P35 Neo doenst start

I'vd just bought a new mainboard and CPU, which are:
- mainboard MSI P35 Neo
- Intel Core Quad Q6600
and started building up a new system with my old components:
- ATI HD 3870 graphic
- 2 GB RAM DDR2 533
- 250GB Hardisk
Everything was in its place, but the system didnt work. When I turned the power on:
- CPU fan and Graphic fan started
- CPU fan stopped after 2 secs, and then run again
- I connected the keyboard to test, and it did get the power
- BUT still, nothing appear on the screen. No signal.
I tried to reset the BIOS. But nothing changed.
I was sure about the following:
- CPU fan connector was correctly connected.
- 24pin power supply and 4 pin power supply for mainboard connected
- 6 pin power supply for graphic card connected.
- Everything was firmly installed.
All the old components worked well on my old system. I even tested with new mainboard and old pen IV CPU, the result was the same.
I dont know what to do next to get over this problem. Please help me. Thank you alot

Don't worry, such things can happen to anybody. You missed a significant but yet rather minor detail. You did not try to squeeze a DDR(1) module into a DDR2 slot for example.

  • P35 Neo-FI: after flashing bios, Win XP won't start (BSOD)

    Hello board,
    I was a moron and did a bios upgrade from Windows, using Live Update 4. The flash seemed to finish normally. However, after the flash my Windows XP install wouldn't start, resulting in a blue screen of death ("Stop: 0x0000007E" etc). I used the rescue floppy to flash back to the (presumably) original bios version, with no change, still BSOD. I have been able to flash the bios again by using a bootable USB stick. (I couldn't use the Forum Flasher from my old notebook, so I used MSI's guide to creating a USB flash stick.)
    The version I flashed back to from the rescue floppy is 1.A0 (1.10). I'm not sure what the newer(?) version Live Update offered me was. I was confused with the version numbers and looked for a newer version manually. I ended up flashing to 1.19, downloaded from MSI's server (http://download1.msi.com/files/downloads/bos_exe/7360v19.zip), which is what I have now. Still same the problem. I've cleared up the CMOS several times, after most of these flashes (but not all).
    Starting a fresh XP install results in the same BSOD after first reboot (after copying files to the disk). I also booted up (in 1.A0/1.10) an old Linux Ubuntu Live CD, which gave this warning:
    "Warning! Your PnP BIOS caused a fatal error. Attempting to continue. You may need to reboot with the "nobiospnp" option to operate stably. Check your vendor for an updated BIOS. get_dev_node: unexpected status 0x28"
    I'd be grateful to any suggestions!
    The system in question: P35 Neo-FI, Core 2 Duo E4500, 2 * 1 GB Kingston DDR2 800, MSI Radeon HD 4670, Samsung 1614N IDE hard disk, an LG DVD drive, Corsair CX400 PSU.

    make sure you change the settings for ide/sata settings in bios.

  • MSI P35 Neo-F cmos checksum "bad"

    I bought the board mentioned in the title, and after putting my E5200 into it I realized that the MB didn't support it using the bios version it had in it. So, I used the AMI bios recovery thingy (http://www.msicomputer.com/support/BIOS_AMI_Recovery.asp) using floppy and after that I was able to boot it up properly.
    But after changing the bios settings a bit, I faced the exact same problem as the fellow here (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?;topic=125698.0). I understood that I'm forced to flash the bios again using the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing Tool mentioned in that topic.
    The problem here is that I can't use that flashing tool as I'm not able to get into Windows and use the tool. The tool won't work on my second comp as it doesn't have MSI MB in it.
    So what do I do to flash the bios? Any help would be appreciated.

    You have to reflash the BIOS the regular way (and you are not limited to the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing Tool (it is only an option).  The AMI BIOS Recovery Procedure is not a regular way to update your BIOS.  That CMOS Checksum Message you get after start-up is a known side effect.

