Pass returning value of get methods to a FM

Hi experts,
I got a getter method, that returns a class value via RETURNING. Is it possible to call a FM and pass the returned parameter directly to an importing value of the FM?
e.g.
CALL FUNCTION 'MY_FM'
    EXPORTING
      test     = my_class->get_my_value( ).
this doesn't work.
Isn't there a way to do this besides assigning the return parameter to a temporary variable and pass this one to the FM?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Tobi

Hi,
   Though this is not possible syntactically, there is one workaround.
Its not exactly what we want but just a thought.
You can create Public static attribute and mark it as Read only.
then you can pass the value of it directly using the classname=>attribute name.
I know its not exactly what you want but servers most of the purpose.

  • Getting return value of a method in an interface

    Hello! I have a problem. I have an interface called I. One of the declared method in this interface is M. And I have a class called C. Class C declares Interface I. I want to get the return value of the method M. I used invoke method. M.invoke(anInstance, arg[]). You can't take the instance of interfaces or abstract classes. If I use a class instead of instance for anInstance variable, i get "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: object is not an instance of declaring class" error. If I use an instance, i get "java.lang.IllegalAccessException: Can not call newInstance() on the Class for java.lang.Class" error. This is because of getting an instance of an interface. if you can help me. i will be greatfully happy.

    Thanks for the feedback Tom although you should rethink what you said.
    I did not trash your suggestion, nor did I make any reference to it.
    Perhaps you should read the OP to see where you went wrong.
    OP wants to know return type of Interface's methodNo, the OP wants to obtain the return value.
    AND OP knows that instantiation won't work.He was trying to instantiate an Interface, which is not possible. In order for him invoke a Method he needs a concrete implementation. I was simply pointing out what he needs to do in order to acheive his aim.
    b) there may be no known implementing classes at
    runtimeIf there is no implementing class provided then he will not be able to invoke a method on its instance.
    c) even if there were such a class, instantiating it
    may have unwanted side effects, takes unnecessary
    timeWhy is that a problem? One reason for invoking M is to see what happens.
    the class may have N methods while the interface
    has only one, so you might look for the correct method
    too longIf you bothered to study the code I supplied I obtain a Method from the Interface class so there is no problem in "looking" for a method, besides which there can be exactly 1 method with a given signature in any class so there is no searching involved.
    On a personal note, such negative replies are neither helpful to the OP and can cause a credibility problem caused by being labelled a Troll.

  • In BADi , How to pass the values between two Method

    Hi Experts,
    We have two methods in BADis. How to pass the value  between two Methods. Can you guys explain me out with one example...
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sivakumar S

    Hi Sivakumar!
    Create a function group.
    Define global data (there is a similiar menu point to jump to the top include).
    Create one or two function modules, with which you can read and write the global data.
    In your BADI methods you can access the global data with help of your function modules. It will stay in memory through the whole transaction.

  • Remote Object - not able to get the returned value from java method

         Hi ,
    I am developing one sample flex aplication that connects to the java code and displays the returned value from the
    java method in flex client. Here I am able to invoke the java method but not able to collect the returned value.

    I am using flex 3.2 and blazeds server  and java 1.5

        <scope>application</scope>
       </properties>
      </destination>
    Please help me .

    You are not able to get the returned value because if you see the Remote object help you will realise you have to use result="resultfn()" and fault = "faultfn()"
    In this you define what you wish to do.
    More importantly in the remote object you need to define which method you wish to call using the method class like this
    <mx:RemoteObject id="remoteObj" destination="sro" result="r1" fault="f1"  >
         <Method name="javaMethodName" result="r2" fault="f2"/>
    <mx:RemoteObject>
    r2 is the function where you get the result back from java and can use it to send the alert.

  • How to get the return value of a method

    hi there
    here is the code i write a method
    public void time(int x,int y){
    int xx;
    int yy;
    xx++;
    yy++;
    x=xx;
    y=yy;
    i want to use the return value of x and y at another place,who can tell if it is possible. thank u very much

    You declare the return type of the method, and then use the return keyword to return a value which you can assign to a variable.
    As the other respondent said, you cannot return more than one value from a function. If you need to return two related values, you may want to enclose them in a class and return an instance of that class. For instance:
    class TimeValue {
       final int x;
       final int y;
    public TimeValue(int x, int y) {
       this.x = x;
       this.y = y;
    }Then your method could create a new TimeValues and return it:
    public TimeValue time(int x,int y){
       int xx = x;
       int yy = y;
       ++xx;
       ++yy;
       return new TimeValue(xx, yy);
    }

  • I can't over give my variable to the return in the get Method!

