Pass Values between 2 web dynpro applications

Hey,
I have a created an application which display data from table 1, I am capturing the value ON_LEAD_SELECT
and calling another application2,
I wanna be able to export the value selected from applciation1 into
applciation2.
This what I tried to export selected value, it didn't work through:
in application 1:
construct a URL
CALL METHOD cl_wd_utilities=>construct_wd_url
    EXPORTING
      application_name = 'APPLICATION2'
    IMPORTING
      out_absolute_url = str.
concatenate str '?' 'carrid =' ls_sflight-carrid into str.
get reference of window from component
l_cmp_api = wd_comp_controller->wd_get_api( ).
l_window  = l_cmp_api->get_window_manager( ).
get reference of window of target component
result = l_window->create_external_window(
url    = str ).
result->open( ).
Thanks in advance

Whatever value you have, you need to put into string format anyway.
Just declare a temporary string field and move yoru carrid value to it before calling the append_field_url method.
From application 2 you read the URL parameters using the start plug of the window.

  • How do i pass parameters to a web dynpro application ?

    Hi all,
    how do i best possible pass (serverspecific) parameters to a web dynpro application ?
    i wrote a web dynpro application that, among other things, sends an email and stores files on a server directory. Therefor i need parameters like e.g. "mailhost" or "directory".
    The way i chose is to make a *.properties file. But from my point of view there are some disadvantages.
    1) When i deploy the WD App to a new server, i have to edit the properties file before. I don't know how to do that. Do i have to edit the *.properties file again, before i make a new ear-Archive with NWDS ?
    2) When the properties a wrong or change for a deployed app, i have to restart the J2EE Engine. Thats not convenient for a production server.
    Is there a better way ?
    Thanks
    Andreas
    (And I promise to return and reward the answers)

    Hi Andreas,
    You can't use something like portalapp.xml because this is not supported by webdynpro, but ... you can add this parameters at the end off the webdynpro address line. like http://<host>:<port>/webdynpro/dispatcher/local/<Webdynproproject>/<webdynproApplication>?host=yourhost
    In your application you can get these variables:
    String host = WDWebContextAdapter.getWebContextAdapter().getRequestParameter("host");
    when you create a webdynpro iview you can specify the default value for the variables in the URL in the properties of the iview and i think you can personalize them later.
    kind regards,

  • Exchanging data between a Web Dynpro application and SAP Web Shop

    I'll try to keep this as clear as possible:
    1) We have the SAP Internet Sales system running, which has a series of Business Object classes and corresponding Backend Layer objects that can return data from several sources.
    2) We are able to create our own Backend Layer objects that would return data from a component called IPC, which is a Java component.
    3) I would like a Web Dynpro application to retrieve data from this backend layer object, but I am not experienced enough with Java to know if what I want to do is possible. I don't think that I can use JCo, because I am trying to get a Java component (class?) in Web Dynpro to access a Java class remotely.
    4) I think I am asking is this: is there a way for a Java to Java connection to be created, much like Web Dynpro can use JCo to connect Java to ABAP systems?
    If this is a glaringly obvious question to Java programmers, my apologies!
    - Tony.

    Somebody on another forum recommended using RMI. Which would be the better option in terms of ease of implementation?

  • Access KM predefined property values from a Web Dynpro application

    Hi,
    I am trying to build a custom search interface in Web Dynpro which leverages the KMC Indexing and Search services.
    In this interface I would like to display value lists of predefined properties in KM (created using the Property Metadata Service) and bind each predefined property's value list to a checkbox group UI element.
    Which KM API should I use to retrieve the values of a specific predefined property ?
    When using the standard flexible user interface in the portal this can easily be achieved through configuration, but now I would like to know how to achieve this in Java code.
    Thanks in advance for your input.
    I have some idea on how to get the propertymap from a resource, but how can I access the metadata of a predefined property in KM directly ?

