Parameter select to choose data to populate form

I am using Acrobat Pro 8 and Livecycle Designer tocreate a form for someone else to distribute. I want the people distributing the form to be able to enter a number (ID) in a parameter and then the form is autopopulated. Is this possible? It probably is but i am new to creating forms and have not been able to find something on the forums to help. I have been able connect to the data correctly to load the data, however i had to put the ID in a sql query i used to pull in the data. The people distributing the report don't have the software or skills to do this, that is why i just want a parameter created for them.

A business case on this:
A functionality in the Add-on does the same ting, but need to do something after selection. In Incoming payments we have the option to set a predefined GL-account when you open the payment means and after selection we simulate the CTRL+B in order to copy the full amount. This works great in SBO prior to SBO2007, but with the new functionality we cant rely on I direct choice, so if you enter 1000 as the GL Account but also have an account called 10000, the add-on will fail since an involuntary user-action is presented.
In general this ruins a lot of SDK-Add-ons that make use of the way you can use the UI-API as a macro-tool to enter data which is a huge regression for the work we can do.

How can I enforce automatic spell checking for selected fields of data entered by form users?

I'd like to be able to enforce spell checking of selected fields in the forms that I've created using LiveCycle Designer 8.2 at run time, as opposed to design time. I understand the version LCD 8 has a nifty new spell checker for form designers. But I want to spell check the data entered by users using Acrobat Reader. And I want to enforce the spell checking automatically on selected fields only.
Presently it seems that users filling in my forms, must know how to manually right-click on each field and select "Spell Check" from the resulting dialog box in order to check for spelling errors in the data the user has entered in the form.
I would like to discover a way to enforce spell checking in selected fields, just as I am able to do in forms created using Acrobat Pro. In Acrobat Pro, I can set a property for each field to require spell checking. but that feature seems to be missing in Livecycle Designer.
I've check the Object model for XFA forms hoping that I might find a method I can call with a Javascript, to check spelling based on an event such as onBlur. But I haven't found a spell check method.
Am I missing something simple? Is there a way to set each field to be spell checked when a user is filling in the form using the free Acrobat Reader?
Our users are not sophisticated and requiring them to spell check each field separately just won't cut it...
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi David,
Two things...
At design time set the locale of the form to one that Acrobat spell checks. For example English (US) and English (UK) locales have spell checkers; however English (Ireland) does not. Check the Warnings tab to see if spell checking is supported for your locale.
If your form locale supports spell checking then you can go to the button script below.
If you form locale does NOT support spell checking then Stephanie has a great work around to force spell checking (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2233945#2233945).
Bring a regular button onto the form and in the click event have the following:
app.execMenuItem("Spelling:Check Spelling");
Which will open the spell checker for all fields. Thanks to Paul for extracting all of the accessible menu items (http://forums.adobe.com/message/1912914#1912914).

I know someone has to be doing this but I haven't found them

Single Date Parameter, but using a date range for selection

I'm fairly new to Crystal Reports, so be gentle with me. I have a report that has 4 parameters. The report asks for data for a specific month, the YTD data to the end of the selected month, and the same data from the previous year. It seems there should be a way to enter a single parameter (ie., 2007-4-1), and off that date select all the data for the month, the current year to the end of that month, and then the data from the previous year for the same period. I know this will be a formula field needed to select the data, but not sure how to get there from here. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

It should be possible for you to create just one parameter to have the user input a single date and then create formulae to create the begin and end dates for the month, YTD and PYTD. You can then use these formulae for record selection criteria.
For example, if the user inputs a date of 2007-04-01 for the single parameter then create formulae such as:

endmonth := cdLastDayOfMonth ({?My Parameter});
To use the cdlastdayofmonth function, In the formula workshop window, click on "Repository Custom Functions" then under CRYSTAL and DATE right click on cdlastdayofmonth and click on ADD TO REPORT. Once that is done, then create the above "endmonth" formula. You should see this new function in your formula workshop window in the FUNCTIONS window under CUSTOM FUNCTIONS.

This is one way of doing it, perhaps others might pitch in with a more efficient way.