    At the moment I am working with JDOM. I am able to get access to the XML File with JDOM, but when I want to send, the value of a variable, which I get from the XML File it is not possible. Your Java Learner

    I suspect you are setting the scheduledtdversion member in one instance of your FileAuswahl class, but are creating yet another instance of that class and printing the member of that instance, which is null. I notice you are creating a new FileAuswahl instance each time something happens, rather than reusing the same instance.
    FileAuswahl fileauswahl = new FileAuswahl();Ok, new object here. Not the same one that you previously set the scheduledtdversion member in
    String dtdversion = fileauswahl.getDtdVersion();It's null of course, for the reason above.

  • NEED HELP on returning values from a method

    Hello Java World,
    Does anyone know how to return more then 1 value from a method..
    ex.
    //the following returns one value
    //Person Class
    private String getname()
    return this.name;
    how can i get two values (ex. name and occupation of person)
    Thank you in advance.

    Create a Class which will hold the values you want and return that object. Or return a List, or return an array, or - taking your example with the person, why don't you return the whole person object?

  • The problem of return value from a method

    Hi everyone:
    I want return a value from following method. The basic idea is that I want use Num as a parameter to get a value from a field, therefore I can input this value into another database for the display purpose by using other classes. However I got error message when I compiled it.
    "method does not return a value"
    I know it is a problem, but how I can fix it? I need your help. Thanks in advance.
    Dawei
    Method:
    public int Read(int Num) {
    try{
    String qr1 = "select Record form Buffer where Record="+Num+"";
    ResultSet rs = statement.executeQuery(qr1);
    while (!rs.next()){
              int result=rs.getInt(1);
    return(result);
         catch (SQLException e){
                   System.err.println("Error in inserting into database " + e);
                        System.exit(1);
    return 1;

    "select Record form Buffer ...Hopefully "form" is actually "from" in your code.
    You have three points of exit from your routine, and only two return value statements.
    1 -Return inside the while loop has a value.
    2- Return inside the exception block (not sure that '1' would be a valid number)
    3- The very end of the method, just before the last '}' does not have a return statement.
    By the way, this question has nothing to do with JDBC, so another forum might be a better place to post it.

  • Passing many values to a method!

    I have many values, say 15, to be passed to another method! What is the best way to do this? Thanks,

    if the word "independant" suggests that they are of
    different types, then they are not!No, I mean it in the sense of not, naturally, being grouped together. Not relating to the same entity.
    Bean is a good idea, but the number of setter &
    getter methods is tedious!It's normal to use some kind of bean for this. It's called a "Data Transfer Object". It's a convenience when you deal with a validation error, since the bean lends itself to repopulating the fields when re-presenting the form.
    In fact it's common to generate forms using a standard set of tab libraries called JSTL, which assume a bean as a DTO.
    Beans are tedious to assemble by hand, but, as has been pointed out, if you use an IDE it will probably generate accessor methods for you one way or another.

