P4 Temp over 140f isn't this too high?

I was checking out the CPU temp with the PC Alert III and got a temp over 140f. The Chassis is 96f without any overclocking. Isnt this too high?

However, I have not had any crashes or any instability caused by these "high" temperatures, so that furthers my theory that the temperature sensor is messed up. I'd like to see it get fixed in a BIOS update, but I doubt MSI would do that, and I also doubt that MSI would ever update the BIOS for the 6398 motherboard ever again. X( (I'd also like to see some memory ratios for this board, but again, I'd bet my life on the fact that MSI will never give us any memory options on an otherwise good board.)
Get an external probe to measure and bear in mind that P4's thermal throttling kicks in @ > 66 (roughly there)

my problem is this my cpu temp is 39c, my system temp is 31c but my motherboard temp is showing 54c isnt that too high? i have 2 fans at the rear of the atx case and 2 at the front so why is my mobo temp so high is it a psu problem i know my video card requirements are 350w but will it cause the mobo temp to be so high? any suggestions would be appreciated. ?(

Take a deep breath. Relax. These temperatures are normal. If you browse through other threads with similar titles you will see the normal ranges and explanations on false NB temp readings.

Here is the last thing I received from MSI tech support. I'll give them this much, they are much more responsive than VIA or AOpen ever were when I first got my flakey MVP3 board...lol. I hope they can figure this problem out!

Temps Way Too High

Please help me! lol
I just built a new PC and the the processor is 3.2Ghz P4.
It has a Zalman 7000Al/Cu cooler and it hitting a much too high temperature!
The case has a front 80mm intake fan (not bringing air into the case as its blocked), a 80mm side fan bringing loadsa air into the case and then 2 x80mm fans extracting at the back. Plus the PSU has a 120mm fan over the CPU.
Now the problem is that at idle the cpu temp is about 45C but in game it rises steeply. When running 3DMark 2003 about half way it hit 65C. That is way too high.
Now the thing is that when I feel the zalman it is hardly even hot. So obviously isnt making good contacts. Am I right. If so how do i fix this.
I Did use artic silver III on the heatsink and a fine amount so that you could just read the writing on the CPU. What else can I do please? Shouldnt the heatsink be at least hot?

Ah, you seem to have the exact problem I only just got over. I just upgraded my P4C 2.8Ghz's cooler from stock to a Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu, and at first, I had temperature hell, getting temperatures like you are, but it seems I had just misapplied the thermal paste. I'm using the included Zalman paste, and from the tests I've seen, AS3 is only just very very slightly better than it, I'm talking maybe half a degree C.
The way I eventually found to apply it which gave the best result was to put the usual slightly smaller than a grain of rice dollop of the paste right in the middle of the processor, then sit the cooler on top of that, and give it a bit of a twist side-to-side so that it mashes out the paste. You can take a look underneath to make sure this has given a good spread, don't worry if it doesn't cover the whole heat spreader, it shouldn't, and in any case the core which you are cooling is only under a tiny part of that huge plate. As long as it's a reasonable size spread, just go from there and install the cooler as normal, and you should find it works fine. While this method of grease application seems to be against most of the guides I've read, it definitely works fine (I'm getting 29C idle, max 45C load, in a case with absolutely horrid ventilation), and is in fact the way Arctic Silver recommend.
So give that a try, it worked for me.
Oh, and on the whole temperature misreporting deal, while I'm pretty sure my CPU is measured fine, is there some kind of issue with the system temp readings? I should check my BIOS version, but I'm just puzzled in that my system temp tends to read about 40C, which is way more than even my CPU.

