Pass XML inside ora:parseEscapedXML

How to pass XML inside ora:parseEscapedXML ?? Like
ora:parseEscapedXML(' <PersonalDetails><FirstName></FirstName><PreferredName></PreferredName><Nationality></Nationality></PersonalDetails>')
It works fine. But problem is how to get variable values inside <FirstName></FirstName> ? Like <FirstName> some variable </FirstName>.
Thanks

Hi ,
assign the xml content to the string variable like ex:ErrorData then call the ora:parseEscapedXML function like ora:parseEscapedXML(bpws:getVariableData('ErrorData')) to another string variable.
ex with out parseEscapedXML ..the xml looks like this
<ErrorDataStr>
<ErrorDataStr xsi:type="ns:string">*<parameters xmlns:ns1="http://www.testing.com/ErrorReport" xmlns="http://www.testing.com/ErrorReport">*<ns1:item><ns1:ProcessInfo>n</ns1:ProcessInfo><ns1:BusinessProcessName>a</ns1:BusinessProcessName><ns1:BusinessProcessInstanceId>a</ns1:BusinessProcessInstanceId><ns1:BusinessProcessStep>a</ns1:BusinessProcessStep><ns1:ImplementationCode>ss</ns1:ImplementationCode><ns1:StatusCode>s</ns1:StatusCode><ns1:ErrorCode>s</ns1:ErrorCode><ns1:ErrorDescription>s</ns1:ErrorDescription><ns1:ErrorType>s</ns1:ErrorType><ns1:ErrorDateTime>3-oct-2011</ns1:ErrorDateTime></ns1:item></parameters></ErrorDataStr>

• How to put variable value inside ora:parseEscapedXML ?

Hi,
I am in a situation like I have a variable like temp that has value "runtime value". Now I want to put this temp variable like
ora:parseEscapedXML('<data><xd:name="a"> <xd:value>temp</dsml:value></xd:name> </data>')
But it shows temp as a String not its runtime value. I have also used bpws:getVariableData(temp) or bpws:getVariableData("temp") or bpws:getVariableData('temp') but useless .
Any help ?
Thanks

I have pasted my XML into the Expression but its unable to pick the value of variable. When I used/paste the same xml in a XML Fragment its giving me error about literal invalid.
What should I do now ?
Thanks

• Passing XML structures

Dear All,
We have got a problem trying to pass structured XML string to BPEL via JMS. The partner process just computes the result (an XML string) and sends it to a JMS queue. The JMS content contains the XML structure (string) that we want to pass. When we try to assign the JMS content to the BPEL variable it seems to work but, when we try to address an element, the process fails.
In my opinion this behaviour is due to the forced assignment of an XML formatted string to a BPEL XML object. So we tried to find samples on this topic. Any help is welcomed. Thanks and Regards,

You can't execute xpath query on a string, i would suggest converting that xml string into dom element and set the variable. there is an easy way to achieve this bpel.
Use the parseEscapedXML('xml-string') xpath function, you can look at [orabpel-home]/samples/references/XPathFunction sample on how its getting used.
In your case,you might need to use getVariableData() to get the xml string content and use this parseEscapedXML() to convert to element. like below:
<copy>
<from expression="ora:parseEscapedXML(string(bpws:getVariableData('your-variable', 'part', '/a/b'))))"/>
<to variable="your-variable" part="part", query="/a/b/c"/>
</copy>

• Getting root element twice using ora:parseEscapedXML(bpws:getVariableData(

Bpel reads a normalised message as an input but when try parsing the normalised message to take the xml data from its payload using BPEL function
ora:parseEscapedXML(bpws:getVariableData('NormMsg','payload','/ns3:NormalizedMessage/ns3:Payload/ns3:CharacterData'))
the xml generated as an output has root element occuring twice

