Packages: Making a classpath for a program

My laptop's hard drive recently failed so I've had to revert to a desktop with a 1.1 GHz processor. Eclipse (the java program I was using barely run on this machine. I had used Eclipse to manage everything with Java, now it time for me to actually how packages work.
I've read some tutorials about it and figured out how to do basic imports of packages and where to place the files and such, but I don't know how one class in one package gets access to another in a different package. Here is how I have got packages to work so far. I have one class in /dir/. This is the main class with the 'public static void main' method. The name of this class is Test. Test imports a class in /dir/testPackage/ , called Test2 I figured out that you have to put 'package testPackage' at the start of Test2. Now this all works, Test can import and use Test2 with 'import testPackage.Test2'
This all works, but now I want to know how to import classes that are not in the same directory, or classes that are up one directory in a different package. Using my earlier example, lets say the Test class was in the directory /dir/anotherPackage/ how would it import the package in /dir/testPackage/ ? I could not figure this out.
Any help on this subject would be great.

Hi,
don't get me wrong, but knowing about imports and classpaths in standard java applications is something I consider quite basic...
So let me give it a try:
- there is no limitation like "you may only import classes of subpackages"; if you have your classes in a directory called "src", and one class is called foo.ClassA and the other is called bar.ClassB, ClassB may simply import ClassA using the following:
package bar;
import foo.ClassA;
public class ClassB {
   // your code...
}- a classpath is some different concept: for the above example, the classpath would have to be the "src" directory, nothing of any java-packages that is contained in it! You may have spread your classes in different directories (e.g. c:\src1, c:\src2, ...) and combine all of those to a compound classpath when starting your java application. The classes in your application do not need to know, which class resides in which part of the classpath - they only need the java package names to reference classes!
I hope this was of any help.
Bye.

    I'm paying for the creative cloud package but Can't download any program! Adobe is not recognizing my payment! What can I do? I can't wait anymore! Anyone here have seen it before?

    Hello Sheena, thank you for your reply.
    Actually I have already contacted the support. My case number  is 0215124375.
    I decided to write here at the community because I'm sincerely worry about it, and I would like to know if someone else have already seen it before.
    Adobe is verifying my case, but I'm in need of an urgent response. I don't know if I make another account and another credit card debit, just to have access for the programs, or if I wait working on another old PC computer for 25 trial days. If I make another account I can be charged for 2 payments, That's what I don't want.
    If you have any other case like mine, please let me know,
    SIncerely,

  • Package deployment keeps getting stuck with message 'Waiting for another program'

    Hi, I just started working on SCCM.  We have an Orchestrator runbook which creates a collection and then creates an advertisement for packages and task sequences.  I was able to get a task sequence and a package successfully execute.  When
    creating the advertisement, I set it to RERUN_ALWAYS.  However, the next time I ran our runbook which creates the collection andadvertisement (I manually deleted the previous one), it does create them but the deployment is stuck to In Progres with the
    Description of 'Waiting for another program'.  This just happens for packages before and not for task sequences the other day but now, it's the same issue whether I use a package or a task sequence.

  • Looking for Quadractic programming package

    Anyone know where I could get hold of a java package for quadratic programming?

    Actually this is a line of attack I'm considering on a problem I posed a couple of weeks back, and for which I got no response.
    The project involved is a geographical information system. One of it's functions is to compose composite maps which may have map data superimposed from several sources, and also may have scales, captions, legends etc..
    This composition is specified by an XML file, which works like java.swing.Box in the way it organizes space.
    The specific problem arrises when sizes for the various frames are not explicitly provided. Some frames have minimum feasible dimensions, some have fixed aspect ratios, some are greedy for teritory in one or both dimensions, some aren't improved by being enlarged.
    I've just written code which does this allocation of teritory by linear programming. The trouble is the qualities I'm trying to optimise are still rather vague, and don't want to be linear. For example frames that display actual maps want to be as large as possible and still fit, but if there is more than one of them then they should, by default, be of similar area. If I take linear objecitve functions (e.g. the sum of the two dimensions) then one very large one and one vanishingly small one gives me the same objective score as two of equal size.
    I'm considering modifying the simplex algorithm, having find an optimum vertex, to look for neigbouring verticies with the same score and then average them, in effect if there's an edge, facet, hyperfacet or whatever of the simplex tangental to the objective planes then take the middle of it.
    I'll probably experiment with that today.
    If I can find a quadratic programming package I should be able to experiment without a big investment of time.

  • Looking for a program to assist me in making gift tags and such on my mac book pro

    I am looking for a program to design gift tags and brochures for my business.  I've seen a print shop program by borderbund.  Does anyone have any expereience with this?

    Have you tried a safe start by holding the shift key when you boot? If that works, and it can take a while to complete, see if a regular boot now works. If it does, you need to free up space on your hard drive.
    If a safe boot doesn't work, you need to either boot from an OS X DVD or go into target disk mode to connect via firewire cable to another mac to free up space on your hard drive. You need 5GB min, with 10% to 15%, or more, better, for systems usage.  If you have a backup, move some data files to it, erase them and empty the trash.

    But when i've run the program in NET BEANS IDE 6.9.1, the program is compiled and runned well.

    John Stegeman WROTE: " Any way to avoid what, exactly?"
    I mean that every time we need to insert the cursor into INPUT field using mouse then input the value and press enter.
    But for large input's it becomes tedious to each time place the cursor in Input field.
    SO i meant to avoid this.
    How can i avoid this.
    Also you've mentioned me to run program's out of JDEV, if i do so i will be mising the Beauty and Advanced Capabilities of "ORACLE JDEV 11G".
    So i can't use any other IDE Than JDEV.
    Also can we Modify the way JDEV prompts for input's rather than this INPUT Field i.e by enabling the user input field for every program.
    If there any, please mention.
    Thanks for help in advance :)

  • [Solved] CLASSPATH for javax.swing libraries?

