Paged query results within a TIle ?

what is the best way to page query results within a Tile
component ?
eg. I have a Tile component with multiple Repeater Image
links supplied via an HTTPService call to a PHP script.
I want to break up the tiled result pages to save loading
time.
Would I load the entire result set into Flex, and then
control how they are viewed by using the horizontal or
verticalScrollPosition property of the Tile container, or perhaps I
could make multiple HTTPService calls for each page of results ?
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

What about using the tilelist object for multiple returned
images? You can provide the list as the dataSource to the TileList.
The images are dynamically linked and they are delivered from the
server when they are rendered. That way you could bring down the
url for many images and dynamically link to the images. This would
allow you to bring down many rows at one time.

  • Paged query results in a JSP page

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement to display only a small number of records (say 50) in a JSP page at a time from a database query that returns more than 10,000 records. For accessing all the other records I have to provide links from the same page. I should be able to go to the first, last, next & previous sets of records at any time. Database is Oracle and the table I am using to query doesn't have a serial number column. Any easy way? Thanks Raj

    Hi Raj,
    There are two ways to handle it.
    One is to fetch the entire set of record from the Database and store the details in a Container which has session level context. But if the fetched size is higher then Session cannot hold that much amount of data.
    Alternatively you can go about fetching fixed chunks of data from the
    Database(preferably of size 50 to 100). This can be achieved using SQL queries. I have done this and seems to work pefectly in situations where large data available in Database has to be displayed pagewise to the users. (U will find the query in AskTom site of Oracle Corporation).
    Please revert back if any further help is needed in this regard.

  • Using CTRL + F not working to find any text within the query result

    Hi friends,
    I am trying to use find option to find any text within the result section of a query but when I do CTRL+F  the find window appears and I can input the text that I wanted. But when I press Enter it is not giving me any result though the entered text
    is in the query result. I am using Sql Server 2012 Management studio. Any Body please help me. There is a job that I have to search certain things after running a script and now I am doing copy paste to excel and doing searching from there.

    Prashant,
    Looks like you are trying to do in SSMS, and it is because the result set is in Grid view , if you want to use CTL + F then your result should be in Text format, try to do using CTL + T ( To get result in Text) and then use CTL + F to find any
    text.
    Thanks

  • Saving query results to a flat file

    Hello Experts!
    We have a very specific issue on our current project and I would like to know if any of you have ever done something similar. We are taking query results from BW (after complex calculations, some based on SY-DATE) and saving them to flat files to transfer to a SQL database structure on the Enterprise Portal. From here, the portal team renders the information into more "static" dashboards that include mouse over features and even limited drilldown (i.e. no matter where a user clicks the report always drills down on profit center)
    There are many reasons why the model is set up as such (mostly training of executive level end users), and even though it doesn't mesh with the idea that BW could do this work on its own, we have to work with what we have.
    We have come up with 3 possible ways to save this data to flat files and hopefully someone can tell us which might be the most effective.
    1.) Information Broadcasting. If we broadcast XML files to the portal, will the portals team be able to read that data into a SQL database? Is there another way to use broadcasting to create and send a flat file to specific location?
    2.) RSCRM_BAPI. This transaction seems to not support texts.
    3.) Open Hub. In order to get the open hub to work, we first have to save all of our query results to direct write data store objects using APD. (calculations based on current date, for example, would require daily full loads to the underlying data providers otherwise.)
    What is the best way to accomplish this? Is information broadcasting capable of doing this?
    Thanks!

    Hi Adam,
    Do you have to use flat files to load the information to a SQL database? (if so maybe someone else has a suggestion on which way would be the best).
    I try to stay away from flat file uploads as there is a lot of manual work involved. May I suggest setting up a connection to your SQL table in the DBCON table and then writing a small abap program to push data into the SQL database (which you can automate).
    1) Use APD to push data into a table within BW.
    2) Go to transaction SM30 > table DBCON and setup a new entry specifying the conncection parameters to your SQL database.
    3) In SE38 Write an ABAP program along the folloing lines (assuming the connection you set in DBCON is named conn1:
    data: con_name like dbcon-con_name
    con_name = 'conn1'.
    exec sql.
      set connection :con_name
    endexec.
    ****have a select statement which reads data from your table which the data is saved from the APD into an internal table**********
    ****loop on the internal table and have a SQL insert statement to insert the records into the SQL table as below******
    exec sql.
    insert into <SQL TABLE> (column names seperated by ,)
    values (column names of the internal table seperated by ,)  if the internal table is named itab the columns have to be specified as :itab-column1
    If you decide to take this approach you may find more info on DBCON and the process in sdn. Good Luck!
    endexec.

