P35 Platinum CPU Fan on/off Option in bios?

hey all,,,
is there a way of turning off the monitoring of the cpu fan in a similar way to the NB or chiset fans so they dont report to windows... i have watercoolin and cant stand the bleepin i keep gettin dual core centre coz my cpu fan speed is at 0rpm.... if not then is there another app i can use to monitor temps that i can cinfigure to ignore the cpu fan on?
thanks

Nu773r, can you list your full system spec and any overclocking settings you have, and also the watercooling components you have installed?
water cooling may not be the best cooling option for today's motherboard, as there are other components on the board that run as hot as the CPU and not being cooled well.

  • MS 6390 CPU fan turns off while loading windows

    Hi,
I just bought a MS 6390 mobo and plugged in my AMD 1700 XP into it. Machine boots fine and allows me to mess around with the BIOS without problem. However, when I let Windows 2000 load my CPU fan switches off!
The CPU immediatly begins to overheat and I have to pull the plug.
Anybody knows what could be wrong?
    Regards,
    Asif

Too late! I already changed it
    Got a KT4AV instead
Apparantly a lot of MS 6390 boards of this type have been returned because of the same issue (CPU fan problems). The guys at the tech department did have a BIOS update (God knows from where they got that... i couldnt find it). Anyway, I raised a bit of a shing ding and got the mobo changed for a KT4AV (small difference in cost).
Fredrik, I know about the S bracketless 6 ch sound thing, but as far as I can recall the manual on the 6390 didnt give any clue as to how to do it. I have to do the same thing with the KT4AV, but at least the manual is more detailed in explaining that.
Anyway, I am running fine now
Oh I had a bit of chat with a techie at the place...and he strongly recommended the KT4 boards (AV and Ultra)...apparantly those get returned a lot less than others...I hope its true.

  • MSI P35 Platinum - No fans so no additional Cooling Needed?

    Hello,
With the idea of supporting a quiet but powerful system, I had intended to buy the MSI 875X Platinum, but I just saw the new passively cooled MSI P35 Platinum.    Can I really get by using the MSI P35 Platinum with no fans or additional cooling, running:
    -Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe Processor 2.4GHz, 1066FSB
    -4GB Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 DDR2-800
-MSI GeForce 8600 GTS NX8600GTS-T2D256EZ-HD Video Card
-Zalman ZM600-HP HeatPipe Cooled 600w PSU
I won't be overclocking; I'd just like an updated, quiet system with power to spare; will be used for photoshop.
    Any other comments?  Thx.

Good suggestion; I was unaware of the SilenX Fans, but I reviewed and get the idea--they are excellent for low noise applications, and this is exactly what I want!   Thx.
    Scott
For those who don't know the Antec P180/P182 has the PSU in a separate chamber at the bottom of the case so it can chuck the cpu's heat straight out of two 120mm fans in top and rear.   There is also a 3rd 120mm fan in lower chamber blowing onto the PSU.   All three Antec fans are fitted with HI-Med-Low switches.  I find Low to be good.
120mm fans push a decent amount of air on low RPM and are much quieter than 90mm.
There is room to fit two more of your own fans on the Upper HD cage.   One to draw air in from the front of the case and one that blows straight on the graphics card.  If you use both at once it creates a wind tunnel but means you cannot use it for hard drives.  Although you could just fit the front fan and have it blow across your HD.   I have my disks in the lower chamber to keep their heat away from the motherboard, and have done the wind tunnel option.
If I could change one thing I would have bought slower RPM  or adjustable extra fans because they are louder than the built in Antec fans.
    Hope this makes sense lol.
To be honest, you don't really need the extra fans if silence is more important, but my room is very warm and I plan to overclock.

  • P35 Platinum - CPU Cooler of Choice for a Quiet Solution

Hello Everyone...I'm going to put together a build with a P35 Platinum mobo. Would others care to offer what CPU Coolers they are using that are quiet? I want to go with a 100+mm fan solution, but I'd like to hear from others here with any good or bad luck with a larger cooler on this board.
    Thanks!