    Here you go:
    1. Download the following tool.  Then install it on your second system:
    http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197
    2. Download the DOS-File.rar Archives that you find attached at the bottom of this post and unpack the files into a folder of your choice.
    3. Start the HP USB Format Tool and select "Create DOS Startup Disk".  Point the tool to the DOS-Files you just unpacked:
    Your USB Flash Drive should now be bootable.
    4.  Download the latest BIOS Version for your board:  http://download1.msi.com/files/downloads/bos_exe/7360v1A.zip  ... and copy the following files to the root directory of your USB Flash Drive: Afud408.exe (Flasher) and A7360IMS.1A0 (BIOS-File).
    5.  Hook up the just prepared USB Flash Drive to your P35 Neo-F and force it to boot from it.  Once you reach the DOS Command Prompt, type the following command to start the BIOS Flash:
    Afud408 A7360IMS.1A0 /P /B /N /C
    Once the procedure is over and you did not get any error messages, turn off your system, clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU.  After that, things should be back to normal if everything went fine.
    Note:  In order to force your P35 Neo-F to boot from the USB Flash Drive, disconnect all other drives so that the USB Flash Drive is the only bootable device connected to your system. When you get the CMOS Checksum Message after start-up, simply load defaults without entering BIOS Setup.  The system should then move on to booting DOS from your Flash Drive.

  • P35 Neo Combo, boot problem? [FIXED]

    ** PROBLEM SOLVED - Tech support told we that if there was any way to update the BIOS to version 1.3 then I should do that. I found a way and after that everything have been running smoothly.

    Some days ago I got some new hardware and put it all together but I ran into a big problem.
    Specs of the new machine:
    Case: Arctic Cooling T2 Pro, Miditower, 500W
    Psu name: AX-500F, specs:
    +12v: 14 A (15 A peak)
    +12v2: 16 A (19 A peak)
    +5v: 25 A
    +2.3v: 30 A
    -12v: 0.5 A
    +5vSB: 2.0 A (3.0 A peak)

    When I turned it on for the first time nothing happend, no picture no error sounds although I could see and hear that the computer was on. I turned it off and then on again, nothing, I turned it off and then on again and something happend.
    I got a red text message saying that my overclocking attempt was unsuccessful, which I found pretty odd cause this was the first time the computer was on. I have now been informed that it's a fail safe build into the BIOS to prevent a melt down if you overclock it too hard, which is kinda smart. I then had the option to go into the BIOS, so I looked at every setting to see if things were OK and if it was somehow overclocked or had some wrong settings.. Everything looked and still looks alright when I save and exit. When I do save and exit, be it with the settings I think is okay, the fail safe or optimized settings then the screen just goes black.
    So now for the 'clearing the CMOS' part When I reset the CMOS with the jumper I can get further than the error message about overclocking. I get two options:
    1. To enter BIOS setup to configure the bios.
    2. To automatically load some default settings and continue booting.
    First I tried option 1, after doing a save and exit the screen went black again, got the overclocking message and had to clear the CMOS one more time.
    Then I choose option 2, windows started to load, I got into safe mode and windows started to find all the new hardware and so on. When that was done I was kinda forced to reboot, screen went back and yes you guessed it... I had to clear the CMOS and choose options 2. I got as far as getting into windows and installed some of the stuff from the CD-rom's that came with the motherboard, again I was doomed to reboot and clear the CMOS. Once again option 2 needed to be selected to get the system up and running, and I got as far as to the "Want to activate windows" option, and couldn't do that cause the network card was not installed so I had no internet connectivity. Apparently if windows detect too much hardware being replaced then the activation thing pops up, and I later learned that I can't activate my windows anymore cause I used my activation quota and I have to get a new key
    What I learned from my brief time in windows normal mode:
    Everything seemed to work nicely, and freaking fast too....swiiing!
    2gb of ram was detected, running dual channel and at the desired voltage.
    The CPU was running at normal speed and voltage.
    All in all everything seemed normal until I rebooted.
    The only thing I can conclude is that something goes horribly wrong when I clear the CMOS, load some default settings and then reboot. I have seen that I am able to get into the system with my current hardware, but only after a CMOS clear, so what the heck is wrong, what goes wrong after the reboot?
    And this is as far as I can get with my own knowledge of computers :(
    So now I hope to go that I can get some help from some of you guys, any thoughts on this or anyone know of such a problem and maybe know a solution?
    If I missed some information you guys need to solve this puzzle then just ask.
    On a side note, if I somehow get the chance to flash my BIOS to version 1.3 in hope that if will solve my problem, then will it erase my chances to send it in for RMA and get a new board? Do I break any rules by doing that?

    usually this is due to the memory settings was set incorrectly (by the BIOS itself). You may need to manually change the memory settings and see if that helps. And, please make sure that your BIOS can support FSB1333 processor like E6750 out of the box. If not, try flashing to the latest BIOS.