    Hi Theo, i'm working on something like this, i have a WD application that is accessing Km through a Webservice, on the webservice ejb i have this problem:
    IResourceFactory resFactory = ResourceFactory.getInstance();
    IRepositoryServiceFactory serFactory = resFactory.getServiceFactory();
    IPropertyConfigurationService propConfigService = (IPropertyConfigurationService) serFactory.getService("PropertyConfigurationService");
    IMetaNameListIterator i = propConfigService.getMetaModel().nameIterator();
         while (i.hasNext()) {
         IMetaName metaname = i.next();
         if ( metaname.getDocumentPatterns()!= null){
         propertyData.setId(metaname.getName());
         propertyData.setName(metaname.getLabel(locale));
         propertyData.setNamespace(metaname.getNamespace());
         propertyData.setDescription(metaname.getDescription(locale));
                    propertyList.add(propertyData);
    On this line serFactory.getService("PropertyConfigurationService") i get the following error on the trace:
    #System.err#sap.com/KmmsListEAR#System.err#Guest#2####30a27fa0cbfa11dbace30018de0545f1#SAPEngine_Application_Thread[impl:3]#Error##Plain###Configuration Framework error: unable to create an IConfigClientContext instance from an EP5 userInitialConfigException: The configuration service locator could not be initialized for any of the environments. The configuration framework is not available.
    Do you have any idea of how to solve this? or if you accomplished in a different way, can you guide me a little bit.
    Thanks in advance Theo

  • Using EJBs in Web Dynpro Applications

    I have recently started to develop Web applications using the Web Dynpro framework. Coming from a pure J2EE world, I must admit that Web Dynpro has a few innovative features that I find interesting for user interface development. The use of component & view contexts, for example, is not unlike the ActionForms that one may find in a Struts application, but pushed a bit further. No complaints here.
    What I do have some problems with is the whole CommandBean paradigm that is put forth by SAP (refer to the document <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/webdynpro/using%20ejbs%20in%20web%20dynpro%20applications.pdf">Using EJBs in Web Dynpro Applications</a>).
    I do understand the usefulness of defining a model that will be used to generate and eventually bind to Context data structures. That's fine. What I do object to is the use of a so-called CommandBean to play that role. Again, coming from a J2EE world, I am familiar with the BusinessDelegate pattern - which would typically be used by a client application to invoke business logic on the server side. I would propose that a better, cleaner way of integrating EJBs with the Web Dynpro framework would be to use a BusinessDelegate for invoking business logic, and importing a separate and distinct ModelBean (instead of a CommandBean) to be used for defining and binding to Context data.
    I have built one Web Dynpro application thus far. Instead of using a CommandBean, I created a ModelBean that extends my business object DTO (Data Transfer Object) (which is quite appropriate for that role, given that it implements all the get & set methods that are required for the business data that I need to model). My Web Dynpro application also makes use of an independant BusinessDelegate that is packaged with my EJB DC - this is a standard best practice on J2EE projects. I have been asked by the people working with me to modify this architecture to bring it more in line with the SAP way of doing things. I am open-minded and willing to learn and accept new ways of thinking and doing things. However, I fail to understand the usefulness of merging structure and behaviour by resorting to CommandBeans:
    - <b>It violates the MVC paradigm</b> by having one object (the CommandBean) serve as both model AND controller as far as the Web Dynpro application is concerned. The CommandBean is obviously a model - since it is literally imported as such into the Web Dynpro application. It is ALSO a controller from the Web Dynpro's application perspective, since all calls to the back-end go thru the CommandBean via one or more of its execute_xxx methods. In contrast, the use of a business delegate by the Web Dynpro application clearly separates the model (the CommandBean... or rather, a more suitably named ModelBean) from the controller (BusinessDelegate).
    - <b>Doesn't carry its own weight</b>. In other words, I haven't yet been provided with any valid justification for going thru the extra effort of coding the CommandBean's execute methods. It's been proposed to me that it somehow serves as an abstraction layer between the Web Dynpro application and the business logic. I would argue that it is the BusinessDelegate's role to abstract away the back-end logic from clients. If one does have a BusinessDelegate available, I would argue there's no need to code execute methods in a separate CommandBean. To prove my point, I would simply point out that all of the CommandBean examples that I have seen so far, either in How-To documents, or in production code, all follow the same pattern....
    CommandBean.execute_doSomething() calls BusinessDelegate.doSomething()
    Not a heck of an "abstraction" layer... I would in fact argue that it is worse than useless. If some major change occurs in the business logic that requires changing the doSomething() operation, we expect of course to modify the BusinessDelegate. The Web Dynpro client will also presumably need to be modified - that's to be expected, and unavoidable. But then, we'll also need to go about and change the CommandBean's execute_doSomething() method - again, extra work for no apparent benefit. Adding and removing business methods has the same implication. All this for an layer that simply adds the prefix execute_ in front of all business method calls... Is this "abstraction layer" worth the cost of creating and maintaining it ??
    - <b>Unnecessarily complicates error handling</b>. I have been told that for technical reasons, it is recommended that all exceptions thrown by the CommandBean be of type WDException or WDRuntimException. But what if the client application needs to react differently to different failure scenarios ? When I create a business object, I might wish to provide the user with an error messages if connection is lost to the backend, and with a different error message if an object already exists in the database with the same attributes. In order to do that, I will have to catch the WDException, extract the cause, and continue processing from there... possible, yes, but clearly less standard and more labor intensive than the classical try/catch mechanism.
    To say nothing about the fact that SAP's own API documentation clearly states that applications using Web Dynpro can reference and catch WDExceptions, but THEY MUST NOT THROW OR EXTEND IT !
    - <b>Produces unnecessary DCs</b>. Page 6 of the aforementioned document presents an architectural view of a Web Dynpro project that uses a CommandBean. Why an extra DC for the CommandBean ?? I created my ModelBean class right inside the Web Dynpro project (in the Package view). That, to me, is where this class should reside, because it is created for no other reason that to be used by this particular Web Dynpro application. What is the benefit of placing it in its own independant DC ?
    - <b>Not a typical application of the Command pattern</b>. The well-documented command pattern (Design Patterns - Gang of Four) has been devised mainly to enable encapsulation of request as objects, thereby making it possible to:
    - specify, queue and execute requests at different times
    - decouple execution of a command from its invoker
    - support undo operations
    - support logging changes so that they can be reapplied in case of system crash making it possible to assemble commands into composite commands (macros), thereby structuring a system around high-level operations built on primitive operations.
    None of this applies to the way the SAP CommandBeans are being used. Not that much of an issue to people new to J2EE and/or OO development... but quite confusing for those already familiar with the classic Command pattern.
    At this point, I fail to understand the advantage of merging structure (model) and behaviour (execute methods) through the use of a unique CommandBean object. Am I missing something ?

