Parallel updates on a user

Hello,
I'm facing a problem that some already faced (in the forum on sun.com, in 2006, http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5061281) but no definitive solution was provided...
A use case I have is to request roles for a user and for each requested role, I have potential approvals to gather.
If I allow to request multiple roles at the same time (which is the standard if using the default user form in the admin GUI):
- I have approvals sent to the different approvers (ie. adminA & adminB for role1, adminA & adminC for role2) : that's OK, that's what I want, adminA receives two workitems to approve
- I one of the approval is rejected, no matter which one (let's say adminB rejects assignment of role1), the whole request is rejected (even the assignment of role2!) and a new request is needed to assign role2 : that's not OK. role1 may be rejected and role2 approved
If I decide to modify the form to only allow one role to be requested at a time:
- I have approval sent to the approvers for the requested role
- Until the approval phase is over, I cannot launch a new request for the user. If I need to assign multiple roles, I have to wait between each role request. This would mean a user may have to wait for days before being able to have the needed access to resources!
How would you workaround this Sun IDM (sorry, Oracle Waveset!) design:
- Renaming the update task is not sufficient since the userview is checked out before the approval process is launched. Isn't it? Therefore, I cannot check out the view until it is checked-in after the approval is done
- modify the update user standard workflow (or another standard process somewhere) to differ the view checkout only once the approval is done. But I'm not sure I can replace it with a getView to compute updates and approvals so easily... I fear side-effects...
Do you have any (good) idea regarding this issue? I'm sure I'm not the only one facing this currently...

Edit: I made a wrong statement about why renaming is not OK:
If I try to rename the task adding a timestamp for instance to make the name uniqueif I launch a new request for the user, things will not be OK:
-- say the first request is approved first => user is updated according to first request. When second request is approved, the role assigned during the first reqeust will be un-assigned (the user view generated at the time of the second reqeust did not include the first role assignement yet...
-- say the second request is arrpoved first => same kind of effect .

no this does not solve directly my problem. I cannot use standard "update user" with "standard approvals" because "update user" takes a view as an entry (and if you provide only updates, it calculates a view at the beginning). If you need several parallel role requests, the standard "update user" prevents you from that (by saying an aupdate task already exists and if you rename the first one, the latest one being approved will overwrite previous updates.
What I need is:
- ask the requester for the changes he wants
- forward this information to my custom approvers
- upon approval, and only then, checkout the current view (so not the one at the time of the request), apply the requested change, launch the standard "update user" process without further approval.
This way, I can launch several requests in parallel having independant approval processes and having only approved changes applied to the user without the fear of discarding previous assignments.
@madhatter: I may use the split join mecanism to do parallel approval on single requests (I have two type of approvals for a single role). I'm also thinking building a custom approval object to pass to the Approval Evaluator process.

I am having the same problem. I even changed my password and updated all of my security information. Now it just gives me an error and retry message, which of course also does not work. Went to support and was going to open a chat (seemed the simpler option) and received a message that my support has expired for this serial number unless I want to pay $29.00. So I chose the option to call later, which was the exact time suck I was trying to avoid. Why wouldn't the new operating system also update the apps that were already part of my old platform?

Need to automatically display update date and user in update form field

Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help me with this... I am using dreamweaver cs4 and php/mysql. I have a database table that will be updated by 1-5 different people at random times. I have everything set up and working, as far as the update function, delete function, add new, etc. In my update form the last two fields are Last Updated and Last Updated By. There are fields in the table called 'last_updated' (formatted in PHPmyadmin as timestamp) and 'last_updated_by'. But how do I get them to update on their own? Right now it is showing the first entry into the field which I did in the PHPmyadmin table, but it is not updating automatically. It would be a nice field to have so that we know who has worked on the table and when it was last updated, without the user manually typing that in, which I am sure they would forget to do. By the way, users will login to this with a username and password before editing the records.
This is the code for the last row in the update form with those two fields. It is pulling the fields from the database table, but they do not update automatically...

Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation error while updating picture in user Profile

Hi,
I am working on updating picture of user profile in sharepoint 2013.
I am getting error "exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" while creating Thumbnail at the below line.
"file = (SPFile)mi_CreateThumbnail.Invoke(null, new object[] { original, idealWidth, idealHeight, folder, fileName, null });"
I have added SPUtility.ValidateFormDigest() before calling this method. but no luck.

According to your post, my understanding is that you want to update picture in user Profile.
If we are giving an option to change the Profile picture in our custom component, we need to create 3 different files and update the reference in User Profile property.
To create Thumbnail, we can use the code as below:

Form based on a view - FRM-40654: Record has been updated by another user.

Hi All,
I am hoping that somebody can help me with this problem that is occurring only when I try an update a record in forms.
I have a block based on a join-view, I can insert no problems, but I can only update certain records within the block. If I come across a second record that is similar to the first except for primary key and a couple of other values and try and update that record forms gives me the following message FRM-40654: Record has been updated by another user. Re-query to see change.
The first record I have no problems in updating and I have followed a number of suggestions to get this to work, like setting the key-mode of the block to updateable/non-updateable and setting the primary key to 'yes' for some of the database items. I have also created procedures within the database that are called by triggers on-insert, on-update etc.
If anybody has any ideas how I can solve this I would be happy to hear your suggestions.