  • How to know that a method has been called and returning value of a method

    Hi, everyone! I have two questions. One is about making judgment about whether a method has been called or not; another one is about how to return "String value+newline character+String value" with a return statement.
    Here are the two original problems that I tried to solve.
    Write a class definition of a class named 'Value' with the following:
    a boolean instance variable named 'modified', initialized to false
    an integer instance variable named 'val'
    a constructor accepting a single paramter whose value is assigned to the instance variable 'val'
    a method 'getVal' that returns the current value of the instance variable 'val'
    a method 'setVal' that accepts a single parameter, assigns its value to 'val', and sets the 'modified' instance variable to true, and
    a boolean method, 'wasModified' that returns true if setVal was ever called.
    And I wrote my code this way:
    public class Value
    boolean modified=false;
    int val;
    public Value(int x)
    {val=x;}
      public int getVal()
      {return val;}
       public void setVal(int y)
        val = y;
        modified = true;
         public boolean wasModified()
          if(val==y&&modified==true)
          return true;
    }I tried to let the "wasModified" method know that the "setVal" has been called by writing:
    if(val==y&&modified==true)
    or
    if(x.setVal(y))
    I supposed that only when the "setVal" is called, the "modified" variable will be true(it's false by default) and val=y, don't either of this two conditions can prove that the method "setVal" has been called?
    I also have some questions about the feedback I got
    class Value is public, should be declared in a file named Value.java
    public class Value
    cannot find symbol
    symbol  : variable y
    location: class Value
    if(val==y&&modified==true)
    *^*
    *2 errors*
    I gave the class a name Value, doesn't that mean the class has been declared in a file named Value.java*?
    I have declared the variable y, why the compiler cann't find it? is it because y has been out of scale?
    The other problem is:
    Write a class named  Book containing:
    Two instance variables named  title and  author of type String.
    A constructor that accepts two String parameters. The value of the first is used to initialize the value of  title and the value of the second is used to initialize  author .
    A method named  toString that accepts no parameters.  toString returns a String consisting of the value of  title , followed by a newline character, followed by the value of  author .
    And this is my response:
    public class Book
    String title;
    String author;
      public Book(String x, String y)
       { title=x; author=y; }
       public String toString()
       {return title;
        return author;
    }I want to know that is it ok to have two return statements in a single method? Because when I add the return author; to the method toString, the compiler returns a complain which says it's an unreachable statement.
    Thank you very much!

    Lets take this slow and easy. First of all, you need to learn how to format your code for readability. Read and take to heart
    {color:0000ff}http://java.sun.com/docs/codeconv/html/CodeConvTOC.doc.html{color}
    Now as to your first exercise, most of it is OK but not this:   public boolean wasModified()
          if (val == y && modified == true)
                return true;
    y being a parmeter to the setValue method exists only within the scope of that method. And why would you want to test that anyways? If modified evaluates to true, that's all you need to know that the value has been modified. So you could have   public boolean wasModified()
          if (modified == true)
                return true;
       }But even that is unnecessarily verbose, as the if condition evaluates to true, and the same is returned. So in the final analysis, all you need is   public boolean wasModified()
          return modified;
       }And a public class has to be declared in a file named for the class, yes.
    As for your second assignment, NO you cannot "return" two variables fom a method. return means just that: when the return statement is encountered, control returns to the calling routine. That's why the compiler is complaining that the statement following the (first) return statement is unreachable.
    Do you know how to string Strings together? (it's called concatenation.) And how to represent a newline in a String literal?

  • Exchange Powershell return value from Get-command to variable.

    Hi
    I am trying to create a powershell-script for our monitoring-software.
    The script is supposed to establish a connection to our exchange-server mgmt-shell and execute this command:
    "Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus"
    I have the connection in place, but am missing the knowledge of how to return the result of the command to my script, which I can then pass to our monitoring-software.
    (The script take 2 parameters - host and command eg. exch01.domain and Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus).
    Current code:
    $statusAlive = "ScriptRes:Host is alive:"
    $statusDead = "ScriptRes:No answer:"
    $statusUnknown = "ScriptRes:Unknown:"
    $statusNotResolved = "ScriptRes:Unknown host:"
    $statusOk = "ScriptRes:Ok:"
    $statusBad = "ScriptRes:Bad:"
    $statusBadContents = "ScriptRes:Bad contents:"
    $pass = cat C:\securestring.txt | convertto-securestring
    $Cred = new-object -typename System.Management.Automation.PSCredential -argumentlist "domain\administrator",$pass
    $host = $args[0]
    $command = $args[1]
    <#
    if (!$args[0]) {
    echo $statusUnknown"Host parameter is empty"
    exit
    if (!$args[1]) {
    echo $statusUnknown"Command parameter is empty"
    exit
    #>
    $session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri http://$host/powershell -Credential $cred
    Import-PSSession $session
    $command
    Remove-PSSession $session
    Now, how do I "catch" the value of the executed command and return it to a variable in the script?
    Best Regards,
    Soren

    Hmm.. doesnt seem to work quite right.
    I added "Echo $result" after "Remove-PSSession $session", but then I just get a bunch of information..

