Pages Table, entering numbers beginning with a zero?

I have a table in Pages and when I enter a number, say 0004623 (I want the zeros!) in a cell, the three leading zeros are omitted when I tab to the next cell.
How do I keep the zeros?

As you are using 7 numbers incl zeros you can use the 'Numerical format' Base 10 to 7 places.
The format is available with all the others in the inspector > Cell (42).

  • When using a chart in Pages, the first zero is deleted in any number beginning with a zero

    When using a chart in Pages, the first zero is deleted in any number beginning with a zero (for example, 055). How do I stop this?

    The leading zero in the value 55 is unnecessary, so Numbers eliminates it for cells formatted as Number or Automatic. A cell formatted as Text prior to making the entry will take whatever you type into it and keep it as entered. A cell formatted as Numeral System will display as many places as you tell it to, and will add zeros as necessary without your even having to type them in.

  • Exporting Numbers file with leading zeros as csv file

    When I export a list of mobile phone numbers with leading zeros (086* etc.) from Numbers as a csv file, the leading zeros are stripped out, although the cells are previously formatted as text. What can I do about this?

    "When I export a list of mobile phone numbers with leading zeros (086* etc.) from Numbers as a csv file, the leading zeros are stripped out, although the cells are previously formatted as text. What can I do about this?"
    Well, the first thing you could do would be to post your question in one of the forums for Numbers.
    Click Discussions to get to the Discussions index page, then the section for the version of iWork you're using, then the Numbers forum in that section.
    In AppleWorks (which doesn't offer an opportunity to Save as or Export as csv) I'd force the application to see the phone numbers as text by inserting some non-numeric characters into the string of digits.
    Examples: 000-123-4567, 000 123 4567
    It may also be a function of the application you are using to open the csv file.
    When I did a brief test of the suggestion above with Numbers '09, I got this result on opening the file in Text Edit:
    ,1234567890,num
    ,123-456-7890,tex
    ,0123456789,num
    ,012-345-6789,tex
    ,0001234567,num
    ,000-123-4567,tex
    Note that both the examples entered as a string of digits only (num) and those entered with inserted hyphens (tex) kept the leading zeroes. Cell format for the column containing the phone numbers was set to Text.

  • Display numbers formatted with leading zeros or spaces.

    There are some cases where you might need to display numbers with leading zeros or leading spaces, or trailing zeros.  I experimented with several methods and came up with some examples.  This is a Console application, but the results can just
    as well be output to a listbox in a Windows form.
    Sub Main()
    Dim snum As String, inum As Integer = 56
    snum = inum.ToString()
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " ToString()")
    snum = inum.ToString("D4") 'adds leading zeros
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " ToString(""D4"")")
    snum = inum.ToString("F4") '4 decimal places with trailing zeros
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " ToString(""F4"")")
    Console.WriteLine()
    snum = String.Format("{0,4}", inum) 'leading spaces
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " Format{0,4}")
    snum = String.Format("{0:D4}", inum) 'leading zeros
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " Format{0:D4}")
    snum = String.Format("{0:F4}", inum) '4 decimal places with trailing zeros
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " Format{0:F4}")
    Console.WriteLine()
    snum = inum.ToString().PadLeft(4, "0"c) 'leading zeros
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " PadLeft(4, ""0""c)")
    snum = inum.ToString().PadLeft(4, " "c) 'leading spaces
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " PadLeft(4, "" ""c)")
    Console.ReadLine() Console.Clear()
            For x As Integer = 1 To 20
                snum = x.ToString("D4")
                Console.WriteLine(snum)
            Next x
            Console.ReadLine()
    End Sub
    Solitaire

    I would add that many of these methods also work with numeric types that are not integers.
    Note that the "D4" format string doesn't work for non-integral types (such as Double and Decimal), and the "F4" format string doesn't pad with trailing zeros, it rounds to 4 decimal places (which can lose information). PadLeft works with
    the entire string, it isn't aware of the decimal point.

  • Can I link a pages table to numbers spreadsheet ?

    I would like a table in Pages to display current data from a numbers spreadsheet.
    Is this possible in Pages and Numbers ?
    I do NOT mean copy and paste etc. which does not accomplish what I need.
    Any information gratefully received
    This has been possible in several applications for a looooong looooong time.
    If I remember rightly Wingz could do this sort of linking 20 years ago.  i.e link data in one document to data in another.

    Sorry for that oversight.  I am currently using iWork 08 and skipped 09 because I have gone from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.
    A transition I am not altogether happy with .  Not at all impressed by Mavericks so far.
    Apple Help promised me a lot would be fixed or restored in Yosemite..... not holding breath.
    I am thinking Mavericks is a code for back to the days of the old west since so much seems to have been abandoned...

  • Numbers with leading zeros

    I am using Framemaker 8 - unstructured.
    I have a requirement that the work packages/documents within a book contain an identifying number that begins with leading zeros and is four-digits long. This number also increments from one document to the next.
    For example, first work package is '0001', next one is '0002', '0003', .... '0010', '0011', etc.
    For the automatic incrementing, I am treating these work packages as chapters. However, I have not seen an automatic way to have the leading zeros.
    I've come up with the following process:
    First, I've created a text box on the master pages in which I entered 000 and then I insert the Chapter Number variable at the end. The tricky thing here is when I reach the tenth work package, the number on the master page has to change slightly to 00<$chapter number>. Note: I've tried also using the <n+> autonumbering scheme but this didn't work out as well as the chapter number variable.
    I've looked briefly into using conditional text for automatically deciding when '000' or '00' is used, but have been unable to figure this out.
    Any suggestions for something more automatic?