Thanks for responses, very helpful.  I have a slight worry about the board having enough room for a larger cooler and wondered if anyone here had some experience with size limitations. If  a Scythe Ninja would fit, then probably anything would fit.
Sorry to spawn another thread off this topic, but my other concern was the reports of the heatsink being used on the P35 for the south bridge sitting up a bit high and preventing video cards (i.e. 8800 GTS/GTX) from seating properly. I did see a post in here some place referring to that, and the poster stated the heatsink was not preventing the card from seating in the socket far enough to prevent connectivity. But that was the only reference I found in this forum.  Does anyone have anything new to say in this regard as well?  What cards are people using with this board would be helpful. I am a huge MSI fan so don't sling anything at me, but I find it disappointing that this issue occurred and even a review on the P35 with an MSI graphics cards was used to demonstrate this flaw (http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/462). So I suspect that some video cards may be fine based on their design and I would like to know which if possible.
Thanks for your support and continued spending!

    Hi,
I had everything running on windows 7 fine until 2 days ago.  I installed Live Update from MSI website.  I was about to install driver updates for my motherboard, but the bios update went instead.  my pc tried to restart after the bios update installed, but it failed.  would not post and would only see black screen.
then i removed one of my memory sticks.  it would post, but then windows would not start up.  it would get stuck at windows loading screen.  i tried to reformat with my windows cd.  but during install it would blue screen of death me.  i tried multiple times and it would always blue screen of death with different errors.  the last one i remember was a message saying i should off turn shadowing and caching.
this all started happening after i attempted bios update via Live Update.

Where exactly are you trying to find this option in the bios? As Richard said make sure you enabled manual for CPU and Ram settings.
I know where I am looking.
User Config Mode --> [Manual] but there is only "Bottom of 32-bit" , "Read Preamble value" and " Async Latency value".

Please tell us exactly(!) what you changed in Cell Menu (core speed, HT, mem clock and so on), report your CPU model and stepping.
Did you clear cmos after(!) flashing 3.A mod?
After flash I remove my power cable for 1-2 mşnutes than press reset button. During post screen I enter bios to load failsafe defaults. After those steps I try to find what is good/bad with that bios.
Feel free to ask anything that can fix this problem.

If you are trying to boot from an IDE DVD drive, I guess you have the same problem as THN and me. I have the same "beeps", even with bios v1.1, 1.6 and 1.8. I was lucky to buy the board with a SATA DVD writer, so I can boot from this now. In the end, I think that the criticized JMicron controller that has my 975x PowerUp is better than this Marvell controller (what makes the matter worst, is that this is the ONLY ide controller on the P35...)

  • Dual CPU fans in IQ816 Question

I have received the fatal error message indicating that my wife's IQ816 CPU fan is dead.
When I opened up the unit I found that one of the 2 CPU fans was indeed not functioning (FYI there are a total of 3 fans in the IQ816s). The fans part number (on the part) is 13G075205000H2 which translates to HP part number 489487-001, and I have ordered a couple of these already.
However, the second CPU fan (located right next to the other one) has part number 13G075205030H2 and I have not been able to find this part number anywhere (it is the same as the first part number with one of the 0s changed to a 3 so it is possible that the same part number may be okay with both, but I have no way of knowing that).
Could someone please let me know what the HP part number is for the 13G075205030H2 as I know this fan will die eventually, and I would like to be prepared with the replacement part in hand.
    Thanks in advance,
    Don McFarland

