and i need create 16 partitions on it, but i can create only 7 partitions:
* partitions
LD/LV ID-Partition Size
ld0-00 68EB1906-00 14.00GB
ld0-01 68EB1906-01 14.00GB

any idea?....thanks

If you are using lun mapping to create your partitions, (done by using telnet to the array and then selecting "View and Edit Host Luns") you have to tell the array the maximum numbers of luns you can create. Some systems will only let you create one by default and you can't make any changes to the size of the lun you are trying to present to your host. There is an option when you telnet to the box in the controller area for the maximum number of luns you can create. Luns in this case are partitions.
If you are not trying to partition your logical drive by using lun mapping, I don't know what your problem is.

  • Installing arch on extended partition/logical drive

hi there. i am a newbie to linux and about to install arch as my first linux installation.
i am using vaio AR laptop already running xp and would like to keep it and have double boot without reinstalling xp.
have 200gb hdd with recovery primary partition, system primary partition (where xp installed) and extended partition with one logical drive (D: ) of 100gb.
i was considering deleting the logical drive (and the extended partition if necessary), which if i understand correctly should give me 100gb of unallocated space.
i would then like to install arch on the 100gb of unallocated space.
i would like to know if the way i am planning to go about it is possible, and whether i can install arch completely on one extended partition devided into logical drives.
any comments or sugestions would be much appreciated...

I believe that is correct.  Grub has to have a reference to the md0 raid for booting.
    Please see
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=79306
This solution to the boot problem with md0 should be helpful for your case since grub must be modified to accomodate the raid.
I am not sure the data in your raid0 is appropo for your use in booting archlinux, however.  If I understand correctly, it is windows related data and not applicable to linux.
If your raid0 is partitioned, it would be possible to establish a boot for each system using grub partition references differing for linux and windows systems.
Thus, you would have grub entries complete for linux and another set complete for windows.
I think AFAICT windows has to be first in the usual dual booting but am not an expert on that, not having used dual boot.  It may be somewhat different when using raid for booting dual systems.
I suggest you read the wiki on dual boots.
Perhaps you will get advice from others on the subject also.
EDIT:  Your asumption that all OS'es will recognize the raid0 devices as a single drive does not apply to archlinux which does not autodetect raid arrays but must have initramfs populated with the raid data established by mdadm and initiated into initramfs by mkinitcpio.  Then during boot sequences , the array is assembled and enabled as a single drive,i.e., md0.  The boot sequence assembles all drives having identical UUID's in the raid array.

  • Disk Partitioning / Logical Drives vs. One Key Recovery Functionality

I just purchased a Windows 7 Lenovo H530 and need to know if I can shrink the C: drive and add an extended partition with logical volumes without disabling OKR / Rescue System 3.0 functionality. My 1 TB HDD:
    200 MB     SYSTEM_DRV (Primary Partition)
    906 GB     C: (Boot/System Primary Partition)
    25.07 GB  Unlabeled (OEM Partition)
I've read loss of F2 functionality due to recovery partition ID changes and/or OKR fails to complete due to any change in the size of the original C: drive...also read post of successful OKR after altering the C: drive.
Has anyone successfully attempted this on a newer machine? I can't find a definitive answer as the OKR software has been updated over time and most of the post are 2+ years old.  Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Hi, You're lucky if you only have 2 partitions - isn't there a nice tiny one of 0,2 Gigabytes also?
What I can tell you is that I spent a lot of time as well trying to mend the soft/partitioning and to get rid of bloatware!
In short: I did a clean reinstall + recovered my OEM activation + partitioned the HDD as I wanted. Now it looks and reacts familiar (I used XP as well, before).
BEWARE: trying partitions managers as Easeus or Paragon has blocked my partitions - they seem to be "coded" somehow.
Do not hesitate: after you backup activation erase totally HDD (I used killdisc) and all shall be gone and you start fresh.
Get a Win 7 serching for "digitalriver" Get ABW for activation restoring Get drivers from Lenovo support, install only what you need by function not all of them!
Send a PM if you need more details. Regards from Romania!
    Enjoy!

