Pages rounding up numbers in a .doc file to 2 decimal places

Hello, I have a problem, with Pages (3.4) on OS 10.7.5...
When I go to open a .Doc file, Pages seems to round up some numbers to 2 decimal places. I did find another thread which dealt with this problem inside of Tables, but I am not using tables in this document.... another problem is that the new rounded up number is not editable in Pages once the document is open. e.g.
In word/open office I see the figure (which is in fact a series of dates - i did not write this document btw)
     12.12.24.1.13
in Pages is only see
     .13
and this .13 is totaly un-editable and unselectable.
Can you help ?

Got it!
I tried opening it in TextEdit but the funky dates were omitted from the page. Then I opened it in LibreOffice and it looked OK. The problematic dates seemed created by a special Word function. The behaving dates were manually written.
I selected all content of the document in LibreOffice and pasted into a Pages document and all dates came out as they should.

  • Round a double value to a specific number of decimal places?

    Hello,
Is there standard java function which will round a double value to a specified number of decimal places? Something like:
    double d = 4.34523;
    d = round(d, 2);
where d is finally assigned the value of 4.34?
    Thanks!
    -exits

No, because doubles hold values in binary (as do all values in a computer, of course, but there's no additional stuff to indicate decimal values).
If you want values with specific rounding rules in decimal, use java.math.BigDecimal.
If you just want to format the number with a specified number of decimal digits, use java.text.DecimalNumber.

  • How do I make Pages my default program for opening doc files

Currently TextEdit is the default program to open doc files that I download from emails. Now that I've installed iWork 08 I would like Pages to be the default program. Thanks!

Right-click any .DOC file and select Get Info. Then choose Pages as the open with application and select "Change For All. Pages is now your default app for .DOCs.

  • Set pages to be default program for *.doc files

Is it possible to set pages to be the default program which my computer will ALWAYS use to open a MS word document? In windows i could set default programs for specific file types, e.g. .jpg, .mpg, mp3. I did not have to assign a program to open the program every single time. As far as I can tell , I have had to request pages to open my word documents every time i open a word doc. for the first time. Although I can set pages to be the default program for that one file, i want it set to ALWAYS OPEN ALL WORD DOCS. , until further specified. Any suggestions?
    thx.

Highlight a known Word document in the Finder, highlight it & choose Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info box, click the triangle next to "Open With." Click on this drop-down menu & choose Pages. If Pages is not a choice, choose "Other" & navigate to the Pages application. Now click the "Change" button under the text that asks if you want to open all documents like this with Pages. You can then double-click the Word documents & they will open in Pages. Note that the icon for the Word files will have a plain, white icon.

  • Is "pages" app really compatible to word .doc files?

i tried opening word files with the pages yet it said that it was not compatible. i then had to open the file with another app in other to see it. i made a new file with pages and sent it via my email. i was not able to open it with the microsoft documents yet the description of the app said that it was compatible. How is this?

    What version of Pages?
    What version of Word?
    What was the file format?
You didn't send a .pages file to the PC?
PCs do not have Pages and can not open .pages files. You need to Export to Word .doc instead.

  • Automate creation of Pages documents from Numbers or delimited text file?

I'm just trying to find a way of automating my processes a bit.
Basically, you can assume I have information in a Number's document like this:
    File Name
    Headers
    1-FileName
Some Title with Capitlization I Need to Keep
    Subheading 1
    Subheading 2
    Subheading 3
    2-DifferentName
Some Title with Capitlization I Need to Keep
    Subheading 1
    Subheading 2
    Subheading 3Subheading 4
... Or in a text document like this:
    1-FileName
Some Title with Capitlization I Need to Keep
    Subheading 1
    Subheading 2
    Subheading 3
    2-DifferentName
Some Title with Capitlization I Need to Keep
    Subheading 1
    Subheading 2
    Subheading 3
    Subheading 4
    ====
I need to turn it into separate Pages documents such that I have (in this case, 2) documents in a folder
    1-FileName.pages
    2-DifferentName.pages
Where each document has the title and subheading already in it and it doesn't matter how many documents I need to make.
Any suggestions, help, straight up answers?
I really appreciate any help you can provide! orz

The APIs for file conversion are only available to plugins - they are not exposed to COM APIs. You can certainly write a custom plugin to handle this and then call it from your VB app. Plugins are written in C/C++.

  • Can't open doc. files in pages

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, Pages won't let me open doc files.
Is there a way I can fix this?
Also...I was just thinking about upgrading to the newer iLife09.
Would that be a better thing to do running Snow Leopard and what not?
And if I do upgrade to iLife09, I'll still be able to open iLife08 documents.
    Thanks

iLife & iWork are two separate software packages/suites sold by Apple. I do believe you mean iWork '08.
Many users are finding problems with the iWork apps in Snow Leopard due to not having the latest updates as of the September 28 installed. For iWork '08 that is Pages 3.0.3 & Numbers 1.0.3. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.2 & Numbers 2.0.2. iWork '09 has since had update 3. I don't use Keynote, but it should also be updated. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

  • Save pages as a .doc file??

