Parameters prompts& default

Hello all,
Have 2 questions regarding parameter fields:
(1) Regarding static parameter: Is it possible to import field values directly from the DB?
    After I select <Action>-->"Append all DB values" nothing is added to value field?
(2) I have applied following condition in the query command
BR.STATUS_NAME in {?P_BR_STATUS}
. The parameter {?P_BR_STATUS} was defined as static and allow custom values.
Now I would like to insert a default value for this parameter-which coincides with omitting the above condition. Unfortunately the following formula
if(not HasValue({?P_BR_STATUS})) then
{?P_BR_STATUS}={Command.STATUS_NAME}
doesn't work
thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply.

In regards to your second question I create the parameter with an * as the default selection and then a formula referencing the parameter for my record selection.

Your solution works fine on report level. However I would like to apply the same on SQL
level, to improve performance. So my query in the command clause contains the
following condition
WHERE BR.STATUS_NAME in {?P_BR_STATUS}
Now my default value would be when {?P_BR_STATUS} is null then I would like to
ommit this condition. Is it possible to do so?
many thanks,

  • How to handle the OK button of the parameters prompt of a crystal report

    Hi,
    how to handle the OK button of the parameters prompt of a crystal report in vba.NET?
    I want to use the parameter prompt from the crystal report itself and I want to know when the report is ready. I need to export programatically by sending email to a list of employees after the parameters has been set. The emails I send depends on the results of the report.
    Im using a CrystalReportViewer control  in VS2010 and Crystal Report for VS2010 v13.0.1.220.

    Right. But the parameter screen is driven by the viewer. Unless you create your own parameter screen and pass the parameters to the report via code.
    Another thing I am not sure about:
    "Then by code I want to read all the employees id from the report and send email to them with specified pages of the report. (1 page per employee)"
    How do you plan on reading the employee ID from the report? I am not aware of any API that will read a value in a report so that you can then decide what page to send to whom.
    I think you're approaching this kinda backwards. A question to ask is; can you do what you are trying to do in code in the CR designer? If not, using APIs will not work either. I suspect your approach should be a report that uses an employee filter. Run the report for employee x, get the report populated with the data for that employee and email it. Repeat for employee x1, employee x2, etc.

  • SSRS 2008 R2 Report parameters have default values and report not to auto run

    Hi, I am using SSRS 2008 R2 one of my requirements for a Report is all the parameters have default value and I do not want this report to auto run when users open this report. I can create a dummy hidden parameter to break the auto run for this
    report. But I am looking for solutions other than that.
    Thanks in advance..........
    Ione

    Hi lone,
    According to your description, you have a report with parameters. Now you want you report not to run automatically with your parameters default values. Right?
    In Reporting Service, if you have parameters with default values in your report, your report will always auto run with these default values. We can say these default values are used for report running initially. So for your requirement, if you really need
    to see your default value before the report running, the best workaround is set one more parameter to break the auto run like you have done. If you just want your report not to auto run, your can achieve it by removing those default values.

  • Multi select prompt defaulting to only 256 values

    Hello All,
    The requirement we have is to have the prompt defaulted it to be picking all the values in the prompt. The prompt has about 700 values. But it's only defaulting to 256 values. Is there a way to increase this. I am on obiee 11.1.1.6.10.
    I have tried using the <MaxDropDownValues>256</MaxDropDownValues> in instanceconfig.xml. but that's off now use. Is there a seperate parameter that would control the values in multi select prompt?
    Kindly help out.

  • Unable to set presentation variable to prompt default.

    i am tying to apply prompt default value as some presentation variable.
    as i want to set depending on the value selected by Same prompt.please help me.
    or else help me to write sql statement with presentation variable(of other prompt) to set default.

    Okay, I just tried something that works, but it's a workaround that may or may not work for you depending on the number of values in the column.
    Anyway, try this:
    1) Create your first prompt and save it to a presentation variable (PV), say prompt1
    2) Use the same column and create another dashboard prompt. In this one however, change the "Show" to "SQL Results."
    3) Now after the SQL in the window, add WHERE tablename.columnname IN ('@{prompt1}', 'value1','value2', etc...)
    Here is the drawback, you have to list the values explicitly (unless someone knows a better way), but this will default the second prompt to the first prompt's selected value while allowing the user the choices of the rest of the column.
    Not the prettiest solution, but it does work...