  • Partition Storedge 3310

    Hello All,
My first connection on this forum & I would need your help.
    I have to configure a Storedge 3310 (6 disks 72Gb).
    Already created:
    1 Logical Drive: 5 disks in Raid 5 + 1 Spare
    Size of the drive: 279GB.
    I need to create 11 partitions (10*12GB + 1*159GB), but apparently, I can create only 8 partitions (from 0 to 7).
Could you help me? I don't know how to do.
I already read this topic: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=831&threadID=5098175
But the answer is not really clear (for me...)
    Thx.

I had to do something similar on site today, I believe (although have not tried it) that you alter the number of partitions to create on the 3320, however an alternative way of partitioning the Logical Drive is to let Solaris do it, by that I mean LVM ( formly known as disksuite). Bring the logical drive into solaris and create one large partition. Bring that single partition into LVM and then use "soft partitioning" to break it up. I have done this before and it works fine, its just another way of doing the same job albeit on the host and not on the Array.

  • StorEdge 3310 : resize a partition

    Hi all,
I've got a 3310 partition that I'd like to resize, filesystem is becoming full. The configuration is like this :
Two node cluster, with metasets, two 3310 disk arrays configured with partitions, not logical volumes. Both 3310 have the same configuration, and are mirrored in SVM
    sccli> show lun-maps
Ch Tgt LUN   ld/lv   ID-Partition  Assigned  Filter Map

    ld1-03   1ED761AC-03       4.88GB
    ld1-04   1ED761AC-04      46.59GB
So I want to grow the ld1-02 partition up to 40GB, last partition of logical drive is not used. For safety reasons I decided to detach the 5GB submirror also, as the partition will probably be resized too ( temporarly )
    So I decided to :
    detach the submirrors,
    unmap the luns,
    delete the last partition,
    resize the partition ld1-02
Resize the partition ld1-03 ( which will recreate the ld1-04 with the remaining free space )
    Map the partitions
    Attach the submirrors
Do the same with the second submirror which is on the second 3310
When I try to do this I've got this message :
    sccli> configure partition ld1-04 delete

    ld1-02   1ED761AC-02      30720MB
    ld1-03   1ED761AC-03      52713MB
Repartitioning may cause data to be lost.
    Change partition table? yes
    sccli: lun map exists
Any Idea why I can't delete the last partition ? Do I need to delete all partitions and recreate them ? Is there an easier way to do this ?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi,
No there are no mapping for this partition, only partitions 1ED761AC-00 / 01 / 02 /03

  • Logical drive partition not showing in Mac OS.

    Hi all,
I'm rather new to mac OS and am hoping someone could help me out with this problem.
I've a windows partition (C:) running Vista Ultimate. In it, I had created 'logical drive' which contains a FAT32 (D:)and a NTFS (E:)partition. I'm thinking of using this 'D:' drive to share data between vista and Mac OS. However, when I boot up into Mac OS, both d: and e: drives are not showing (c: showing thought). I went into Terminal and use the 'diskutil list' command, it doesn't show me my D: and E: partition.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Simon

    MacDrive7 allows 32-bit Windows to access r/w to HFS+.
There is a Google kit for NTFS.
I had terrible performance and luck with Paragon Software's NTFS for Mac OS X 6.0 ($30) and would not recommend it.
If you are willing to start over, clone your Vista. Maybe WinClone or Norton Ghost.
Reformat your internal drive with Disk Utility after backing up (Apple Disk Utility Restore).
Don't use BootCamp and create Vista NTFS, FAT32 and Mac OS X. Don't install or restore OS X until AFTER you have Vista installed.
BootCamp only allows for a 2nd partition and I'm not a fan of its methods and limitations.

Only with a whole lot of effort and instability.  As the new Minis have
hardware (HD4000, USB 3.0, etc.) that is totally unsupported in old OSes.
The only option would be to see if it would work by installing in a virtual machine
running 10.6.8.  I'm sure there will be some performance hit but whether it would
be enough to be unusable is the question.

  • Adding 146GB drives to StorEdge 3310

I have a StorEdge 3310 with 6 72GB drives in it (RAID 10). Customer wants to add a pair of 146GB drives to increase capacity. Is there any issue with having disparate sized drives in a 3310 RAID array?

