P35 Plat, Q6600 B3, Stock HSF and temp problem

So I noticed today that my stock temp runs about 50, 49, 47, 47 at idle.  I was running Prime95 and after only about 30 seconds the temps were 71, 70, 67, 67.  !!!!!  I have a P180 case with 4 120mm fans running at med speed.  Also, I used Antec's Silver Thermal compound.
I thought with a stock cooler these chips would run about 60c under load.  Is it likely I have a bad CPU?

@stromm:
I just remembered that someone posted a screenshout of his Q6600/B3 core temperatures under full load on the German MSI Forum a little while ago.  He was using stock cooling as well.  Maybe this is a way to get a comparison.
Here is the thread:  http://www.msi-forum.de/thread.php?threadid=32892&threadview=1&hilight=&hilightuser=0#post267732
Here is the screenshot:
He said the screenhot was taken with 4 instances of some distributed computing client (TSC?) running in the backround, one on each core.  He also mentioned that  when he runs an Everest Stability Test his core temps climb up to about 75 to 77°C.  As I said before, the shutdown temperature (TJunction) is about 15°C higher than on a Core 2 Duo (+17.6%) and I am sure you have to apply the same percentage to the core temperatures as well. It is often said, when E6x00 core temps are discussed, that everything under 60°C is an optimal and safe value.  For a Q6600 this margin has to be raised to around 70°C at least, because it is a Quad-Core that will in any case run a little hotter than a C2D. This said, I don't entirely agree with what qyx said in the previous post. (no offense, of course)
In any case, I believe it is a good idea to consider a better cooling solution and maybe exchange the stock cooler with a better and more efficient device.  However, I don't think your temperatures are that abnormal.

  • MSI P35 Plat / q6600 G0 overclocking attempt

Hello - this is my first time OC'ing in at least 5 years, and need some advice.
I guess manufacturers don't just let you change a multiplier anymore?? or is that an MSI thing?

    4g Hynix 800
    Silverstone 750 PSU
    Duorb CPU cooler
    case with 6 120ms w/straight through
I downloaded Everest system monitor and ran their queen CPU test as a benchmark fist, and noticed that at idle all of the core temps were at about 28C. I restarted and went into the bios. I turned on the option that enabled DOT for CPU and PCI (don't know if I should have,) and moved the FSB to 333. I restarted the system and went into the bios again to check for sure that the bios processor speed was 3.0 with a 9X, which it was.
I cam into windows, and the core temps according to Everest were still the same. I then went into Prime95 and chose the SmallFFT option on 4 threads. Almost immediatly the 4th thread failed with this message:
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
The third followed suit very soon after. In the mean time, Everest showed the core temps getting up as high as 48-50. Within a minute of the second thread failure, I got a blue screen of death, and the computer restarted - to which I promptly loaded the optimized defaults back.
So my question is, was this because I'm not going to be able to reach 3.0 speed? Did I do something incorrectly? Does this indicate that the voltage needs to be raised? if so by how much? Are those temperatures bad? If someone could give me some advice I'd greatly appreciate it.
btw, I tried running 3 different software CPU clock changers, all returning errors about not being able to load drivers. I'm on vista enterprise 64, and ran the "fix" to turn off mandatory driver signature, but still had this problem.

Disable EIST in Cell Menu and you should be able to do so.

Disable DOT if you are manually overclocking your system.  DOT stands for "Dynamic Overclocking Technology".  It is an overclocking on demand feature that will automatically raise clock speeds and voltage values.  Automatic overclocking and manually overclocking exclude each other.
Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU and load "Optimized Defaults" in BIOS after that.
Keep DOT and Spread Spectrum disabled in Cell Menu at all times when you are overclocking your system. Keep the voltage values on AUTO for now and see how far you can get by just raising FSB Clock Speed (step by step).  Pay attention to memory frequency when you raise FSB Clock Speed.  Memory Frequency depends on FSB Clock speed and will increase with it.  You have to adjust FSB/Memory Ratio in BIOS in relation to the FSB Clock range you use to keep memory frequency within specification (DDR2-800).

  • MSI NX7600GT-T2D256EZ speed and temp problems?

