Page Verification in Oracle 10g XE

Can someone please explain how a user be allowed to view/edit a page based on his user id? I am using Oracle 10g XE.

After installing XE poke a little in the file system directory where you installed.
In the bin directory youll find the sqlplus executable. In the network/admin directory youll find the tnsnames file with a service name by the name of XE configured.
So, as long as you hit that tnsnames file and connect with an unlocked user you should be OK.
sqlplus user/pass@XE
Potential problem you have some previous Oracle Client installation and you hit the tnsnames file from there you could add the XE configuration there too. Or use environment variables to switch over to the XE installation.
Try a tnsping XE and see what is says.

i am trying to open database home page option of oracle 10g software, but could not do it.
i have started the services ORACLEXETNS listener,oracle service XE, and could not see the database home page.
i am new to oracle 10g,
i am getting the error 'page cannot be displayed' .
could some one help me regarding this.

Are you taking about enterprise manager .Type a correct address in address bar to run web base enterprise manager.you can check whether enterprise manager is running or not by using command >emctl status dbconsole .Or you have some other issue.please write if there is any error.

Not able to access Oracle 10g XE database home page on Windows XP?

I wanted to practise pl/sql in my office pc. I installed Oracle 10g XE on my machine and after that I also started Agent from Services. However When i clicked on Database home page it doesn't start. Changing network configuration might create problem in network. Can anybody help me working out this problem or has any alternative to practise PL/SQL with tiny oracle database.

Problem In GO TO DATABASE HOME PAGE in oracle 10g XE updated

When i click the GO TO DATABASE HOME PAGE icon my web browser say "The page you are looking for is currently unavailable Server, Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer" and the address that it is openning is "http://127.0.0.1:8080/htmldb" can any one help me with this?
Im using oracle 10g express edition, the one that is available for free download. And my operating system is windows xp SP2.

Installed Oracle 10g on Windows XP Service Pack 2 won't open admin page

When I go to the home page and login, it just comes back to the login screen instead of the admin screen. I know it's processing the login because it will tell me if I use a bad password.

Was your oracle 10g installation successfull or not?. Please make sure all oracle services are running or not. You can check them as mentioned below.
start->run->services.msc
check for these services.
a) OracleDBConsole<SID>
b) OracleOraDB10g_home1TNSListener
c) OracleService<SID>
If any of the services is down please try to start it.
What username/password you are using to login?

Why isn't there a download link to Oracle 10g (10.1.0.2) for Linux x86 on the 10g download page?
And what's the difference between 10.1.0.3 and 10.1.0.2?

 The level of one release is different with plateform.
On the Oracle Database 10g Downloads you can find only final release, and not intermediare patch. For example, the 10gR1 for Linux x86 is 10.1.0.3, and for Windows 32-bits this is 10.1.0.2, after what you can upgrade to the last patchset.

Oracle 10g XE - unable to connect to the database home page

Hi,
I have installed Oracle 10g XE on my computer. When I try to open the Database home page at http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex, I get a Page not found error.
I have followed the steps outlined in the forums-
a) did "netstat -a"
Output : found that port 8080 isn't being used.
b) did "lsnrctl status"
Output: under Services summary - instance "CLRExtProc" is unknown
- instance "PLSExtProc" is unknown
- instance "xe" is ready
- instance "xe_xpt" is ready
c) did "sqlplus / as sysdba"
Output : Connected to Oracle 10g Express Edition
d) did "select status from v$instance "
Output : Mounted
e) did "select open_mode from v$database"
Output : Mounted
f) did "startup"
Output : started the database
Not sure why the database home page still wouldn't open. Any help is appreciated.

Please specify the full version of the application server, what is the link that you are trying to access? How are you starting the application server?

Installing Apex 3.0 on Oracle 10g (10.2.0) Database

I have installed Oracle 10g(version 10.2.0) Database. Now I am trying to configure Application Express Apex 3.0 to it. I and following the Installation Guide provided to install Apex 3.0 on Oracle 10g. But i am facing the following issues, i am pasting the complete issues which are encountered. What I am suggesting is not the cause of the FLOWS_030000 user existing error, but could be another issue which caused your installation to fail.
In your post, you said...

You have specified an absolute path when running the apexins.sql script. In order for the installation to succeed, you must first change your working directory to the directory where you unzipped the apex_3.0.zip file and then run the script. This is because the apexins.sql script subsequently references other sql scripts, using relative paths.
You have also not included a password in your command, was this just for purposes of the posting, or could this also be an issue, as in:
@apexins password tablespace_apex tablespace_files tablespace_temp images

Connection to Oracle 10g

I have a webserver with both Oracle 8 and 10g clients
installed.
I have setup the DSN's through ODBC Administrator to a 10g db
and a 8 db and they both test successfully.
However when I try to setup the Data Sources in the CF
Administrator I get the following error for the 10g data source...

When you set up the the ODBC DSN through the Windows ODBC
Administrator, was there a 10g ODBC driver available? Have you
actually downloaded and installed the Oralce ODBC driver for 10g
from OTN at
Oracle
ODBC Drivers for Windows (32bit) Download Page? There are two
versions available for 10g (10.1.0.5.0 and 10.2.0.2.0). You say
that you have the Oracle 8 and 10g clients installed, but the ODBC
drivers may be a separate installation, and you may be trying to
use the Oracle 8 ODBC driver with the 10g client and database.