I give up! I don't understand why verizon contuously makes mistakes on my bill? when I call to discuss the additional charges they agree as to the refund however I NEVER RECEIVE IT> I have been paying over 3000.00 in verizon cell phone bills in the past 14 months when all I have are 2 active cell unlimited share plans for approx. 42.40each and additional 60.00 for the line access charge and 1 home line for 20.a mo ending 7789. NOTHING ELSE the other lines 0109 and 2548 were suspended due a line that verizon told me to buy so i could replace my 8317 cell. my contract was not due for an upgrade and they said it was the cheapest route so that number doest even have a phone attached to th enumber because verizon transferred that phone to 8317 calls so 01096 was to be 0 charge since april 2012 to last month .the 2548 which i disconnefcted last month as well was a internet broadband since 2009 i think and we lost the transmitter so it has never been in much use however verizon also billed it cont. along with 0109 as a phone line which is irrelevant because if you check those 2 lines have never been in use of ANY OUTGOING CALLS OR INCOMMING AT ALL EVER but verizon keeps defaults those 2 accts as active chargeing me the max amt posibble. my bills should only be approx 160 and thats being generous!!! verizon states they will make the perm. changes and the refund will show in my next bill however I am still waiting for my refund and i keep getting the run around!!! PGC has an error--data rate of this file is too high for DVD

Getting one of those seemingly elusive PGC errors, though mine seems to be different from many of the ones listed here. Mine is telling me that the data rate of my file is too high for DVD. Only problem is, the file it's telling me has a datarate that is too high, is a slideshow which Encore has built using imported jpg files. I got the message, tried going into the slideshow and deleting the photo at the particular spot in the timeline where it said it had the problem, now getting the same message again with a different timecode spot in the same slideshow. The pictures are fairly big, but I assumed that Encore would automatically resize them to fit an NTSC DVD timeline. Do I need to open all the pictures in Photoshop and scale them down to 720x480 before I begin with the slideshows?

With those efforts, regarding the RAM, it would *seem* that physical memory was not the problem.
I'd look to how Windows is managing both the RAM addresses and also its Virtual Memory. To the former, I've seen programs/Processes that lock certain memory addresses upon launch (may be in startup), and do not report this to Windows accurately. Along those lines, you might want to use Task Manager to see what Processes are running from startup on your machine. I'll bet that you've got some that are not necessary, even if IT is doing a good job with the system setup. One can use MSCONFIG to do a trial of the system, without some of these.
I also use a little program, EndItAll2 for eliminating all non-necessary programs and Processes, when doing editing. It's freeware, has a tiny footprint and usually does a perfect job of surveying your running programs and Processes, to shut them down. You can also modify its list, incase it wants to shut down something that IS necessary. I always Exit from my AV, spyware, popup-blocker, etc., as these progams will lie to EndItAll2 and say that they ARE necessary, as part of their job. Just close 'em out in the Tasktray, then run EndItAll2. Obviously, you'll need to do this with the approval of IT, but NLE machines need all available resources.
Now, to the Virtual Memory. It is possible that Windows is not doing a good job of managing a dynamic Page File. Usually, it does, but many find there is greater stability with a fixed size at about 1.5 to 2.5x the physical RAM. I use the upper end with great results. A static Page File also makes defragmenting the HDD a bit easier too. I also have my Page File split over two physical HDD's. Some find locating to, say D:\ works best. For whatever reason, my XP-Pro SP3 demanded that I have it on C:\, or split between C:\ and D:\. Same OS on my 3 HDD laptop was cool having it on D:\ only. Go figure.
These are just some thoughts.

PS some IT techs love to add all sorts of monitors to the computers, especially if networkded. These are not usually bad, but are usually out of the mainstream, in that most users will never have most of these. You might want to ask about any monitors. Also, are you the only person with an NLE computer under the IT department? In major business offices, this often happens. Most IT folk do not have much, if any, experience with graphics, or NLE workstations. They spend their days servicing database, word processing and spreadsheet boxes.

What happened to the option to see all your purchased movies alphabetically? I can only see recent purchases and then I have to look by movie type. With over 500 movies purchased this is a huge pain.

Same issue here. Might have to do with size of library. I too have over 300 purchased movies. "ALL PURCHASED" folder disappeared yesterday on all my AppleTV's. My son only has 20+ purchased movies and his still shows "ALL" folder. However, I had him log in under my account and "ALL" folder is missing??? I hope Apple gets this resolved quickly. I too do not want to flip through various Genres looking for movies.