    You can fake this using paragraph autonumbering and create a tab leader where the "0" digit is used as the leader. Set a right-aligned tab position where you want the right-most digit of the id number to begin. You have to play around with position and font size to get it to look right.

  • Embed table from Numbers 09 Document

    I am using both Pages and Numbers when working with a business plan document. The content of the document is being authored in Pages and the financial documents are being managed with Numbers.
    How can I integrate full page tables from Numbers into a Pages document?
    With iWork 08 I was copying and pasting dozens of tables into Pages and doing basic formatting to make the entire table visible. I needed to paste these tables in a textbox in order to rotate them to landscape.
    Is there an easier way to link these tables in iWork 09? I really like the linking of charts but I do not see any way to do the same for tables.
    Any ideas?

    Hello,
    I have the same problem as you have (business plan...). Very annoying indeed. I already wrote a "pages feedback" to Apple. Perhaps you could do that, too. The more people "complain" the better.
    The sad part is that we will probably have to wait for pages '10 to see that feature.
    Best regards

    I am using a table in Numbers to plot daily graph lines. Mood swings of how I am on the day, i"m a depressive.
    If I fill a cell with a step box at say zero it plots the graph. I can't actually set the cell value until the actual day but the graph plots it at zero when I don't want it to plot anything. Is there a work around. so thatbgraph only plots on the day?

    The answer is (sort of) in your subject, but edited out of the problem statement in the body of your message.
    When you use a stepper or a slider, the value in the cell is always numeric, and is always placed on the chart if that cell is included in the range graphed by the chart.
    But if you use a pop-up menu cell, you can specify numeric or text values in the list of choices for in the menu. Numeric values will be shown on the chart. Text values will not.
    For the example, the values list for the pop-up menu was:
    5
    3
    1
    Choose
    -1
    -3
    -5
    The first pop-up was set to display Choose, then the cell was filled down the rest of the column. Any text value (including a single space, if you want the cell to appear blank) may be used instead of Choose.
    For charts with negative Y values, the X axis will not automatically appear at Y=0. If your value set will include negative values, I would suggest setting the Y axis maximum and minimum to the maximum and minimum values on your menu list, rather than letting Numbers decide what range to include on the chart. Place a line shape across the chart at the zero level, and choose to NOT show the X axis.

  • How do I select all "beginning with...", to copy and paste in numbers?

    Hi all, I hope someone can help me. I am working to re-organise a very large spreadsheet that I have exported from endnote. The entries are all jumbled and instead of being organised into columns all data has been entered row by row under the first column. To save me time is there a way for me to select all entries beginning with a certain word so that I can copy and paste them all into seperate columns? I hope that makes sense.

    See item 29 on this page. Choose 'Tab Delimited' as your export style and save a file with .tsv as the extension. Then drag that file into Numbers wherever you want it. You can also open the .tsv file in a text editor, command-a to select all, command-c to copy, click once in a Numbers cell, and command-v to paste.  The results should be aligned in separate columns.

  • How to enter a page break in numbers

    how do you enter a page break in numbers?

    In Numbers there is no concpet of "entering a page break".  You look at the print preview which you see when you select the menu item "File >Print...".
    If the pagination is correct you click the "Print" button.  If not then you click the "Done" button and move content around.  Often I place, temporary, rectangles on a page that take up the full page so I know where to put content, then remove them before printing.

    HI KC,
    then no need to download the zeros,
    after uploading, loop at that uploaded internal table and use CONVERSION_EXIT_APLHA_INPUT and pass the vbeln(without zeros) to this FM, it will return the value with added zeros.
    hope this solves your query
    a small example
    Loop at itab into is.
    CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERSION_EXIT_ALPHA_INPUT'
    EXPORTING
    INPUT = is-vbeln "(  this is without zeros)
    IMPORTING
    OUTPUT = is-vbeln. "( this is with leading zeros)
    modify itab from is.
    endloop.

  • How can I copy tables from Numbers to Pages without formula?

    hi everyone
    i need help
    How can I copy tables from Numbers to Pages without formula in the cells?

    Ok... I see your problem... when pasting into Pages, the formulas from Numbers are included. Perhaps this is really more of a Pages question (in which case I'm far from expert). A couple of ideas:
    • In Pages, try "Edit"/"Paste and Match Style", which may insert tab delimited cell values (no formulas). Then, if you want the table format back, select these newly pasted tabbed values and use Page's "Format"/"Table"/"Convert Text to Table"/
    • In Numbers, before copying, make a temporary table of the plain values first, then copy and paste that into Pages. To do this, select the range of cells you desire in the Numbers and "Edit"/"Copy". Then "Edit"/"Deselect All" and "Edit"/"Paste Values" and "Edit"/"Cut". Now just a table of values is on the clipboard and you can head over to Pages to paste.