Oracle 10g - Date format in SELECT query for CFOUTPUT

Hello, everyone.
The project that I am working on in the dev environment is connected to an Oracle 11g database, but the production side is Oracle 10g.
I have a page that is erroring in production (but not development) when it gets to a date that it needs to display.
A co-worker mentioned that, in 10g, if a date/time is being SELECTed, you have to put it in to_char(), so I did that.
But it's still erroring, and I'm not getting an error message, so I'm assuming that I have an incorrect format for the date in the SELECT.
What is the proper format for SELECTing a date/time when using to_char()? Right now, I have SELECT to_char(create_date,'MM-DD-YYYY HH:MI') FROM tableA . Is this not correct for CF to output?

It made sense, to me, when I typed it. But, then, I'm usually typing fast just to get the question out there, when I'm in a hurry.
Haven't done a CFDUMP, yet, as every time I make a change in development that needs to be tested in production, I have to notify my supervisor that there are files that need to be copied into production, which can sometimes take a while, so I try to do troubleshooting on dev side - it's a pain in the you-know-what, but that's the kind of environment I'm working in.
As it turns out, changing the format in the SELECT to_char() did the trick. If anyone else has this issue with Oracle 10g, I'm now using SELECT to_char(create_date,'YYYY/MM/DD HH:MI') FROM tableA, and now the CFOUTPUT is processing the whole page. I guess the MM-DD-YYYY threw CF into a tizzy, breaking the process?
Anyhoo, it's working, now. Thank you, Dan and Adam, for your thoughts on this.

Error in Installing Oracle 10g Express Edition Universal on WIndows2003

While Installing Oracle 10g XE Universal On WIndows 2003 Server Standard Edition(Which is a standalone Machine). I got an following Error:
Error No: 0x80040707
Error Description: DLL Function Call Crashed: GetHostnameDll.getHostname.
Plz find some solution for the above problem.

Here's the resolution that can work for you:
Disable the "Print Spooler" service before running the installer.
1.Open Control Panel: Start --> Settings --> Control Panel
2.Double-click "Services"
3.On the list of NT Services, right-click "Print Spooler"
4.Select "Stop"
5.Select "Properties"
6.Under Startup Type, select "manual" or "disabled"
7.Reboot your NT Server
8.After rebooting, verify that the Print Spooler is still "stopped".
9.Delete Program Files\Common Files\Installshield\Engine folder
10.Re-run the installer.
11.After installation, re-set the Print Spooler service to Startup type "Automatic" and start the service.

How to avoid of application running on Oracle 10g to be copied?

I am a newbie to the security issues, so I need your help, please, where to start / what to read:
I have an application running across many customers on Oracle 10g. I have faced lately that our users
can use their daily backups to establish a totaly new database on a same / different server
and point our application to use it as well.
Is there any way to avoid it? F.e. I thought to use SELECT * FROM v$instance; to get the server instance details, and
in result with some other function to obtain, let say, local server's (WIN2003) details,
such as HD Serial Number, MAC number or so and then to check these values each time user runs the application.
Is it the correct way? What are the basics here at all?

A lot of enterprises, however, actively avoid systems which are locked down to a particular server for very legitimate reasons. If my data center dies in the middle of the night, I sure don't want to have to call your mobile phone so that you can get to a computer, log in to the office network, and get me a new key so that I can finish my emergency failover. If I've got dozens of applications, I absolutely don't want to do that with dozens of different vendors.
It sounds like your problem, though, isn't that users are installing your software on multiple computers it's that they are accessing functionality they haven't licensed. That is generally a much easier problem to solve and doesn't require you to lock anything down to a particular machine. You can create a table LICENSED_CONTENT, for example,

)In this case, KEY is, say, a hash (using the DBMS_CRYPTO or DBMS_OBFUSCATION_TOOLKIT packages if you'd like) of the client_id, content_type, and a bit of salt (i.e. a fixed string that only you know). When you sell a license to manage diamond content, you provide a script that inserts the appropriate row in the LICENSED_CONTENT table. When your application starts up, it reads the LICENSED_CONTENT table and verifies the hash before allowing users to access that type of content. This allows legitimate customers to move the software from one system to another but prevents them from accessing new functionality without a new license.

Installation problem with oracle 10g release 1 in RHEL ES 4 platform

Hi,
I am facing such a problem. I want to install Oracle 10g release 1.
I am using linux 86_64
os is RHEL ES 4 UPGRADE 5 X_86_64
When i put the command ./runInstaller It shows os is not supported.
Is there any way to install this oracle version.
Can u please suggest which version os is suitable for this.

WHICH 10gR1 software do you use? Oracle provides different versions, you need 10.1.0.3 for Linux x86-64 from the OTN download page.
By the way I would install 10gR2.

Oracle 10g on Ubuntu 8.04

I tried to install Oracle 10g on Ubuntu 8.04 followed the steps on this page http://kdevendr.wordpress.com/2009/01/21/installing-oracle-10g-on-linux-mint-and-ubuntu.
When i type sqlplus “/as sysdba”, it said ORA-12547: TNS : lost contact. When i tried to access http://vic4ever-laptop:5560/isqlplus, it didn't work.
