
    follow in this way :
First, unlock the OWBSYS user account and assign a password.
Second, edit the reset_owbcc_home.sql script with the following entry and then save the file:
    dbms_java.grant_permission('OWBSYS','java.io.FilePermission',path||'\owb\bin\admin\rtrepos.properties','read,write');
    ( take a look @ this link :
    http://ezinearticles.com/?ORA-29532-Error-During-Oracle-11g-Warehouse-Builder-Install-on-Microsoft-Vista&id=1235302 )
    then
check OWBSYS privilages : be sure this user has these privilages : grant any object privilage and grant any privilage
these privilages are not in cat_owb.sql and sometimes after creating a new DB are not default privilage for OWBSYS user .
pls inform me if u have any comment .
    cheers

    Hi,
the first look at Oracle Univeral Installer logfile for details on error.
Reason for this error can be (for example) inappropriate database instance configuration.
Check that you configured your database according installagion guide
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31080_01/doc/install.102/b28224/reqs01.htm#BABFEHDB
What exact OWB release are you using - 10g R1 or 10g R2.
As I remember it is impossible install base release 10g R1 (10.1.0.2) on Oracle Database 10g R2
(this is supported only from OWB 10.1.0.4).

    Oleg

  • OWB repository

    Hi all,
I'm doing a fresh installation of OWB. I have 2 servers and I want to install the OWB in one server and OWB Repository in the other.
There is any way to do this? I'm using 11g R2.
    Thanks!

Yes, it is possible. See [Implementing a Remote Runtime|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/owb.111/b31280/install_rep02.htm#BABJDHCJ] in OWB Installation Guide (it seems that your case is "Control Center Service Installed on a Dedicated Computer")
But drawback of this architecture - you need to start Control Center service manualy from dedicated computer (from server with OWB software)
    Regards,
    Oleg

  • OWB Repository tables

Can anyone tell me where can i get information about OWB repository tables created in the database when we install OWB.
I basically want to know what each table does??
tables for eg. wb_rt_tasks, wb_rt_errors etc...
Edited by: Commander on Sep 25, 2008 4:40 AM

    Hi,
if you will have this information you can sell it! ;-) The repository is not documented very well. When you work with the owb some years you will know something about it, but not everything. And often you need informations from more than one table, because the information is splitted in many pieces (relational tables!). And the constraints are not documented. And in 11g the repos has changed very much!
    Good luck,
    regards

    Dear All,
Im getting an error when configuring owb repository, this error raising at OWBSYS Information step. following is the error im getting
OWB software with the compatible version must be installed locally on the database server machine. If it is already installed, please acquire the DBA user credentials, and run the SQL script owb/uUnifiedRepos/remote_owb_install.sql. on the database server machine. This creates a database directory named 'OWB_REMOVE_ADMIN' that the remote installation will access to read the database servers OWBHOME/owb/bin/admin directory. Relaunch the repository Assistant or execute OWB scripting command OMBSEED top seed the repository.
Im trying to create repository on a database in another remote server. below are the my system details...
    Machine 1
    OS:Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit)
    Database: Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    Machine 2
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit)
    Database: Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 32bit Production
since i couldn't open design center in 64 bit environment im using the design center installed in 32 bit. where am i going wrong? what will be the ideal solution for this?
    thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    The error is self explanatory.
If you are doing repository installation on remote server you have to run the script <OH>/owb/uUnifiedRepos/remote_owb_install.sql(where OH is Oracle Home) in order to set the remote OWB home.
So as suggested in the error message itself you need to connect to the database as any DBA user and run the script remote_owb_install.sql and do the repository installation.
    Regards,
    Pnreddy.

  • OWB repository on mysql

    hello
is it possible to have OWB repository on mysql database ? if not is it possible on oracle xe ?
    many thanks

I'd recommend reviewing the licensing guide for the database, and/or contact Oracle for questions on the license required before creating your own database. If you are covered by an existing license (paid-for license or OTN developer license) for the database and the database version you're using is listed as supported for creation of the OWB repository then you can certainly go ahead and then connect to the 10gR2 data source.
The current OWB release can use database version 10.2.0.4 thru 12.1 for the repository and runtime. Depending on the version of the database hosting the runtime service, OWB can connect directly (via dblink) to oracle versions from 8.1.7.4 thru 12.1 (I don't believe the full range of versions is possible from any single version except possibly 10.2.0.5, you'd need to check the client/server interoperability note on metalink for supported combinations).

  • OWB Repository Performance, Best Practice

    Hi
We are considering installing OWB repository in its own database, designed solely to the design repository to achieve maximum performance at the design center.
Does anyone have knowledge of best practice in setting up the database to OWB repository? (db parameters, block size and so on).
We are currently using Release 11.1.

    Klaus

You can found all this informations in the documentation. Just here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31080_01/doc/install.102/b28224/reqs01.htm#sthref48
You will find all Initialization Parameters for the Runtime Instance and for the design instance.

  • OWB repository assistant stucks 72 percent finished

Hello could anybody give suggestions what is the problem when I try to install my OWB repository and the installation always halts when theres 72 percent finished. I have Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 database and the OWB version is 9.2.0.2.8, operating system is Windows XP with sp1.
    Thank you

Please look in the file [OWB Home]\owb\reposasst\log.txt.0. Let us know if any errors or exceptions are present there, from your latest attempt. More tips on troubleshooting the installation are in here in the appendix of the OWB Install Guide http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B11000_02/apddiagn.htm#1005923

  • INS0003 OWB Repository Installation cannot continue without DBA privileges

    Hi:
I´ve installed oracle database 10120 and today installed oracle warehouse builder 10.1, the installation haven´t problems, but when i try to execute OWB Repository Assistant i have the follow message error:
INS0003 OWB Repository Installation cannot continue without DBA privileges
If i connect me to OEM and check the privileges for sys or system user don't have any problem if i connect me as sysdba.
I created a new user with all privileges and the error is the same.
How could i fix my problem?
    Thanks for your help.
    Alex.

This issue is normally caused because you have not setup sys to connect as sysdba per newer database setup procedures, test with connect "/ as sysdba" in sql*plus.
If you cannot connect from SQLPlus by just the '/ as sysdba' login, then check the Note 50507.1 via Metalink as this describes the different ways you can connect to Oracle as an
    administrative user.
    Hope this helps,
