Parallel issue

Hi ,
i have been trying to figure this for some time now, so if you are interested , here we go.
Os is hpux 11, (i can't tell exact release because that machine and db is currently unavailable...)
and there are 4 dual core cpus
DB is 10.2.0.4.0
parallel max servers = 16
parallel min servers = 0
parallel message size is at default value, 2100 and something
parallel auto tuning is false
shared pool = 400M
while sga target is 0
sga max size is cca 11G
db cache size is 2G
and there is 16k cache size of 8G
SQL structure
(called inside function)
INSERT INTO big (col1,col2....)
        SELECT col1,col2...
        FROM
(select
        sum(col1),col2...
from (
        select col1,col2...
        from
             a
            ,b
            ,lc
            ,d
            ,e
            ,f
        where
               union
               select
            col1,col2...
        from
            a
     group by
            col1,col2...
)a -> global temporary table
big -> over 600GB in size partitioned table
e -> table created with parallel default option
f -> table created with parallel default option
there are also two more indexes created with parallel default option on those two table... sorry, i can't be more precise currently due to the db unavailability..
There are several succesful execution of that function which takes about 20-45 seconds and inserts always about 10,000 records, but then i see that session that does this job that is active bit apears to be stucked , and toad and V$ views are showing me tha above SQL is current statemnt.
That session is in this state until is killed. We left for few days and still it was showing the same waits and current SQL
wait events are :
PX Deq: Table Q Normal
and
PX Deq: Execution Msg
for all px processes of that sessoin
those two all have the same values
and for one, maybe this was the session that originaly called px procesess , there is
PX Deq Credit: send blkd
this one usual have the highest wait value
Also when i execute only those selects except the firts insert part, there are no problems, it finishes in about 20-45 seconds. I tryied this realy many times and i couldn't reproduce hang outside of that function.... maybe i would if i could run it with insert part, i don't know...
what do you think ?
any similiar experiences ?
also when that db will be up/available again i'll post any valuable info that i at this time could not....

Great.
It seems i manage to force the issue when executing SQL only.
I executed that select in toad and it was finished in about 30 seconds.
But , look at this , after select was done :
SQL> select * from v$px_process;
SERV STATUS           PID SPID                SID    SERIAL#
P000 IN USE            34 7606                229         85
P001 IN USE            42 7614                243        332
P002 IN USE            44 7621                241        245
P003 IN USE            43 7626                228          3repeated this select 10 minutes now and im getting the same result.
Note that my session in toad from which i executed select appeared inactive right after result were shown.
SQL> select sql_id,program,status from v$session where sid=242 and serial#=156;
SQL_ID        PROGRAM                                          STATUS
c9q8wuhdhgmdg toad.exe                                         INACTIVE..and then i did this :
SQL>  select sql_id,program,status from v$session where sid=241 and serial#=245;
SQL_ID        PROGRAM                                          STATUS
c9q8wuhdhgmdg oracle@fms-a (P002)                              INACTIVE
SQL> select * from v$px_process;
SERV STATUS           PID SPID                SID    SERIAL#

P001 IN USE            42 7614                243        332
P002 IN USE            44 7621                241        245
P003 IN USE            43 7626                228          3
SQL> select sql_id,program,status from v$session where sid=243 and serial#=332;

  • Parallels Issues

    Hi All,
    Anybody know anything about Parallels??
I have a user, running an IMac 20 inch, 2.16 GHZ, 1GB RAM who's Parallels is unexpectedly quitting four to five times a day?? Anybody have any ideas what could cause this. His OS is 10.4.9. The build version of Parallels is 3188 (March 7, 2007)
Any clues anybody, I'm new to this software and am having problems diagnosing this issue.

The best place to find them is probably the Parallels forums:

  • Adjusting for parallel issues

How do I crop when I want to straighten lines of buildings so to overcome the appearance of converging point?  I am trying to figure a way to grab a cropping handle and drag the image to make an unequal crop to overcome the lack of parallel from the camera angle.

Do you want to removed the skew and turn the lines converging towards a vanishing point into parallels? In Aperture only rectangular crop windows are supported. You will need to use a plug-in (e.g. PT-lens) or an external editor for perspective correcction.