    I have a 3310 disk array with 12 72gb drives ,
configured raid 5 , 1 hot spare...The host side scsi
    parms are max queded i/o 256, luns /host 32, max #
    concurent host lun 128, cyl/head/sector
    cyl-65536,head-64, sector-255...... NO problems.
I have added a 3310 expansion unit to the original
disk array. expansion unit also configured raid5 ,
one local spare. sd.conf also update. I am able to
newfs, mount and use the disk. however it odd
compared to othe disks when using the solaris format

noticed that one of the options for cyl/head/sector
was variable. does anyone have experience using the
    option???

  • Storedge 3310 and format

    hi,
    i have the following problem:
a storedge 3310 with raid controller. i have partitioned the volume ( which consists of 6 raid 1 logical drives) into 4 partions and assigned luns to these partitions.
    probe-scsi-all shows the following:
    /pci@1e,600000/pci@2/scsi@4
    Target 0
    Unit 0 Disk SUN StorEdge 3310 0325
    Unit 1 Disk SUN StorEdge 3310 0325
    Unit 2 Disk SUN StorEdge 3310 0325
    Unit 3 Disk SUN StorEdge 3310 0325
format shows only the first one:
    0. c0t0d0
    /pci@1c,600000/scsi@2/sd@0,0
    1. c0t1d0
    /pci@1c,600000/scsi@2/sd@1,0
    2. c2t0d0
    /pci@1e,600000/pci@2/scsi@4/sd@0,0
where are the other three partitions?

    Hi there,
I have a similar situation where I set up a SE 3310 connected to a Sunfire V210 running Solaris 10 GA.
The SE 3310 was set up as 2 RAID 5 logical volumes, each
with 5x72GB disk drives. I also map the hosts LUNS etc...
At the V210, when I did the probe-scsi-all it sees both RAID5
logical disks as StorEdge 3310 0325 (firmware 3.25)
however when I boot up with the -rv option, it only sees one
RAID5. Where is the other RAID 5 logical drive?
I did update_drv -f sd, devfsadm; manually edit the sd.conf
to add additional controllers and LUN's (c0,c1,c2 and up to
32 LUN's for each controller, but I still do not see the other
RAID5 logical drive. Where is it?
    Please help !!!

  • Storedge 3310 & Dual Ultra3 Adaptor

    Hi all,
    A couple of things...
    1. We have 2 storedge 3310 and two machines with Ultra3 Adaptors. I can not see the 3310 using the Ultra3 adaptors. If I plug the 3310 into the host controller I can see it, (but that is not ideal as it is running slow). at the 'ok' prompt I can see the 3310, but I can never get anything to display in 'format' or on the ssconsole.
    commands tried:
    reboot -- -r
    update_drv -f sd
    devfsadm -v
All with no luck. Any ideas?
    2. With the 3310 I have configure one logical RAID 5 drive (5 disks) and partitioned into 4 and mapped each partition to a host lun.
I have mucked with /kernel/drv/sd.conf and put "set scsi_options=0x43ff8" into /etc/system, I can never see the anything but the first partion on the first lun.
    Help please :-)

Have you downloaded and installed the Ultra3 SUNWqus....packages & installed patch as in the release notes or InfoDoc 47841?

  • Can you install Boot Camp on a Pegasus2 Logical Drive?

Trying to plan my upgrade to the new Mac Pros and I'm wondering whether it's possible to install Boot Camp on a logical drive located on a Promise Pegasus2 Thunderbolt enclosure? Ideally I'd be setting up a series of logical drives on a Pegasus2 (2 to duplicate existing drives in my current Mac Pro, 1 for Time Machine, and 1 for Boot Camp) but I can't seem to find out whether Boot Camp partitions are supported...

I too would like to install a bootcamp partition on an SD card so that I will not loose a huge chuck of my internal drive to Windows, a system I need very rarely (this is important for all users of SSHDs, where internal storage space is precious).
If it is not possible to create a bootcamp partition on an external SD card, how about installing Lion first on that SD card, booting from the SD card, and then creating the bootcamp partition on that card. I would think that Lion's disk utility would consider the SD card as the internal disk, and so should make the partition and allow the installation. Large fast SD cards are not cheap, but I would think that this would be an option for those of us with limited internal storage space.
    Has anybody tried this option?