    Hi Romeo,
    You would be disappointed, this reply ain't anywhere nearby to what you are talking about...
    I wanted to mail you, but you have not mentioned your email in your profile.
    I am really impressed by your flair for writing. It would be far better had you written a blog on this topic. Believe me, it would really be better. There is a much wider audience waiting out there to read your views rather than on the forums. This is what I believe. To top it, you would be rewarded for writing something like this from SDN. On the blogs too, people can comment and all, difference being there you would be rewarded by SDN, here people who reply to you would be rewarded by you. Doesn't make  much a difference.
    Anyways the ball is still in your court
    As far as I am concerned, it has still not been much time since I have started working on Web Dynpro. So can't really comment on the issue...

  • Can the role info be passed from portal to ABAP web dynpro application

    Hi,
    We have some roles in the portal. We call the ABAP web dynpro applications from the portal. Is it possible to pass on the role from the portal to the Web dynpro ABAP application so that we can use this role information in the application.
    Thanks,
    Pooja

    Hi,
    you can try to add the expression
      role=<IView.PCDUnit>
    as part of the Application Parameters in the iView. This will be the role in 99%. However not all iViews started in the Portal must belong to a role. You can start iViews using page navigation that are not part of a role. Therefore the PCD does not talk about roles but about "units" which is the superordinate term.
    the value will be the PCD path of the role - e.g:
      portal_content/myFolder/roles/myRole

  • Passing a parameter while calling a web dynpro application on portal

    hi
    I am having a web dynpro application which retrieves data from R/3 system via RFC using Jco destinations define in the Portal.
    Now we have different kinds of portals running on the same WAS, now I want the application to run which access data from different R/3 systems thru different JCo destinations.
    I need to create a logic such that mu application runs fine on any portal with any Jco destination.
    Is there any provision to achieve this.
    kindly let me know about this.
    Thanks and regards
    kris

    Gopi,
    there's an parameter called "sap-wd-arfc-useSys" you can pass to the application, to change the used JCo-Connection (read more at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/f4/651741f163f023e10000000a155106/frameset.htm)
    so, if you're running the WD-aaplication on <b>one</b> WAS and call it from different portals, you have to create three (or six with the META-connections) JCo-Connection on your WD-WAS.
    In a WD-application you can access URL-Parameters with:
    WDWebContextAdapter.getWebContextAdapter().getRequestParameter("<your URL Parameter-Name>");

    Hi All,
    Good morning..,
    I have scenario like:
    I want to pass the values from the web dynpro appication to the SAP Back end R/3 Table. IN backend the RFC is writtn to accept the structure input from the Webdynpro.
    Upto know I imported the corresponding RFC and maaped to the View.
    How to proceed with the coding to save the data...