Hi, I'd like to buy a MSI NX7600GT-T2D256EZ but after reading this comparison in Madshrimps i'm confused:
    http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&number=12&artpage=1958&articID=460
At the time of this comparison, there was a problem with speed and temperature as you can read in the article. I'd like to know if this problem has been already solved, because i didn't found any new info following this article.
Could someone help me? I really like this card since there is no fan, but wouldn't like to find problems.
    Thanks a lot.

Well the Link works but the described issue would only happen if gpu is overheating (as Aaron said). This is automatic core slow down and happens with any GeForce FX/6/7/8 vga when reaching the critical temp. Of course a passive cooled vga reaches higher temps than a vga of the same kind with active cooling. So good airflow inside the case is crucial to keep the temps down. With just an ordinary airflow (two casefans) the 7600GT-EZ never reaches critical temp.
The article you linked to also describes that the NX7600GT-T2D256EZ wrongly reports too high temps. This issue is unknown, I build a system with this vga sometime ago and it never reported wrong temps.

  • What programs would be best to run to test the flickering and temp problem?

My new i7 has not shown any effects yet, but then, I have not put it through any stress tests. I do not want to particularly download too much new stuff. I am trying to work with the new mac as it comes from the factory for about 1 or 2 weeks before I start downloading or transferring files and data.
Are there any programs that are factory installed already, that I can use to really test the iMac both from the standpoint of flickering and temperature?
    Thanks

    Herschel Hochman wrote:
How can I stress the new machine to see if it will initiate flickering at the same time checking the temperature characteristics?
I had loaded and running about 25 programs, many of which were doing graphics or video. Certainly this was not a controlled and precise benchmark; I just wanted to make it as busy as I could for a while. No problem detected under the maximum I could manually stress the machine. Certainly things got hot and the fans were running faster but nothing serious.
Just monitor the temperature with iStat as the programs are running and run Activity Monitor to watch the workload/memory use. After that test, I was impressed with the ability of this thing to multi-task and the HDD / CPU / GPU / screen were flawless.

  • LSI 320-2e (Perc 4e/DC) on a P35 Plat

Ive got a new P35 Plat (came with 1.1) thats been flashed up to 1.6
Board works great with a Q6600/2gb and a 8800GT.  The moment you put a Perc 4e/DC (LSI 320-2e) into the PCI-E x4 slot (auto, 2x or x4 config), the machine just does to reboot/power off and never finds a suitable stable configuration.
Has anyone ever got one of these cards to work in any motherboard?
If MSI wants one to play with, PM me an address and I'll send you it.

  • Can I hit FSB250 with stock HSF?

    Hi there,
Let me to the point: can I hit FSB 250 (so my CPU will be @ 3.5Ghz) with only using stock HSF?
not worry about my RAM, as it can run @ 250 (1:1) or @ 200 (5:4). so my question is the temp limitation of my CPU.
my room is about 23-24 Celcius and I have good case airflow.
    Thanx.
note: I know that 3.5Ghz is not that important for me, but 3.5Ghz?? Who don't want it? but limited by budget, I won't buy additional HSF right now.

    Ok, I have tried...
And it's sad to you, nate: I can stably & easily reach 3.5Ghz (FSB 250) without any voltage crank nor extra cooling.
But, yes, it's seems the temp is too high, about 58/59 C while playing Call Of Duty a while. Some (in this forum) told that his 2.8 o/c 3.5 with stock HSF will be at 65 C @ load. So I think mine is the same.
So, right now, I'll order Polo 735, as it's cheap and have good reviews (however, many reviews use AMD not Intel).
And there's something I dont understand: my board doesn't allow CL other than 2, so I cant 1:1, but it's ok, as 5:4 give good result too (but can't enable PAT... poor).

  • P35 Plat PCIe x16 1.1 or 1.0a?

I am looking to update my graphics card but I can't seem to get a solid answer on this. Is the MSI P35 Plat. x16 slot a 1.0a or 1.1? I have read other p35 boards are 1.1, as well people stating that this board is 1.1 and 1.0a on other forums. Has anyone here had any experience or know the true answer?
P.S. I looking in the range of the 5770/5750
    Thanks in advance,

Dont want to hijack this thread but its very related, Ive got a p35 plat has to be one of the best boards been running great OC and has been for 2.5 years, unfortunatly my 8800gtx gave up so i thought I would get the new ati card and chuck it in, I got the 5870. issue is that if i cold boot it wont post I have to clear the cmos and then it will boot.
once running tho this beast is pumping out the fps in the latest games at max settings but its so much trouble to turn it off. from what ive been reading is that there an incompatibility on allot of motherboards running pcie 1.0a with the new cards 2.1 even tho they are ment to work together.
can anyone tell me if any of the bios revisions for this board would likely fix this? or is there any chance of msi to fix this?
from what ive been reading couple of manufacturers have fixed it for their older boards allot are arnt doing anything if the board is no longer supported,  not sure about the p35 being pretty old now im sure im just out of luck.