  • Using Presentation variables in Prompt Default using SQL Results.

    I have set a presentation variable in a prompt(say 1st prompt). In the 2nd prompt, using default option, when I try to reference this variable in SQL Results, I get this error.
    State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 27002] Near <@>: Syntax error [nQSError: 26012] . (HY000)
    The syntax used for SQL is:
    SELECT <tab>.<col1> FROM <subject area> WHERE <tab>.<col2> = @{variables.myvar}
    Note: However the same SQL works fine in SHOW option.
    Thanks in advance..

    - OK. In the second prompt, instead of setting Default to SQL Results, set it to Specific Value.
    - Then insert '{pres_var}' in the window. I got it to work this way.
    - It supplied the PV as the default in the second prompt after hitting "Go" on the first prompt.
    Hi, thanks for your suggestion but I don't need to have the value of the presentation variable itself as the prompt default. The variable is a filter for a specific SQL clause and the default is the result of this SQL.

  • Set date Parameters to Default to Current Quarter

    I have 2 date parameters in my report. I would like these parameters to be defaulted to the 1st day of the current quarter and the last day of the current quarter. I need these to be dafaulted because the report is going to be scheduled through BusinessObjects InfoView. I need the flexabilty to allow users to run the report on any date they want, but it needs to default so the scheduling works as expected. Can this be done and if so any assistance would be grateful. Thank you.

    Thomas,
    although you can't set a prompt / parameter to default like this, you can set a record selection to do this...here's how...
    1) in your StartDate and your EndDate parameters set a default value of 1888,08,08
    2) create a new formula called Start with syntax like
    if {?startdate} = date(1888,08,08)
    then
    if month(currentdate) in [1,2,3] then date(year(currentdate),01,01) else
    if month(currentdate) in [4,5,6] then date(year(currentdate),04,01) else
    if month(currentdate) in [7,8,9] then date(year(currentdate),07,01) else
    if month(currentdate) in [10,11,12] then date(year(currentdate),10,01)
    else {?startdate};
    3) create a new formula called End with syntax like
    if {?enddate} = date(1888,08,08)
    then
    if month(currentdate) in [1,2,3] then date(year(currentdate),03,31) else
    if month(currentdate) in [4,5,6] then date(year(currentdate),06,30) else
    if month(currentdate) in [7,8,9] then date(year(currentdate),09,30) else
    if month(currentdate) in [10,11,12] then date(year(currentdate),12,31)
    else {?enddate};
    4) change your record selection formula to something like
    {table.datefield} in {@start} to {@end}
    now if the end user doesn't actually put in custom dates, the record filter will default to the current quarter. if they use custom dates, the those dates will be used.
    of course you will have to edit the above syntax to your parameter names and datefield name. this method will also pass the filter to the database to increase performance.
    cheers,

  • Parameters prompting while opening webpage

    i have created a crystal report in Crystal Reports 2008, and embedded this into a webpage using visual studio 2008. when i open the web page, it prompts for the parameters(start and end dates), but, by default it shows current date and time. i want this to show whatever date but time must be 12:00:00 or 00:00:00 by default. please help.

    This is more of a CR design query. Post your query to the [Crystal Reports Design|SAP Crystal Reports;. Once the report is working there as you want, see what it does in the app.

  • A Date prompt defaulting the data in Report based on selection

    Gurus,
    I have a requirement , where i have a (in between) date prompt set in the dashboard current defulting to Start Month date and End Month date of current month.
    What the user want is based on the selection using a drop down in dashboard which has got values Last Day, Last week, Last Month , the default values in Date filter should change in dashboard.
    For Eg. If the user select Last Week, the in between date filter show the default date value as Last Week Mon and Last Sun, and should filter out the report based on that.
    Any idea's are welcome....
    Thanks & Regards
    -Saurabh

    Try to see if you can get user to agree on something easier.
    Here are the steps to achieve what you want.
    1. Create a prompt for 1 day, 2 week, and 3 month
    2. Create three separate reports based on above selection, which has page prompt for day/week/month respectively.
    3. Create GN based on step in 1 and then let UI change between three reports you created in step 2
    I hope this helps,
    Best luck