    I did check if memory/cpu settings were okay and the seem to be on the right defaut setting. I save and exit and the screen just goes black. I forgot to add the motherboard and BIOS versions but they are there now: Mobo: MSI P35-NEO-Combo-F, Intel P35, Ver. 1.0, BIOS ver. 1.2
    I don't see how I will be able to flash the bios when I can't get into windows and do it, and there is no way else for me to do it. If it was the case that the BIOS didn't support FSB1333, then I would never have gotten as far as getting into windows and getting the activation message would I?

  • P35 Neo Combo F woes

    Hi all. 
    I am new to this forum so I hope I don't repeat an old topic (I have looked for this problem and don't see it specifically).
    Basically, I built a system for a brother 2 yrs ago using this MoBo with an Intel Quad 6550 and DDR2 800.  It worked fine for him until one day it just went into an endless cycle of starting and stopping, fans roaring but no boot up.  Long story made short, he had it worked on by some professionals in the Columbus, Oh area and after upgrading the bios to 1.3 and swapping RAM(which didn't work), they sold him a new Intel MoBo. 
    Well, I now have this Mobo (because I'm stubborn) in my rig and everytime I upgrade software or install a new component, it freaks.  But, I don't get the 'cycle' that I've read about.  In fact, I wish I did.  I could deal with that.  What it does for me is nothing but run the fans.  No HD accessing, no beeping, no post; nothing unless I turn off PS, pull the plug, and repeat until it will post, acknowledge the HD and boot up.  There is no set pattern to what will work either.  I have pulled the cord, discharged the capacitors, reset CMOS, and had nothing happen.  What really puzzles me (even more) is that when Windows restarts after maintenance or if I restart manually, the computer powers down completely and starts up again from scratch, maybe.  Sometimes when I let it set overnight, it will start up after the initial 'stutter.'
    When it boots up, it runs fine with default CMOS settings until powered down.  Sometimes it cycles once and takes off, other times not.  I have gotten no satisfaction from MSI other than 'send it in with $35 and we'll see what we can do.'  What I'm about to do is buy an Asus board and use this one as a Frisbee, but I do like it when it works........

    Sorry to ramble so much, I hope what I've said makes some sense.  I'm a retired auto tech, not a computer tech :-)

    im normally not recommending this, but is 1.3 the latest bios onboard?
    If so, might wanna update bios and see if that helps, there were some issues with powering down, memorycompatibility and other stuff.

    then look also here for biosfiles and other stuff that might come in handy, be sure to get the latest bios file, it incorporates all previous fixes.
    DONT use LiveUpdate, M-Flash or any other windows based biosupdating program, cause that might wreck your board.

  • P35 neo cold boots twice when powered on or warm booted

    Hi, I'm trying to figure out  what is happening with this board, when I turn on my computer it automatically shutsdown again for a sec or two and then comes back and boots ok. It does that also in a warm reboot.
    I've seen similar issues in other forum threads, but it's unclear the reason, I found opinions saying it's a power supply issue, others a boot check in the chipset does, and also bios related issues. I tried it in every possible way, the only fixed configuration was:
    - power cooler 500w psu
    - msi p35 neo
    - intel e4400 core 2 duo
    with combinations of:
    - memory
             - ocz ddr2 800 system elite (4 sticks 1gb each)
             - single ocz 1gb stick
             - two sticks
             - no memory
    - video
             - pcie msi nvidia 6200tc
             - old trident pci graphics card
             - no grachips card at all
    - hard disk
             - western digital 80gb sata2
             - no disk
    Also tried all the BIOS settings available to be enabled/disabled, hopelessly lost some more time with bios rev. 1.2, (other tests where with rev 1.0)
    The board is stable once it's up and running, but it's the first time I own a computer that has that strange behaviour and I don't know if I should return it or it is normal.
    Can someone please help me understand what's going on and point me to a solution?