  • Multiple Thunderbird in different OS's on same computer to access Profile on common logical drive

I installed Windows 8.1 as a alternate OS on a machine that already has Windows 7 (and Thunderbird). The hard drive is partitioned and the T'Bird Profile files are on another logical drive accessible to both OS's with the same drive designation.
    I've run into two problems:
    1. While the new Win 8.1 installation of T'Bird sees all of the mail folders and messages (and can get new messages from this POP3 account, this setup does not see the address books also within that same profile, and
    2. It does not successfully send SMTP (even with the same account settings.
With respect to the last, I recall from working with T'Bird and its predecessor that the SMTP password was set upon initial use, but never again appeared for any editing purposes; the only time it showed up was when creating a new SMTP source. In this case, I don't see where I can re-enter the SMTP password. And, I did try creating a new SMTP setup, but it didn't help. I entered the correct password, but it was not successful. Any ideas on how I can get this set up?
With the Address Books, even though this new T'Bird installation knows where the Profile is (as evidenced by the fact that it does see the mail folders and messages), it doesn't see the Address Books. Again, I don't see where there is the setting for the Address Book(s) location. I looked for the familiar file that tells the program where to find everything else, but I couldn't find it in this new Win 8.1 installation.
Any ideas on these two issues would be greatly appreciated!

I finally found the answer. I was able to unhide the Users folder in Win 8.1. I simply copied the Thunderbird folders from the Win 7 Users\''UserName''\AppData\Local and Users\''UserName''\AppData\Roaming folders to the same location on the 8.1 Users folder.
As soon as I did that, and rebooted, my SMTP was fixed, and all of the address books were available. (And of course, it still works in the Win 7 world, too.)
From what I can glean the data in these folders tell Thunderbird key information no covered by the Folder setting option in the program itself.
I don't know if copying those folders is what 3rd party vendors promise in assisting with relocating existing setups, but it should.
To recap, I am trying out Win 8.1 on the same computer as an pre-existing Win7. I wanted to use my same familiar programs, obviously including Thunderbird, with the same setup and access to the same mail and address books located on a common additional logical drive.
Copying those folders to the new OS, as well as pointing the new program installation to the existing T'bird Profile accomplished it all.

The question is whether or not to upgrade the firmware. Since the current firmware is so old (version 3.x) there seems to be special instructions to bring it to 4.x, and eventually 4.15G. Which would include OS patches as well. (117171-12).
Or, just carry on, since this has only happened once (during the last billing run) in the last 9 runs/months.

What is the difference between the host/drive channel? Besides the fact that they are their for connecting to disk drive or to host. Because lets say I connect the first RAID controller to the second one, host-to-host configuration from one RAID to another, will the host see this transparently?
By the way, I tried the JBOD method you mention so basically just connect one of the RAID unit to the other one just as a JBOD and the RAID controller can see the disks on a difference channel but only half of the disk because the RAID I/O actually have internal conneciton to half of the disk, while the other half is jumper.

  • I want to partition c drive but it shows an message no free MBR slots available how it can be fix?

i have hp dv62127 laptop and I want to partition C disk drive into 2 more disk drives but this laptop contain 4 primary partition and due to  it shows an message no free MBR slots available so how it can be fixed so that i could make 3 partion?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

You can resize (shrink) the C: Partition and make logical drives within it. You cannot make more Primary drives. There is a limit of four primary drives in a Windows operating system. The new logical drives will not be bootable.
    Be advised:
When you change the original partition scheme you will lose the ability to access the Recovery manager with the F11 keystroke to recover your operating system.
A better option is to purchase a second hard disk. Back up the data on your original hard drive so you can put it on the new one.  Remove the original hard drive and perform a system recovery using the recovery media to the new hard disk. With the original hard disk put aside in a safe place you can always recover your notebook by removing the new hard drive and putting the old one back in its place. The F11 method of invoking the Recovery manager will be available on the new hard drive. The original hard disk in your notebook is a SATA 2.5" notebook that is 9.5mm in height. If you consider a disk larger than 500GB pay close attention to the height. A 12.5mm might not fit in the drive bay.
Identify your notebook with the p/n (Product name) shown on the sticker on the bottom of the notebook  The following image is a sample service tag.You posted an incomplete and improperly formatted model number. There are two letters missing that
should be on the end of what you posted.