  • Having trouble updating simply accounting on my MacBook.  I have upgraded to Parallels 7 and upgraded to simply accounting 2012.  Simply is now shutting down on setup saying it has encountered and error and must close.

Any suggestions on how to get Simply accounting 2012 to run in Paralles 7.  On setup simply is encounters and error and shuts down.

AngSteve... Unfortunately, you're not likely to get a solution here.  You're basically having trouble installing a Windows application in Windows.  It's not likely a Parallels issue, but there's no way to say for sure.  I would suggest you try getting support from Sage:

  • FileMaker Pro Server 8 LDAP Refesh Issue

    Hi -
I know this is the authentication section for Mac OS X Server. I am dealing with a parallel issue from FileMaker Pro Server 8 in regards to LDAP authentication so maybe I can find a fix here.
I have a PowerMac G5 with Mac OS 10.4.8 and FileMaker Server 8 loaded. I have bound the G5 to Active Directory. I have created AD goups, assigned those groups to databases and tested authentication. It all works. FMP Server 8 gets its authentication from the hosting computer. So my issue is that when I add/remove users from AD groups, the G5 does not immediately see the recent changes, thus FMP Server faults at authentication. I have to restart the G5 after AD group editing so the databases will get proper permissions.
    My question:
Is there a way to force the G5 to get new LDAP permissions without restarting? I've encounterd this before with Mac OS X Server.
    Thanks.
    XServe   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Turned out to be corrupted quicktime codecs. Pulled them out of the main library and no more crashing.

  • Urgent Parallels Question

    Hello,
Hoping to find help here as the Parallels board requires such a delay of response.
I have been using parallels to print from GoToMyPC, which is a remote desktop viewing program which can only print from PC due to some java setup. Everything had been working fine (with some adjustments) until I upgraded from Parallels version 3 to 4. Now, suddenly, I can't print. I tried working with GoTo's help desk, but once they saw Parallels, they wouldn't support me. They said that if I could boot up totally into Windows they would - but not through Parallels.
Any guidance here? I need to print this way early this week.
    Questions.
    1. Any ideas?
    2. If I do need to boot up straight into Windows (without using Parallels), do I need to reinstall a second copy of this Windows on my computer? This will waste space, no? How can I do this? Do I need to create a whole partition, etc?
    3. Any ideas of how to fix this without having to log into the PC without parallels?
    4. Any idea of what would have changed in this upgrade?
I called Parallels support and after speaking to a guy for an hour, he finally figured out he couldn't help me and upgraded me to a higher level person - which will contact me via email in 3 days or so!?
I appreciate your help! Thanks so much.

Fixed my parallels issue. Thank God!
Here is what fixed it (in case anyone else suffering from this finds this post):
    I downloaded Bonjour for Windows.
    Here is the info:
Set up your printer via Apple Bonjour like it is described here:

  • Can anyone help with a Parallels/WinXP/printer problem?

I have a MacBook running Parallels and Windows XP. I'm trying to install the software/drivers for an HP 6210 all-in-one printer. When I run the setup program, it extracts itself, zips through its four listed steps, etc.--and then just disappears. Nothing else happens.
While I suspect this is a problem with HP's software, anyone have any thoughts? Could it be a Parallels issue? Has anyone been able to successfully install a printer under Parallels?
    TIA!

Sorry if it sounded like I was telling you to "go away." Far from it: I was trying to point you to the place where you might get an answer most expeditiously. I'm trying to save you time vs. simply having your question sit around unanswered.
For example, if other Parallels users have had the same problem, the Parallels folks would be the most likely know. I would not assume that"Parallels' answer will inevitably be, "We don't support third-party software."without first asking them.
You'd be surprised to know how many times folks post questions here about third-party applications and the questions go unanswered, while the answer is actually waiting to be found at the Web site of the third-party app's developer.
You might also try the HP Web site since it may be a general problem with that set of drivers under Windows.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro 15" new 2.3Ghz 10.6.8 FREEZING - Parallels Window 7

Hello, my new Macbook Pro freezes up when I exit using Parallels 6 running Windows 7.
When I shut my computer down it FREEZES up - BLUE SCREEN, with the revolving wheel.
I have to manually shut off my Mabook Pro by pressing the on button.
I read some blogs that this might be hardware issue….?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
    Thank You.

