Im going to make a site to advertise my own web site services now
taking on advice people have given me on here i want to get it all into one page
I was thinking having groups of related items inside a main fixed width containing DIV, and a different one of these fixed width divs for each thing
so on a small monitor the content would flow down on a large one things would appear side by side
2 questions however
1) What is an ideal width. I have always gone with 1024 since this is the minimum anyone is likely to have on a PC, others have recomended 1000 (not sure why) and i have even seen one site that uses 640 (the absolute minimum anyone will ever use on a PC?
2) With some monitors it could produce a situation where 4 items are equally high and one falls onto its own height. that will not look professional
how can i prevent this so that if such a thing happens it drops another object down even thou it would have fitted higher?
3) Some of the Divs may be of a different height to others. If say the 2nd div allong is 100 px longer than the first will the first item that is pushed down (and positioned under the first div) appear directly under it or 100px bellow it?
4) I am going to have a java effect that makes the DIV the mouse is over grow a little while its on mouse over. does this have any terrible flaws?

Depends on your demographic. High-end graphics afficionado types may want to see wider pages to fit their (presumably) wide browser viewports. Remember that screen resolution and screen width really are not the determining factors here. For general audiences, I think 960-1000px is good. That will give you a page that doesn't drop horizontal scrollbars on a maximized, 1024px wide viewport.

I don't understand this question. I also think you are worrying about things you can't control.
I thought you said "2 questions"?

Would have to see your code. In the absence of any other information, I'd say it will appear directly below it.

Hopefully, you mean JavaScript, not Java. The two are different as night and day. And to answer your question would require that we not guess about how you might be doing this.

Hi ben_burrowes, the disallow future dialogs checkbox appears on normal sites, no add-on required, but apparently some sites have found a way around it.
In a thread about a different inescapable website problem a user suggested gutting the page using the Inspector. I haven't tested it on the kind of page you're encountering, but here's how you would do it: right-click a blank area near the margin of the page, and choose Inspect Element (Q). This should open a panel with some element of the page's HTML code selected. You're looking for the <body> tag, scroll up if necessary, then right-click it and choose Delete Node. You also could delete the <head> node. There's a good chance this will cripple the script that's preventing you from leaving the page. Obviously not an approach you would want to have to use often, but you could practice it for potential emergencies.

Recently updated addons open their own page when I start Firefox

Every time I update an addon to a new version I get a page telling me I've successfully updated that particular addon whenever I start Firefox. It's is very irritating.
The pages don't appear in the Tools/Options/General/Home page box but they open every time I start the browser.
I already have a page for Colorful Tabs and another for Webmail Notifier and I can't disable them unless I disable the addons. However, I don't think this is an addon problem, but a Firefox one.

Some addons load their own page immediately after an update of that extension - once - to explain what the update is all about, such as new or improved features. If that page is being displayed more than once, something is wrong in Firefox prefs.
If you don't want those pages displayed ever, you'll have to check with support for each extension that does that, to see how that "first run" page can be turned off for each each extension. I am not aware of a "standard" pref that covers every extension that does it, and I don't either of the two extensions installed that you mentioned to be able to look for a pref like that.

You need a unique AppleID for each iCloud account. So grab some free gmail, hotmail, aol, yahoo or whatever email addresses to make five new AppleIDs. How to manage hyperlinks to own pages?

I have used iWeb many years and developed several websites. Some of them have dozens and even hundreds of pages. The problem is that always when I'm linking a page to my other own pages I must drop down the complete Own Pages menu. I have to come through all other older website pages, which haven't anything to do with my current project. As I know there are not any way to close the other pages to their own folders or something, but they are always there. I can't save the older pages to their own files at my computer and import them back when I need them. Does anybody know a solution to this?

To expand on what Robert suggested I use iWebSites to manage over 75 individual sites. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

Links to my own pages

I'm having trouble with hyperlinks in iWeb 08. I've built my site and it shows that all the links are active (with the blue arrow). When I click on them, all the pages go to where they are supposed to go (all to other pages in my own site). However, when I post it to a folder to check it before I go live, SOME of the links don't work - but some of them do.
Help!?

Hi, I've got some problems while I am publishing my web the content of other sites doesn't appear on line. it means that the other sites are opened by the same one for example home page http://web.mac.com/jawaf/iWeb/AmelYachtCharter/Home.html
on iweb everything is in order and each page is different. does anyone know how to sort it out.

Web Service not allowing me to visit own page

I started up the apache web service and tells me that my local page is http://192.168.123.102/~steven/ and when i try to acess this on my local network I get a "cannot find server error" even when i'm trying to acess it on the same computer its being hosted on. what is going on?

yes i did just that I cannot connect on my local network to my own website using the address provided (http://localhost/~steven) or my computer website at (http://localhost/) I have configured my router to foward incomming Http and https traffic from the web to my local server, however if i can't acess my website locally, i wouldn't be able to acess it from the web either.