Hello,
I have the same problem - parseEscapedXML creates double headers if used after getContentAsString (if my payload has special characters parseEscapedXML fails). I used parseXML - it didn't work. And assigning TO level higher didn't work either. I used substring-before(substring-after,..),..) on a payload before applying parseEscapedXML and it solves the problem. But it doesn't seem like a very clean solution. I am new to BPEL. Could somebody advise, please?
Here is my assignment:
<assign name="AssignCustomerEmailEnqueueInput">
<copy>
<from expression="substring-before(substring-after(bpws:getVariableData('QueryRestartOutput','RestartCollection','/ns5:RestartCollection/ns5:Restart/ns5:payload'), '<CUSTOMEREMAILMSG xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb/FIS">'), '</CUSTOMEREMAILMSG>')"/>
<to variable="QueryRestartOutput"
part="RestartCollection"
query="/ns5:RestartCollection/ns5:Restart/ns5:payload"/>
</copy>
<copy>
<from expression="ora:parseEscapedXML(ora:getContentAsString(bpws:getVariableData('QueryRestartOutput','RestartCollection','/ns5:RestartCollection/ns5:Restart/ns5:payload')))"/>
<to variable="CustomerEmailQueueInput"
part="CUSTOMEREMAILMSG"
query="/ns8:CUSTOMEREMAILMSG"/>
</copy>
<copy>
<from expression="substring-before(substring-after(ora:getContentAsString(bpws:getVariableData('CustomerEmailQueueInput','CUSTOMEREMAILMSG','/ns8:CUSTOMEREMAILMSG/DOCUMENT')), '<DOCUMENT xmlns="">'), '</DOCUMENT>')"/>
<to variable="CustomerEmailQueueInput"
part="CUSTOMEREMAILMSG"
query="/ns8:CUSTOMEREMAILMSG/DOCUMENT"/>
</copy>
</assign>
The third copy is there because on ocasion I get double headers on <DOCUMENT..> which is inside payload variable. Does anybody know why it's doing it? Does it depend on XML itself (double header is not always created)?
Thanks,
Yulia

• Ora:parseEscapedXML

Hi,
I have a input string that has the 4 values passed from a CLOB PO_NUMBER (xsd:string) 173510 , PO_LINE_NUMBER(xsd:integer) 1 , PO_SHIPMENT_NUMBER (xsd:integer) 1 , QTY_CANCELLED (xsd:integer) 2000 to a BPEL Process
When I try to receive this value using ora:parseEscapedXML from this string I cannot receive into a variable of complex type . However when I retrieve it into a String (say) PO Number I get 173510112000 (All Concatenated )
How do I receive this into a XML Type ?
Any inputs are appreciated
Thanks

Try something link this.. This is the .bpel file

• Very urgent help needed- Error while passing XML document to Oracle stored

Hi !
I have been struggling a lot to call Oracle 9i stored procedure passing Stringbuilder object type from ASP.NET
I am using Visual Studio 2008 Professional, OS: Windows XP and Oracle: 9.2.0.1.0
Following is the procedure:
CREATE or REPLACE PROCEDURE loadCompanyInfo (clobxml IN clob) IS
-- Declare a CLOB variable
ciXML clob;
BEGIN
-- Store the Purchase Order XML in the CLOB variable
ciXML := clobxml;
-- Insert the Purchase Order XML into an XMLType column
INSERT INTO companyinfotbl (companyinfo) VALUES (XMLTYPE(ciXML));
commit;
--Handle the exceptions
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
raise_application_error(-20101, 'Exception occurred in loadCompanyInfo procedure :'||SQLERRM);
END loadCompanyInfo ;
And following is the ASP.net code:
StringBuilder b = new StringBuilder();
b.Append("");
b.Append("
");
b.Append("<price>500</price>");
b.Append("
some item
");
b.Append("<quantity>5</quantity>");
b.Append("
");
//Here you'll have the Xml as a string
string myXmlString1 = b.ToString();
//string result;
using (OracleConnection objConn = new OracleConnection("Data Source=testdb; User ID=testuser; Password=pwd1"))
OracleCommand objCmd = new OracleCommand();
objCmd.Connection = objConn;
objCmd.CommandText = "loadCompanyInfo";
objCmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
//OracleParameter pmyXmlString1 = new OracleParameter("pmyXmlString1", new OracleString(myXmlString1));
objCmd.Parameters.Add("myXmlString1", OracleType.clob);
objCmd.Parameters.Add(myXmlString1).Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
//objCmd.Parameters.Add("result", OracleType.VarChar).Direction = ParameterDirection.Output;
try
objConn.Open();
objCmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
catch (Exception ex)
Label1.Text = "Exception: {0}" + ex.ToString();
objConn.Close();
When I am trying to execute it, I am getting the following error:
Exception: {0}System.Data.OracleClient.OracleException: ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'LOADCOMPANYINFO' ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement ignored at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleConnection.CheckError(OciErrorHandle errorHandle, Int32 rc) at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleCommand.Execute(OciStatementHandle statementHandle, CommandBehavior behavior, Boolean needRowid, OciRowidDescriptor& rowidDescriptor, ArrayList& resultParameterOrdinals) at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleCommand.ExecuteNonQueryInternal(Boolean needRowid, OciRowidDescriptor& rowidDescriptor) at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() at Default.Button1Click(Object sender, EventArgs e)
I understand from this that the .net type is not the correct one, but I am not sure how to correct it. I could not find any proper example in any documentation that I came across. Most of the examples give information on how to read but not how to insert XML into Oracle table by calling Stored Procedure.
Can you please help me to solve this problem? I hope that you can help solve this.
Also, can you please give me an example of passing XML document XMLdocument to Oracle Stored procedure.
In both the cases, if you can provide the working code then it would be of great help.
Thanks,