For those who may read this thread who are not familiar with PC hardware issues, there are some basic parts which can go bad and cause a machine to no longer function. Historically, manufacturers produce these parts so that customers who need them can keep their machine up and running rather than having to buy a new one. These parts include...
    (1) CPU - okay, chances are good that the CPU manufacturer will take care of this being available
    (2) CPU Fan - on newer machines, the BIOS will not allow the machine to boot if a CPU fan is not working - whether or not these are available is largely up to the part that was selected by HP - there is no guaruntee that the part will be available unless HP makes that happen.
    (3) Memory - okay, chances are good that a memory manufacturer will take care of this being available
    (4) Hard Drive - there are plenty of hard drives out there to choose from
Note that of these 4 items, HP is off the hook on 3 of them due to the stock that other vendors maintain, namely the CPU, Memory and Hard drive. The least expensive (by a longshot) critical part is the CPU Fan/heat-sink (production cost is a few dollars).  One has to ask oneself, why HP would not make these parts available, because without them, a $2000+ computer (IQ-816 for example when they first came out) becomes a worthless piece of &^%^.
I am really having a hard time believing this sad state of affairs. For anyone reading this, make note that it does not matter how much you paid for your high end HP computer when it comes time for replacement parts, because HP is not taking the responsibility that they should to look after their customers - it may run for a couple of years or so, but when the trouble hits, you may find yourself in the same situation that I am in (i.e. can't get a part that is necessary for the computer to run).

  • Problem with PM8PM-IL and the CPU fan

Hello everybody i am spanish my apologies for my english xD
I have a motherboard MSI PM8PM-IL (MS-7222), official intel fan with four connectors, the fan support PWM but the motherboard doesnt control the rpm of the fan and I have 3668 rpm 53 °C  (127 °F)
From the manual  "you must use a specially designed fan with speed sensor to take advantage of the CPU fan control."
In the bios i don't see that option "H/W Monitor This entry shows the status of your CPU, fan, warning for overall system status."
    "CPU Smart Fan Temperature"
the manual have photos of this menus but when i enter in the bios i don't see anything of that
    msi.com/product/mb/PM8PM-IL--L.html

You appear to have some Beta test version of the 1.2 BIOS.
Try flashing to the last version 1.3:
    http://eu.msi.com/product/mb/PM8PM-IL--L.html#/?div=BIOS
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
However, its possible that your board simply doesn't support this feature, and the manual is incorrect.

  • K8N Neo4 Setup - Issues Adjusting CPU Fan Speed - Alarm Going Off

    Building this PC for a friend, and I just got it to post.  Everything seems to be running stable, only when I get into the CoreCenter, the CPU Fan alarm is going off and the speed is flashing red.  It is currently running at about 820 RPM, but the CPU temp is sitting at 37'C and the sys temp is 32'C.  Is this too hot, is the fan speed way too low, I'm somewhat new to this.  I set it to Cool'n'Quiet and it still does it, I disable Cool'n'Quiet and try to increase CPU fan speed manually, and it won't increase.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.  The rig is setup as follows;
    MSI K8N Neo4
    AMD 64 3000+
    Kingston 512MB DDR400
    80GB Seagate ATA
    nVidia GeForce 6600GT 128MB
    Antec NeoPower 480W

You can adjust the alarm level by clicking the little red arrow(Hardware monitor option) on the right side of Core Center, move the slider for CPU Fan Speed Alarm to the left(set it to 500-600rpm), and click OK.
Now you shouldn't get alarms any more.
The fan speed and temperatures you report are very similar to what I see on my system at idle. The fan shold begin to run faster if the system is under load for some time.

  • MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum Smart CPU Fan reports 0 rpm ?

    Hi
I have a MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum (MS-7125) motherboard with an Athlon 64 3700+ CPU and an Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64 HSF.
In the BIOS setup, in the 'Monitor H/W' area you can set something called the 'Smart CPU Fan Target'.
o  If I set this to disabled, it reports a fan speed of about 2,280 rpm.
o  If I set it to 40°C, it reports a fan speed of 0 rpm !  (the fan is turning)
The MSI Core Center utility and Everest Ultimate also both report the fan speed as 0 rpm.
I assume that if I disable Smart CPU Fan, the fan always rotates at max. rpm; if I set it to 40°C, the fan runs at a slow speed until the temperature exceeds 40°C, at which point it speeds up (likewise if I set it to 50°C or 60°C).  However, the fan IS turning.
Can anyone explain this ?  I would like the reassurance of having the CPU HSF speed reported.
Incidentally , the PSU is an Akasa AK-P460FG
       (3.3v = 30A, +5v = 30A, +12v1 = 14A, +12v2 = 15A)

Very old post yes but I feel the need to reply anyway because I have the same problem myself.
Very strange and would be nice to hear if any more of ya guys out there can see the same.