Can't load my own pages with .htaccess protection

It's very strange.
First time I noticed that problem was on a project page who I created. The page is not for the public access, so I decide to protect it simply with an htaccess file and it works without any problems for a long time in Safari until that point who I make a little mistake by typing the username or password and let Safari safe this wrong information. Since them I was not longer able to reach the page with Safari, but still with other browsers.
So I can life with that, because it's not an importend page who I visit each day.
But now I have a nother page who deliver the same problem. The logininfos are safed by Safari and no longer access since two days now. Before it works perfect.
The only real change who I do was to fix the permissions of a folder inside the Safari resources. The "German.lproj" folder. I do this, because I was not able to open the private settings in Safari. Each time who I click in the settings on the private option, Safari crashes. Anyway, since I add my profile to the permissions Safari works fine.
I can't belive that this change is the source for the problem. I try to delete all related pagestuff in my keychane of OS X Snow Leo (10.6.8), repair the keychane and repair the permissions over the Disc Utility. I also remove my complete Safari profile in the Library to reset Safari, delete the preferences, delete Safari with Clean App and reinstall it, but still can't access my pages with a htaccess protection.
All other pages working without any problem. All the pages are still available with other browsers.
Anyone an idea what I can try next?

OK, after a long time I solved my problem with the htacces and password protected pages.
But let me explain a bit more, why it need so much time.
After I post here at the board, I solved the problem over a simple resetting of Safari over the menu. After I do that, I got the login-window back.
But for some strange reason I got the problem back after a longer time. And now I got the idea to look a bit deeper, what can happen. I open my Console from OS X and take a view on "All announcements". Now I hit enter in Safari to open the page who have a htaccess protection and I got some error results. On of them was this here:

This message contain some german infos, so let me translate the last part.
The file „AuthenticationPanel.nib“ can't be open, because you have not the right permissions.
This error message looks like the big goal for me. I open this file-directory and mark the "German.lproj" folder to open the information panel for this folder. Now I go to the permission area, hit the "plus" button and add my profile / user to the permissions with a read and wrote permission. My new settings I transfer to all subfolders.
Now the final test in Safari. I open the URL again and, tadaaaa, it works very well now.
This is the same solution who I do before (see my first text on this posting) for the german.lproj folder. It looks like that Apples software like the Disc-Utility ignore the german folders around fixing the permissions or after an update or if you have trouble with the permissions.
Anyway... This two manual fixings bring my access back and I'm now happy :-)

Workspace user can't open a published Private Page or create his own Page

The end user is using version 11.1.2 of Hyperion Workspace.
My question is: Why can't this user create a Private Page or open a published Private Page from another user. When trying to open a published Priavte page from another user, the user gets this error message:
+"Unable to perform request+
+An error has occurred accessing a protected resource. You do not have the necessary permission.+
+Detailed Message: WSCommandProcessError+
+Recommended Action: Contact your local security administrator or resource owner."+
I have checked the security on this user in HSS, and made him Adm user for Work space, without solving this problem.
Can someone give me a hint on where to look or how to solve this issue?

Did you check if your app is set to maintenance mode in planning web console?
-Go for Administration-->application settings--->Application maintenance mode-->make sure the application is enabled for "all users".
If this happens for the first time after you create users, the security might not have refreshed to planning from shared services.
-Go for Administration-->Dimensions-->select a member-->assign access-->choose" Migrate Identites" ( this should refresh the security from shared services to planning).

But there is one drawback, which you probably know too.
Many of my clients, later (after creating my site) want to refresh the page
I have created a site, add, change, edit text, pictures ..
Do this via a third party is not always convenient and interesting.
for example, http://www.nabble.com/ this hole, as youtube.com and in terms of SEO-promote the works plus for the owner of the site.
Could you invent and develop the script of the widget html code that will allow the future owner of the site (my client), regardless of the third party, the edit page that you created me? Insert pictures, set the font style, size, ... perhaps, it must be some additional админский interface, which will be stored on the server from the client. I don't know.
Be sure whether this should be a database, integrable along with the website, or may be
somehow tie this base with your muse server?

If you are not on Windows then instead of Tools > Options use:
*Linux: Edit > Preferences
*Mac: Firefox > Preferences
*Windows: Firefox > Options or Tools > Options

Some sites not loading in their own pages, so I get no return or advance arrows, Why?

I try to advance to a new site from a selected page and the new page does not load separately or as an an individual page.
This has started since updating to 3.6.

My hunch is I have a couple of Safari add-ons like Safari Enhancer, Safari Plus & Safari Extender - as well as Adobe Photoshop CS 2 .... would anyone know if there are issues with these other applications or components and Flash in Safari ...?
Since your other user account does work the Safari add ons may be suspect.
Look in your Console when accessing the sites in question it may
provide clues.
Also what do you use for a mouse, if it is Logitech the software can introduce Ape components, which may or may not interfere with flash
on an intel mac.

HT2128 I write webpages and JavaScript files. Can I stop being warned about my own pages when I try to open them?

Whenever I try to open one of the web pages or JavaScript files I have written, the TextEdit program and every browser will warn me that it was recently downloaded, and is dangerous to open. It wasn't recently downloaded, I edited the document and saved it. Can I get the system to recognize my files, and not warn me about them? I don't mind being warned about other people's work -- it is comforting to know the system is watching out for me.
I recently upgraded to OS X Lion, and it happens since then.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these steps in order.