• Problem with ora:parseEscapedXML

I have XML as string that contains & q u o t; (without space :( ).
Now I have to convert it to XML, I tried using ora:parseEscapedXML.
I have to process lot of XMLs that contains these encoded values, I tried adding escape character still it is not working.
It is throwing type error, which is not caught in Catch block and CatchAll block.
Atleast I need to Catch this exception.Can anybody suggest??
It seems like it is bug in ora:parseEscapedXML.
has anybody tried this
thanks and regards

Replace the "&" with "& amp;amp;" (no space in real situation as the browser will replace it back
to "&").You can use a Java exec in the BPEL code to implement this workaround.
java.lang.String temp = (String) getVariableData("dummy");
System.out.println("String before manipulation: " + temp);
temp = temp.replaceAll("&", "& a m p; a m p"); <-- Intentionally spaces
System.out.println("String after manipulation: " + temp);
setVariableData("dummy", temp);

• Help Needed: Issue in ora:parseEscapedXML function in BPEL

Hello All-
We are facing issue while using the XSLT Function ora:parseEscapedXML in SOA 11g. Following is our scenario:
1. We are using DB Adapter to poll for records in the database. One of the fields in the polled records is a CLOB type which contains a XML message.
2. Our requirement is to get the XML Message as a String in the BPEL Process, parse it to XML and then assign to Complex Type XML Element.
3. We are using ora:parseEscapedXML function to achieve the same. However we are getting error "Empty Variable/Expression result. The XPATH variable or expression is empty"
If anybody has faced similar issues, kindly provide us the resolution/pointers on how to resolve it.
Thanks in advance. Please let me know if you need any additional information from my side.
Regards,
Dibya

Reading Xml file from clob column in the staging table
CLOB has to be treated as string in xsd/xml in BPEL. Hope you have read the following document http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/integrate.1013/b28994/adptr_db.htm#CHDIEBJD. Still valid for 11g.

• About ora:parseEscapedXML(String contentString)

Where can I find more documentation on each specific expression? Web service returns a String (which is a XML document). We are trying to consume it in BPEL as XML document. I couldn't get this parsing function work though. Can anyone give a pointer or two?
Thanks,

Hi Wen,
Look at the XPathFunction sample to see an example of the usage at "OracleAS\bpel\samples\references\XPathFunction".
We have also successfuly used this funktion to convert the result of a webservice (string containing the xml-structure) into a xml document.

