Parallel printer cable & hp inkjet 2200

I've just gotten a HP Pro with windows 7 & would like to keep my HP inkjet 2200.  I purchased a parallel printer cable & when first installed it worked fine.  Now when I print 1 page it cuts it up into about 3 pages & doesn't print the entire document.

Sorry that you are having a problem with the printer splitting up into 3 pages.
How long is your USB cable?
You can try to uninstall and re-install the software and drivers and see if that changes the outcome.
Perform a hard reset on the printer. Unplug the power cord from the back, and leave it out for 30 seconds.

I want to find a replace printer cord that still allows the parallel port into my HP printer and the other end to have a USB connector into my pc.    Does HP offer this configuration OR can I take my existing dual parallel printer cable and buy some sort of connector  that converts the pc parallel port to a USB port?

What printer model?  What operating system?  (Some printers like the Deskjet 900 series printers have a USB port that is generally not visible....)
USB-Parallel converters are available from a number of sources for <$20 US.  Make sure the cable you purchase is supported by your operating system.  The models listed here have been confirmed by users to work in Windows 7.

  • Trouble connecting LaserJet6p to Windows 7 64 bit computer using usb to parallel printer cable

The printer isn't responding at all--not even a test page. I've verified that the correct driver is installed and the computer does recognize the printer (even as the "default").
Any suggestions?   The computer is working with my other printer through blue-tooth,,,,
    Thanks!
    Paul

The USB-parallel cable needs a driver that supports Windows 7 x64 in addition to the driver the printer needs.  Additionally make sure the port settings are correct, usually the port will be something like USB001: or USB002: for the USB-parallel port. Some cables may provide a virtual LPT port such as LPT3:.  Check the documentation for your unit for details.
The posts here list models of USB-parallel ports folks here have had success with in Windows 7.

  • Using a parallel printer

Can a parallel printer be used by hooking it up with a usb to parallel cable?

    Yes, you can.
I have been using a USB to Parallel printer cable for many years now without a single problem.
I have used this cable with OS 8.5 through 9.2.2 and also OS 10.0 through 10.4.3.
Basically, as I have upgraded OS versions and computers, I kept using the cable.
I've used this cable with both a HP LaserJet 6LXi and my current favorite HP LaserJet 5MP.
Never had a single problem at all.
But, you do need to have a printer with Mac compatible drivers.
In the case of the LaserJet 5MP, it was originally compatible with the Mac. So, the Mac OS has continued to support it (even in 10.4.3). So, you just plug it in, and add it using the Printer Setup in the OS X "Applications" folder.
In the case of the LaserJet 6LXi, it was a PC specific printer (not marketed for the Mac). So, you need a 3rd-party driver solution. There are a number of solutions I have used in the past. But, the free GIMP print is a good solution for OS X. It adds support for many PC printers.
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
The great thing about these USB to Parallel adapters, is that they allow us to keep using our old faithful printers with our modern machines. I still haven't found a newer printer that has compared to my faithful LaserJet 5MP for my needs.
First, my 5 MP is already here. So, no need to purchase a new printer. Second, the toner is very cheap compared to the new printers. I can get toner and drum combo units for between $20 and $40 depending on the dealer / distributor (I haven't priced them recently, but am only on my second toner out of the bundle I purchased about 2 years ago).
My last time around, I got my hands on 3 refurbished toner cartridges for about $40 (total).
Definitely makes it hard to consider investing in a new printer. The price tag for a new Laser Printer is $150 to $400 (depending on model). Then the toner sets you back between $80 and $200 (depending on brand / printer).
If you have an existing Laser Printer, I would very highly recommend just getting a $20 USB to Parallel printer to make your connection. Works great.
But, if you don't have a Laser Printer, or you are planning on working with an Ink Jet, then I would agree with the others that you should just buy a new Ink Jet printer. The new Ink Jets cost only $25 to $40 depending on the model. My local Wal-Mart has some for $37.
But, pick carefully. Some of those $37 printers will cost you $60 to replace the ink ($30 for color and $30 for black). Not quite a bargain.
Try to find a printer that will provide you with the largest number of printed pages for the least amount of money (cost per page). For example, some $30 cartridges will only print 200 pages. Others might print 600 pages.
Average InkJet printers will range between 8 cents per page and 18 cents per page.
Most Laser printers will average between 2 cents per page and 3 cents per page (unless you buy a color laser, then you're up to between 10 cents and 18 cents per page).
So, do some research before you buy.
Nothing beats a good laser printer though for cost per page. Some Laser Printers still have a high cost per page. But, with mine and a good refurbished cartridge, I can print for less than a third of a cent per page (4500 pages per cartridge and 3 cartridges for $40). Not bad
Keep the cost of ownership in mind before you throw out an old printer for a new one.

  • Parallel printer to iMac or Time Capsule

We just traded in an old PC for a new iMac running Lion.  We still have an old HP laserjet 4L that has been a trouble free workhorse, and would like to keep it if possible.  It only has one output, a standard parallel printer cable.  Is there a way to connect it?  I have read some reviews of adapter cables from Belkin and Cables to Go, and they are definitely mixed on this topic; also none of them referred to Lion as the OS (most seemed to be Tiger or earlier).
We could connect either directly to the iMac or to our Time Capsule.
Note I am most definitely NOT any kind of networking expert -- so keep it simple, please!
    Thanks.

Is the HP printer connected to the Time Capsule by USB or Ethernet? If by USB, the Time Capsule's USB port does not support the "advanced" features (copying, scanning, & faxing) of multi-function printers ... regardless of the network client's operating system.
If connect by Ethernet, you will need the appropriate printer drivers from the manufacturer.

