Panasonic HDC HS900+ final cut X

Just bought FCP X but it doesn't seem to see my camera, a panasonic HDC HS900.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks for responding Tom. I found another thread that answered my question:
Connect the camera before opening FCP, choose recorder insteard of PC, select hard drive. The camera then mounts on the desktop & when you open FCP you will be able to import video.

How do you connect (I know its USB - But camcorder only gives option of PC),  and import video from Panasonic HDC-HS900 ?
Are there any other video (eg. Sony) that have similar problems.
    Thanks

Another great resource for forcing Imovie to accept 50/60P content (Imovie defaults to 25 or 30P depending on if your using NTSC or PAL) is this page

There are a few steps to take but I can confirm that IMovie 8 works well with this method and I shoot, edit, use and burn Blu Ray compatible 50P (I'm using a PAL camera) content all the time with my HDC-HS900

  • AVCHD, Panasonic SD9, and Final Cut Pro FRAME RATE! crashing!

Ok - I am still getting nowhere with hidef - esp AVCHD!
I purchased a brand new iMac, totally spec'd out, AND Final Cut Studio YESTERDAY.
I am trying to import AVCHD files - to no avail - crashes FCP.
I tried the work-around of using Voltaic, which converts to the AIC, and when I import THOSE files the video shows as 10fps. I cannot seem to get the correct settings to get the video to play back up to speed. The audio sounds correct, but the video is in slow motion. Can someone help me figure out how to use $3,300 of a new computer and software -that I bought in order to use a $800 camera? Am I crazy or what?
ALSO, iMovie 08 will NOT run AVCHD files - OR convert them, I tried, and that crashed TOO!
Apple has let me down, even though their tech assistant was very nice on the phone - there is STILL no solution. I cannot use FCP OR iMovie. How ridiculous!
    HELP PLEASE!

Thanks for your reply - but Perian 1.1 does not solve it at all - FCP still crashes upon attempting log and transfer..
My system is this: 10.5.2 OS
iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
And I have TODAY'S latest version of FCP.
Are you using the exact same camera? Or are you confusing it with the Panasonic HDC-SD5? I'm using the SD9 - tech support just sent me this article:
Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express: Unexpected quit with Panasonic HDC-SD9 AVCHD
Thanks again - I sure wish I could use my 800$ camera and 3,300$ hardware and software!

  • Firewire 800 problem? cant see my Panasonic camcorder on Final Cut Express

    Hi
I have a new IMAC 27 in, intel dual processor (which I love) and its running the lastest version of snow leopard. I got it for video editing (dec 09) and I'm fairly new to macs and the firewire 800.
I have a panasonic 3ccd camera nNV-GS500 and after finally figuring it out I got a new cable - a brand new firewire 800/400 cable. However nothing can be seen when I start up Final Cut pro express or imovie.
I have tried turning off mac, unplugging it, then turning on camera before turning on imac.
Looking at some of the threads it seems there are some issues for seeing camcorders with firewire 800 and that a firmware? (is this a download for hardware update) is an update is due - can anyone confirm what i should do.
    thanks in advance

Cathy, welcome to the Discussions group.
Here is the list of camcorders supported by iMovie and Final Cut Express. Your camera is not in the lists but may still work.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2948
When you are using the camera are you running it from its battery power or is it plugged into its own power source (same question would apply to your external drive which may have a problem if its not using its own power supply depending upon how much power it would draw from the computer and how much power it needs to be reliable). You should be running the camera from its own power supply.
When you are having a problem, isolate the sources of potential conflict. Make sure no other devices are plugged into the computer. That means you'll be transferring your video to your internal disk. You can always copy or move it later to an external disk if that's where you want to store it permanently.
Follow the instructions in your camera manual carefully and we hope that works. If it doesn't work, then be creative. If the manual says to start the camera first in PLAY mode, start it in RECORD mode but then switch to PLAY mode to jumpstart FCE or iMovie to recognize there's a camera installed. That hint was provided in another thread on this topic and worked for that person. You can vary starting the camera before FCE or iMovie and then try starting FCE or iMovie first followed by the camera. Just a few variations and hope again one works.
All variations fail, and the vendors web site indicates it should work, then maybe your Firewire port on the computer has a problem. Look in "About This Mac" to see the status of the Firewire service with different devices plugged in. It's not a common problem but can happen.