• How to use ora:parseEscapedXML() Function with String Content

Hello,
I am receiving a ResponseMessage that returns a string, but the content of the string is actually XML. I have tried to use the ora:parseEscapedXML() function to parses the string (see XML Fragment below) to return structured XML data that can be assigned to typed BPEL variables. The documentation is very limited for this (I've looked in the Developer Guide draft that is available at the OraBPEL site).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sean

Hello,
I am attempting to provide more information in order to hopefully get some better guidance here.
1) The BPEL process I built receives input from a client that is one of city name or region name or postal code or country name and returns a list of customer records with their AccountNumber, LastName, FirstName, Email, Address, City, Region, PostalCode and Country. The BPEL flow invokes a packaged integration Web Service that retuns the records in a string whose content is XML (see XML fragment below).
2) The string content returned is vaiable based on the input (i.e. city name="London")
Two customer records from XML literal fragment copied from string result:

<recordset>
<customer>
<CustNum>AROUT</CustNum>
<CustLName>Hardy</CustLName>
<CustFname>Thomas</CustFname>
<CustEmail>[email protected]</CustEmail>
<CustAddress>120 Hanover Sq.</CustAddress>
<CustCity>London</CustCity>
<CustRegion></CustRegion>
<CustPostalCode>WA1 1DP</CustPostalCode>
<CustCountry>UK</CustCountry>
</customer>
<customer>
<CustNum>BSBEV</CustNum>

I want to <assign> each record from the packaged integration service result (the string whose content is XML) to a complexType variable defined within the BPEL Process WSDL (see example below).

• How to generate XML data from Lotus Notes to migrate to SharePoint by passing XML to SharePoint.?

How to generate XML data from Lotus Notes to migrate to SharePoint by passing XML to SharePoint.?
Ramesh S

You could use XMLQuery to return the data from your tables as XML, that would give you a CLOB.
An example using the SCOTT schema might be like this:
SELECT XMLQuery(
'for $i in ora:view("DEPT")/ROW
return <Department dname="{$i/DNAME}">
<Employee>
{for $j in ora:view("EMP")/ROW
where $j/DEPTNO eq $i/DEPTNO
return ($j/ENAME, $j/JOB, $j/SAL)}
</Employee>
</Department>'
RETURNING CONTENT) FROM DUAL;In the docs you can find more information about its use:

• Update the passed XML in a PL/SQL procedure and then use DBMS_XMLSAVE

hi folks,
This is a great forum and most of you guys were awesome in replying to complex queries........
I have a small issue, I am trying to do a bulk insert from my application by constructing an XML result set and pass that XML to the SP as a CLOB and using DBMS_XMLSAVE package to insert it to the oracle table. It works like a charm for me when this is as straight forward as this. But when my requirement is, I need to generate sequence numbers for a particular column (Primary key column), while for other columns I pass values from the UI (as a XML object which my SP accepts as a CLOB), i am at a loss for solution to achieve this. It would mean, that I have to generate the sequence numbers for each row and then update this value to the passed XML clob. Any indicators on how to achieve this?
I found this solution at one of the thread which might most probably help me,
declare
2 l_cnt number;
3 begin
4 select count(*) into l_cnt from books,xmltable('/Books/Book' passing object_value);
5 for i in 1..l_cnt loop
6 update books set object_value =
7 updatexml(object_value,'/Books/Book['||i||']/BookID', xmlelement("BookID",sequence_bookid.nextval))
8 where existsnode(object_value,'/Books/Book['||i||']')=1;
9 end loop;
10 end;
11 /
But here, they are trying to update a XMLTable book, but in my case the XML is a clob object and not a XML table. Will this solution work for my case as well? Please provide any pointers to me... Thanks...

First if your version of Oracle has DBMS_XMLSTORE, use that instead.
Reason: {thread:id=876376} (See Marco's response).
It is possible you could run into issues, but you should start with DBMS_XMLSTORE.
Since you will have the XML in the SP, treat the data as an XMLType instead of a CLOB for as long as you can since you need to do UpdateXML on it.
For your sample PL/SQL code, lines 4-5 are replaced with the WHILE loop shown in Method 2 at
{message:id=3610259}.
The UPDATE would be replaced with the following pseudocode
SELECT UPDATEXML(<l_xmltype_variable>, ...)
INTO <l_xmltype_variable>
FROM dual;
Once your loop is done, l_xmltype_variable would contain your updated XML and then you can use that XMLType directly on the call to DBMS_XMLSTORE or convert it back to a clob via
l_clob_variable := l_xmltype_variable.getClobVal();