    Hi Sig,
Thanks for the reply. But I do not think this is a Parallel issue.
I have googled "New MacBook Freeze" and I have seen many issues about this "new" MacBook Pro Freezing.
It's not just a Parallel issue, bc. When I properly shut down Windows 7 and when I exit Parallels 6 - my FireFox Freezes, and when I shut down my MacBook, it freezes and does not shut down - it reverts to a Blue screen with the scrolling wheel.
I have updated My MacbookPro to the most recent updates, as well as FF and Parallel.
    Any suggestions?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.

  • 250 GB MBP HD full up with no user documents (75 GB "backups")! Parallels, Virtual Box or Mavericks?

    hi all,
i have a mid-2009 MBP and have moved ALL my user documents to my Mac Pro because the Hard Drive seems like it is full up. TechToolsPro keeps giving me a less than 15% available hard drive error. i am running Parallels with an install of Windows 7 and i recently downloaded Virtual Box to text it out. i have BOTH these softwares on my Mac Pro.
i am trying to run WhatSize and OmniDiskSweeper to figure out what is going on but i am seeing 75 GB of "Backups" for starters on the MBP and i am only seeing 0KB of backups on the Mac Pro.
since i have both Parallels and Virtual Box installed on the Mac Pro and since i only USE the Parallels on the Mac Pro (and only rarely use the Parallels on the MBP) i am at a total loss as to whether this is a Mavericks issue or a Parallels issue or a Virtual Box issue. i have tried to uninstall VB but so far i am not having any luck in getting this done.
    anyone have any ideas?

for some reason i am not finding a system preferences pane in the pulldown items
That's odd. One of the things TTP6 does when you install it is it self installs a preference pane. Though I don't know what you mean by a pulldown item.
When you open the System Preferences, there should be an icon for TechTool, like the one at the lower right shown here:
Click on that to bring up its feature settings. The second tab is the one that devours your disk space.
Uncheck all of the drives shown and then turn it off by clicking the radio button.
if i got into the Application Support directory in Library (i hold down the Option Key if i recall correctly to see this item listed in the Go pulldown in Finder)
Wrong Library folder. Holding down the Option key leads you to the one in your user account. You want the main Library folder at the root of the drive. It's the one shown next to Applications, System, Users, etc.

  • Cannot install Parallels 4.0

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and now Parallels 3.0 does not work. I've tried to install Parallels 4.0 to my MacBook Pro but during the install I get the following message: Conflicting Virtual Machines Shut down these running and suspended virtual machines: My Boot Camp
I don't have Boot Camp open and I've even "ejected" the Boot Camp icon from my desktop and still can't get Parallels to install - the same message keeps coming up. Any ideas what's wrong?

This is really a Parallels issue, however anyway try this.
Even for the Bootcamp partition Parallels creates a .pvm profile virtual machines file.
With a normal install these are stored in the Parallels folder found at
    ~/Home/Documents/Parallels.
WIthin this folder trash the .pvm file for your Bootcamp installation. (This is non destructive of the Bootcamp partition so no worries)
    Empty trash and reboot machine.
Now use the Unistall programme found in the Parallels 3 image file or on the disc.
All your VMs other than the trashed bootcamp image will be retained the the folder above.
Reboot (To be sure - not absolutely necessary however)
Launch Disk Utility and run repair permissions.
    Reboot.
Now install Parallels 4 from the downloaded .img file.
Follow instructions (may require you to enter activation key(s)
When its completes you will now have to recreate a new VM of your Bootcamp partition.

  • CS 5.5 on a Mac running Parallels to interface with a windows system.

    Hi
I have just upgraded to CS5.5 and amongst many other things I cannot seem to copy & paste into InDesign 5.5 from my Windows apps. Can anyone shed any light please?
    Cheers

Sounds like a Parallels issue. Why don't you ask on their website.

  • Shift + CMD + 3 (is weird when I am in Parallels)

    Hi All.
I am running Windows 7 on my macbookpro along with snow leapord. For some reason Shift + CMD + 3 (Mac Print Screen) is opening a new instance of some 3D modeling software that I use.
I checked the Macros and the Aliases for this software (the various keyboard shortcuts within this software) and I didn't see anything that would trigger this.
Anyone know if this is a 3D software issue or a Parallels issue or a Mac issue?
Also, would anyone mind pointing this new user to any documents that would explain how to manage my MBP keyboard differently (or the same) as my desktop keyboard? I see all the little icons on here and Expose and all this stuff is over my head at the moment...
    Thanks.