  • Panasonic SDR-H250 + Final Cut Express 4

Can I bypass iMove 08 and import straight into Final Cut Express 4? I have MacBook pro 17 arrive this morning and tried to download from my Panasonic SDR-H250. I feel like a ** fool as it is my first camcorder. I am not sure how to go about with this please advise me. I know that my friend suggested Final Cut Express 4.

What???!!!! I'm not saying anything like that. In fact every single HD camera is different. There are now dozens of different HD formats and specs.
All the consumer cameras compress HD to record it.
"is there no difference in choosing camera's compatible with FCE or iMovie?"
I don't know what these means. If you're going to be working with FCE, you're probably better off getting a camera that's compatible with it. The SD5 I know works at 1440x1080. I understand the SD9 made changes to the way the material is recorded and is not compatible with Final Cut. I may be wrong about that but I thought I saw an Apple white paper about it.

  • SH inputting on Panasonic GH1 into Final Cut Express

    Hi
I have just bought a Panasonic GH1 and I am struggling to import (Log and Transfer) clips which have been filmed in "SH" mode, which is 720p format (50fps). The clips are AVCHD. When I film in "FHD" mode, which is 1080p it imports these fine, with no issue at all?
I have altered the setting in the Easy Set up menu, but every time I try and drag the clips in, Final Cut Express crashes?
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?
Any direction or support is much appreciated.
    Many thanks, Martin

    FCE4 does not support 720/50p, only 25/30p ..
according to Panas press release your device offers 1080 as 50i/60i not p ...
    FCE4 supports 1080/50/60/i

  • Panasonic HMC150 and Final cut Pro Problems

I have been shooting with a Panasonic HMC150 HD camera for a few months right now. As far as I can tell - final cut Pro can't handle the footage well. I find that hard to believe so I assume that I am doing something wrong! I "Log & Transfer" the footage as Pro Res. I bring my footage into Final cut. I'll open a Sequence - Drag & Drop a clips into the timeline and let final Cut choose the Sequence settings for me. I generally shoot at the 720p setting. For the most part I can Scrub, use the razor blade tool, trim etc., but eventually Final Cut will just crash and disappear, or I'll be working and get the spinning Beach Ball. I also have installed Jon Chappell's Digital Rebellion tools - one of the tools is a "Crash Analyzer." Some of the errors are: "Graphics Card," "Final cut was overloaded" "Plugin" several different things.
My graphics card is: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT...Is it too small or something?
I generally output DV/NTSC 48kz. Alot of my stuff goes to the local cable company and they don't have HD for the local stuff. So, once I get my HD footage trimmed - I start dropping the clips into the DV/NTSC sequence and start trimming, moving, scrubbing again to get things to edit in perfectly. this is when the really bad crashing starts! Not only does it crash frequently - Final Cut doesn't always save properly either!
So, not sure how to fix this...Mare RAM? Different Graphics Card? Anyone?

    Great camera.
As far as I can tell - final cut Pro can't handle the footage well.
In general, incorrect. Probably something in your system or workflow. Let's figure it out.
I "Log & Transfer" the footage as Pro Res.
Good. Where is your Capture scratch set to?
let final Cut choose the Sequence settings for me.
Good. This assures that the sequence settings match your footage.
I generally shoot at the 720p setting.
    Should work just fine.
or I'll be working and get the spinning Beach Ball.
Generally a sign you need more RAM. How much is installed?
I also have installed Jon Chappell's Digital Rebellion tools - one of the tools is a "Crash Analyzer." Some of the errors are: "Graphics Card," "Final cut was overloaded" "Plugin" several different things.
Graphics card, yeah, you could stand to upgrade, but let's try other things first.
Plugin. Do you have any 3rd party plugins installed, or are they all the stock plugins that come with FCP?
So, once I get my HD footage trimmed - I start dropping the clips into the DV/NTSC sequence
Don't do this. Do your edit completely in the sequence that you've let FCP create for you. When you export, use Compressor to downconvert your final product to DV.