Select List with Submit - Branch Error - form data does not save

I am a new APEX user so please excuse my ignorance. I have created a simple application in which a primary data entry form branches either to a detail form (one to many on the parent ID) or a master tabular report used for navigation. These branches work fine. Then I tried to get a little fancy with a conditionally displayed element based on the value the user selects in a select list on the main form(P9_REPORT_TYPE). I converted the select list to a select list with submit and created a new branch (on submit - after processing) to the current page (Page 9) to avoid the "no branch found" error. To avoid the branch being unconditional, I tried to use the 'Request = Expression1' condition with the Expression 1 field set to P9_REPORT_TYPE. The behavior I get is that the page seems to submit but the data on the form is not saved -- even the new value selected in P9_REPORT_TYPE reverts to the old value. I simply need the page data to submit so that the conditionally displayed element will take effect (which it does if you use one of the other button-based branches and then return to the form). Do I have the syntax wrong? It seems like this should be straightforward but I've tried a number of options including using a PL/SQL condition V('REQUEST')='P9_REPORT_TYPE' with no success. I'm guessing that the value of Request is getting cleared before it has a chance to trigger the branch? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly so! Thanks Scott for setting me straight. For the benefit of other readers, the value in the Source Used column had been set to "Always, replacing any existing value in session state" and should have been set to "Only when current value in session state is null".

We have an application that I would like to have in Formscentral. That application is also in a larger PDF file that once filled in populates all the other forms below it (lease, credit check form, ect). If the Application on Formscentral keep the same field names as the pdf can I pull the data from formscentral and sill populate the old application pdf so that all the forms below it will be also populated.

Lookup data row to populate form.

I have successfully created a SQL data connection. I am able to setup the basic buttons (like First, Next, Last, Add, etc) for moving through records. I can see the SQL data records in the fields I have bound to the data in the form.
What I want to be able to do is have 2 fields (username and password for example) in the form that can be used to find and select a specific row of data from the SQL database. I don't want users to be able to see and step through all these records from everyone who has ever submitted a row of data via the pdf form. I want them to only be able to see and modify their row of data. I figure the easiest way to do this is have the username/password on that same row of data and have a select statement based on those username and password fields that the user can enter. So that if username and password entered = username and password in a specific row then display that row of data in the form. This should be simple enough to do but I'm not finding the correct way to script a search/lookup button for this task.

I have done this in an older version and I think the technique will still work in the current version. Firstly when you create your DataConnection you must set it so that it has a delayed open. There is a check box on the last screen of the data connection wizard that allows you to set this. Once this is done it will allow you to control how and when you want the data connection to happen.
Now we have to programmatically change the data base connection. Everything his held in the sourceSet object. So follow these steps to change the connection parameters:
1. First lets change the connection to accept a sql command instead of connecting and getting all records:
xfa.sourceSet.DataConnection.nodes.item(1).query.setAttribute("text", "commandType");
2. Now lets set the SQL command we want to execute:
xfa.sourceSet.DataConnection.nodes.item(1).query.select.nodes.item(0).value="Select * from Parts Where PART_NO = " + TextField1.rawValue;
3. Now we are ready to open the connection:
xfa.sourceSet.DataConnection.open()
Note that I named my connection DataConnection. This will be dependant upon what you called your data connection. Also you would put this code on the exit of the field where you enter in your userid. I woudl suggest putting on a button for testing and when you are happy with how ot works move it to the exit event of the field (then delete the button)

Problem with transfering unicode form data in MULTIPART/FORM-DATA

HI experts,
I have this web based multilingual application. Page 1(form6.jsp) is basic registeration form with 5 fields and one image upload to the server. Page 2(verify.jsp) is another jsp page for verification of UTF data entered in page 1.
page 2 (verify.jsp) also uses a bean called (verify.java) for picking up values. page 3(insertEntry.jsp) is the page for inserting that data into the Database and uses a bean called (logicbean.java).
Now, the problem im facing here is that if i use multipart/form-data, the unicode text filled in page1 is shown as garbage when its is transfered to page2 and displayed on page2. It is all gibberish. But if i do not use multipart/form-data, the unicode text transfered from page1 to page2 is displayed perfectly on page2.Im using devenagari(UTF) language for filling in details.