  • "Report Parameters" - only default showing / translation

    Hi,
    I did a BI Publisher with the "Analyzer for Excel" and I have 2 issues.
    1. I'm calling the report from an ApEx application with the following URL:
    .../R_Rapport_analyse_E.xdo?_xpf=&_xpt=1&Calendrier=130001&No_demande=5
    The data showed under "Report Data" are ok, but not the ones under "Report Parameters" (Calendrier and No_demande). The default ones are displayed.
    2. Is there a way to translate "Report Parameters" and "Report Data". I've tried to change them and save the template, but it's not working.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Cascading Parameters prompting twice when scheduling report on CMC

    Hi all,
    I am having some difficulty with the Central Management Console (CMC) when scheduling a report I created.
    The report contains one sub-report with a stored procedure to generate the data. This stored procedure has 5 parameters including region and city. In the main report I implemented cascading parameters for region and city and passed their values to the parameters of the stored procedure for the sub-report. All of this works fine within Crystal Reports when I run the report and even when I use the "View" option in CMC. However when I use the "Schedule" option in CMC to schedule the report and I am setting the parameters for the report, there is some odd behavior. The first parameter shows two values, one for region and one for city (this is fine). The next parameter is a string variable. When I try to set this parameter, I am prompted again with the cascading parameters for the region and city. This messes up all the parameters and if I continue to set the other parameters, I am prompted to give a value for the previous parameter.
    Why am I being prompted twice to enter a value for the cascading parameters? How can I fix this?
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    P.S. I thought about using the cascading parameters as filters in the Crystal Report itself but this causes the report to be slow as a lot of data is brought back from the stored procedure before filtering.
    P.P.S. I am using Crystal Reports 2008

  • Multi-Select Prompt default prompt should display 'All Choices'

    If a multi-select prompt doesn't have a value, it shows as blank, which
    technically means "%" ie. all values. Is it possible to display the text 'All Choices' so that users understand that the reports are based on all values of that blank prompt field.
    Please suggest,
    Thanks.

    If we enter the text 'All Choices' as the default to in the prompt then this value is checked against the other values for this column in the table. Eg: - If we want Name to be the multi-select prompt. There is no match for 'All Choices' in the database table and the report does not return any rows. We need a functionality similar to the one available for drop-down list control. For drop-down control OBIEE by default offers the option 'All Choices' which in the query is used as %. In drop down we can only select one name at a time or All. The user needs to have the flexibility to either select multiple names or select an option All Choices which will return all results.
    Any suggestions on this.
    Thanks.

  • Multi Select Prompt DEFAULT VALUE

    Hi, i have following problem:
    I have two multiselect prompt Country with all Countries and Day with values from 1 to 31. When i load dashboard page, the first and second prompt are empty. First and second prompt have as default value "Report Default". But, when i load the page, the real value of first prompt is ALL Values, in fact report shows all Countries, indeed the second prompt has as default value 1. In fact i see day 1 for all countries. Because two prompts have the different behaviour? How can i set as default value of the second prompt All Choices as the first?
    Thanks
    Giancarlo

    how did you resolve it..?

    Hi,
    If you are using the same presentation column (same TableName.ColumnName) in your analysis and in the prompt, then the values would be passed when you click on the link. If thats not the case, you can have a look at the below post:

  • Show parameters by default

    Hello,
    I have a report3 that takes parameters from Report 2. The issue is when I get to the report 3, the parameters are hidden by default. I have to click on the small arrow to view the parameters and change it. How do I get the parameters to show up on screen
    by default? Following are the images for the reference:

    Hi Amol_SCI,
    On my test, I can reproduce the same issue. In SSRS ReportServer web services, it has “rc:Parameters” parameter to control the rendering of the parameter viewer control area. We can setting the parameter with ON or Collapsed value to control it visibility.
    In your case, reports is taken parameter values from report2. The default value of parameter “rc:Parameters” is Collapsed. Based on my test, we cannot configure it with On value. In order to work around the issue, we can configure it with “Go to URL” action.
    Please refer to the following expression:
    =”http://[ServerName]/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?%2f[FolderName]%2f[ReportName]&rs:Command=Render&[Parameter3]=” & Parameters!Parameter2.Value