    Hi  Pradeep
    Steps:
    1. First create an instance for bapi and bind the instance to the bapi node.
      Z<bapi name> zb=new Z<bapi name>();
      wdContext.nodeZ<bapi name>. bind(zb);
    2. Then if u have the import parameter u have to set them by using
        The instance of the above bapi.
        Zb.set<import parameters>;
    3. If the bapi has a table parameters then the structure for the table parameters will also be imported
       In the model class.
    4. Set the table parameters by creating the instance for that structure and using this instance set it.
       Z<Struct>itm tab=new Z<Struct>();
       Tab.set<table parameters>
    5. Then add the structure instance to the bapi instance.
        Zb.add(Tab);
    6. Then Execute the bapi after setting the import parameters.
    7.  If there is any export parameters, then get the values after execution.

    Hi Raja,
    Search help is availble at dictinary level you get F4 help automatically.
    Otherwise create OVS help for alternate payee. use WDR_OVS.

  • How to Pass values between one webdynpro application to another

    Hi ,
        I know How to Pass Values Between the Application by URL But For My Requirement NO need The Pass in URL Rather Than That Please any one TEll me How to GEt VAlues BEtween the application......
    Thanks
    ANANTH.

    If you dont want to pass values through URL, then you must have to use component Usage with interface node.
    Or you can try like this,
    by appending field value to url,
    Data w_url type string,
    w_value type string.
    get the url of calling aplication
    call method cl_Wd_utilities->construct_wd_url
    exporting application name = name of second application( to which u want to pass parameter )
    importing out_absolute_url = w_url.
    ***Make the value type compatible that has to passed with url.
    w_string = lv_pernr
    ***Now attach the parameter and its value with url that have to passed to 2nd application
    call method cl_http_Server=>append_field_url
    exporting name = 'pernr'
    value = ' w_value'
    changing url = w_url.
    then popup window for 2nd application with above url
    lo_window = lo_window_manager->create_external_application ( url = w_url ).
    lo_window -> open( ).
    ***now in wddoinit of 2nd application
    data lv_param type string
    lv_param = wdr_task=>client_window->get_parameter( ' pernr ').
    Now you can use lv_param in 2nd application.

  • Difference between mobile web dynpro and simple web dynpro application

    Hi Everyone,
    Can anyone pls let me know what's the difference b/w mobile web dynpro application and an offline or simple web dynpro application.
    Thank U!!
    Ravi Aswani

    Hi ,
    Mobile WebDynpro
    The SAP Web Application Server allows direct online access to Web Dynpro applications using mobile devices. As part of the SAP Web Application Server, Web Dynpro provides a development and runtime environment with which you can quickly and simply create professional user interfaces for desktop PCs or for mobile devices. An appropriate infrastructure and renderer classes are provided for developing mobile Web Dynpro applications for Pocket PCs as well as for BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds and Nokia Series 80 devices.
    http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_03/helpdata/EN/fa/100d4113eff16fe10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    WebDynpro Java
    Web Dynpro is a client-independent programming model of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform for developing user interfaces for professional business applications. It is based on the model view controller paradim which ensures that the business logic is separated from the presentation logic. This architecture is visible in the Web Dynpro perspective of the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio (NWDS).
    Web Dynpro helps you with the development of Web applications by:
    ·        Ensuring platform-independence with the meta model approach
    ·        Minimizing the implementation effort through declarative programming
    ·        Supporting a structured design process by applying the model view controller paradigm
    ·        Providing reuse and better maintainability by using components

  • How to display the error message during the web dynpro application runtime

    hi,
        I'm a java developer,During i 'deploy and run ' a web dynpro application on server-1,if the application have some runtime errors. there are displayed many infomation about the runtime error,such as exception track,etc.
        But when i do the same on server-2,there just show something like:
                500   Internal Server Error
                                    SAP NetWeaver Application Server 7.00/Java AS 7.00
                Failed to process request. Please contact your system administrator.
    but the server-1 will stop the j2ee engine.
    how can do i make server-2 show detail error message as server-1. when i debug web dynpro application need these infomation.
    Appreciate your inputs...
    (Note:server-1 and server-2 have same software version)