  • Will a USB-parallel adapter cable connect my MacBook to an OLD PC printer?

I have a very old laser printer of high quality and want to connect it (not wirelessly) to my MacBook. Does anyone know whether a USB-parallel adapter cable would do the job? Thanks,

Oh, a wrinkle: the printer has a cord coming out of it meant to plug (female) into a PC (male). So I'm wondering what to do. Any suggestions?

  • Mac Lion OS print driver for hp color laser jet 1600 & business inkjet 2200

I just brought a Macbook Air (13in) with the new OS Lion.  I however have a HP Color Laserjet 1600 and Business Inkjet 2200 that I love, but can't find a printer driver for either.  So, my questions are, does anyone know if:
    1)  there is going to be a mac lion os print driver for hp color laser jet 1600 & Business Inkjet 2200; or
    2)  is there another way to print to them (i.e., the 2200 uses HPA instead of PS and the 1600 uses PCL)?

Any suggestions re correct driver for windows 7 and HP 4600dn?

  • Windows 7 Connect Parallel Printer to laptop USB - Anyone successful?

I want to connect my Deskjet 722C parallel port printer to my new Windows 7 laptop USB port.    Has anyone successfully connected an old HP parallel port printer to a Windows 7 computer.  If so, what cable did you use and what did you have to do to make it work?  The other posts don't seem to be for Windows 7 and also seem to indicate problems in general.  Apparently it is not as simple as connecting a cable.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

There are two possible issues here.  First, if you are using the 64 bit version of Windows 7 you will need to apply the patch here.  There is a bug in the supplied driver that causes the spooler to crash in x64 versions of Vista or Windows 7, the patch corrects that issue.
Second, as mentioned above the USB-parallel converter cables can be problematic.  Make sure the model you have is supported in Windows 7.  The links here have posts where folks have models of converters successfully used with Windows 7.

  • Printer cable not compatible

Purchased new Dell XPS 8700 Tower and unable to plug in printer cable from 5650 printer.  Do I need a new adapter between cables and where can I purchase one?  Also which adapter # will I need if possible.
    This question was solved.

The Dell 8700 has USB ports, and your Deskjet 5650 has USB and parallel ports.  If you were previously using the parallel port on your printer you will need to purchase a standard A/B USB 2.0 cable.  The cables are standard, you do not need the special gold plated version.  I often pick up the cables up at the Dollar Store for $1, any computer shop should sell them.

  • Convert parallel printer to USB?

Newbie iMac 24" 2.16 GHz white mac owner, can I just purchase a parallel to USB cable, plug it in to my old parallel port only NEC Superscript 870 printer and then be able to use my old printer with my new {old} iMac?
    Thanks everyone
    Roger

While I completely understand everyone's suggestion that the original poster buy a modern, USB printer (rather than attempting to keep the parallel printer in use), there may be cases where this is not possible. I have recently become interested in getting a dot matrix printer with a parallel printer port to connect to a Mac.
Our small family business has been gradually replacing our Windows PCs with Macs (yeah!). An issue we will face when replacing one PC in particular is how to continue to print to a parallel port-based printer. We have state-required contracts on forms with two carbon copies. We feed these forms into our dot matrix printer to fill out the contracts because we need the printer to make an impression onto the carbon pages.
We only need to print text, not graphics or images. So, I believe the drivers included with OS X will suffice. Now, if anyone has any recommendations or suggestions on parallel-to-USB cables or other similar hardware, I'd be interested to hear them. (By the way, we don't need to share or network the dot matrix printer. It will be directly connected to only one Mac.) Thanks.

  • USB parallel printer adapter

I have a HP Pavilion notebook.  I bought a USB Parallel Printer Adapter to connect it to my two printers
    HP Deskjet 540  and
    Hp deskjet 820Cse, Professional series
but I cannot make the printers work.  Since the printers are old, HP is unable to help me.  Could anybody tell me how to make these printers work with my wireless HP Pavilion (laptop)?
    Thanks

Which HP laptop and what version of Windows? I know Windows XP had usb to parallel drivers included natively. Vista and Windows 7 are tending to move away from support for "legacy" ports like serial and parallel. What port are you trying to install the printer on? I am using a usb to parallel adapter to an older parallel port printer together with a wired printer server with one usb port and it works fine with XP, Windows 7 and Mac OS 10.6 computers on my home network. I actually set up the printer on each machine through the print server, which appears as a network device. The print server plugs into the router with an RJ-45 cable.

  • How to print on HP LaserJet 2200 over Ethernet?

    Hi,
I did an upgrade to Snow Leopard and would like to print on a HP LaserJet 2200 over Ethernet. OS X and the HP printer drivers are up to date now.
The printer has been cold reset and on the configuration print out there's the IP address 0.0.0.0
Now my question is how to get this printer to work with Snow Leopard over Ethernet? I did not find a tutorial how to assign an IP address to the printer first so I got stuck.
Could you give me a hint where I should start with the configuration first?

    OK, now the printer works
I reset the router and checked if DHPC is running.
I reset the printer (hold down the GO button, turn the printer on and continue to hold the GO button for five to ten seconds).
Checked at router that the printer is visible as network device.
At the router I assigned a fixed IP address to the printer.
At OS X System Preferences > Printer I added a new printer with "HP Jetdirect - Socket", the fixed IP address and the correct printer driver "HP LaserJet 2200".
Now the printer has been recognized well by the system (Tray 3, Duplex and printer RAM) and printing works.
    THANKS.