    Hello,
    I wanted to use the swing packages provided by java for developing cross platform GUIs. But, when I tried compiling it, I ended up with the following error:
    HelloWorldSwing.java:1: package javax does not exist
    import javax.swing;
    After searching a bit online, I found out that the CLASSPATH variable needed to be set to use external java libraries. (I installed the jdk and jre packages). I tried setting CLASSPATH to /opt/java/jre/lib in my ~/.bashrc but that didn't help. What should I do to remedy this situation?
    (This is the first time that I am trying to use external libraries like swing on Arch. So I am a Noob at this)
    Thanks for your time!

    No, each package must be imported separately, even if one is "inside" the other.  I wrote a little test program to make sure   Try compiling it with line 4 commented/uncommented.
    package foo;
    import javax.swing.*;
    //import javax.swing.event.*;
    public class Thingy
    public Thingy() {
    JMenu menu = new JMenu("File");
    menu.addMenuListener(new MenuListener() {
    public void menuCanceled(MenuEvent e) {
    System.out.println("canceled");
    public void menuSelected(MenuEvent e) {
    System.out.println("selected");
    public void menuDeselected(MenuEvent e) {

  • Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?  Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).

    Apple is great!
    Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?  Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).
    I compose an iMessage with the destination as my email address and I attach 2 photos I want on my PC.  I send them several times from my iPhone 5C but they never arrive. I look at my ipad later and realize that it's iMessage app is getting ( and swallowing) these emails. I then turn the ipad off.  Still can't get the photos through because iphone is now getting them on it's iMessage.  I turn off the iMessage feature and try to send photos from text msging.  Phone tells me it can't send photos unless iMessage it turned on.  What happened to regular MMS text messaging?  I go and try to send photos as an email attachment and see that there is no option to attach from the stupid email program.  I look up online to learn about the brave new world of apple attachments and send them.
    Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?
    The email program on my iphone is not configured to remove messages from the server.
    If iMessage is turned off I don't have the issue.
    Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).

    Did not work. I've selected iMessage to ON and left it. After a few hours I recieved a message "activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again". This has been going on for the past 3 days.

  • Looking for a program

    Hi guys and gals. Im looking for a program or a way to make a dvd with chapters. I have 2 xvid files that equal 1.4gb's. I'm doing it in toast 8 but it says theres not enough room to do this, and i cant figure out why. Is there another way i can convert it to dvd with chapters. It doesn't matter Manuel or auto chapter input,as long as it has chapters.
    Thanx

    Toast has no problem with room. I use Toast to generate the M2V and AC3 files from all sorts of video clips and routinely make DVD images (not DVD's - image files) that are 30-50 GB e.g. 15-20 hours long. I delete the image after encoding, as I need what winds up in Roxio Converted items.
    However if you are making a physical DVD and you have exceeded the maximum capacity then it won't work - what colour is the indicator around the red burn button? If yellow or red it exceeds the space available.
    Manually set the encoding rate to a lower rate then see if the indicator is green. Default rates are quite high a lot higher than they need to be. You can make a DVD with 2hours and 20 minutes at a 4 mbps encode rate. Which frankly is pretty adequate with source video like WMV, XVid, DivX etc.
    Note the 1.4Gb size of the Xvid originals makes no difference - how much TIME do they equal in total?
    Another method if you are not able to understand the encoding settings - make a DVD image first. Mount that image then make an image again from it - rename the new image, this time Toast will ask - Double layer or single layer? Pick single and it will reencode a new image which you burn later at exactly 4.32GB to fit.
    Note as to chapters just set to every 3, 4,5 minutes etc. and it will do them for you. Note as well each Xvid original will be a title on the DVD so you will have 2 titles and they wil have as many chapters as the setting will allow.
    If you want one long movie from the two, combine them with QT Pro first, save as a self contained MOV file and use that one file.

  • DBMS_SCHEDULER wait for job/program to finish

    Hello All,
    I've run into a little limitation on my understanding of DBMS_SCHEDULER.
    I have an executable script which does a network scan. My goal is to lauch this from an application, and wait (could be 5 minutes or 2 hours) for the scan to finish before I return the results.
    Where I'm a little confused, is the flow of the entire process works when I want to wait for the program to complete:
    1 - Define a program?
    2 - Apply arguments?
    3 - Apply credentials
    4 - Define a chain?
    Literally, I'm not sure how to tackle this task. I simply wish to launch to job and wait for it to finish before I go retreive the file from the server. This is what I have so far, just bits and pieces.
    Mayeb I simply missed somethign in the docs, and I'm overcomplicate things.
    Thanks in advance to the community for you assistance.

  • How to set a classpath for referring classes

    I am using windows vista.....I had assigned classpath for Variable name and given address of class in variable type ..even then compiler does not recognize class path..........

    Thanks but it is not what I am really asking or I may didnt understand..
    The program is working ok through JCreator.. My problem is when I create an Installation file and then run it..
    the program is being created just fine but when it has to load the jdic then it blocks...
    This is something that must be done through variables right?
    If you ever used Install4J there are 2 columns where you declare variables..
    The first column is for Variable name and the second one is Variable Value..
    Sorry for buthering you with all this but this is the first time that I am dealing with jar files!
    Thanks again !