    The Sap-Notes 962319:
    1. Check in the Visual Administrator, "Licensing Adapter" -> "General" -> "SystemType" !
    If it is set to "DEVELOPMENT_MODE", verbose error messages are shown.
    If it is undefined, proceed with the next step.
    If it is set to something else, only exception IDs are shown. In this case the only chance is to search for this exception ID in the default traces.
    2. If the system type is undefined, then in the Config Tool "Configurations" -> "webdynpro" -> "sap.com" -> "tcwddispwda" -> "Propertysheet default" -> "DevelopmentMode" is evaluated. If it is "true", verbose error messages are shown.
    3. If verbose error messages are required but still the short version is shown, you probably face an error message that is not raised by Web Dynpro but by other components of the NetWeaver. In the Visual Administrator set "Properties" -> "HTTP Provider" -> "DetailedErrorResponse" to "true".
    4. In addition to the error page shown in the browser or client, important messages - including error messages and stack traces - are written to the log and trace files, e.g. to the default traces usr\sap\<SID>\<instance>\j2ee\cluster\server<number>\log\defaulttrace.trc.<number>.
    a) In some cases, when an exception ID is included in the error message, the detailed error message can easily be retrieved in the log file.
    b) When no exception ID is given, you have to search for the detailed error message in the log specifying time stamp and/or user ID.
    Always consider restarting the system after making changes on the settings.
    It is not recommended to switch the "SystemType" to an inappropriate value just for viewing verbose error messages. The system type potentially affects framework, applications and licensing in an perhaps unintended way.
    In the past there was no distinction between different system types regarding error messages. For security reasons this distiction has been introduced. It is not intended to show stack traces in non-development systems in the future. SAP does not provide workarounds or patches to enable such a behaviour again.

  • Calling a Web Dynpro Application from POWL feeder class

    Hi,
    I know this question is asked before but never answered, but I try again......
    I have a own POWL feeder class where I defined a button in method IF_POWL_FEEDER~GET_ACTIONS.
    I know that this action can be handled in method IF_POWL_FEEDER~HANDLE_ACTION.
    When pressing the button I want do call another web dynpro application.
    How can I do this? -> Any Example Coding?
    Thank you and best regards, Edgar

    Hi Vineet,
    it works, thanks a lot!!!!  Best Regards, Eddy
    P.S.: Here is the coding for triggering the event and passing parameters for the selected POWL table line:
    METHOD if_powl_feeder~handle_action.
      DATA: ls_parameter TYPE powl_namevalue_sty.
      DATA: lt_flights TYPE ty_flights.
      DATA: ls_flight TYPE sflight.
      DATA: ls_selected TYPE rstabix.
      FIELD-SYMBOLS: <lt_fligts> TYPE STANDARD TABLE.
      IF i_actionid = 'EDIT'.
    *   Important: this triggers the event
        e_portal_actions-fire_wdevent = abap_true.
    *   Pass parameters to event
        ASSIGN c_result_tab TO <lt_fligts>.
        lt_flights = <lt_fligts>.
    *   Determine the first selected row
        READ TABLE c_selected INTO ls_selected INDEX 1.
    *   Read selected POWL data
        READ TABLE lt_flights INDEX ls_selected-TABIX INTO ls_flight.
        CHECK sy-subrc = 0.
    *   Pass parameters
        ls_parameter-key = 'ACTIONID'.
        ls_parameter-value = 'I_ACTIONID'.
        APPEND ls_parameter TO e_portal_actions-parameters.
        ls_parameter-key = 'CARRID'.
        ls_parameter-value = ls_flight-carrid.
        APPEND ls_parameter TO e_portal_actions-parameters.
        ls_parameter-key = 'CONNID'.
        ls_parameter-value = ls_flight-connid.
        APPEND ls_parameter TO e_portal_actions-parameters.
        ls_parameter-key = 'FLDATE'.
        ls_parameter-value = ls_flight-fldate.
        APPEND ls_parameter TO e_portal_actions-parameters.
      ENDIF.
    ENDMETHOD.

    I found at "How to Use the Web Dynpro Content Administrator.pdf" a good place to look for my mistake. But a big question appeared:
    Once I get in the Web Dynpro Content Administrator  and found my deplyed app I found this two JCo:
    WD_MODELDATA_DEST
    WD_RFC_METADATA_DEST
    Witch status was a little grey diamond, or something like that. ¿Can somebody tell me what is happening with this Jco?
    The page 27 of the pdf mentioned before, was different in my IDE SAP Developer Studio, the only option, by default, that give me was to choose between WD_MODELDATA_DEST and
    WD_RFC_METADATA_DEST. I have two fields that must be fill to pass to the next dialog box or finished the creation RFC model.
    Thanks a lot !!!

    Hi,
    In NWDS, you should have defined your own JCo destinations when creating your model. For example:
    - WD_<yourApp>_MODELDATA_DEST
    - WD_<yourApp>_RFC_METADATA_DEST
    Then in the Web Dynpro Content Administrator, you must create them, ie specify connection types, connection parameters...
    For this, choose the button Maintain JCo Destinations, find the connetions you've created in NWDS and click the button Create. Just follow the steps of the wizard, and you're done!