  • Large query result set

    Hi all,
    At the moment we have some java classes (not ejb - cmp/bmp) for search in

    Now we have a problem i.e. records have grown too high( millions ) and

    you can think of following options
    1) paging: read only few thousands at a time and maintain a index to page
    through complete dataset
    2) caching!
    a) you can create a serialized data file in server to cache the result set
    and can use that to browse through. you may do on the fly
    compression/uncompression while sending data to client.
    b) applet based solution where caching could be in client side. Look in

    Thanks Slava Imeshev,
    We already have search criteria and a limit. When records exceeds thatlimit
    then we prompt user that it may take sometime, do you want to proceed? If
    he clicks yes then we retrieve those records. This results in lot ofmemory
    consumtion.
    I was thinking if there is some way that from database I can retrieve some
    block of records at a time rather the all records of a query. I wander how
    internet search sites work, where thousnds of sites/pages match criteriaand
    client can move back & front on any page.

    Hi chauhan,
    You may want to narrow search criteria along with processing a
    limited number of resulting records. I.e. if the size of the result
    is bigger than a limit, you stop fetching results and notify the client
    that search criteria should be narrowed.
    HTH.

  • Cell definition in Query Design within Bex Analyzer

    Hello,
    I would like to use special cell definition to visualizing the difference row definition between 2 columns (last year and actual year). With "Cell Definition" function in Query Design within Bex Analyzer there's a option to select a new restricted key figure for a related cell. But as a result I just can see a star (*) against a result number in that field. Do you have an idea, how can I solve this problem?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Nuran

    Hi again Dirk,
    there's not a unit problem. We use 2 different restricted key figure definition for a same row. The first restricted (or can be decribed as calculated key figure) key figure must be used in the first column to represent the value of the last year. And at the same row with usage of same text (for example: cost of goods sold)the second restricted key figure should be used to show the value of actual year (B2:costs in euro). The problem is the key figure definitions are totaly different; they're using different account groups etc. Cause of, I wanted to use cell definition function. In the first value field (B1) should be shown first key figure but I just get star (*) and a wrong value in the formula field of excel (between the toolbars and the result area).
    Thanks for your reply.

  • How to display the query results in several pages?.

    Hi,
    i want to display the query results in several pages. for example my query result found 50 matches, now i want to print 20 per pages next 20 will be in next pages. iam using only jsp & mysql.

    Hi, what you are trying accomplish is known as pagination.
    You could use JSTL tags with Custom Tags to perform pagination in your JSP pages.
    evnafets showed me DisplayTags , you could use those as well http://displaytag.sourceforge.net/11/tut_externalSortAndPage.html
    Here is one article on paging:

  • Create a CF Query Result Set in Java

    I'd like to programatically build a ColdFusion query resultset inside of a Java class and return it to the calling application.  See the Java psudocode below to see what I'm talking about:
    public class MyClass {
         public coldfusion.sql.QueryTable getQuery() {
              // Create a query table object
              QueryTable myTable = ..?
              // Loop through some set of instance data for my class
              for(int c = 0; c < this.myWigets.length; c++) {
                   int row = c+1;
                   myTable.setField(row, nameCol, this.myWigets[c].name);
                   myTable.setField(row, colorCol, this.myWigets[c].color);
              return myTable;
    I've had stuff like this partially working in the past but had issues with things like query of queries and such probably due to the hacks used to create the QueryTable object.  I'm mainly just checking in to see if there has been any progress made in this area.  To me this seems like such an obvious thing for a Java developer working within CF to want to do.  I'm surprised Adobe doesn't have an officially supported API for doing this sort of thing (or maybe I'm just too dumb to find it.)    A few other notes... I'm not using CFX, and I'm not starting with a java.sql.ResultSet otherwise I would use the QueryTable(java.sql.ResultSet) constructor.  I need to build this thing from scratch programatically.
    Thanks for your time.  I hope this question makes sense to someone out there.
    - Mike