  • MotherBoard Warranty (p35 neo-3)

    just a little question ,replacing the chip-set heat-sink (north bridge)will void the board warranty?
    im experiencing a very weird problem that i couldn't find any solution
    any hard-disk  even a brand new one will keep getting pending sectors using this board and im going to send it for warranty
    i replace the chip-set heatsink with a aftermarket one and i lost the original
    but i have an old  heatsink that looks the same with the original but the problem is it doesn't have the foil under the heat-sink (  the original one have)
    if i send this board with its north-bridge heat-sink different will it be denied for warranty?

    yes windows is very slow and having too many lockups but no blue-screens
    first the 500 gb sea-gate drive  stuttering problems even playing video (because  of too many read errors per second. i  clone my windows partition to my western digital drive stuttering problems gone but after 1 week of using it as  system drive it shows 137 relocated sectors count and i  asked for drive replacement and the same problem after the replacement drive is unstable few days relocated sector count starts to  rise ,last my 1tb Samsung drive its 3 months as a data backup drive with no problem but again i cloned my windows partition there hoping the problem will be solved but after exactly  5 days of usage drive starting to have lockups windows freeze for few seconds and  hdtune showing pending sectors count
    i really dont understand why every disk that i connect to system becomes unstable 

  • Multiple problems with P35 Neo Combo-F based system

    Friend of mine, after returning from a trip, complained that he couldn't power up his computer. After analysis it was found that his (no-name) PSU was dead. Unfortunately replacing the PSU was not end to the problems. Here are the configuration details:
    Mobo: MSI P35 Neo Combo-F v1.0 with v1.7 BIOS
    CPU: Intel Celeron 420
    RAM: single Transcend JM800QLJ-1G 1GB DDR2-800 module
    Video Card: Gigabyte nVidia GV-NX84G256H
    HDD: 1xMaxtor STM3250310AS DiamondMax 21 SATA
    OS: Microsoft Windows XP SP3
    PSU: LC-Power LC7380 PowerSilent Taurus 380W (3,3V: 20A, 5V: 20A, 12V1: 14A, 12V2: 8A)
    Other: Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-212D SATA
    Problem(s) description:
    When powering up, system turns on for a second or two, then like it powers down for roughly the same time, and then turns itself on again and then boots. Not sure if this is double/fake boot "feature", but for single system power up I don't like having HDD powered up twice. This happens for every power up. BIOS has been upgraded to latest 1.7 using MSI Windows utility, after update system has been turned off, power cord removed, BIOS jumper set to clear for couple of minutes, then returned to normal position, returned power, started up the system, loaded optimized defaults, in power management setup's wake up event setup I have disabled "resume by pci device" and "resume by pci-e device" options which were only by default enabled "resume by ..." items.
    System is very unresponsive, even after clean install with only motherboard drivers installed (Intel INF). I've checked with Sysinternals Process Explorer, Deferred Procedure Calls process is occupying most (50% - 70%) of the CPU, making "System" (and not "System Idle Process") occupying CPU 100%. I've checked with Spybot 1.6.2 and with Kaspersky AV 2010, there is no malware on the system. Odd thing is that while I'm running latest Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool "System" process falls down to 3% of CPU load and system becomes responsive more than ever.
    When restarting system, after clean install and before installing any drivers, system would freeze at "Windows is shutting down" screen. Once I install Intel inf motherboard drivers, since then system kind of restarts, screen goes black, but it doesn't boot up again - I have to do a hardware reset.
    When shutting down the system, similarly to restart scenario, system kind of shuts down, I can hear HDD is stopped, but system power LED remains on, and both CPU and PSU fans remain on.
    Not sure if it is related but I'll mention it anyway, even though I can browse internet and download files with no problem, Windows update and Kaspersky Antivirus 2010 updates barely move from 0% after hours and hours of running (Kaspersky never moves off of the 0%, while Windows Update takes ages to get additional percent of a single ~900KB update)
    I've tried replacing that single Transcend memory stick with single Kingston KVR800D2N5/2G DDR2 stick, and replacing graphics card with MSI's R4350-D512H, but in vain. I've also tried putting in 2 Kingston DDR2 sticks, but then system wouldn't boot at all. I've also tried replacing PSU with LC-Power's LC-6550 V2.0 (+3,3V: 30A, +5V: 28A, +12V1: 14A, +12V1: 14A) but it didn't solve anything.
    I'm running out of options, any advice would be welcome.