• Trying to pass xml data to a web service

I'm working on an Apex application that is required to pass data to a web service for loading into another (non Oracle) system. The web service expects two stings as input, the first string is simply an ID, the second string is an xml document. I generate an xml 'string' using PL/SQL in an on-submit process prior to invoking the web service. If I pass regular text for the second parameter, the web service returns an error message which is stored in the response collection and displayed on the page as expected. When I pass the the xml data, I get a no data found error and the response collection is empty. I have tried this in our development environment on Apex 3.1.2 (database version 10.2). I also tried this on our Apex 4.0.2 sandbox (with the same Oracle 10.2 database). I have found that once I have nested xml, I get the no data found message, if I pass partial xml data, I get the error response from the web service. Perhaps I am not generating the xml correctly to pass to the web service (this only just occurred to me as I write this)? Or is there an issue passing xml data from Apex to the web service? Any help will be greatly appreciated! here is the code I use to generate the xml string:

Error[Validate Data]: (XML) = Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1.. Cannot validate the XML! Data Exchange not accepted!Once I pass the entire xml string above, I get an Oracle-01403: no data found error. I have opened the web service in IE and pasted my xml input string and received a valid, verified result, so I am sure that the generated xml is correct. I have spoken with the web service developer; there are no log entries created by the web service when I submit the full xml string, so I suspect the failure is in the Apex application.
Thanks,
Christine
I should add that once I have nested tags in the xml, I get the Oracle no data found error ("
<stdXmlVer>2.0</stdXmlVer> <sendingUnit>10</sendingUnit>
"). I f I do not have nested tags in the xml ("<notification>[email protected]</notification> <creationDate>2011-12-20</creationDate>"), I get the web service response (error).

Ok, I think I'm getting closer to thinking this all the way through. When I have used clobs in the past, I've always used the DBMS_CLOB package. I use this to create a temp clob and then make the above calls. I had to go find an example in my own code to remember all of this. So, here is another suggestion... feel free to disregard all the previous code snippets..

end;This code will use the Database to construct your clob and then convert it back to a varchar2 for output to your webservice. This makes more sense to me now and hopefully you can follow what the process is doing.
You don't technically need the two varchar2(36767) variables. I used two for naming convention clarity sake. You could use just one multipurpose variable instead.
If you have any questions, just ask. I'll help if I can.

• How to pass XML tags in a soapbody parameter having datatype as string?

Hi,
I need to pass XML tags as a String parameter in SOAP:Body.
When I tried send SOAP Request, The SOAP Request was changing < to <
and > to > respectively. Is there any way to ensure that the XML tags (< and >) remain as it is without getting changed.
I also tried to retrieve XML file and stored in a StringBuffer and tried to send SOAP Request but i am still receiving the < and > tags in my SOAP Request.
Pl suggest some alternatives to avoid storing the XML in the form of string and instead directly store the XML into a XML Node so that i can avoid the above condition
Thanks in advance,
gnsinhyd

Hi,
The sample code I used is as follows:
package somepackage;
import javax.mail.internet
import javax.xml.messaging.*;
import javax.xml.soap.*;
import javax.xml.transform.*;
import javax.activation.*;
public class SomeClassName{
// Some namespace declarations
public static void main(String[] args) throws someExceptions{
try
// Create the connection
SOAPConnectionFactory connectionFactory = SOAPConnectionFactory.newInstance();
SOAPConnection connection = connectionFactory.createConnection();
// create a new SOAP message using SAAJ APIs
MessageFactory messageFactory = MessageFactory.newInstance();
SOAPMessage request = messageFactory.createMessage();
// Create a SoapAction header
MimeHeaders headers = request.getMimeHeaders();
headers.addHeader("SOAPAction", "soapaction url");
// Object for SOAP Message parts
SOAPPart part = request.getSOAPPart();
SOAPEnvelope envelope = part.getEnvelope();
envelope.addNamespaceDeclaration("xsd","http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema");
envelope.addNamespaceDeclaration("xsi","http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance");