  • CPU fan speed too slow Core 2 Duo on 975x platinum

This is my first attempt at building a computer and things went good except for the CPU fan.  The CPU, according to BIOS, seems too hot, idling at around 38 to 40c and loaded at around 45+ but I haven't used it hard yet.  The fan speed when controlled by the mobo is only about 800 to 900 rpm when idling.  I turned off the mobo control and the fan went to 1700.  Surely this thing can turn faster than that, is there something I'm missing here.  I really don't want to buy a different fan if this one will work.  Noise is not a problem for me I just don't want to run the CPU that hot.  Help!
    Thanks,
    Jason

Intel Core2Duo is using Thermal Throttling Technology,or in this case TM2 (Thermal Monitor 2) . This is the main part of Intel SpeedStep Technology. It can decrease the multiplier on a CPU and decrease the CPU voltage (vcore), thus lowering temps but reducing the clock speed of the CPU. This is only activated when a small amount of processing power of the CPU is actually required. Here you are some temperature specs for Core2Duo
    Thermal specification:61.4°C
    Thermal Design Power:65W
The thermal specification shown is the maximum case temperature at the maximum Thermal Design Power (TDP) value for the processor. So, you have a normal temperatures for the processor, and you'll have to get used to that low noise

  • P35 - CPU fan reset when resumed from sleep

    Hi,
I just got S3 sleep to work where it turns off all fans. The problem is that when it resumes from sleep, the CPU fan spins a lot faster than from boot. I've set it to run at 12,5 % as long as temps are under 65c. I'm guessing it runs at about 50 % when resuming from sleep. It does this until I restart the computer.
    Tips?
/Edit; Just checked with SpeedFan, CPU fan normally runs at 1100 RPM, but after resume it runs at 1800 RPM. Any utility I can use that resets this to 1100 after resume?

I ended up disabling fan control in BIOS, so that SpeedFan would work in OS. This means that CPU fan runs at 100 % until OS and SpeedFan har loaded up. Tips to fix this through BIOS or whatever are welcome.

  • P35 Platinum Fan control

how to control the speed of the sys fans? with Dual Core Center it is impossible, how to make?

    What?.....this is just mindblowingly annoying.
All boards I have owned for the last 8 years have been able to control fan speeds. I didn't even consider the possibility that that this essential feature could be lacking when I bought the P35 Platinum
I was going to recommend this board to a friend, but without software fan control the board is almost useless in my opinion.
Please never make a board in this way again...ever.

  • CPU Fan Speed always LOW? -- K8N NEO4 Platinum SLI

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. My CPU fan speed is consistently around 850 RPM, both at idle and under full load. This is shown in the BIOS, with Corecenter, Everest, and Speedfan. I have Cool n Quiet disabled in the BIOS, CPU Fan Target in BIOS set to 40 deg (have had it at 60 as well), and Windows Power Scheme set to Minimal Power Management. I've even tried enabling Cool n Quiet to see if it actually did anything...but fan speed is still the same.
It seems everyone else has CPU fan speeds in the thousands rpms. Mine never changes, is always around 850.
My CPU temps vary between 37C idle and 48 load when my ambient room temps are around 75 deg.
What's up with my CPU fan?
EDIT: Speedfan doesn't seem to work for adjusting anything. It only shows my CPU (fan2) and NB (fan3) fan speed, but adjusting the percentages has no effect.