    Your HDD is going to be just fine.  Todays hard drives are usually built to be able to take 50'000 power-on-Cycles.  If you turn on your system once a day, it will take about 68.5 years until you reach that number with that double-boot behaviour.  When you power on your system 8 times a day, you will still have to do that for about 8.5 years (each day) until you reach 50'000.  That means if your hard drives breaks within the next 5 years (warranty period), it is highly unlikely that this has anything to do with the double-boot behaviour.

    This is another indication that your problems is Windows related.  There is something wrong with your OS installation.  You are talking about a clean OS Installation with no drivers but AV Software and Anti-Spyware stuff installed.  This does not sound very healthy.
    My suggestion would be to clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU, load "Optimized Defaults" in BIOS after that, repartition and format your hard drive from Windows Setup and reinstall Windows XP SP3.  When you done, start with installing the latest Intel Chipset drivers (nothing else before that) and then restart your system right after the installation is done.  Then install all the other drivers step by step and see if that changes anything.

    I've just put together my new computer and everything is plugged in right, even the graphic card does start. But I get no signal on the screen and I used the graphic card on my old computer so it should work. Help please

    I don't like the 17a ratings for your split rail. I believe a GTX needs nearly 33A and, yes, at max 408/12 is 34a(which is a tad fishy IMHO), but yours is split rail.
    I know that the ratings are showing the powersupply to be a split rail.  But according to a review on the Jonnyguru website; it looks like both rails are pulling from the same spot on the PCB.  Below is part of the review that talks about this.

       I plugged in the 8-pin EPS12V connector and proceeded to put a 30A load on it.  The PSU did not shut off, which confirmed that my visual observation that all of the +12V leads were in fact coming from the same source on the PCB.  The Antec EarthWatts does NOT have multiple +12V rails.  It only has one +12V rail with no limiters on any of the connectors.
    So even though it is showing that it is a split rail with 17A on each 12V rail; it looks like it might not actually be a split rail PSU.

  • P35 Neo Combo + Q8300 "SLGUR"

    Hi,
    I tried to install a Q8300 on my P35 NEO Combo.
    I got unlimited reboots, until i re-inserted my old E6320.
    Now I checked the CPU-Nr, it is "SLGUR" not "SLB5W" as stated in the CPU list.
    Is there a change this combination will work or do I have to get another CPU?

    Did all that, same result as before: System starts but shuts down after ~2mins. I realized that there is no possibility in the bios to change the CPU or RAM voltage, all set to auto and greyed out. Might this be a possibility? Otherwise I´m thinking about either sending the cpu back and going for a larger modell or changing the Motherboard...

  • [SOLVED] P35 Neo - Slow boot

    Hi,
    On a P35 Neo, the computer takes a lot of time to boot (around 2mn to see the windows logo indicating that the OS is starting). When the windows logo appears, the start up times is normal.
    It seems that it takes times to check devices then it's ok
    I've checked my devices (hdd, mermory ..) no problems detected. May be a bios config.
    Any help is welcome

    2 minutes is a lot of time for window to appear??
    are memories in slot1 and slot3 ??
    what is your bios latest or the first bios.
    if memories in slot1&3 then go into bios then default setting click on it then click yes then save and exit then test.
    if prob still persist then as wonka has suggested strip to bear, test,  then add one hardware then test start time..and so on,  from this you should be able to identify the hardware which is causing it.
    if prob persist your last option is flashing bios safely