    I appologize.  I wasn't very clear with my original question.
    I'm creating an instance of my Java class from within CF using createObject("java", "com.example.MyClass").  So based on the sample code in my original post on the CF side I'd like to do something like this:
    <cfscript>
         myObj = createObject("java", "com.example.MyClass");
         myObj.doSomeStuff();
         myCFQuery = myObj.getQuery();  // Return a CF query from my java class
    </cfscript>
    ... then do stuff like ...
    <cfquery name="mySortedQuery" dbtype="query">
         select     *
         from       myCFQuery
         order      by color
    </cfquery>
    I appriciate your suggestions so far.  I have other solutions working already but they are not ideal.  I was just hoping someone had a clean and as-hack-free-as-possible way of creating a ColdFusion query result set in Java and passing it back to CF.
    Thanks again,
    Mike

  • "Dead" Space before Query Results Display

    We were required to use PL/SQL to create a report within HTMLDB. The report runs fairly quickly and is displayed as desired in the window with one exception. "Dead" space is always placed on the screen before the query results. In many cases, this space is only a couple of lines. In cases where the result set is a few hundred lines, there are a few hundred lines (usually a comparable number to the result set) before the query result. Therefore, the user sees an empty screen and doesn't always know to scroll down several times to reach the output. We are looking for a means to eliminate this leading space.

    To perform the reqired sorting and add a checkbox to each section of the report, using PL/SQL embedded into the HTMLDB was the best method. Within the PL/SQL we used the htp.* commands to format the HTML. Unfortunately, this results in prgressively more empty lines before the actual report display with larger result sets.

  • cache-query-results question

    I have another post for general descriptor tag information but I do have a specific question. In a project I am looking at I see:
    <cache-usage> check cache by primary key </cache-usage>
    <cache-query-results>false</cache-query-results>
    <maintain-cache>true</maintain-cache>
    I'm not sure how to interpret this. Does this mean that a cache is in place or not? cache-query-rests is set to false which implies no caching, yet the other parameters imply a cache is in place. What overrides here?
    Thanks

    The XML maps directly to the API so the JavaDocs and related documentation are the best tools:
    cache-usage: query.setCacheUsage(int)
    This option indicates how the object cache should be used when processing the query. This is how in-memory query is configured as well as support for cache-hits on ReadObjectQuery.
    cache-query-result: query.setShouldCacheQueryResults(boolean)
    This option allows you to indicate that the results returned from the query execution should be held. When the query is executed again these results will be returned without going to the database or searching the object cache. This is just caching the results locally within the query.
    maintain-cache: query.maintainCache() or query.dontMaintainCache()
    This setting determines if the results returned from the query should be cached in the shared object cache. It is on by default and turning this off is very rare. Occasionally done to compare the cache version with the database verision when handling an optimistic locking failure.

  • Straight SQL query results are considerably faster than a FUNCTION...