I have narrowed down the problem to the point where i understand that the "request.getParameter()" function for multipart is not able to understand or read UTF data properly. The out.println prints garbage from this function on the console. im using WAS

How to setup Multiple report layouts based on parameter selection

I'm trying to create a report that will be based on the parameter values a user select. There will be 3 different layouts for the report.
Customer
Salesperson
Category
If the user selects one of the three a different layout will be displayed.
This is probably a simple solution but my Reports 6i skills are a little rusty.
Your advise would be appreciated.

Ok so you have a parameter form, and some parameters. In the data model, you can put your 3 queries. In the layout, as Ino said, put all 3 frames that you could possibly have.
The way I would use to choose which query to use is below. Others may have other methods, but I like this.
Ok lets say you have query A,B,C for simplicity. You have one parameter (P_PARAM1) on the form, and the user can choose A,B or C. Based on the parameter, you choose which query to use.
In query A, you would add this line to the where statement:
and :P_PARAM1 = 'A' You add the same lines to queries B and C, but change the letter obviously. So if the user enters A, it will only run query A because that was the parameter selected.
Now for the layout, click on the frame that corresponds with group/query A. You would click F11 or launch the PL/SQL editor, and add the following format trigger (or something similar).

How can I pass the data from a form in workflow to z table?

Thanks for your answer, I tried the solution 2, I create "Submit" button, and ser the mapping scope to be "All data rows", it only works when I select at least one row, otherwise the data would not be passed.
Another question is I have serveral imported table parameter, for each table I have one "submit" event, I want these tables to be submitted at the same time, but if I click the submit button in one table toolbar, I can only submit the table data which has a submit button clicked, for other tables, the data is not passed, how can I achieve it?

I created the form and a customer filled it out and returned it to me using the submit button via email. Is there a way to take the xml data and populate an excel spreadsheet appropriately?

Are you looking to automate this?
You can bring up the form in Acrobat and go file->Form Data -> Create Spreadsheet from data files. You would then select all the files (xml) to put in the spreadsheet.

Dynamic parameter selection from infoview not storing the sql password

We are having the problem of dynamic parameter selection from infoview not storing the sql password as it does for the actual report. We are using Crystal Reports XI Release 2 version 11.5.3.438 (Not sure of SP level, asked in separate thread).
To be more specific.
We have created a report that dynamically populates the parameters of the report by pulling the records from the Informix sql database and allowing selection from there.
In the Central Management Console for the report object we have set as follows:
Process - Database:
Use original database logon information from the report - the sql username and pw etc
Use same database logon as when report is run
Process - Parameters
In selecting a default selection there is the option to put in the sql password, however, this does not stick and clears after update.
As such the end result is that every time this report is run from infoview and a user chooses a parameter (there are 5), crystal goes through some timeout for about a minute or so and then requests the sql password, if a user then selects the next parameter, the same timeout and password dialog appears.
We need the crystal report to handle to the sql password for fetching the parameters as well as for the database section of running the report, however, the parameters insists on the end user always putting the password in.
This is 100% replicatable on our system.
Any way that we can fix this?
Will an update fix this issue? If so could you please advise which one?

Cannot see data or enter data in pdf forms

I am an elementary school teacher, and use an application to maintain student information. I am able to navigate thru the app to select various student data, but when I click to display a students information, a blank PDF form is displayed. Borders and grids display, but no data is displayed, and I cannot enter any data. The IT help desk suggested uninstalling the old Adobe Reader, and replacing with 9.4.1, but this did not help.

It's really hard to say what's going on without knowing more about the system. It's possible that the program is generating an FDF (Forms Data Format) file and launches it, causing the PDF to load and populate with the data in the FDF. Folks have reported that recent changes to Reader have broken this type of thing. So you may need to go back to an even earlier version, such as 9.2 or 9.3, or somehow contact the developers of the application for help.

I have designed a form with approximately 28 user defined date fields. I want the user to be able put in the first date range and then seautomaticaly fill in the other dates sequencially.
ie,.... the user puts in 08/01/2007 then the following date field populates with 08/02/2007, then 08/03/2007 and so on....