Just bought the iPad and the apple case
first I regret buying the apple case for iPad coz it easily get marks and stains. And I don't like the built. (can I change it?) I think belkin case is better just 10 dollars diff. Is anyone experiencing it too?
Second my iPad screen! It easily gets finger print marks! I don't know if my fingers are dirty but the screen surely loves my finger prints it's all over!! Does anyone experience this too? The prints shows when the screen is turned off and when on a white bright page

The iPad display is oleophobic, it resists oily marks. Just wipe the display across your pants leg and they are easily wiped away.
There are about 20 or more 3rd party cases for the iPad. Everything from simple rayon silk slipcases, to denim or corduroy shoulder bags and backpacks, to wooden picture frame cabinets.

MSI - R6870 - Twin Frozr II - Is this too hot?

I think there is something wrong with this card of mine. I noticed that the idle temps were high. Way too high. I opened the case, latest ati 11.11 drivers, outdoor temperature of 20 degrees C, this card is idling around 62 degrees C. As demonstrated here:
If I force the fan to 80% it will drop down to about 55 degrees.
Is this card faulty? Seems unusually hot for something that's meant to be extra cool.

I use MSI AfterBurner program. You can preset the Fan. I place mine on AUTO , other option is set to 50 percent fan speed which will also keep it within a good Temp. or User Control and Scale your temp settings.
. At 100 percent Load running for 30 minutes to 1 hour have yet seen my HD 6870 Twin Frozr II (OC) version hit 70c. Usually at 60 -65c. But if you ever get near 90c or above ... then problems are arising.
My pc system with the MSI cards don't like the AMD Catalyst Drivers or even those from MSI. I have to play around finding which DRIVER from which Catalyst 10.XX or 11.XX performs the Best.
All I know is that AMD/ATI has left the HD68xx series in the dust as Has Been graphic cards and leave the customer the worries of finding a Driver that works.
I have CrossFire configuration but the DirectX 11 says my cards don't support DirectX 11. Using one of the earlier Drivers, I will be able to use DirectX 11 but then I don't have CrossFire.
So go figure .... 1 Driver will work for one thing but not the other. Beware that some will cause Artifacts or Green Screen or Screen Freezes (Locks Up) or even cause your Computer to Crash (get a error) and Dump.
AMD don't care about supporting the HD 68xx series. Get a chance go with HD6950's or 6970's. I'm tired of the ATI/AMD games. In May 2008 went with ATI HD 3870's and worked well until one fried in December 2010 for unknown reasons.
So I replaced them with HD6870's hoping for great Drivers. So disappointed now that it's been a year. My next PC rig going back to nVidia.!!!! Sure nVidia cards get hotter (power hogs) but they're more reliable and lasted longer than the AMD/ATI cards. No wonder nVidia is #1 --- 99 percent of the time. Well we do need AMD competition to keep nVidia prices down.

MSI 280x max temp is too high

I just got 2 second hand MSI 280x from someone. Quickly ran FurMark on these cards (1 after another, not crossfire) and their temperature both pass 95+ celsius degree at 100% fan speed. Both cards in mint condition, only few dust on the heatsink.
Thinking the heat problem may come from dry thermal compound, I apply some Noctua NT-H1 to one of those cards and its temperature never pass 85 celsius degree. This seems still little too high because this review shows max temp of such card is well under 80C www. tomshardware. com/reviews/radeon-r9-280x-third-party-round-up,3655-4.html
What could go wrong and How I can make these cards cooler?

You can't compare reviews to your real life experience in a working machine instead of an open system used for short benachmark sessions. Temperature results are individual and as said before card now performs well with new paste.

RReset printing system again and the restart in Safe Mode . This will clear some caches,to do this hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup tone until a progress bar appears, after it has fully booted restart normally and add the printer.

When you hooked up to your PC did they attempt to import? Had you imported them previously and not deleted when the import was complete?
If you have to delete them directly on your device, you need to press the select button and just keep selecting until you have all of them selected, then put them in the trash.
You do not need to select one then trash it, then select another then trash it. You can select as many as you like before clicking on the trash icon.

Define "access the cloud". I can access my iCloud.com account on my 5 year old iMac at work running OS X 10.4.11 Tiger. I can download and upload Word documents and Pages documents in the iWorks section of my iCloud.com account.
What do you want to access in "the cloud"?
Snow Leopard would be your next system upgrade and you should be OK with the CS3 applications, and Office 2008. I cannot confirm that the other applications will work.
This is quite old, but take a look or Google the other applications to see if they are compatible with SL.