    Hey all,
    First time new poster, long time reader.
    I have a function that calls a specific query with 2 variables. When I execute the query and hardcode the values, it executes <strong>much </strong>quicker than when the function is called, and the values are passed. I'll give some examples below... here's the full function:
    FUNCTION get_golf_gameplay_completed (
    p_cabinet_id_in NUMBER,
    p_days_back_in NUMBER
    RETURN ref_cursor
    IS
    cu_ref_cur ref_cursor;
    BEGIN
    OPEN cu_ref_cur FOR
    SELECT golf_game_data.cabinet_id, golf_game_data.player_num,
    TO_CHAR
    (global_utility_pkg.cnvrt_gmt_to_local_time_by_cab
    (golf_game_data.cabinet_id,
    golf_game_data.server_start_time,
    golf_game_data.server_start_time
    'MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI:SS AM'
    ) cab_local_event_timestamp,
    TO_CHAR
    (global_utility_pkg.cnvrt_gmt_to_local_time_by_cab
    (golf_game_data.cabinet_id,
    golf_game_data_end_time.server_end_time,
    golf_game_data_end_time.server_end_time
    'MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI:SS AM'
    ) cab_local_session_end,
    TO_CHAR
    (global_utility_pkg.cnvrt_gmt_to_local_time_by_cab
    (golf_game_data.cabinet_id,
    golf_game_data_end_time.server_end_time,
    golf_game_data_end_time.server_end_time
    'HH:MI:SS AM'
    ) cab_local_session_end_time,
    TO_CHAR
    (global_utility_pkg.cnvrt_gmt_to_local_time_by_cab
    (golf_game_data.cabinet_id,
    golf_game_data_end_time.server_end_time,
    golf_game_data_end_time.server_end_time
    'MM/DD/YYYY'
    ) cab_local_server_end_date
    FROM golf_game_data INNER JOIN golf_game_data_end_time
    ON golf_game_data.cabinet_id =
    golf_game_data_end_time.cabinet_id
    AND golf_game_data.player_num =
    golf_game_data_end_time.player_num
    AND golf_game_data.session_id =
    golf_game_data_end_time.session_id
    WHERE golf_game_data.cabinet_id = {color:#ff0000}<strong>p_cabinet_id_in</strong>{color}
    AND golf_game_data_end_time.cabinet_id = {color:#ff0000}<strong>p_cabinet_id_in</strong>{color}
    AND golf_game_data_end_time.server_end_time IS NOT NULL
    AND golf_game_data.server_start_time &gt;= SYSDATE - {color:#ff0000}<strong>p_days_back_in</strong>{color}
    ORDER BY golf_game_data_end_time.server_end_time;
    RETURN cu_ref_cur;
    END get_golf_gameplay_completed;
    I've highlighted the variables for readability.
    This is how I've been executing the function from the SQL*Plus command line:
    select tech_report_package.get_golf_gameplay_completed(122477,10) from dual;
    The speed differences between running the raw query versus the function as a whole have been driving me nuts. For the cabinet IDs (the first variable inserted - in the case above, it would be 122477) that have a high amount of activity on the GOLF_GAME_DATA table, the query itself returns results within a few seconds (usually under 10 seconds even for the most bloated data). However, the function, when called with the same IDs, takes minutes - as long as 3 or 4 minutes in some cases.
    I've run various tests in a cloned production environment, and we've isolated any possible issues with networking, data contention, and partitioning (the GOLF_GAME_DATA table is not partitioned) - the issue is simply the query speed versus function speed, with no external influences.
    What baffles me is the fact that the function is very basic - all it does it executes the query and returns the results, just like the query... the only difference being the cursor that's opened.
    So, getting back to square one; my question was: <u>why would any query run much quicker than a function that does nothing but call the same query?</u>
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    -Bob

    No change after using that parameter in the session.
    Any other ideas? I was playing with results with one of my coworkers and my manager, and we were unable to produce any results that were, well, reproducable. Even after <strong>shutting the database down</strong>, and starting it back up, it seems that the results from some of the example queries that we were running were being cached on the SAN which hosts the database's files, or cached and restored after the instance was started up.
    FYI - we test on an instance that mimics production. It's a clone that's produced once a day against the production database, and has no user contention. We bring it up, and are able to test things like we would in production with no other users on the instance at the same time. We are still seeing slow results.

  • Interpretation of query results (one simple example)

    Hi Gurus,
    I have one question about the interpretation of query results. Especially for columns and when they are changed / moved in order within the BEx Analyzer.
    For example I have the following columns:
    Characteristics:
    Credit control Area
    Company code
    Sales Division
    Calendar/Month
    Key figures:
    Turn over
    Revenue.
    This interpretation would be from my point of view as follows:
    Turnover and Revenue by Credit control Area, Company code, Sales Division and Calendar/Month.
    If the characteristics are changed in order for example like this:
    Characteristics:
    Credit control Area
    Calendar/Month
    Sales Division
    Company code
    Key figures:
    Turn over
    Revenue.
    The interpretation should be the same and only the displaying/ grouping of results/ characteristics would change?
    Turnover and Revenue by Credit control Area, Company code, Sales Division and Calendar/Month.
    Thanks in advance!

    Ok, this means if you remove one characteristic for example "Company code", the characteristic "stays" in the background and the values are still the same (for the current selection). Only the appearrance (grouping) is different because one characteristic is less.
    If you ad new values, for example additional company codes, of course the values like summation are changing (summarized).

  • How to pass query result to HTML table?

    Hi,
      i want to get the query result in HTMl table instead of Display Grid. how to do it? i searched in help, it suggests use icommand to do this. but i dont know how to pass the select query result to HTML table.. please help me.
    -senthil

    Hi Senthil,
    You can create an icommand query. You can then use the icommand retrieval methods to capture and manipulate the query data.
    (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_xmii115/helpdata/en/Applet_Reference_Details/iCom
    mand_Reference.htm)
    Basically what we did was, use the getColumnCount() and getRowCount() methods, once you have these two numbers you can set two for loops and use String getValue(int ColID, int RowID) , within the for loops you can generate the inner html content and write the values either in a html table or html form (which is what we did). This seems to work well, I'm still playing around with it and may post this approach on sdn by end of this week.