On my old Pages, I could "save as" a .doc file easily...and everyone oculd open it and it would be fine.  My updates did a Pages update automatically and now I can't find the old "save AS" option and I can't figure out how to download as a .doc file.  HELP?!!  I don't want to think this, but has someone from Microsoft infiltrated the Apple Staff??

You didn't mention which version of Pages. The following is the File > Export To... panel in Pages v5.2. As Peter commented, and I would verify the export results to .doc/x from Pages v5.2 before I sent it to anyone. Also, I reiterate Peter's position about using Pages ’08/’09 if you have it.

  • Will doc files transferred from Microsoft word work in pages

Will be transferring doc files from Microsoft Word to new iMac, can Pages read them. Do I have to import them one at a time into Pages or when opening a particular doc file, will Pages automatically read it and let me revise document

Please clarify if you are saying that before i can edit the original document in Pages to begin with,  I have to do some sort of "export" to Word format.
You can open the Word document and edit it, and when you have finished editing the document, you need to export it to Word format. By doing this, you should be OK.

  • Trial question:  Can't open .doc files from web page

I'm using Dreamweaver on a Mac, and I have a link on a page
that should bring up a doc file. When I preview the page in Safari,
it brings up a directory listing which highlights the file so that
you can double-click and open the file. (Of course, I'd love for it
to go ahead and open the file, but my understanding is that
Dreamweaver Mac doesn't support that.) However, when I preview in
Internet Explorer, I either get a message that the File is Not
Found or it just spins and never brings up anything. The file is in
the root directory of my site (same directory as my index.html.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Do you have Word installed on your Mac? If you don't, it

  • Doc files not fully opening in pages

    Hi experts,
I am a recent convert from word to pages and I'm trying to transfer my doc. and docx. files to pages.  When I open the doc. files, they only have the first page (it looks like a screen shot) available in pages.  Can anyone help with the transfer process?  Thanks everyone.

You probably have an images that in Word is spread over several pages. That is something Pages can't do.
Either select the image and reduce the size or in Page setup change the paper size to a larger paper size.

  • Opening '.doc' files created by Appleworks

Hi,I couldn't find any discussion of this so am posting a question.
Pages 2.0 opens all our normal Appleworks word processor (cwk?) files OK, and also opens "real" ".doc" files created by Word (from others, we don't have Word).
Pages won't open Word type ".doc" files saved from Appleworks, and gives a message that it is an incorrect file type. If I use "get info" to remove the .doc extension from the name, Pages will open the renamed file. So pages appears to be okay opening Appleworks saved .doc files only if I remove the .doc from the name.
Kind of hard to do with several hundred files. Any suggestions?
    G42x800, G4Cube, Etc. Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I don't know what the problem is exactly. When I save a document as Word (6 or 98) in AW, no .doc extension is added to the file name. But here is a solution to remove the extension, if that helps:
Create a workflow in Automator. I use Automator on a german OS, I have tried to translate the commands, but you might have to search for the corresponding actions with a similar name.
    - Add the "Get Folder Content" action
    - Add the "Rename" Finder action
    - Select "Replace text" and replace ".doc" with nothing or with "AW doc"
Then save the action as a folder plugin and attach it to a "Convert AW docs" folder.
Any file dropped into the folder will be renamed according to your rules.

  • Open a .doc file

Just got a new iMac (Lion). I have older .doc files that it appears I can read and edit and save and print. I don't need the Microsoft word program for this. But for incoming .doc files sent via email, for instance, cannot be read.  Do I need to purchase Microsoft Word to open them? Does the Apple Pages program allow me to open .doc files?
    Thanks.

Pages, OpenOffice, and similar programs will open them. There's a trial version of Pages available on Apple's site.

  • Problem opening .doc files in pages/.xls files in numbers...

My hard drive recently failed and has been replaced.  Since the new hard drive was installed, I am unable to open .doc files with pages or .xls files with numbers.  I never had this problem before.

    I have I-work 09 [Pages 4.0 (727)]
This is the same version I had before (I think) -- At the Apple Store they used a new I-Work disc to install it onto the new hard drive.
I hope someone can help with this!
    Thank you!

  • Changes from a Pages document to a DOC file "re numbering" ..additional information

The iMac is an OSX version 10.8.5, Pages is 09 version 4.1
e.g. writing minutes of a meeting in Pages below:
    Old Business
    1.
    2.
    New Business
    1.
    2.
After conversion to DOC file this is what it looks like:
    Old Business
    1.
    2.
    New Business
    3.
    4.

Using Pages ’09 v4.1, I can only duplicate your export results if I choose to ignore that the Pages numbering default is to continue from previous — thus your source would need to show a 1 - 4 number series before export. You can rectify this, by positioning the pointer at the 3 list item, and choosing Start at 1, as shown below. When used in this manner, what you see, is what you get in the resultant Word .doc document.
The other approach is to just type “Old Business” followed by a return. Then, without using the List tab from the Text Inspector, simply type your own numbered items and content followed by a hard return. Now, you control the numbering yourself. In kind, “New Business” would follow, again with purposely typed number sequence. That exports to Word .doc nicely too. Doesn't matter whether you have Automatically Detect Lists enabled in Pages preferences or not.