    I am only interested in the 2 "ContentIndexState" - how can I pick these 2 out and put them into a variable?
    I though the command "Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus" would only display these two, since it is what happens if I run the command inside PowerShell on the server itself.

  • Show return value of a method-call within a column of ADF table component

    Hi,
    I'm currently developing a ADF "Master Form - Detail Table" component, which displays trips of a car in master form, and all related trip-point information in detail table. This detail table contains the following fields within a row :
    - idTripPoint
    - receivedAt
    - speed
    - coordinates
    Everything is displayed well when deploying my app. What I now want to implement is one more column into my detail table, which displays the result of a method-call which gets the coordinates of the corresponding tripPoint and executes a query to find the nearest neighbour to this point. This method afterwards returns a string which contains a textual description for the coordinates (e.g. 10 km south of Hilton Plaza). This method is defined within my SessionBean and also available within the Data Control Palette.
    What I first did, was just to drag the result (String) of my getTripPointDescription(JGeometry) method to a newly created column within my details table, released it there and set the corresponding NDValue for my method. I used the id of my details table table definition in PageDef for that (${bindings.TripstripPointsList.currentRow.dataProvider.coordinates}). I don't know if this is correct.
    When deploying my app, nothing happened, because my method has never been called. So I decided to implement an invokeAction within my PageDef which calls the generated methodAction within PageDef.
    It looks like that now:
    <executables>
    <invokeAction id="callDescription" Binds="getTripPointDescription"
    Refresh="prepareModel"/>
    </executables>
    <bindings>
    <methodAction id="getTripPointDescription"
    InstanceName="TripsEJBFacadeLocal.dataProvider"
    DataControl="TripsEJBFacadeLocal"
    MethodName="getTripPointDescription"
    RequiresUpdateModel="true" Action="999"
    IsViewObjectMethod="false"
    ReturnName="TripsEJBFacadeLocal.methodResults.TripsEJBFacadeLocal_dataProvider_getTripPointDescription_result">
    <NamedData NDName="tripPoint"
    NDValue="${bindings.TripstripPointsList.currentRow.dataProvider.coordinates}"
    NDType="oracle.spatial.geometry.JGeometry"/>
    </methodAction>
    </bindings>
    Now my method is called once for the coordinates of the first row of my detail table and the generated result is entered within each row.
    So how is it possible to get this standard-behaviour (within other application-frameworks) work in ADF? I just want to display a textual description of a coordinate instead of x/y coordinates within my table. And the corresponding method to get this textual description based on the x/y coordinate should be called for each row displayed in my table.
    I currently walked through all ADF-tutorials and blogs I found on the Internet, but every table example I found only displays data of the associated Entity-Bean. And method Action and accessorIterator are only used with command objects.
    Thank you,
    Thomas

    Sorry, I forgot to say which technologies I use:
    - Toplink Essentials JPA for Model layer (EJB 3.0)
    - ADF in View Layer
    I still hope someone can help me finding an answer.
    Bets Regards,
    Thomas

    Hi,
    Check the size of that Window in which you are displaying this Text of 130 characters.
    May be it is less
    in that case split that string into 2 strings and pass the two strings from ITCSY structure to script and use.
    reward if useful
    regards,

  • How do I get (in c) a method return value from the java side?

    I have a class in the Java side, that I pass as object to the c side.
    in the Java class I have the following method:
    public String getPgmId()
    return pgmId;
    where pgmId is a private string.
    I nees to get the value of pgmId, hopefully by using the getPgmId method.
    what I have until now is:
    JNIEXPORT jint JNICALL Java_JavaAPI_StartProgram (JNIEnv *env, jobject obj, jobject obj2)
    jmethodID methID;
    jstring jstr;
    const char *str;
    /* Get a reference to obj2 class */
    jclass cls = (*env)->GetObjectClass (env, obj2);
    if (cls == NULL){
    return;
    methID = (*env)->GetMethodID (env, cls, "getPgmId", "()Ljava/lang/String;");
    }//StartProgram
    my question is how from this point, can I get the return value of the method getPgmId().
    tnx

    jString CallStringMethod(env, obj2, methID);