  • Help. Panasonic gh3 to Final Cut Pro.

Hello, I recently purchased the Panasonic gh3 but I can´t find a program to convert images to a format my computer can read. I tryed with Silkypix but it automatically earases all the effects I used in the pictures. And also when I imported the videos to Final Cut Pro I had trouble with the audio and video, they don´t really match with real time. Could someone please tell me how can I match them? And if someone knows a good converting program I would appreciate it.
    Thank you.

Take out the SDHC card, insert into card reader etc. connected to Mac and click the "Import" button in FCP X.
All the clips should appear in the window ready for importing.
I believe it shoots 50p/60p, so as long as you have an up to date version of FCP X it should import the footage.

  • Panasonic GH2 and Final Cut Express?

Does anyone have any experience in importing into Final Cut Express with a Panasonic GH2? I have about $1000 to spend on a new camera for work and the camera was recommended to me but not by someone who uses FCE. I have been using a Canon Vixia SR 20 smoothly with FCE, but now have a chance to purchase a new camera for video.
I am also wondering if it is a good choice should I eventually move to Final Cut Pro X. I have seen some of the forum talk about this camera and some issues it has with FCP X, but right now am looking to find someone who has used it successfully with FCE. Or a simillarly powerful camera recommendation in that range with a proven FCE track record also welcome. Thanks!
    Douglas

I use the same camera and it works for me. Make sure you are using the log and transfer function, in FCE, and not the log and capture. I am not sure what other advice to give other than to confirm FCE4 and the SD5 do play nice together, at least for me. I will say I have only used the SD card media with it so if your using a disc maybe it may be a different story -- I don't know.
Edit: Sorry I misspoke my camera is the SX5 -- from everything I understand and have read, however, it is functionally identical to the SD5. The difference being the SD5 only works with SD cards where this one has the option to record to mini DVDs.

  • I want to capture from my Panasonic HVX200 into Final Cut!

...specifically, I want to be able to man my HVX200, which is connected to the publishing station via firewire, and capture it into FinalCut real-time creating a new file every time I start and stop recording. I'm not having any problems capturing into FinalCut when I control the camera from the PC, I just can't get Final Cut to create new files when I'm controlling from the camera.

Final Cut Pro does not segment long captures into individual clips when the source is DV.
You have at least three options:
    • read up on Start/Stop detect + Subcliping
    • individually log then batch capture the tape
    • invest in a program like "live capture plus" from Squarebox. It will take a DV tape and segment it into individual clips based on start/stop information.
    Good luck.

  • Does Final Cut Express HD 3.5 support 30p/DVX100?

    Hey,
Something I need to know. Will 'progressive scan' be preserved? I do not want it to interlace the video once it is imported/captured.
Does anyone shoot 30p on the Panasonic DVX100 witih Final Cut Express HD 3.5?

    Hi Tom,
The link says, you may have black frames if:
"You're working with Panasonic AVCHD video files from an AVCCAM device recorded at 25p or 30p."
Can I know what id AVCCAM ?
I record a lot using Panasonic GH4 in 4K and Panasonic GX7 which is AVCHD.
Is my following assumption correct :
    Assumption 1:
Panasonic GH4 would not be a problem bcos it records in 4K
    Assumption 2:
My AVCHD from Panasonic GX7 wold not be a problem because all these while it ingest without problem. (NB: I dunno whether my GX7 records in AVCCAM)
    Thanks

How may I encode Panasonic HDC-TM700 footage for Final Cut Pro? It is 1080p/ 50 fps (in Europe)....

I have not bought the camera yet so I cannot try. I have heard that the footage is not suppose to be supported that easily since it is 28 MBS "Avchd?" format. However people seem to be able to edit it in Imovie....