  • P35 Neo Combo crash problem

    Hi all,
    Recently my computer has started to crash with a BSOD (Stop 0x00000124), it happens almost every day but I haven't been able to reproduce the crash, it seems to occur completely randomly. It even crashed when I was away for a day and didn't use the computer - I left it running to see if the crash would happen without me running any programs.
    System:
    Mainboard: MSI P35 Neo Combo, Bios version 1.7
    CPU: Intel Core2 E6750
    Memory: 2x2GB DDR2 800MHz
    3 hard drives
    Graphics: Radeon 4850
    Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Pro
    I am running Windows 7 Ultimate trial (64 bit), however the same crash happened under Vista Home Premium (64bit) so everything including the error code seems to point to a hardware error.
    - disk checks return no errors
    - memtest86 returns no errors
    Not sure what to try, googling the problem leads me to believe the problem is with the mainboard. I'd like to know if there's something I could try before replacing the board. I have never overclocked anything on this system, mainboard and CPU are about three years old, memory about two, graphics card a year, hard disks 0-3 years. Before this problem happened everything was stable.
    Some more info I can think of below. Any ideas/suggestions/assistance welcomed. Thank you!

    What I have now is 2x1GB and 2x2GB PC6400, all are A-Data. There was a crash with one of the 2GB sticks, trying the other now.
    I might get DDR3 as replacement, as I'll be buying a new system towards the end of the year - my current board supports DDR3 as well and then I could use the memory in the new system. Or I'll just run with 3GB and no dual channel for the time being (the board has 2xDDR2 and 2xDDR3 slots, so can't use more than two sticks).
    It's just odd that memory checks don't report any errors, and the system only crashes every 24 hours or so.

  • NO POST-P35 Neo Combo-F

    Good morning all,
    I just purchased a P35 Neo Combo-F along with new RAM and MSI NX8500-TD512EH video card.  Assmebled everything and no posting at all, no beeps or video.  The fan on the power supply will sometimes stop for a few seconds but then will start again and stay on.  I then went and got a 600 watt power supply but the same thing happens, stops for a few seconds and starts again and stays on.
    This is all that is connected in the case:
    - P35 Neo Combo-F
    - Pentium D 940
    - OCZ fan
    - CORSAIR XMS2 2GB
    - Video card - MSI NX8500-TD512EH
    Any ideas?   I've cleared the BIOS and taken out the battery, removed board from case and tried that.  Any help or directions would be greatly appreciated!

    Test your board outside your case on a non-conducting surface in barebone configuration (CPU, video card, one stick of RAM in Slot1, power connectors).  Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU.  See if that changes anything.

    If the specs shown on that site are accurate, the amperag limit is only 24A/12V (288W).  That rating is very low for a 600W-PSU, which doen't turn your unit into a convincing device. If you can, try a better PSU.

  • P35 Neo does not boot

    Hi,
    I have just bought a P35 neo F and a Code 2 Duo E6550 processor.
    When I switch the power on, the cpu fan starts and stop and then start again which looks OK for this motherboard - My problem is that the system does not boot after this - I have tried different combinations (with or without memory, with or without hard drive, with or without graphic card, I have tried 2 different graphic cards, 2 different power supply... no result - Could someone help me ?

    I just finished building this rig, and had exactly the same "no boot" issue using Ballistix RAM. The board powered up, then it did the auto shutdown thing which is normal, and then it started up for real, the diagnostic LEDs on the mobo light up, the CPU fan spins, I get a single beep but then just a blank screen, no POST screen, can't enter the BIOS
    I tried a minimal build outside the case using just the graphics card, monitor, keyboard, and a single stick of Ballistix RAM in four different slots, re-setting the CMOS at each attempt, But still no POST
    I was advised the Ballistix may be the problem as they're rated at 2.2v and the MSI board sets 1.8v until you change the voltages in BIOS, so I ordered 2 sticks Kingston Value RAM  667MHz rated at 1.8v, Inserted a single stick then powered up, but still no POST, Inserted the second stick and the board fired up!  I needed both sticks inserted to boot,  glad I ordered 2 sticks of Kingston instead of one, I'm keeping them as a backup if the Ballistix fail. Inserted the Ballistix and they're running fine @ 1160 MHz  CAS 5: 5: 5: 15: 2T  2.3v