System Preferences->Keyboard->Keyboard Shortcuts, but AFAIK, it only affects Mac OS X and has no effect on Parallels. For that, you need to contact that developer. Ditto with windoze and associated apps.

  • How do I get an external mic to work?

    Hello,
After moving house I have just set up my mac mini with snow leopard OSX V.10.6.8. I run Parallels V.5 so that I can use Dragon Naturally Speaking V.10 for dictation. The microphone I use is a Jabra GN9530 that has a base station that connects to the mini via USB and the headset/microphone is wireless.
i have had this set up running successfully until now! I cant calibrate the mic because Dragon says it cant hear it??
    1. In the sound preferences I have selected the GN9350 as the device for sound input.
    2. The input volume is turned up.
Other than plug it in and turn the power on there shouldn't be any more to it? Would the mic and mini respond better if the mic was plugged into the high speed USB port?
Any ideas as to how I can get this going and get dictating?

Hmm, this is complicated by the fact that you're running Dragon in Parallels - it could be a Mac issue, Parallels issue, Windows issue or Dragon issue.  I would start at the beginning - is the Mac recognising the Jabra?  Can you use OS X to interact with the device?  If so, start moving down the chain - does Parallels pass the Jabra correctly through to Windows?  Yadda yadda yadda.
So many factors to consider.  Start eliminating factors until you narrow it down to the point in the chain where things break down, and if you still need advice, post back.
    Good luck,
    S.
EDIT: you say this is regarding a Mac mini, but you list a Mac Pro in your sig - it always helps if you provide as much device info as you can in your sig.

  • HT203296 No solution listed for 27" iMac running 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

    I have a 27" iMac, Mid 2011.
    Model Identifier iMac12,2

    I am running OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50)
    Boot ROM Version is IM121.0047.B1F
    SMC Version (system) is 1.72f2
I have installed Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac Build 7.0.15055 (Revision 740667; March 5, 2012)
I have created a virtual machine running Windows Server 2008 r2 Enterprise with SP1.
I am attempting to enable Hyper-V on this server.
When I attempt to do so, the Add Roles Wizard in Server Manager returns the following error:
    Hyper-V cannot be installed
The processor on this computer is not compatible with Hyper-V.  To install this role, the processor must have a supported version of hardware -assisted virtualization, and that feature must be turned on in the BIOS.
Parallels take on the issue is summed up on this thread:
    http://forum.parallels.com/thread3273.html
    Apple has the following information:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2744
I have just gotten off the phone with a senior tech support representative from Apple.  He is elevating my support request to an engineer, who hopefully will not tell me that this is a Parallels issue, and Apple doesn't provide support for Parallels.  I should receive a response in four business days.
    I figure it's one of three things...V
VT-X support is disabled on this machine. (Solution, Apple releases an EFI that enables it.)
VT-X support is enabled on this machine, but Parallels thinks it is not. (Solution, switch to Virtualbox?)
VT-X support is enabled on this machine, but the virtual machine is emuilating a processor that does not support it (Solution, read the fabulous manual)
I'd love to hear from anyone who may have a solution to this.  If I get more information, I will update this post.
P.S. - Why isn't there an option for Mac OS X v10.7.3 Lion in the "You Must Choose a Community" pulldown menu for this form?
I have run sysctl -a | grep machdep.cpu.features from terminal, and I see that my processor supports VT-X.  Yet, my virtual server says my processor doesn't support it.  Help?

No solution - but I have the same problem.  Using iMac 27 inch 3.1 Ghz Lion 10.7.3 Parallels Desktop 7. All software updates are current.
Also checked with run sysctl command and have VT-X supported.
Within the windows environment I have software that checks for periodic errors.  It now shows a bios error "Consider upgrading your bios".  This message does not show on the actual WIN PC.  Both environments are identical, as I just migrated and have not made any changes to either the PC or the VM.
    Hope the additional info helps.