  • EIST Problem P35 Neo Q6600

    Hi all.
I have overclocked my Q6600 (G0) to 3.28GHz (411 FSB x8 Multiplier) on MSI P35 Neo (BIOS v1.10/1.A). Problem is that if I enable EIST in BIOS and set the CPU multiplier at 8x the multiplier will not remain at 8x when booting. It will try to boot with 9x and as a result will hang/freeze the computer during boot. Only way to stop it from going higher than 8x is to disable EIST. I would have kept EIST disabled if MSI motherboards didn't have problem of feeding a lot more vcore when CPU is idle. CPU VID is 1.28v and in BIOS I have set it at 1.33. At idle it hovers around 1.35v +/- 0.01 and under load it drops to 1.31 +/- 0.01. At 3.33GHz (370 FSB x9 Multiplier) EIST works as intended but I have to set RAM at 740MHz (at next mem divider it goes to 888MHz unstable).
    My computer specs are:
    CPU: Intel C2Q Q6600 G0
    MB: MSI P35-Neo
    RAM: Corsair XMS 2 3GB DDR2 800MHz (2GB+1GB)
    PSU: Corsair HX620
    VGA: HIS Radeon HD4870 1GB
    HDD: Seagate 500GB SATAII ST3500418AS
    And other normal stuff.
Does some one know of a method to enable EIST successfully at 8x multiplier or some BIOS for MSI P35 Neo that fixes this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards

I am guessing you have your Q6600 at 400x9?
    No, I have an E6600.

    Your signature says EIST enabled...
Yes, but what does that have to do with your system running @x8?  If I wanted to make my system operate at a lower multiplier, I would have to disable EIST as well.

The idea that the voltage has to stay put at the same level when the system is IDLE and under full load is somewhat of a misconception.  Voltage Droops are not necessarely caused by poor power regulation but have to do (at least in the first degree) with the Intel Processor Power Delivery Design
    Guidelines and Specifications.
    Please have a look here:

Load line droop (or Vdroop) is an inherent part of any Intel power delivery design. A current proportional to the average current of all active channels flows through load line regulation resistor RFB. The resulting voltage drop across RFB is proportional to the output current, effectively creating an output voltage droop with a steady-state value. Equation 2 dictates the value for RFB that should be choosen to satisfy the Intel VRD specification (the source of RLL) based on a) the number of power delivery phases (N) and b) the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the inductor used, effectively known as DCR.

I only want to enable EIST so that CPU vcore voltage doesn't go higher than 1.33v
What happens if you adjust the voltage downward somewhat?  Is the 1.33V setting really the lowest possible setting for your current clock speed?

    hi friend,
Why don't you try using a TIMER. Try using this code
Timer timer = new Timer((TIMER), new ActionListener()
         public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae)

    timer.setInitialDelay(TIMER);

IMG->MM->Purchase Order->Setup stock transport order->Define shipping data for plants.
In this step when you define plant as customer, the same plant as customer needs to be maintaind for both STO and Inter company and there is only one entry of sales area possible for this single plant. So, how can the task be achieved.
I want that STO should be carried out by sales area lets say X/Y/Z
Inter company should go through A/B/C.

Hi, experts, I get a problem about sales order stock stock transfer and batch determination. The following is the current situation of my system:
In OMCG I assigned search procedure ME0001 to both 311 and 311 E and ticked check batch. After that, I found  that if iI need to tranfer unrestricted-use material from storage location 1000 to 2000 with movement type 311, I just need to input * at the field batch, then the system will display all of the available batches. But for the transferring of sales order stock with movement type 311 E, after I input * at the batch field, no batch is displayed and there is also no message from the system.
Can anybody help me? Is there anything else I need to do? Thanks very much.

I think my question is not clear, actually I tried 562 E , 411 E and 413 already. all the transaction looking for the sales order but unfortunatly the sales order is deleted  from SAP.