1) In the block properties change the Key Mode property of the block to be Non-Updatable Primary Key
2) Mark one or more columns as Primary Key in the item Property Palette - in this instance you would set the property for Empno.
Enforce Primary Key = no
Key Mode = Unique
Update Changed Columns Only = Yes
I found a bug entry that is supposed to be fixed in Patch 9 of Forms 6i (assuming you are running 6i). So if you could try with a more recent Patch set (e.g. 14) then probably the problem will go away.

User profile service not updating 'Title' in user information list

Hi,
In our SharePoint farm, following two user profile sync timer jobs are successfully running but not updating the 'Title' in the hidden user information list.
User Profile to SharePoint Full Synchronization
User Profile to SharePoint Quick Synchronization.
Can someone point me to the right direction? Please note that I don't want to use powershell script shown here to update the 'Title' in the user information list -

Hi,
There are two jobs, User Profile to SharePoint Quick Sync and User Profile to SharePoint Full Sync, that synchronize the User Profile database information with the user information list. Sometimes this stops working (properly) and in that case
you need to run:
Stsadm.exe –o sync –listolddatabases 0
Stsadm.exe –o sync –deleteolddatabases 0
The first command will display all the databases and when they have been sync’d last.
The second command will delete the records corresponding to those databases (it doesn't delete databases/end user data).
Anyways, running this will basically tell the timer jobs that they have never sync’d and force them to carry on as if it’s the first time.
Go to Central Admin and fire off the User Profile to SharePoint Full Synchronization
job.

How pricing condition be auto updated if the user changes price in PO ?

Hi Maruthi,
As far as I know, POs (like many other documents in SAP) are "snapshots" of data as it was at the time of the document creation. This snapshot has no direct link to master data, so it will not change unless you go to the document and manually change/refresh whatever data you need updated.
Even if there were a way to link your PO to master data to auto-update I don't see how any change on a PO could go backwards and change master data. Pricing works the other way around - the PO takes the price from the condition records, not the records from the PO.

How do I get a Timer to update in a user dialog box

I am trying to display timer that would continuously update on a user dialog box (It would start when a button was clicked). What would be the best way to do this?

I'm sorry, I didn't test that idea. Now that I have, I see that the textbox only updates after the ButtonClick callback as completed, so instead of seeing the textbox count up from 1 to 10 in my code, I only see it show 10 after 10 seconds have passed. Before that it does look like DIAdem is hung, but it wasn't in my case.
OK, so that means you need to pop up a new progress dialog. You could create a second dialog defined in that same *.SUD file or create a new *.SUD file with a progress indicator on it, or you could use DIAdem's native non-modal dialog with MsgBoxDisp(). I did test this code

"FRM:40654 Record has been updated by another user" - Error in POST-QUERY

I'm using Forms version 6.0.8.26.0
In one of the forms, its data block is based on a view.
In POST-QUERY trigger, I try to change the value for a database item. This operation results in following error:
"FRM-40654: Record has been updated by another user. Re-query to see change."
After this message the value of the item is automatically being set back to what was queried from the DB.
I tried setting the DML Returning Value to 'Yes'. It doesn't help :(

there are 3 fields in a multiple record block.
field 1 will have the total amount.in field 2 i user can enter the percentage.and field 3 will be populated
as field 1 * field 2 /100. if user changes field 3 it back update the field 2 as field3 * 100/field 1.
there is a POST in when-new-record-instance.
the above error comes when i navigate to second record
and try to come bk and change the values in 1st record.

Unix command to stop Software updates for all users except admins?

I want to stop App Store and other software updates for all user accounts. Administrator accounts should still be able to do Software Updates.
Is there a terminal command that can do that i can push out through ARD?

Managed preferences are the best bet. You could use Profile Manager or use the mcx command from the command line. I'd strongly suggest browsing over this before delving into MCX though...

Error in Multi Record Form. Record has been updated by another User?

I ma developing Form with 3 blocks (Control Block, Database Block, Button Block). In the Button Block i am updating one Row by calling Program Units as shown below
Select Print Id into Flag From <Table Name> Where <Conditions> For Update of <Column Name>. after calling this , i created another Program Unit as
Update <Table Name>

I assume that the table in your update statement is the same table as the one you based your block on.
You are manually updating the table, and Forms see this as an update "by another user" (even though it's you). To see the changes you made in your update statement, you have to re-query.
So, don't update yourself, let Forms do it. If you base a block on a table, everything is done for you by Forms.

As A Free Update For All Users..... if this is TRUE then how Do I get it. My CS is HORRIBLE visually. Does ANYONE know anything encouraging about this issue with Adobe CS and Retina Display???

What's updated in the User Guide?

Does anyone know what was specifically updated in the User Guide?
(Is there a PDF comparison tool? I do have the original Guide saved on my desktop.)
